The lamb and rice is cheap, fast, and filling. while the lamb and rice itself were tasty and well seasoned, the falafel was mediocre, like it was over-fried until hard and dry and then not-fully-reheated later, and their fries are...pretty unfortunate (and this has been the case on several visits over a few weeks). To give this cart anything less than five stars for the number of times it has saved me from the horrid "food" inside the hospital walls would be a sin. That said- it's good halal. I've had the gyro, wings, and chicken/rice. All good. Hot sauce packs a punch without making the food inedible. All enough for two meals for a light eater like me. All great prices. You can see by the number of hospital workers and students that patronize this truck that you've found either a very good spot, or the only decent spot in the vicinity. It's actually both. This halal cart is such a godsend. Opens 24/7 with reasonable prices and fast service, it has served me well for many nights of cramming. In terms of the actual food, the actual halal food is good, everything else is edible but hit or miss. I found that, because the workers comes in shifts, the quantity of the food varies; some will forget to pul fries or falafel in my combo over rice, etc. Tips: come early for pastries for fresher ones and more variety. Cheese danishes are good, while donuts are a step below Dunkin'. Ice coffee is good although weak, and avoid the hot coffee as there are better options nearby. read more

My coworkers always rave about the *Bacon, Egg + Cheese* so I thought I'd try the *Egg and Cheese on a Roll with a Beef Patty*. They have a breakfast combo for $4 with your sandwich of choice with coffee and their 10 Fl Oz juice. What a steal! Egg and Cheese on a Roll with Beef Sausage | When you split the sandwich down the middle, you see the cheese perfectly melted. They give you plenty of egg inside the sandwich with a thin layer of beef patty. Only thing that bothered me was the diameter of the patty..it didn't cover the entire patty so I tried to adjust it inside the sandwich so I had some in every bite. The patty alone is quite salty however it paired well with the neutral bun, eggs and tangy ketchup. Not a fan of ketchup? Don't worry about it! They ask you ahead of time if you want salt and pepper on your eggs and ketchup inside your sandwich. Overall, good sandwich for a NYC cart! Along with your sandwich, you have the option of picking out a 10 Fl Oz juice. They have two coolers on each side of the window and you can pick your favorite. Sitting out front of the hammer library at Columbia Medical center is a sneaky little cart. It's camouflaged to look just like an ordinary, run of the mill halal stand......Oh but it's so much more. I love street food, doesn't matter where I've been in the world I know for a fact that the best chow I'm going to find is served up by the guy sitting inconspicuously on a street corner. And that guy, who is serving me the local flavor of the local city, probably knows his city better than any guide book I could possibly hope to get my hands on. These guys are no exception. Starting with the food: PERFECT representation of New York halal. They do it better than anyone I know of - yeah I'm looking at you halal guys in midtown. The lamb is perfect the bread is crispy, and the white sauce is laid down like they guy is painting a Van Gogh. Moving on to the guys themselves, they are funny and helpful. Need to know where you are? What time the next bus or subway is coming? You've come to the right place. I know it seems strange to write such a rave review for a street cart, but this is no ordinary halal. Solid little halal cart right in the corner across from NYP hospital. Pretty much everything I expected a halal cart to be: quick, cheap, tasty, and filling. Ended up here after I had a lacking dinner at a nearby restaurant. The menu stated lunch, but it really applied to the whole day. Ordered the combo with half rice and more salad, and the order was ready in less than 3 minutes. Portion was pretty good for $6. Plenty of chicken/lamb, and both were tasty. Texture of the chicken seemed like it was boiled first, then seasoned and reheated to serve. Not saying that's what I saw them doing. It just had that texture is all. The falafels and fries appeared to be more of an afterthought since they were mad soggy. However, considering the price point, honestly no real complaint and it definitely saved me from a hangry episode. read more

