The flavorful meat had a slight crisp that made the whole thing taste better - I couldn't get enough! The red and white sauce also added immensely to the perfect blend of flavor. I was also a fan of the texture of the rice. Everything just came together perfectly. The portion size was also extremely generous, and I had more than enough for two meals. I've been hearing about Halal Bros for some time from people and I can see why it's hyped up. This food is definitely far better than Halal Guys that have sprung up in Texas. If given the choice, I'd choose Halal Bros each time. I had the combination platter and the the portion is like Texas - huge! The gyro meat was flavorful and not dry at all. The chicken was not as flavorful as the gyro, but seasoned well. Make sure you grab a bottle of the white sauce. The white sauce just levels up your dish. We thought we'd get a side too (before we knew the portion size) so we ordered the hummus. The hummus was creamy, but the only fault I had with the side was that it only came with one pita. I went in and asked for a recommendation and was not disappointed. I ended up settling on the combo (multi meat) shawarma and it was amazing. Having trouble finding a place open late night? Starving and feeling like you could eat a whole cow? Look no further! Halal Bros is the place to be. They have two staples in the form of some meat over rice (beef/lamb/chicken shawarma or the kebab) or just a simple wrap of the same meats. I always get it over rice since I love rice! As soon as you walk in, you get that wafted smell of delicious meats cooking on the hot stove or that lovely giant log of meat spinning against the heating rod. While the food is abundant, its doused by a ton of oil and delicious sauce. It can be heavy but for late night food its really great. They've expanded their seating inside and use to only have basically seating for 10 but now it can seat about 40 inside and there is some patio seating outside. All in all, a great place for lots of food. I wish they would tone down their oil and season their rice more but I understand how tough it is to serve so many customers. Another critique would be to change up their vegetables more. The lettuce and tomatoes get pretty tiring. read more

I can't count the numerous times I've come here. Whether it's for a late dinner, to satisfy a Mediterranean food craving, or even just if I don't know what else to eat or don't feel like making anything, halal bros has always been one of my top 3 go-to places to eat in Austin. Also the close proximity to campus really deals the deal for me since it is within walking distance. Wraps are good, but for the price you get more food with the over rice options. The lamb shawarma over rice is my number 1 go-to order here. The lamb is cooked perfectly and is so flavorful, and combined with the rice, pickles, cucumbers, onions, lettuce, and tomato this is just absolutely one of my most favorite meals I've ever eaten. Whenever I'm not in Austin for extended periods of time, I start missing halal bros lamb shawarma over rice and my craving intensifies. So I definitely recommend this, and always get extra spicy sauce and white sauce. They compliment the meal very well. If you like it spicy, 1-2 spicy sauce will work very well for your tastebuds. I prefer a 1.5 white + 1.5 spicy sauce combo, as this doesn't overwhelm the taste of everything else and accentuates it very nicely. Halal Bros is very small and cramped inside, and there isn't much parking at the front. However, the restaurant is perfect for take-out! I had the combination (lamb and chicken) over double rice, and it was awesome! The chicken and lamb were well seasoned and tasted amazing. The basmati rice was very light and fluffy. It also came with a good amount of vegetables (tomatoes and lettuce). Both the red and white sauces were perfect together with the rest of the plate. 5 star review for my 100th review! I've been here a few times and the consistency is amazing. It reminds me of my Halal spot on 53rd on 6th back in NYC. I found this location when I couldn't find the food truck downtown. I thought great no need to pay for parking and it's the same people! The chicken and rice platter is my favorite. IT consists of chopped chicken grilled over spiced basmati rice and a side salad with the famous "crack" white sauce and a hot sauce. The taste is delicious and you get a hearty serving at that too. It's very well seasoned and distinct from the usual food scene around Austin definitely worth trying out. I've recommended to a few co-workers and gotten the similar sentiments. I also like the lamb over rice platter and combo platter which is lamb and chicken. Now be mindful it is a little bit oily not in a a bad way, however. I normally call in my order when I'm in a rush and they always have it ready within 5-10 min. I've never had to wait more than 10 min to get my food even if I ordered it there. They just expanded the