"Viral" Crispy Shawarma Wrap - Beef
    Michael E.

Amin's Shawarma & Grill isn't exactly new, but I've only recently discovered it. I wish it hadn't taken me so long. Thanks to social media I saw a video (I think on Facebook or Instagram) of them making a huge crispy shawarma wrap that includes freshly made Egyptian beef or chicken shawarma, hot and freshly cut off the gyrator (I got the beef), pickles, garlic sauce, pomegranate vinegar and tahini. It's grilled until crispy and golden on the flat top and comes with extra garlic sauce and pomegranate vinegar for dipping (which you will want to do!) This is now "officially" my favorite sandwich in New Jersey. I'm a frequent visitor to all the fantastic middle eastern restaurants in the Clifton/Paterson area, and have eaten some seriously great shawarma sandwiches there, but this little restaurant in Pine Brook beats them all. There is also so much joy in the restaurant. The owners are thrilled when a new customer comes in and it makes you want to immediately return. Despite the small size of the restaurant, the menu is quite large. I've only had the shawarma wrap so far, but next time I'm getting the Egyptian Koshary, which has rice, chicken peas, pasta, and is topped with fried onions, and red vinegar garlic sauce. Also, their smoothies look fantastic. Please don't make my mistake, try Amin's Shawarma & Grill NOW!

Pretty fast service. So far I've only ordered once but I know I'll be coming back. I can't say I'll go back for falafels but I feel like every restaurant has their star dishes. And here, Koshary was hands down my favorite..but I could also get another serving of their Egyptian eggplant dish Mesaaah. But going back to koshary..where has it been all of my life ?? It's perfect for carb loading and really hits the spot. It was nice of them to put the lemon liquid on the side so you could also tailor it to however authentic you wanted it, I suppose. It was a casual spot and I didn't see much people when I went to pick up my order so I think it's mostly a takeout spot but either way, I would say it's affordable and just all around delicious.

Stopped in at Amin's for takeout and had a great experience! Every dish we tried was excellent, and very reasonably priced. We had Amin's mixed grill (chicken kebob, shawarma, and beef kofta). The kids LOVED the beef kofta - "it's like a hamburger but so much better". They also have a menu of Egyptian specialties, which I can't wait to explore more of. We tried the Macaroni Bechemel, which was absolutely delicious! Besides for the excellent food, the experience was great too - very friendly person taking the orders and offering helpful advice on the menu. Can't wait to return!

I have had the opportunity to go to Egypt five separate times over the years and one of the things that I love the most is the food. The biggest compliment that I could give to this restaurant is to say that if I closed my eyes and was given this food to eat, I genuinely would not know if I was in Egypt or the US. It is so so good and actually authentic! I would give it more than five stars if I could :-)

Where do I even begin with my experience here at Amins Shawarma & Grill? When you first walk in the ambiance is esthetically pleasing. I love the cute signs they have on the walls "Hey Habibi" and "Enjoy Habibi". The owners are so sweet and amazing people and always make you feel welcomed and like family. They have a wonderful variety of delicious eats you have to get your hands on! I love their beef shawarma wrap with extra veggies and extra tahini and their beef cheesesteak! Not only are the main eats amazing so are the yummy sides and amazing desserts and sips too! I really enjoy their Dubai chocolate bar that was recently added to their menu. If you want to enjoy some delicious middle eastern food they have that on the menu too! I really recommend any one and everyone to stop by to try some

Cute little restaurant with friendly owners and amazing food. We had the OMY burger (huge) with crispy, crunchy fries and the gyro on pita. Really hit the spot and came quick. Wish I lived closer; I'd be there every day!

Food is DELICIOUS!! We had the beef shawarma and kids had a chicken shawarma. Definitely full of flavor. The lemon-mint juice is also pretty yummy and the sweetness is adjustable. The mixed fruit smoothie was well liked by the kiddos. Service was pretty good. Very friendly!! There's not a lot of seating. They have 1 table with two chairs and a bench outside.

