It's been awhile since I've been back in this area, so I when we came across this spot I had to check it out. Staff was very nice. The place was well clean and I like how they incorporated the culture into the place. We went around lunch time and it was couple tables seated. I ordered the Chicken shawarma wrap and the loaded fries. The best part about the wrap was the shell. It was soft and flavorful. The chicken was just okay. The fries had really good texture. Delicious and large servings! We really enjoyed the beef over rice. The crispy gyro beef meat was perfect in texture and the rice was flavorful and fluffy. My wife and I tried this new place for lunch after some neighbors recommended it. For Mediterranean in town, we typically go to the Pita Shop but we were willing to give this place a chance. Located on the space vacated by Cici's Pizza, the place was quite spacious. Plenty of parking available...although it makes you wonder how some stupid/bad drivers feel it necessary to back into a space and park at an angle where they are straddling a line and squeezes my space and force me to back out at an angle to avoid hitting their stupid truck. Anyway, back to the review. My wife ordered the Gyro wrap ($10.49) with a side of fries ($2.99) and I ordered the gyro and chicken over rice plate ($11.99). We both ordered fountain drinks with our meals. Service was a bit slow but we were served our meals soon enough. Impressions: Flavors were OK, not OMG good. Service was friendly with the owner coming around to talk to customers. We didn't think the value was there compared to The Pita Shop, where a gyro combo with fries is priced at $10.99. All in all, it was worth trying but there are better values out there. Lunch for 2 with tip was just under $33. read more

Family owned business, very fresh food. Loved the chicken over rice- the basmati rice tasted like biryani rice. The sauces were perfect- the hot sauce was mildly spicy which I appreciate. I haven't had very much Mediterranean food, but this food was delicious. My son had the chicken/rice dish which wasn't my type of food so I didn't really like that but I had the falafel wrap and that was tasty. I loved the different sauces they provided with our dishes. The only thing good here was maybe the rice and gyro platters but even then they weren't seasoned enough. I'm Arab so I expected the kofta to be well seasoned, but the 'kofta' here tasted like IKEA meatballs (I do not like IKEA meatballs). I was told by the cashier that "it's Turkish kofta" before ordering it, so I looked up Turkish kofta recipes and they seemed to be incredibly similar to Arabic kofta.... I'm very confused about what was in the 'kofta' I ordered here. It was supposedly 'lamb' but I tasted no lamb. If you're not familiar with good mediterranean/Arab food, maybe this place is good for you. I won't be going back. read more

Chicken over rice was delicious. Bf had the loaded gyro which he said was good, but he liked my chicken better. The white garlic sauce they give you is kind of like tzatziki but even better. By FAR the best place to go in San Marcos for Mediterranean food. It's family owned they're super sweet, and as soon as you walk in you can smell the spices and can tell everything is fresh. They gave a side of hummus, white sauce, and hot sauce FOR FREE with the wraps (im looking at you halal project) and free pita bread for the hummus too. Halal Basket can't even be compared to these other places it's way better and on its own level. Halal *project* has loud annoying music, horrible customer service, paste rather than sauce, wilted lettuce, burned falafel, and chewy pita. Everything I hate about that place I love about Halal *Baskets*. Here there is a great atmosphere, great service, YUMMY ASF sauces, fresh produce, perfectly cooked falafel, and the softest freshest pita bread. This place was quiet and spacious, we were anxious to try it out. I ordered the falafel wrap and a side of hummus, which came with 3 falafels, a creamy white sauce, lettuce, onion and tomato. The pita was fluffy, falafel was a light green and a hint of mint (very well spiced). My husband had a gyro and chicken over seasoned basmati rice which came with a side salad. It was a huge portion. Everything was very delicious and came out quickly. The staff were friendly and the manager even came and brought us a little sample of chicken soup, my husband loved! I was on my way to the gym and noticed that what used to be a Cici's was now something entirely different. I went to the internet to try and inquire as to what it might be, and to my surprise it was a Mediterranean restaurant! I love trying new places so I made it a point to go on my lunch the next day. I will say the name is a little misleading and had I not looked into what it was I wouldn't have known that it was restaurant. However, once you can get past the initial confusion, I can assure you that you will be rewarded with great food that is presented nicely. My friend and I got the lamb and chicken plate that came with a salad and we also decided to try out the falafel. We were both shocked at the portion and the presentation and had I not had to go back to work, I would've definitely had leftovers. I thought the food was great and the friendliness of the family that is running it made it that much better. They all made a point to swing by and ask how everything was. One of them had mentioned they have only been open 10 Days and he also said that they have plans on having buffets in the evenings which I think would be amazing! I will say it is a little confusing once you walk in (You order at the front and then they bring it to you) but once you're in you get to just enjoy the ride. The only other minor thing is there's no music or anything playing so it was just the sound of the open kitchen and my friend and I's conversation. Again, they did just open so I'm hoping that they continue to evaluate how to better get guests in and make it an enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. Ate so fast I forgot to take pictures. Seriously good Mediterranean food with an incredibly nice staff. We got the gyro over rice and gyro and chicken over rice. A lot of food for a pretty good price, and everything tasted homemade and fresh- I would ask for extra garlic sauce because it's just that tasty. The baklava stole the show! It's so lovely we have another option fin San Marcos. Halal basket definitely helps to diversify the options in the area. This family owned restaurant is new to town and they have a pretty wide menu. You can find salads, a wrap, rice plates and even pizza. We had the falafel and chicken wraps and they were really good - good amount of meat and sauces were flavorful. The owners were super attentive to not only our group but everyone else in the restaurant - visiting tables - asking for feedback. Definitely go check these guys out. The set up still looks like the old cici's so I hope they lean into that old buffet and have some kind of delicious brunch option at some point once they have settled in. read more
