The wait is literally ALWAYS at least 15-20minutes even on slow days. The last 10 times I've been here for a simple latte it's been not busy yet the wait is still horrendous. To avoid this, I tried calling it in. So when I get there the cashier tells me they never received the call and acts clueless. She then tells me it's hard to hear on the phone, basically telling me she either forgot or just said screw me even though she confirmed my order at the end of the phone call. This coffee shop is such a great convenient spot if you walk the area frequently which I do. Unfortunately, coffee prices are so high. I ordered a regular sized latte to go with almond milk and a splash of Irish creme syrup which came out to $8 and some change including a $1 tip. That's more than Starbucks and it wasn't the most extraordinary coffee I've ever had so it didn't justify the price. Service was friendly and the place looks like a great place to sit and relax or study. Unfortunately, I was approached twice to notify me they're no longer dog friendly. Big bummer. Went for brunch on a Saturday and were seated quickly. Surprisingly, they had parking available right up front too. It was our lucky day. I really wanted a coffee or a tea, but it was brunch, so I got a mimosa. Since I was on my health kick, I ordered the veggie skillet. It was really good. I was impressed. It came with toast and strawberry jam. The jam was delicious. The toast and jam helped me not regret my healthier choice. We did have waiter service, but I think at one point anyone else coming in had to order at the counter. They do have free WiFi, so it's a nice place to study. I love studying at Halcyon, even though I'm not usually a coffee shop studier. The lighting isn't too bright, the music isn't too loud, and the conversations make the perfect background noise. I often get their latte of the week to switch it up, it's always something different and usually themed. I also like that they're open late, until 12 AM Sunday through Thursday and 2 AM on weekends. I've been here a couple of times now, truly only due to proximity, but this last time pushed me over the edge. The quality of service in this establishment is just flat out disrespectful, especially considering their higher than average prices. To start, when placing my order both times I have been, the cashiers seem to be extremely annoyed as if I'm disturbing their social hour. I tried to look past that as I was just there to get my drink and do some reading. I was particularly triggered after repeating my order twice and having it read back to me for accuracy, and somehow they still found a way to give me the incorrect drink. When I brought it to their attention that the drink that I wanted was not what I got, they proceeded to tell me that they were out of ingredients for my requested drink. Instead of doing me the courtesy of telling me they were out of that drink and asking what I would like instead, they just handed me a random coffee. It was eventually remedied but it required me requesting a new drink, where the employees seemed annoyed at the fact that I was upset rather than apologetic for there careless mistakes. For there to be 4 employees standing behind the counter, there's really no excuse for those kind of mistakes barring there was not a rush by any means at the time of day that I attended. The employees were much more concerned with their conversations than they were with properly serving paying customers. After ordering my coffee, I found an open workspace only to find the table, covered with dirty dishes and used napkins. It was disgusting to see that this was not the only table in this condition. When I was served my coffee I was hoping that the waitress would have the awareness to pickup the dirty dishes that were flooding the table, but she didn't. I had to ask her to pick up the dirty dishes, where she proceeded to respond in a very annoyed manner before grabbing the dishes. I'm typically very graceful with servers understanding it can be a stressful profession, but knowing that there were 4 people "working" and the level for service was this careless was extremely rude. I really hope that this place can find people who can simply listen and handle basic operations opposed to standing behind the counter gossiping all night. The only good thing I will say about this experience was when I went to inform the barista of the mistake, the manager seemed to be near by and she was very cordial asking me what I would like as a replacement after hearing the barista say that the drink I requested was out of stock. She even looked at my drink while I was confirming if it was correct and she immediately knew that was not the correct drink. She seems to be doing a decent job, and from what I could tell she was also helping manage the brewhouse that was next door, as I know they are run together. I really hope this place can turn things around because the food is good and location is perfect, they just seem to have bad employees who couldn't care less about customer satisfaction. read more

