    Doner Rice Bowl
    Danielle P.

I've been struggling with how to rate Doner because we're spoiled here with the amount of halal spots and trucks that serve twice the portions Doner does at half the price. In my opinion, they've taken something that wasn't broken and modernized it into a fast casual restaurant, which I guess is convenient. But I was in the area, I was hungry and still had a few more hours of errands to run, so this became my spot for a healthy ish lunch. I walked in and saw they had mobile kiosks you could ordered from, so I went and selected a rice bowl with both chicken and beef, white and red sauces. However, after multiple attempts the machine wouldn't let me check out, so I ended up ordering at the front anyway. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty, my food took a while to prepare. Maybe they were backed up with to-go orders. The order itself was pretty tasty, but the portions are small. My order came to $14 total, which would've gone farther at King of Falafel. Overall, not a bad spot, but not something you need to run out and try.

This place was so clean and smelled delicious when walking in. The cashier was friendly and offered help with any questions about the menu on the screen. The sandwich was very tasty. Like something. Similar but different still. It reminded me of halal or Mediterranean food, but compacted into a sandwich. We were given a special garlic sauce as well which definitely upped the flavor even more. I also ordered a side of cheesy fries. The fries were thick and plumped with a nice crisp bite to them. I would recommend checking this spot out.

Quality Doner meats & food here. Boss Box is a pretty good deal however I wish they would give a larger portion of fries with it. Inside is quiet and clean. The service is great they take their time to prepare your food and to get your order right. They have a variety of yummy sauces which I love. Some might say they are a tadbit expensive but the quality of food is worth it in my opinion.

Big big fan of Doner; This place has been on my Hit list for the last six months last week. I finally was in the area found the parking spot and ran inside to give this place a go. Greeted by very, very polite, young lady who explained their menu and advised me . Place was very clean and spotless love the fact that they have open glass to the entire kitchen so you could see your food being cooked and handled as well .... For me, this was the first time trying German doner; I tried their Doner Rice bowl; it was good at best; their Doner meat is very tasty good quality of meat being used; the rice & salad is what it is .... Also got a side of Doner meat on the side because if you see the portion of meat, rice & salad for $12.99 it's definitely on the smaller side compared to the Halal Halal & the greeks guys... Their white sauce is ok but i think it needs a lil help & their hot sauce is like a shrimp cocktail sauce with a little touch of barbecue sauce in it definitely not what I expected for a hot sauce. It was on the sweet tangy side, not a fan.... Would I recommend this place? Yes no maybe or maybe not.... Would I go out of my way to go eat here? Definitely would not if I was in the area and I was hungry yeah sure. going forward, I will stick to my favorite Gyro donor spots; My Halal Halal guys & My Greeks.. Thanks, Greg D. & family

    Chicken Spring Roll

I came in for a quick bite while shopping. The young man at the counter was quite pleasant. I ordered the spring rolls. They had a zing to them. The menu indicated spicy and they were just the right amount of spice. They contained pickled jalapeños and the chicken was seasoned very nicely. The sauce that accompanied the rolls was mayo based. Seasoned nicely and was cooling to the tongue. A nice accompaniment to offset the heat. My only gripe was how oily the outer shell was. Definitely needed a few napkins for just two rolls. I ended up using a fork and knife. Would still get them again. I'll be back for more and will update when I do!

Food was ok, generous portion and well-seasoned but overall not the best value. I would prefer a shawarma from one of the many spots on Steinway instead. I did like the bread and the white sauce. Didn't like the red sauce, it wasn't spicy and tasted like tomato sauce. Service was quick and the place was clean.

I never knew what a German doner kebab was. And was Soo happy to try this place, the food is super fresh and yummy ! Very unique and the staff is really friendly. I got the chicken doner kebab and with the sauce it was delish. Definitely worth a try!

