In my book, Al Aqsa is an early contender for the best restaurant to open in the area in 2023. The chicken schwarma wrap I had was flavorful, savory, and full of soft and crispy texture. The dark meat remained moist and the sharpness of the peppers kept it lively. A generous portion of hummus, flavored with beef and full of almonds, was creamy, complexly seasoned, and served with plenty of bread. I'd serve it for Super Bowl Sunday. It's relatively inexpensive, worth taking the trip up 287 for, and offers a full dining room. I'll be back! read more

I wanted to try a place that I have always passed by on my way to work. I stopped in and ordered take out for lunch. There is a medium sized dining room that is painted in a nice upbeat color for you to enjoy your meal. I ordered the Lamb Kebab Platter. It is advertised as coming with two grilled skewers of marinated lamb, grilled vegetables, and tahini sauce on the side. The food service came out a little slower than expected which if it wasn't so warm and humid inside the restaurant it wouldn't have made the wait that noticeable. The lamb was a little tough for my liking and lacked flavor. The only flavor that I was able to get from my meal was a HEAVY taste of cinnamon from the rice. The grilled vegetables was a sliver of tomato and a few slices of onion. I was a little disappointed with the meal because of the lack of flavor and portion size. I doubt I will be back there are better options in the area such as kabob paradise. read more

Very fast delivery and my food was still hot off the grill. Filet was phenomenal, well seasoned and tender. I loved the spicy pita bread and definitely will get extra next time. I didn't love the rice, I was not a fan of the cinnamon flavor and prefer more of the kind that places like fasil and Elma's use. If you love onions (i don't) the little side of grilled veggies is all onion with a little pepper and tomato.Yogurt sauce is some of the best in the area. read more

I'm giving this place a 5* as we were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. We went Sunday which was very quiet in the whole town. We had prompt and very friendly service and once our food was served someone came out from back and watched our reaction - when I looked up their face was questioning like if it was all to our liking and I gave a big smile and a thumbs up - they had a big smile :) We tried a few things. An appetizer with hummus, baba ganouj, falafel, pickled veggies and salad. Hummus just delicious - creamy smooth, baba ganouj was as good as I've had (better than my own homecare) and veggies very good. Falafel deserves a call out on it's own. I'm very picky. I think Egyptian fava bean based is the best but this? YUM. It was chick pea based I think with a lot of parsely or greens and I think it could have been the best I've had. Must have again soon! We had the Kibbeh as well and it was delicious. Lots of food and took much home. For a main course we had Lamb platter and chicken shawarma sandwich. Both beautifully seasoned, moist and delicious. My boyfriend would have preferred the lamb have the sauce on the side but otherwise both were a home run. While traveling through the mid-east, I enjoyed trying everything and I can't remember feeling the real essence of that food except for this restaurant and possibly a few shawarma places in paterson. I think we did it right for this place. Ordering a variety allowed us to really enjoy all the regional flavors. So happy this place has joined the Boonton family of ethnic restaurants. read more

This restaurant was completely empty for the duration i was here. the food was okay, however, the service was NOT good. the waiter couldnt even speak english well. he charged us for fries even though it came as sides with the platter we had ordered. we didnt get served for water, and i finally asked after we had gotten our food. and we received bottled water... i thought that was really weird. but then we got charged for it; 2 dollars each, and there were 6 of us. that is ridiculous, i have never been to a restaurant with this kind of service. will definitely not be coming back. read more

On our way back home, stopped in Boonton, NJ and stopped here because it was one of the only places in the area open on a Sunday evening. The server was very patient with us. I ordered the hibiscus drink; heads up it isn't sweet. I expected the avocado salad to be more like guacamole but it had more herbs than I anticipated. Very yummy! I devoured the chicken shawarma and kept wanting to eat more even when I was full. I am getting the baklava to go. read more

I adore this restaurant! The chicken shawarma sandwich is very flavorful and delicious. I love the assorted pickled vegetables they include with the sandwich, it adds a wonderful zesty flavor that pairs well with the seasoned fries and sandwich. I got one falafel sandwich, one gyro and chicken shawarma sandwiches and 2 chicken shawarma platters. The chicken marination was pretty good and the gyro marination was pretty good. The reason for the two stars if the quality of the chicken. It was extremely dry. Almost impossible to eat by it self. Worth trying out once but won't be going back. read more

Food was average at most. The Gyro platter was one of the worst I have eaten. They throw gyro meat onto of the fries and gave no salad. The pita bread was two very small pieces. The best Middle Eastern food around here. I've tried many in the general morris county area, but by far this is the best around. The meat is very flavorful (which I find other places lack) and so juicy/moist. I usually find that chicken kebabs can be dry but this was far from dry! Not pictured - the falafel platter appetizer was very good as well. It came with hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel which was perfectly spiced & crispy on the outside while still fluffy on the inside, pickled veggies and a small salad. We stopped on our way back from a road trip and stumbled onto this gem! Probably the best middle eastern food that we have had ever in the US! Incredible hummus, chopped salad and falafel. Very good middle eastern food at a reasonable price. Had a Kofte wrap and a Falafel platter (green salad, hummus, baba ghanoush and falafel). Kofte wrap was excellent as was the falafel (best falafel I've had in NJ since Al Basha's falafel went down-hill in Paterson). Hummus was very good and baba ghanoush was good. Only complaint was that the pita served with the platter is the generic "sahara pita"... not my favorite pita, but the overall food quality is excellent. The food is excellent, and they would get more stars from me, but the people taking orders over the phone don't listen well. So far 4 out of 5 times I have ordered takeout, the order is screwed up. Case in point last night, what I thought I had ordered were the falafel appetizer and a kofta kabob. When I was shocked by the price, I questioned if they had given me the falafel appetizer. Last night I had dinner at AL-AQSA, the new Middle Eastern restaurant on Mainstreet in Boonton. The restaurant had been open for only ten days, and the food was delicious. The chicken Shawarma sandwich was hands down the best I ever had. I no longer need to travel to Woodland Park for a great Chicken shawarma sandwich. We also ordered kabobs, salad, and lentil soup.
