Chicken and gyro over rice plate
    Mel M.

My wife and I tried this new place for lunch after some neighbors recommended it. For Mediterranean in town, we typically go to the Pita Shop but we were willing to give this place a chance. Located on the space vacated by Cici's Pizza, the place was quite spacious. Plenty of parking available...although it makes you wonder how some stupid/bad drivers feel it necessary to back into a space and park at an angle where they are straddling a line and squeezes my space and force me to back out at an angle to avoid hitting their stupid truck. Anyway, back to the review. My wife ordered the Gyro wrap ($10.49) with a side of fries ($2.99) and I ordered the gyro and chicken over rice plate ($11.99). We both ordered fountain drinks with our meals. Service was a bit slow but we were served our meals soon enough. Impressions: Flavors were OK, not OMG good. Service was friendly with the owner coming around to talk to customers. We didn't think the value was there compared to The Pita Shop, where a gyro combo with fries is priced at $10.99. All in all, it was worth trying but there are better values out there. Lunch for 2 with tip was just under $33.

Food is ok. French fries were very not special , chicken salad was kind of tasty and rice was not bad. I have tried Mediterranean food before and I will give the place solid 5/10. The service is definitely 10/10 very friendly all of them.

Chicken over rice was delicious. Bf had the loaded gyro which he said was good, but he liked my chicken better. The white garlic sauce they give you is kind of like tzatziki but even better. Service was wonderful! Everyone was so kind. The restaurant was super clean as well. Will def be back to try more menu items!

This was so good! The service was friendly and fast. We got the chicken plate and gyro and chicken plate and they were huge and delicious. Definitely get the hot sauce. I think they took over a cicis but don't let that deter you. It is so good

Food is authentic and full of flavor. We wanted to try a bit a very everything and we were not disappointed. The hummus was so creamy. Falafels were light and cooked to perfection. The lamb kofta was out of this world. Oh, and the rice...it was the best I've had in forever. Coming from a middle-eastern background I had very high expectations and Halal Basket exceeded them. The owners came out to meet us and we're so genuine and kind. We will be back.

Located off old ranch road 12, there's nothing flashy about this slot in an old strip retail building. It looks likes it been here a while and absolutely nothing has changed.. except maybe the prices. Nonetheless, it's very clean and maintained. The man behind the counter was friendly to me and the other customers. I ordered a traditional gyro that comes with fries and a soft drink. The food was ready in 10 minutes and delivered to my table. The gyro was perfect. The pita and meat portions piping hot and the lettuce, tomato, onion and tzatziki sauce nicely chilled and fresh. Each bite was consistently good. The French fries were hot and nicely seasoned. Very happy to have the pita shop hit the spot for a gyro craving.

The fries are inedible, fried in old grease, flaccid and not crispy. Very soft to touch. Portion size of the fries was very limited. The fries look old since the color is very dark. They look like they were fried to the very minimum or not at all. I couldn't even finish them. They got cold very quickly. Just disgusting really. I emphasize that they taste old. I'm sure why this place has high reviews on Google or Yelp. They did not do a good job on my order at all. I'm from Houston and I've had better falafels with full flavor, but I guess since this is San Marcos they know they can slack off. I know my Mediterranean food and usually the cuisine has a lot of good spices! I won't be coming back. It was disgusting! I now have to eat at a better restaurant to cover the disgust on my palate.

I love getting the bowls with their various pickled veggies for the contrast in tastes. Dolma is delicious, the kebabs are delicious, the fries loaded with deliciousness are in fact delicious, and the prices for all dishes are very reasonable. Food can take a little longer, but only because the food is cooked fresh to order and not sitting in a metal container overcooking. A Fantastic Introduction to Mediterranean Food!…read more I recently visited Levant Halal Restaurant and brought my parents, who are visiting from India. It was their very first time trying Mediterranean food, and they absolutely loved it! We started with two different types of hummus served with pita. The hummus was incredibly flavorful, and the pita was exceptionally fresh. We also ordered the falafel, which was perfectly prepared and delicious. For the main course, we shared the Chicken Shish Taouk with sides of beet salsa and Lebanese potatoes--everything was cooked beautifully and tasted amazing. Honestly, the highlight of the meal for us was the drinks. The mint juice and beet juice were so refreshing and easily the best part! We finished our meal with baklava and basbousa for dessert, and both were fresh, sweet, and incredibly tasty. Beyond the fantastic food, the ambiance is very neat and clean, and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend Levant Halal, especially if you are looking for a great place to introduce family to Mediterranean cuisine!

I also ordered the fried dill pickles, which are another personal favorite of mine. They were perfectly fried and full of flavor. Plan ahead or use rideshare if you can. Service was great--attentive and smooth throughout our meal with two adults and two kids. We ordered the whipped feta spread (excellent with the pistachios and oil; the house bread was a bit salty), Brussels sprouts (cooked perfectly), grilled chicken kebabs, the shawarma-spiced steak frites, and the grilled Branzino. The Branzino was the clear star of the show--flavorful and well-executed. The chicken and steak were mediocre at best. For dessert we shared the sticky date cake, which had a nice crunch outside and was warm and moist inside. It's a bit pricey (we paid over $240 for the four of us), but the setting, strong service, and that excellent Branzino make it worthwhile. I'd definitely come back.

Not only are they incredibly kind, but also very knowledgeable about the vegan options, and even keep all vegan prep separate from animal products. For the first time ever, I was able to try real tahdig, so thoroughly crispy that you can hear it crunch between the teeth of your dining companion across the table. Khoresh bademjan is typically made with lamb, but in this case, tender lentils carry the eggplant with enough meatiness that you'd never think the dish had ever been prepared differently. If you only get one thing, though, make it the ash reshteh. Don't be fooled by the size of the bowl; this is one hearty entree, absolutely packed with chickpeas, lentils, kidney beans, soft wheat noodles, and more herbs and spices than I could identify on a single spoon. I'm already plotting how I can recreate this at home, ASAP. There's even a vegan dessert! Sweet and sticky halva, which is rich enough to split four or five ways at least, if you weren't already stuffed from the main meal. It's a double-edged sword that it was so quiet on a Saturday night. No fight for a table or wait for service, but it worries me that there's almost no buzz for this family-owned business.
