Came back to my old stomping grounds, San Antonio Texas!!! My daughter brought me to this little coffee shop. It's small but very cute with nice seating. We ordered drinks and they were both absolutely delicious.! They have a food menu also with sandwiches that she says she's had before and highly recommends. The service was really quick and the people behind the counter were really friendly. If you find yourself in this area, this coffee shop blows any big chain coffee shop out of the water, you really should give it a try! read more

Recommend: Maybe for the ambiance, outdoor seating area, and staff. Food: I honestly can't recall what specific coffee I believe it was a latte and a bar with poppy seeds. I had to get a refund on the pastry because the consistency felt as if it had been left out for a while and its taste wasn't pleasant at all. Service: The guy who was at the register was very friendly. He answered all my questions regarding the different coffees and patient through it all. Even when I went to return the pastry he was very kind about it. Ambiance: It's a very cozy little place. I think the best time to visit this coffee shop is probably during the early fall/early spring . That way you can take advantage of the outdoor patio. The parking is limited and a little rocky. It was a little too pricey in my opinion. I paid nearly $20 for a croissant sandwich that wasn't all that great, along with a small coffee. The fruit that came with it seemed overripe. The guy at the register was friendly, but he seemed more interested in his phone than greeting customers or offering suggestions to someone who clearly hadn't been there before. Really great coffee! The barista was nice, and it was nice and quaint and quiet. I would love to come here when studying. It's a small indoor but when it's not busy it should be nice. I wouldn't say Id crave this coffee but it's tasty and when I'm around the area I'd be happy to come! The prices were off just a bit. Stages $4.50 with coffee, 0.80 for syrup and $1 for milk... should have been $6.30, maybe $6.90 at most with tax and I was charged $7.50... read more

I got cappuccino and a ham, cheese, and egg croissant and it was AMAZING (big props to the chef and barista!). Highly recommend. The atmosphere is super and the service was great. Came here on a whim since I was already close by, and I absolutely loved the vibe of the place and the staff was friendly. I got the barista signature drink (I forget the name) but it was a matcha with Ube, so yummy!!! And an oatmeal raisin cookie, they even heated it up and put it in a little brown bag for me to take to-go. read more

As the old adage goes, "if you mess with the bull, you'll get the horns." That's exactly what I thought when I saw a bull fixture arrayed in the French tri-color prominently displayed on the front lawn outside this establishment. This, of course, immediately caught my attention and I had to investigate further! While there is no parking lot, street parking is available. I walked in and approached the front counter. The interior is pleasant, with multiple windows providing ample light, plants, and comfortable chairs. The menu offers an array of coffee, pastries, beer, wine, and breakfast and lunch items. I walked into this place looking for somewhere that they sell croissants and I'm glad I went here! The young boy in the front making the coffee was so welcoming and sweet I didn't get his name unfortunately ! I told him what kind of coffee I like and he made it exactly how I love my coffee it was delicious! I got the southwest croissant which was amazing and filling, I definitely recommend this place! one of the girls who worked there rushed the fuck out of my order. i just showed up with my friend. maybe my second time ever going there? so i had to look at the menu for atleast a minute. not 1 second after walking up to the menu she goes "WHAT CAN I GET FOR YOU?" then stares at us til we order. not even a reccomendation or common fuckin hospitality. literally felt forced to order just to get the transaction over with. wont ever go again tho that was wack. i ordered my drink and my friends drink/kolache and she asked TO GO?????? i said "oh its for here, were gonna sit down" then she repeats "TO GO?????" she meant for the cups, i know that now. but fucking say that? lmfao very much hates her life and her job. i also saw the guy making our coffee put his fingers in his mouth after he finished our drinks and called our order. what the fuck even is this place man. lmfao never again. read more