If you're looking for good, fast, and cheap near the med center, then look no further. This halal cart is bomb and has no weak points that Ive found. The lamb plate is my favorite but for those who are more veg, the falafel is killer too. Or you can get the combo plate with chicken lamb and falafel. For just $6 it's hard to beat. I'd always recommend getting all the sauces on it, the flavors mesh really well and the red sauce adds a bit of a kick. You might want a drink to cool it down just a bit too. Beyond garbage. This is the lowest quality meat you'll get. And to top it off the taste is bland. The lamb had zero flavor, the rice was plain, the white sauce lacked flavor and the salad is just iceberg lettuce. I would steer clear. Came here for a combination (lamb and chicken) platter over rice: super satisfying, pretty good portion for the price. Platter includes sautéed onions, which is a nice addition that many carts in the city don't have. A little bland on flavor for my taste, but definitely a satisfying dish. This place is pretty nice especially if you're a student near by. It is right outside the Hammer Building. I got the lamb gyro & only $5! They ask white or hot sauce and I got the combination. The lamb gyro was flavorless. The lettuce was like chewing on greens strips of rubber. No tomato. No onion. And they put diced green pepper on it. The green pepper was the only thing I tasted in the whole sandwich. Mayo has more flavor than the white sauce(which had none). It was only there for looks. read more

I NEVER write reviews on here, but this place deserves an exceptional review. I have been visiting this little food truck since moving to Wash Heights in early 2011. We go back a long way. Open at all hours of the day (and night), I can honestly say that i frequented it at almost every conceivable time; early in the morning, in the afternoon, and more often than not - late at night when nothing else was open. I have come here to get food when sober, when high, when drunk...when happy, when pensive, when stressed, when sad...the food tasted good every single time. Its accessibility makes it a sentimental favorite in some ways. This cart was almost like my 'go to' place when i ran out of food at home and didn't feel like paying out of my ass for substandard trash at the local chinese/Gristedes/other spots familiar to people living in Wash Heights. There a number of reasons why this food cart stands out from the others. A simple chicken over rice would cost just $5.50, which is a bargain if you consider the size of the the portion. Unlike the portions you would get in midtown (with the xception of the excellent 53rd and 6th guys), downtown Manhattan, Queens - you definitely get enough to hold you down for a few hours. Unlike other food carts around the city (i'm a bit of a food cart connoisseur, so you can trust me on this) - these guys will serve sides of falafel, french fries (or occasionally some roasted potates) and even some jalapeño peppers to give your rice a bit of a kick. The hot sauce is nowhere near as hot as what you could get at say...buffalo wild wings (blazin) or even the incomparable 53rd and 6th. It's a mild, but 'tangier' (is that a word?) sauce that somehow complements the rice really well. Ultimately, you have a well rounded meal at a price which is about as cheap as it can get in NYC. The food offers enough taste to the pickier eaters, and enough size to those that just wanna stuff themselves. You get whatever you're looking for - you can't say that about most places, which appeal mainly to one or two demographics. The food here indiscriminately attracts people of all sizes and persuasions; fat, skinny, chinese, average and even those that are incredibly buff (like me). So yeah, i totally endorse these guys. Check them out when you can. It's a shame that they haven't got a name for themselves, maybe i'll suggest a few to them. I was in the area and wandered over there tonight (31st Jan 2014, 12:30 AM) only to find out, to my horror, that the cart wasn't there. I hope the guys didn't move. Tender, saturated with flavor huge portion sizes, technically enough for two meals but so good you just can't really stop halfway. The spicy sauce could stand to be spicier and overall the food is a little greasy - but that is something to be expected with street food! What once used to be a great Halal Cart is now a horrible lamb cart! There's some new old lazy guy that works in this cart who is always on his phone and wants to always suck his teeth and give you an unpleasant look if your about to place an order. Before, they used to add pieces of fries, pita bread, pickles or olives for FREE! Now this old man runs his own bullshit show by telling me if I want fries, pieces of pita bread, pickles of olives it would be one extra dollar per selection ....SERIOUSLY? First time I saw this new guy and I ordered a lamb plate....he gave me those for free??? And now he's charging me a dollar per side? What does he have dementia??? I was born yesterday??? Answer is he doesn't like his job and he doesn't wanna work.... And I actually payed a dollar since I was desperate to get some fries on the side....and u could see he was still sucking his teeth and giving me a dirty look! Horrible horrible lunch spot for anyone on the Presbyterian or Colombia university campus...avoid this spot .....make him loose business he doesn't deserve a job serving food if he doesn't have the passion to.! read more