My first doner kebab experience. Was excited to see there was a Queens location for this place outside of Midtown Manhattan. A couple of pros and cons to break down about the food and experience: Pros - Very generous portions, the kebab quality overall was great - pita, meat, and veggies. Also comes with a side of fries and drink if you add a combo to it. Very clean and spacious eating area to stop by. Even the boxing and wrapping is nicely done to keep the kebab from getting soggy if you walk far after picking up the item. Service was prompt and they have a kiosk system if you're in a hurry to order in. Cons - This place can be pricey as my combo came out to be $16.00 after tax. And just the doner kebab alone is already a solid $12.00 itself. Once in a blue moon, I don't mind chowing down on this zesty treat but not constantly just to save a couple of bucks. Still a solid experience and not bad for the first time.

    boss box

got the boss box which cost $23 (post tax) and was pretty disappointed by what it included. The fries are probably the worst i can remember having - thick cut but not double fried so they taste stale or not fried compeltely through. Sandwich and rolls were ok but beef and lamb didnt taste as good as any of the other middle eastern places ive been on steinway. they also didnt give me any of the sauce that was included and when I went back to ask for some they said they were out except for the spicy sauce and then i asked again if ai could just get that one they gave me the other sauces too.

My daughter ordered kebabs for dinner for delivery. It said it would be by us in 15-30 minutes - it ended up taking over an hour and a half. I heard this place is busy but didn't know it was that popular for it to take this long. We ordered chicken kebabs and cheese fries. I have kebabs all the time in Europe and I didn't have too high of expectations but thought it would be as good as everyone says. The kebab barely had any meat. I will say that the bread was very tasty and fresh. The fries were okay - there was just some cheese on the top and they were served cold - if they were warm I think they'd be better. I put the fries in the kebab and ended up eating it like that. It was just okay - I was hungry but I don't know if I'll order from here again.

Junior OG and Beef Crispy Doner Roll

They run BOGO deals every Tuesday. But now they made World Kebab Day a five day event with almost half price deals. This finally got me in the door. I had a $4 Junior beef OG and a $1 Beef Crispy Doner Roll for lunch. The atmosphere was barely tolerable. Air conditioning is so lukewarm, definitely in energy saver mode. The overwhelming black color palette is depressing. There are three two seat tables along a wall, but along a glass wall abutting the kitchen. It felt like an absolute fishbowl, so I moved to an empty a four seater. The roll was okay. I devoured it as an appetizer. I should have used napkins to blot out the oil. It wasn't excessive, but oil is empty calories. The Junior OG wasn't bad, but not something I want to eat again either. A bit spicy. Fries are overpriced at $5. I may return for deals twice a month to avoid fast food. But there's nothing distinctive or memorable about it.

    Michael C.

Its essentially the Mc Donalds of kebab style food. The food is ok at best, not a lot of meat for the price youre paying. It tasted good, we had the original kebad with fries. Im i happy that this is here instead of a popeyes or taco bell ? Of course. Is it smarter to eat out of any of the surrounding food trucks if youre looking for most volume for your buck ? Absolutely!! Good place to sit and have a snack, use the restroom, get in & out ! Would i go back ? Very unlikely. Music was really loud, me & the cashier could hardly hear each other. The menu is very limited as a whole. The sauces are extra and the ambience there seemed rushed and chaotic. Best of luck.

Doner spring rolls... Has quite a kick and I was surprised by the spice level

The meal was seamless from start to finish, the food, the service, the atmosphere was all great. Food came out quick and our waiter Kais took care of our group effotlessly. I really enjoyed my meal overall, I would say the apps and mains were both delicious but I would give an edge to the mains. The food: Borani Banjan- This was the highlight app for me with some freshly made Afghai Naan. Man this was so good and a must order. The eggplant was cooked perfectly. Bamia- This was like a stewed Okra and I loved this dish, the okra was cooked down but the flavor was so damn good. Mantu- This was a nice delicate dumpling, it was made well but because of the cumin I couldn't help think it reminded me of Tex Mex food. Aushuk- This was OK, it was kinda strange because there was this fermented flavor to it that kinda bothered me. Chicken Afghani Kabab- I am shocked to say this but the chicken was my favorite protein. It was perfection, it was perfectly juicy with a nice smokey outer char, this was amazing. Uzbeki Qabuli Pulao- This was a braised lamb shank and was no teeth required tender. It so incredibly delicate and so delicious. Salmon- Fat slabs of salmon cooked to perfection with a nice outer smokey char. So good. Lamb Kabab- This was fine but not as exciting as the above. The lamb was chewier than I was hoping but the flavor was nice. Beef Kofta- It was like a ground meat patty. It was ok, it was a bit chewy and a bit dry but it was alright. The two I want to try on my next visit is the shrimp and the lamb chops, can't wait for a second visit.