I was the last to eat, so I was surprised that it was still warm and not soggy. Packaging was executed very well for delivery. The shawarma had juicy and crispy pieces. Nicely seasoned. The wrap also had tomatoes and I believe pickled turnips. Turnips were pretty acidic and salty which made them poignant on their own; however, they were excellent in the sandwich as they provided a perfect compliment to the savory meat. I think the laffa was lightly fried and pressed which made it very sturdy. It great introduction to Egyptian food for those who enjoy burritos. I also sampled the falafel, the hummus, and the babaghanoush. I enjoyed the falafel and the babaghanoush the most out of those three. Falafel was crispy without being dry. I'm eager to try these freshly fried at the restaurant.

Order came with a (hugeeee) 12 oz. ribeye and 10 oz. lobster tail. Both were as good as it gets anywhere. ++++ Branzino with rice and fries was excellent! The branzino was extremely bony, as you would expect, but the fish meat was sooooooo good. Rice was very flavorful and the fries were some of the crispiest I've EVER had. ++++ Mint Lemonade was absolutely refreshing. One of the best refresher drinks we've ever had anywhere. + Spacious and bright interior. Bright blue and white walls and floors make you feel like you're actually in the Mediterranean. + Parking lot is right outside of the restaurant and there are 8 spots in total, but it's on a steep slope that leads up to the restaurant entrance. THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - The waiter was very, verrrry nice, but, for some odd reason, the side of rice for the Branzino came out 30 minutes after the Branzino arrived on the table!!!! This is not an exaggeration. The waiter kept promising it was coming out soon, but it just took longer and longer and longer to arrive till I was already done with my entree. - The restaurant automatically added a service charge of 15% for just the 2 of us. Typically, you see this for large parties, NOT for parties of 2. With that said, we were a bit surprised it was only 15% though considering 18% seems like the minimum these days. MIXED THOUGHTS --------------------------- = Nada. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Dined here on an early Monday afternoon from 12:15 - 1:45 and only when we were leaving did another party finnnnaaaalllly come in. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves until then. CONCLUSION -------------------- = Bottom line, the food is spectacular here. I don't use that word lightly. Our meal here was as good as we've had in a longgg time.

I'd been dying to finally try their renowned Palestinian food. I came on a Friday night, and the restaurant was packed with families and large parties. They even offer valet parking--which tells you something about how popular this place is. And forget paying extra for bread. They start you off with a whole basket of 4-5 pieces of soft, house-made pita, along with pickled vegetables. The menu has both small plates (hot and cold mezze) and entrees, but we really wanted to sample as much as possible, so we went with the small plates. We ordered the fried cauliflower, fried cheese, lamb and beef sausage, and falafel. Everything was truly incredible, and the portions were very generous. The cauliflower was a little oily, but that's to be expected with fried cauliflower. It still had an amazing crunch, and they brought us complimentary toum and hummus for dipping, which was such a nice touch. The fried cheese was incredibly fresh and crispy with a light saltiness that made it hard to stop eating. But the falafel was the star for me--and probably the best I've ever had. Falafel usually isn't something I order first; I'm pretty take-it-or-leave-it about it. But these completely changed my mind. They're longer and more oblong than the usual round falafel, and the texture and flavor were fantastic. The lamb sausage was also really good. The only item that felt just okay compared with everything else was the beef sausage. On the drinks front, they don't have fountain drinks--only Boylan sodas. Sadly, no Diet Coke, but that was a very minor point. The service was amazing all night, and between the generous portions and all the different plates, we had plenty of leftovers to take home. They also have a smaller takeout location very close by if you can't get a reservation at the main restaurant. Overall: Al Basha absolutely lived up to the hype. Incredible Palestinian food, generous portions, warm service, and some seriously memorable falafel. Definitely worth the trip to Paterson.