TLDR: coolest, littlest coffeehouse in San Antonio! My friend lived in San Antonio for a few years during her college life, and she told me that Philo Coffee was a staple. I can see why! I stopped in for a very late lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I got the chorizo kolache and it was very good (and I don't even like kolaches very much) and the corn chowder, which hit the spot (despite it being so hot outside). I finished with a macaron, which was great, but all of their sweets looked delicious and homemade. Two suggestions (which have nothing to do with the food) 1) use reusable (aka ceramic) dinnerware and cutlery. The soup was so tasty and it was slightly jarring to eat it with a plastic teaspoon. They seem to be going for a "cozy casual" vibe and heavy dishes would contribute to that. 2) add more seating and tables. There are two long, narrow tables. There was another party there, who took up one table, and me. If there had been one more party, I wouldn't have had a place to sit. Although I don't normally love armchairs in restaurants, it seems that this place would benefit from a cozy chair in the corner, where one could eat a piece of cake. The vibes are good inside with big windows that makes it feel bigger then it is. They also have outside seating which I will be taking advantage when it gets a little colder this year. I say this is a great place for a classic VIL (Vanilla Icd Latte). It's just on the outskirts of the trendy neighborhood which probably makes it even more trendy? Easy parking and just a very solid coffee shop. I would give it a 3.5 but will round up to 4 since there is not half point to give. Friendly and fast service. read more

Cute little coffee shop located down the street from San Antonio College. Offers a variety of coffee drinks and a limited food menu from toast bread to croissant sandwiches. Has a small indoor seating area and a nice size outdoor patio. Staff member at the time we visited was very friendly and patient with all the questions we had being our first time. We've been touring San Antonio coffee shops over the last year and we had high expectations based on yelp pictures alone. I guess we went at a peak time since there was no indoor seating left and too hot & humid to sit outdoors but the major turn off was people sitting at the counter eating full Whataburger meals at the front counter and a manicure taking place at one of the tables. Who does that in a coffee establishment??!! Very disappointing. read more

I had the egg, cheese and veggie croissant it was delicious!!! I also got the pumpkin spice latte and my bf got the white mocha. Ambiance is quiet, peaceful and quaint but a little modern. Not Great but not bad when I'm running late for class. They are conveniently located by San Antonio College. Service is pretty Slow, they seem to always have just one person making coffee & one in the kitchen. Not a big space... but surely there is a better work around. Yes! Smooth coffee and delicious veggie breakfast croissant for dinner. They make breakfast until the kitchen closes. Service was friendly and prompt. Very cozy and well decorated coffee shop that I happened upon because Scratch kitchen was closed. They have extended weekend hours (until 8p). A perfect meeting or solo chill spot. Philo Coffee is a great low-key neighborhood joint that offers coffee, light bites, pastries, beer and wine. It's such a cute spot!! I walked in and immediately dug the atmosphere. Looking around, there was so much community and connection going on. I did a little people watching and saw friends catching up over coffee, a first date, somebody getting onboarded for their new job, some people reading or working on their laptop. It was the type of friendly environment you want in a coffee shop and I enjoyed it. I was only in there a few minutes because I had to grab a coffee to go, but I'd love to go back and sit around a while with a good book or friend! I only got an iced latte with white chocolate syrup. It was divine! Nothing like that first sip of quality coffee. I'm glad I popped in and grabbed a coffee because I was headed to a Starbucks, but I much rather support a local coffee shop and I'm glad I found this hidden gem! Will be back! read more

I was in desperate need for caffeine and was recommended this place any the staff at Scratch Kitchen across the street. It was very cozy and hip/cool, and they had a wide assortment of options from coffee, to teas, to wine. I got a lavender matcha as that is my go-to for caffeine and it was perfect! I sometimes have trouble finding matcha that isn't powdery/properly frothed but they know what they're doing here. I was also very tempted by the sweet treats at the register so I got a lemon bar which was delicious, sweet, and not too tart. All in all I will be visiting this place again should I ever find myself in the neighborhood. 10/10! read more

