Located along the eastbound direction of 46 in Parsippany, Halal Platter King is a small family-run operation that serves a tasty, crunchy falafel gyro. No nonsense, no upselling, and probably a place where you should go for takeout instead of a sit-down experience. I went in at 12p on a Wednesday to find the order I had called in 15 minutes ago being finished up. The person manning the store by themselves, to their credit, interrupted themselves to confirm with me whether I'd want hot sauce inside the pita. (I'm sure I could have had it in a container but that makes more trash.) One other person walked in to place an order while I was there, and another phone order came in while I paid. I'll keep it on my radar for when I'm in the area already, but won't go out of my way like I do for Carmel Haifa in Morris Plains. read more

I was not a fan of this restaurant. Staff were inattentive and slow. I was picking up an order I made on doordash and I had to repeat myself several times because the cashier was on his phone and not listening to me. I think I said "My name is Maria, I'm picking up a doordash order" over ten times. I was the only person in the store too. The inside was a bit dingy. The food was okay, nothing to write home about. It was cooked well but lacked flavor. It as also a smaller portion than most platters places give. I'm all for supporting halal businesses but this one was a miss. read more

I gave Halal Platter King a try for take out. The interior is a bit dingy. I guess it's clean enough? It does have a bit of a weird smell. Not sure what it is but I have smelled it before. I noticed that there were a few large trays in the cooking area covered with foil. I didn't see anything actively cooking so I will have to assume that the contents of my meal were prepared earlier in the day and reheated. I ordered the lamb and chicken platter. It was actually better than I thought it would be. The meats were well seasoned with good flavor. The possibly "reheated" lamb and chicken was a bit dry but not bad. The meat is served over Jasmine rice and a little salad. It was a generous portion and a pretty decent value for $12.49. The lone employee running the place was courteous and friendly. I will probably go back to Halal King. Not sure. But probably. Three and one half stars. read more

A welcomed addition to the Parsippany area! It's great to see the expanding variety of cuisines on 46. We walked in, the workers were very sweet and welcoming. The place is very clean and gives plenty of room for socially distanced dining. We ordered the mixed gyro, spicy chicken sandwich with a side of medium fries and onion rings. The food was delicious! It was made fresh and quickly. The gyro had a good balance of meats, lettuce tomatoes and onions. Usually places will have very little and poorly seasoned meat- not the case here. The chicken sandwich was crispy and spicy. The fries were awesome! Huge box for medium fries. They may be replacing some of our usual spots for sandwiches and gyros. read more

being a fan of gyro and 'NYC chicken over rice'- decided to give it a try. though it was late, we called and asked for closing time- it was 11 PM. we were the only ones in there. there is a Bangladeshi couple who run this restaurant and they were very courteous. We ordered- Chicken over rice - Chicken was too red (too much color while mixing?), and my friend did not like it much. Chicken + lamb platter Falafel over rice Lamb over rice - and chicken wings - too salty all platter/ rice plate- it was good except meat portion was less, and why they have cut in tiny pieces. rice-salad side- it was good, but I am still not sure why meat was less on my platter. my expectation was something else. Came here after hitting Recess. It's convenient and it's open but it's not very good. The worker was nice enough, I mean it was also 11pm and we were the only ones in there. We got four platters to go. Most lamb and chicken. My chicken wasn't terrible. I wouldn't recommend it. The rice has a sweet aspect to it that just threw me off. I did like that there were a lot of salad topping options that you could add. Maybe a gyro is the way to go here but I would avoid the rice for sure. They have burgers and chicken on the menu as well. Just basic staples, things youd want after a night out. read more

I'm sorry but NO! Chicken was dry to the point I cannot explain - you have a slow restaurant do not precook everything. toppings were not fresh. I was thrilled to see a new Halal platter restaurant open in the area, so I stopped in for lunch today. Unfortunately the moment I stepped inside I got a bad vibe. There was nobody there. Nobody eating. Nobody behind the counter. Nobody was even in the kitchen (which is in full view). Also, there was no smell of food or cooking. The grill and gyro spit where both empty and showed no sign of recent use. The serving area in front, which contained what I assumed where the ingredients for either the platters or sandwiches, looked like something from a failing Subway franchise. After yelling a quick "hello?" a nice lady emerged from the back. I was ready to head out the door, but I was honestly curious about the empty kitchen and absence of any cooking food, or even a cook. This was the middle of what should be the height of their lunch service. I asked her if they had the gyro platter, which is what I originally had hoped to order, mentioning that I didn't see anything on the gyro spit. She stepped to the side and retrieved a bucket of meat from a small food warmer, and explained it was all premade, and they reheat it. Clearly, it had not been prepared recently; the kitchen was spotless and there wasn't even a lingering essence in the air of food being cooked. I said thank you and departed. Frankly, the only thing saving Halal Platter King from a 1 star rating is I didn't actually eat anything and the lady was nice. If I see more positive reviews maybe I'll give them another shot. read more

I drive past this place regularly, always in a rush somewhere. I finally had the chance to stop last night, and I'm so happy I did! It doesn't look very impressive on the inside, but the food was so good. I got the chicken and rice platter, fully expecting to eat half and save half for tonight's dinner, but before I knew it, I had wolfed down the whole thing. So good! Came around 9pm on a Monday. Called in advance for a pickup order, waited 20 mins before getting there and nothing was ready. Honestly, the establishment has a lot to be desired, but what did I care, this was a take-out order. Food wasn't very good. Chicken smelled off and I took one bite and threw the entire meal in the trash, waste of $11.xx. I'll continue going to Wayne for a chicken platter dish even though I live in Parsippany. I got a couple items, Mixed Chz Steak (asked for no peppers/onions and hot sauce), Mac&Cheese, Mixed Platter over Rice, and Cheese Fries. Mac and cheese was very soggy and kinda tasted like it's been sitting for a hour or two. Cheese Fries were good, just not enough cheese, there was like 5 fries covered with Cheese. And the Mixed ChzSteak, was so disappointed, Not only did I get both peppers and onions, but their Hot Sauce was BBQ, so it was just a weird combo. I wish I could say they were busy and it was isolated to just mine but it was 10:30pm on a Friday, they're open til 2am, and not a soul was in the restaurant, nor did anyone seem like they were working. Sorry for the hard working owners but it just gets worse and worse. Not being busy is problem I think because meats are precooked and kept warm in a warming pot (?) which means they are usually lukewarm and dry when they get served. It will be better to cook the meats specific to the order even it takes longer. May taste decent if you have a hangover late at night. read more