Flies made great entertainment for the all of the guest waiting an hour for their food. Noises of failed attempts to swat the swarm. It may be a bar at night and coffeshop by day, but my experience today made me think that it doesn't seem like a viable / good thing for a shop to double that way. The coffee was great! And the whole vibe of the restaurant was honestly really cool and they were playing some sweet tunes. Indoor and outdoor seating available which is nice. My only quarrel is that there were A LOT of flies inside. They were buzzing all around and even though inside was nice it didn't feel very clean at all. But my main issue was with the flies, I was kind of shocked with how many there were. It is a nice spot though and the coffee was actually really good so I think it still earns four stars in my book. Halycon is an all encompassing place for me in Southtown. It is the coffee kingdom, it has brunch, s'mores, a soda if you're just feeling thirsty and booze if you wanna party. I've loved Halcyon in the past. I tried taking my little sister out for brunch and the food was as a huge disappointment. The potatoes were burnt, the food was not served hot, the salmon was a bit slimy (it was cooked) and they barely put a few shreds of it. When I read that this would come with salmon, I didn't think they were going to sprinkle a shmeggle of shredded salmon. It was kind of disturbing. I saw a lot of customers praising for it and saw something on the display about it so I wanted to give it a try. To be on a safer side I ordered the avocado smoosh toast as well. Overnight French Toast - 5/5 it was one of the best one I had. The sauce was not too sweet as well. We loved it. Definitely must try. Veggie skillet - 4.5/5 that was nice and loved the mushrooms in there. It was perfectly good. Avocado smoosh toast - 4/5 we could eat it there as we were full. This place became our breakfast spot for several days we were in San Antonio. Lots of space and great menus, featuring outstanding skillets that can feed an army and coffee. Note that you have to order at the cashier's during the weekdays and waiter service during weekends. I personally loved their Vietnamese coffee, not to sweet and great in muggy weather. It's a nice spot to get some work done too. I do have a teeny recommendation. I popped in on a whim as I was hanging out with a friend in the area. This coffee bar has such a cool feeling when you walk in. It's an open space with exposed brick and industrial style decor all around that is extremely inviting! Upon arriving at the bar area I ordered up a carajillo which is a traditional coffee drink in Spain and many Latin American countries. Best move I've made in a while. The drink was made really well! I can't forget about their food. We just tried the chicken biscuit, the avocado toast with salmon, and the nacho tots. I honestly love them all. They also have a few tables/ chairs, but it definitely isn't group friendly and I imagine it can get crazy busy. You order at the bar then have a seat and they bring the food to you, but you go to the bar to get your drinks. The lady taking our order was so kind and friendly - she definitely loved her job & being able to talk to people. It was a nice change to have someone so happy to be working customer service. I very much enjoyed studying here on a weekday afternoon! It wasn't quiet and there's music constantly playing, but it wasn't too noisy. The coffees tasted great (americano and cortado). And the girls behind the counter were so friendly and kind. My only note (which isn't enough to dock a star) is that there were a few flies in the back corner that kept bugging me, so I ended up moving around when a different table opened up. I went to Halcyon this past weekend for brunch with one of my friends. This was my first time ever going to this restaurant so I wasn't really sure what to expect. When we arrived, the place was crowded. Absolutely no room to park in the small parking lot behind Halcyon. Eventually, we parked on the street in a nearby neighborhood and just walked over. It wasn't a terrible walk so we honestly didn't mind. There wasn't a line at the front so someone was immediately able to seat us. The only available place for us to sit was outside at the tiny bar, which we settled for. Eventually, when one of the tables freed up my friend and I migrated over to it and took a seat there. We still ended up sitting outside but neither of us minded since the weather was just PERFECT. We were quickly served our drinks after we sat down. I ordered the cappuccino and my friend ordered the Long Island Iced Coffee. The cappuccino was honestly one of the best that I've had in a while. The flavor was good and intense. I also loved how they put a bear on top of my drink. It looked almost too pretty to drink! The Long Island Iced Coffee was also great! It was pretty strong but the flavor was so nice that it didn't really matter. The food took an oddly long time to arrive after we ordered it but it was so busy that we kind of understood. Luckily, we brought a card game to play while we waited so it didn't feel like forever. Eventually, our food arrived. I ordered the Overnight French Toast and my friend ordered the Eggs Benedict. The Overnight French Toast was not what I was expecting it to be, it was honestly better than what I was expecting. It was fresh, and well-presented. The cream cheese on top was amazing. It wasn't too sweet, but just perfect. The fruit on tp paired perfectly with the cream cheese topping. The chocolate on top was hidden beneath the cream cheese so it surprised me but it was an amazing addition to the dish. The staff at Halcyon were friendly but not exceptional. I liked their atmosphere and the DJ that they had playing music during their brunch hours. I am also a huge fan of their dog-friendly atmosphere. I just wasn't a fan of their small parking lot, and their prices are a bit high for what they're offering. Overall, I would highly recommend Halcyon to anyone looking for a cute place to go for brunch. You might have to splurge a bit but it is totally worth it. read more

I ordered a vanilla latte with chicken & waffles: I received the food way before I received the coffee and it was downhill from there. It took about 25 minutes to receive my coffee & that's after me inquiring about the status of it. The fruit salad was mostly melons with three tiny pineapple pieces and two blueberries. I asked for no potatoes, and the dish still brought potatoes, heavily seasoned so their seasoning got everywhere. My husband ordered double bacon on his sandwich and he had three strips of bacon, which he found disappointing and surprising: how much bacon would it have carried if he hadn't asked for double?