place so now there's more seating inside and outside. I always get their chicken over rice. Their sauces are unique and delicious! I've also tried their fries with their special sauces which was also good. The portions are fairly large so I always get two meals out of it. I used to grab Halal Bros for dinner so often during my college years. This one is so conveniently located on the drag and was in walking distance from my apartment. Words can not describe how delicious their food is. The meat is cooked to perfection, the rice is wonderful and their secret white sauce is heavenly. The meal comes with lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes as well. I like fixing it all first then enjoying my meal. The food is ready fast and the restaurant is small but efficient. They also play great music. The only downside to Halal Bros is the packing (or lack there of). Flavor was on point with the white sauce. While they say the red sauce isn't too spicy, I have been conditionally trained to avoid it. Parking however, is a nightmare and I wish the best of luck to whoever wishes to go here. They have about 4 spaces and people double up and block each other in. A classic place to go in Austin, this is definitely the best Middle Eastern restaurant I've been to in downtown. It's a bit pricey, but well worth the value. (and also the first place I went to when I moved into my dorm at UT) My favorite thing about this place is their large portion sizes. One of the "over rice" dishes can easily be split into two meals. The prices are also pretty reasonable for what you're getting. The quality of the food here is pretty good, and definitely miles better than Noon, which is right down the street. My only complaint is that it seems to always be really hot when I come here. This usually isn't a problem though, as I usually get my food to go anyways. read more

2nd time I've been to Halal Bros. Wow...the food is phenomenal!!! So tasty with each bite. You can tell that it's fresh since it was scorching hot when I got it, even after being 15min late picking it up, so be careful with your 1st bite. Even with the heat, the veggies were crisp and tastes so fresh and not soggy or wilted at all. It's amazing as is but get extra white and hot sauces for more explosion of flavor. Would definitely be back. Except the downside. It's tucked next to In-N-Out and there's barely any parking. I went to another Halal Bros my 1st time but it was in a plaza so parking was not an issue. We love the food from here. Everything we had from here is superb. Our favorites are any of the rice dishes. The loaded fries are to die for. The white and spicy sauce are very addictive. We've always done take out, never dined in. The first few times we ordered, there were no problems. But recently, they've been getting our orders wrong. :-( Once, we actually got someone else's orders, completely different than ours. The second time, I got my kids to go in to pick up the orders. I online ordered the falafel salad with no white sauce, as I am vegan. I even called them to remind them to make sure there was no white sauce and they confirmed. When it arrived, everything was doused in white sauce. Really unfortunate that I was left without a lunch at work. Makes me worry about how seriously they take food allergies as well. The chicken was flavorful and tender it shredded easily with a plastic fork!! Good size pieces of chicken. The basmati rice was flavorful and not sticky or clumpy. And it was fully packed into the little tray the whole tray had rice which was a great surprise. The salad was ok, I liked that they used romaine lettuce no dressing but that's ok. I ordered online and got the Combination Plate with add-ons of pita and falafel. The falafel was good but I wouldn't get it again because I can make my own that taste just as good. Unfortunately they forget to include my pita in the order... which made me feel meh because I paid for it and they charge an online order convenience fee, which isn't very convenient if they don't get the order right. But I'm working on not sweating the small stuff. :P The portion was huge! Enough for two very big meals. :D I can see why it seems to be a college student staple. The combination plate was good and I'd get it again. I would say too much rice and not enough toppings though. It was quite oily. I don't think Halal Bros is something I'd actively crave (or maybe that's just because I'm writing this review with a full stomach), but if I were in the area and looking for something to eat I'd get it! When you go into the store, there is a separate line if you ordered online, which was nice. The signage wasn't very clear though so I ended up waiting in the long line (it looked like there was only one line), and I think you can only see the online orders sign when you're first in line. It's on the heavier side, so you could honestly turn one meal into two, but I've always enjoyed it whenever I eat here.