There are only a handful of Afghan spots in Astoria and I love that they're still around after 20+ years. We started off with their complimentary fresh Afghan bread which was warm, light, and fresh! It pairs well with their white, green, and red sauces. The Samosas were fresh, perfectly crispy, with seasoned ground beef. The filling was a bit sparse and definitely could've used a lot more to make it more satisfying. It's served with a white sauce that's different than the white sauce in the bottle, so I highly recommend dipping your samosas into that one. Now for the main - you can't go wrong with the Combo Kebab. The basmati rice is super fluffy, aromatic, and exceptionally seasoned. It even had a slight sweetness to it this time. I also love the addition of carrots and raisins which might sound weird to most people but adds a layer of crunch, sweetness, and balance to the meats. The meats were grilled fresh on charcoal and were tender and flavorful. Despite this, the pieces of chicken and meat were pretty small (especially compared to other Afghan restaurants) and if they do prefer to use smaller pieces, there should be at least 8 per order to balance out the ratio of rice. I had so much leftover rice with no protein to go with. Nonetheless, it was super satisfying. It also came with a complimentary salad which is was light and refreshing, especially with their white sauce. We ended with the Firny which was actually delicious! It's light, sweet, slightly floral, and you get the crunch from the pistachios. Great note to end on and great for sharing if you just want a quick sweet bite. All in all, although there's better Afghan restaurants in Queens, you will leave here pretty satisfied!

I placed my order on the app for a munch box which gives you a mini döner wrap with a small side of fries. Order pick up was quick and easy. The wrap was very tasty. I opted for zabiha halal chicken as the protein, but you also have the option of beef or a mix of the two. It came wrapped with veggies and a creamy sauce. The fries were seasoned well, but not as crisp as I would have liked it. I'm not sure if it's just like that on the norm or the got soggy in transport to home. Overall I enjoyed the meal. I would come back for another meal.

I've heard of good reviews from someone I know, so decided to check it out for myself when I was in…read morethe area. I walked in with a friend. We saw a few people seated, but was able to find a spot quickly. My friend and I decided to share a shawarma platter because we both weren't too hungry. Before we got our platter, we were treated with chips & dip. The chip itself was deep fried & oily, but tasted so crunchy & good. The dip was slightly on the spicy side, but nothing we both couldn't handle. Soon after, we got our MIXED SHAWARMA PLATTER. We opted for a cucumber/tomato salad & baba ganosh as our 2 sides. I would suggest these two options as the salad balances out the meat & the dip give a good neutral balance. Since they only give one pita for the dish, we had to split it in half for us to share. From the shawarma meats, to the salad, to the baba ganoush - everything was flavored so well! We were both nodding while eating it because it was so good. When you put everything into the pita and eat it, it's mixes well and I devoured my portion very quickly. I really did enjoy the food here.

The people, the food, the energy and FEEL of the place - the workers are friendly and ready to give you a GREAT experience! We walked into a packed restaurant (barely any standing room to wait or order) and the kitchen was moving and shaking to fill orders faster than anything I've seen in a long time. The food is on display - it is ALL fresh and refilled (often)... people are waiting patiently for these high quality dishes! I ordered the lamb and chicken kabobs with some rice and a couple smaller salads. We also had some hummus and bread - OMG, the creamiest humus I've ever had topped with some type of pickled garnish, PERFECTLY delicious! When the food came, I was overwhelmed with flavor and tender, juicy meats that were perfectly seasoned cooked on the outside (char but no burn) while keeping the juices flowing! Everything was absolutely fantastic, zero disappointments!