Our Airbnb was just a five minute walk from this cute little coffee shop! We loved the food, drinks, and location. My favorite drink was the lavender latte and the veggie sandwich! It was topped with bean sprouts, real friend eggs, and avocado! Very fresh. The service was alright, not over the top friendly- but they get the work done. This was my first time visiting this coffee shop and I am wishing it was located where I live. I really really enjoyed being in this shop. It was incredibly beautiful inside and very relaxing. There are tons of windows and different types of seating. It was not super busy and it was easy to find a great place to read and write. Maybe I am jaded by living in Austin but it is usually impossible to find a place to sit in a coffee shop on a Sunday morning. Besides all that, the coffee was so good. I got and Iced oat milk latte with honey and cinnamon and I really enjoyed it. I love whatever oat milk they use. They also have a really decent food menu with lots of choices for breakfast and lunch. This little coffee shop was great. Centrally located kind of downtown area. I had a mimosa $7, and a croissant with egg cheese and ham. The place gets packed so you want to get in line fast. I hadn't been back to PhiloÇoffee in almost a year, and it still has the same exceptional service and beautiful lattes. I didn't feel rushed to place my order, as I had to get re-familiarized with the menu. I asked for a latte (with pretty colors) and an avocado toast. It's not often your latte matches your avocado toast. They made me the cutest toast with avocado, pickled onions (they were pink, so I assume pickled), sprouts, radishes, and an egg. Simple but super tasty. And the latte had a beautiful pink and green design on it! They use What's Brewing? coffee, so I already know it's a good cup. (and it was) But I think the thing that just overall solidified how amazing this place still is, is the owner came over and gave me a bowl of avocado, because she said the one they gave me was a little under ripe. She even seasoned it with a little salt and pepper. That small act shows how much they care about their customers and their experience here. Not bad, I came in just for coffee but I could see the studying here could be a bit difficult since it looks more of a catch up place. Nice and cozy but seems a bit stuffy for me. Almond croissant - a monster sized, flaky croissant with a generous almond filling. Guy Fieri highlighted this croissant on his DD&D show. It's probably a million calories not worth it! Tequila strawberry tres leches croissant - a small, cream filled croissant with strawberries. This was our least favorite. My husband didn't like the filling, I didn't like the sogginess of the croissant. Coffee - really good brewed coffee with free refills. We plan to go back a few more times while we're in town!!

It's a lot to choose from and without pictures it's difficult to tell what most of the items are. Especially for a first timer. So, I ordered what the gentleman in front of me had which was a plain croissant with butter. It looked better than it tasted. I chose not to use the butter because the croissant was cold so butter wouldn't take to it well. I also ordered a side of scrambled eggs with cheese and avocado. The eggs were delicious, cooked well and flavored nicely. But my avocados were oxidizing so the presentation wasn't appealing. My husband's breakfast scramble was filled with eggs. cheese, and turkey, but wasn't filled with flavor of any kind. It's a lively atmosphere. Great for large groups. There's seating outside so if you're feeling like sitting amongst pedestrians walking by, it's perfect. The service was slow. Really slow. I overheard they were backed up so by the time my macchiato was delivered I was almost done eating.

They were nice enough to warm the cookie for me, and it had that "fresh out of the oven" smell and gooeyness. They asked me if I wanted my drinks for here or to-go and I said for here and they still served me in to-go cups, which I thought was weird. The cortado was not my favorite. It was bitter and acidic and the foam was looking a little yeasty. The mocha latte also had very little flavor to it, tasting like hot milk. I had difficulty finishing both drinks. Later I noticed they were using What's Brewing beans, and it made sense. I know many folks love WB? coffee beans, as it's a bit of a local darling, but more often than not I don't enjoy cortados made with their beans. Dirty dishes and cutlery sat on a couple of tables long after folks had left. I don't want to make assumptions, because there WAS a designated staff member for cleaning/wiping things down, but maybe those two evaded her. There's a sign on the wall that says, "I'm not for everyone," and boy are they right. They also stopped playing one of my favorite Radiohead songs (right in the middle of it!) to play Teenage Dream by Katy Perry. Now while I'm not deducting stars for THAT (because that's just downright petty), I can't help but feel unimpressed by my most recent visit. At least the cookie was delicious. Perhaps a third visit is in order. As they say, third time's a charm, right?

They specialize in sweeter, calorically dense, caffeinated beverages, with their signature Moon Milk being a stand out and my usual go to. They offer varying levels of sweetness, so everyone has the opportunity to dial in the beverage to their liking. They offer all the traditional coffee house staples as well, but I haven't personally tried any of those and can't speak to their quality. Prices are comparable to other coffee chains in the area. Ambient noise level inside the cafe was low and would be a well suited location to get some work done or study, several patrons seemed to be doing so. They offer WiFi, and the Verizon 5G signal was very strong inside. This location is a part of the Tripoint complex, shared with the D.R. Semmes Family YMCA and Trinity Baptist Church. Definitely worth stopping by for your caffeine fix after a workout if you're already in the area, but probably not a location I would come to for just the coffee. Things worth knowing ahead of time: They offer a drive through in you're in a hurry or stopping by on your way to work. Their restrooms are located just outside of the cafe area and shared by the church they share the building with.

One last thing, they do have limited parking so keep that in mind when visiting. They are definitely no the best place for large groups, but if you just need a quite place to work or study on your own, I think they are perfect.
