If you like middle eastern food, you will love Zaatar Lebanese Restaurant. I didn't dine in, instead placed an order online and was excited to get my order within 20 mins. I chose something simple and it was very tasty. I ate it all very quickly. I do however wish I were a fan of pistachios as it was very picturesque behind the glass display case. I topped off my meal with a very flavorful drink that vaguely reminded me of Sonic's cherry limeade. A fast-food drink I love, by the way. Lebanese comfort, done right. First time at Zaatar, walked in and met by Saïd, our super sweet waiter with the most wonderful smile! He not only answered every question we had about the menu, he was so gracious to get the manager when he wasn't sure on how to explain an item to us. He was prompt and checked on us often, very much appreciated. As an appetizer we tried a cup of the lentil soup, it was so comforting and warming, it had a savory taste. We also tried the falafel appetizer and it tasted so good, flakey, and the sauce it came with was perfection! The falafel tasted so good on its own. My husband and I decided to share one plate, the mixed shawarma plate, it was very big and enough for the both of us. It comes with pita bread! The chicken and gyro meat were so perfectly seasoned, the beef shawarma was good, not great. All the specialty sauces: hummus, garlic and tzatziki were absolutely tasty! We asked for more as it just complimented every bite! The plate also comes with a lemony salad, which went perfectly with every thing! We fell in love with their rice, we ordered a side of just rice! It's absolutely lovely! To drink we got their hot tea, which is black tea and you can choose to have it with natural mint leaves, it was perfection in a cup! Still reigns king as my fave Mediterranean restaurant in San Antonio. Great service with fresh made to order food. The complimentary spicy hummus dip and pita chips themselves are highly addictive. The dip has a slight kick which was awesome. Our server suggested the chicken shawarma over the tawook chicken I originally was going to order, and I'm glad I listened. The chicken shawarma was a flavor bomb. Bursting with ingredients and tied so well with the pickles in the wrap. I ordered the fattoush salad rather than the fries. It was ok, I think I would have preferred a more green lettuce. The mixed shawarma plate could feed at least two people! Everything was so tasty and fragrant. I came here on my lunch break so I went through the drive thru. I waited about 10 minutes at the window, luckily I was the only one in line but it wasn't as express as I had hoped but all things considered it's not so bad to have your food made fresh to order. The Food was really good, the beef in the calzone was very well spiced, the fries were a little too crispy but not bad and the spicy hummus was very nice and good flavor and not too much heat. The food is AMAZZINGGG! We decided to give this place a try after seeing it a couple times, and we were blown away by the food! Its a very quite place and not busy, so we weren't sure what to expect. I love it when servers, like Zac, are eager to share their magic. I didn't know what to get as I usually gravitate toward my go-tos, but I was feeling adventurous. I asked if he had suggestions. I knew I was in for a treat, when he smiled, and said, "I have my favorites." I loved that he lit up with excitement, when I asked him to put together some of his favorites for me. To drink, he brought me the Rose (perfect balance of rose and lemon); to eat, he surprised me with the Farouj Meshwi in a wrap (juicy charcoal grilled chicken), and instead of fries he wanted me to try the Roasted Garlic Potatoes, which are tossed with lemon, garlic, and cilantro. I am Lebanese. Always on the look for authentic food. I have visited Zaatar at several occasions. The food is good. Nothing to complain about but it is missing authenticity. It is the typical usual dishes you find anywhere else. Their zaatar mankousheh as many times as you tell them to make it less oily I always end up with it drenched in oil! They use too much oil even in the salad dressing. The vibe here was relaxed and the food was different, but just ok. By far, best part of my meal was my Mousey drink and the attentive server. I've lived and traveled in several different countries throughout the Middle East, so I have a pretty broad range of experience with Lebanese restaurants, but I had completely given up on ever finding a really good Lebanese restaurant in San Antonio... until now! And Zaatar isn't just good... it's GREAT!! The service is fast, friendly, and attentive, and the food is amazing! Starting with the fresh-baked pita bread hot from the oven (not reheated, but baked fresh from scratch), soft, chewy, and full of flavor, our entire meal (lamb kabob platter for me, and mezza sampler for my wife) was absolutely DELICIOUS! Love eating here! The ambience is very warm, and the music is great (appreciated all the Nancy Ajram). They have so many tasty options. The Falafel & Chicken Shawarma wraps were both full of flavor. And oh my, their fries are my FAVORITE FRIES anywhere. They are in the shape of steak fries, but super thin, so they stay crispy if you're doing take out. The food is not consistent. I ordered grape leaves on one visit- they were delicious!!! Small, delicate, tender and a perfect taste. Served warm. So I went back dreaming of having the grape leaves - I got fat overly stuffed tough grape rolls. The flavor was good, but rather than picking one up and eating it, I had to try to cut the roll, made of tough stringy grape leaves that had the filling squish out because you couldn't cut them. Dad had Lemonade, Hubby had the Peach Moussy drink, and I had the Raspberry Moussy drink. I picked up my order, so I did not get a good look of the interior. However, the people working in the front were very nice! To start off, the food was very aromatic and smelled absolutely delicious! The Lebanese salad was dressed with a vinaigrette that is packed with flavor; however, I feel like it might have been just a bit too acidic on the salad. The plate also comes with pickles, which I just loved! In my opinion, the pickles were more sweet, and they perfectly balanced out the salad. I am not sure what type of rice they use, but it was fragrant and reminded me of basmati rice. The rice was cooked to perfection; it was nice and fluffy, and paired very well with the chicken. The chicken did not have as much flavor as I thought it would, which is not really a bad thing. The sauces added more flavor, and I would dip the chicken into the salad dressing too. The chicken had a more herby flavor, which would be perfect for someone who does not like salt or is looking for a lighter meal. Overall, I liked the meal! I had been craving chicken shawarma so I went here for my birthday. The server was very nice. She suggested I try the kabob instead but I had my heart set on shawarma . My food came out promptly and was tasty. My server checked back to make sure I had everything I needed. Before my meal was finished she came out with chicken kabob and asked me to try it. On Monday, after a long stressful week, my friend treated me to Zaatar for lunch. While I was a bit hesitant to try something new, I'm glad he brought me. Located off of Interstate - 10 and close to Pasha, Zaatar was conveniently located to other Middle Eastern / Mediterranean eateries and boasted a menu that made me think of time abroad in Kuwait and Oman. Our server was attentive and brought out our drinks while we browsed the menus. When I say that the customer service was above 5 stars, I'd be being modest. The atmosphere was light as lunch goers dined on Basmati rice and beef kabobs that tantalized my nostrils. Our server took our orders and within minutes had placed our hummus and bread on our table. While hummus is not my go to appetizer, this blend of Chick pea delight had me bouncing in my seat. I decided on an order of a chicken swarma calzone and subbed the fries for basmati rice. My friend ordered a Fattoush salad ( mouth watering) and we treated ourselves to a pot of mint tea to finish our meal. Our server, while busy checked on us multiple times during the lunch rush. He kept my tea cup full and cleaned our table as we ate. I hate that I've lived in San Antonio for 10 years and have not had the pleasure of dining on this cuisine that reminded me of my time in the Army. It was reminiscent of the authentic meals I sampled abroad and was perfectly priced. Ambiance- From the outside it looks like you are going to walk into a large, fancy restaurant but once you get inside it's not too big, looks like a fast food lobby but they seat you and serve you. They also have a drive thru which was a nice surprise, it would be great to grab this food on the go! Food- Everything was delicious! I am a sucker for rice and their rice is perfections! The fried are amazing, they are kind of flat but puffy . . . sounds crazy but they are so good! They hummus had just a pinch of spice, not so much that it ruined the meal, just right.
