Really good and fresh kava! Enjoyed my time here even if it was on the short side, but I could tell the groups of people laughing and sitting were having a fun time here - Miguel Morales Photography

This is Kihei's local Kava bar. It is my hangout. We love it. There's live music. They also have karaoke and there's Maui Fish Company fish truck right outside as well. walk up to the bar and order your drinks open seating.

Friends invited us to enjoy kava with them during their Sunday football time. Just in case you aren't quite sure where it is from the main road, Haleakava is tucked away in the middle of the Aloaa Open Market shops with parking in the back. I was first struck by the absolutely stunning decor. From the carved etching in the bowls to the stunning kava-sharing mural to the hand-dyed and designed Kapa tapestry on the wall, there was so much beauty to take in. Junior was serving and warmly welcomed us while we waited for our friends to join us. When they arrived, we enjoyed a half shell of the Tonga kava to start our gathering. Afterward, each of us tried a different beverage. I got the raspberry lemonade with green maeng da, a perfect drink to sip while we talked story. Later in the afternoon, we had another round of kava. I decided I would try the arnold kalmer. This was my favorite! It was so delicious, and I even got a jar to go. They do have some snacks available. My husband tried the "hulapeño" chips and really liked them. Junior really made our first experience to Haleakava a great one. We will definitely be back!

I'm a caseworker that works with fire survivors and drink the traditional kava to relax my body and mind allowing me to slow down and heal. The kava is high quality and always freshly extracted same-day. Hold it under your tongue for a minute or two for a quicker and more potent effect. When I do this, I can feel my body pain melting away. The owner has been making kava his entire life and takes his practice very seriously which I respect. If the environment is too overstimulating, ask for your drink/bowl to-go. They are very kind and understanding about this

Always the best spot to cruise in Maui. Been going there since the early days and always great drinks, staff and live music.

Cool spot to relax and chill for a spell. Service was helpful with the enormous amount of questions we had, and gave a little history lessons behind the origins of Kava. We each had the traditional, along with a few kratom teas. A few of us also had the dirty versions. I'd say we definitely felt a bit more relaxed after the fact. We had seen people grabbing large jars to go. I feel like this would've been great as a bring along for a good beach day. We'll probably pop in again to grab a jar to bring with us next time we're in the area.

Found this little gem while waiting for our order from a food truck next door. Didnt know what kava is and the lady at the bar gave us some info . We got curious and wanted to try ,so we got the lilikoi kava. The drink was absolutely refreshing. We had a long mid day nap(Not sure if it because of the kava or the hot and tiring whale watching trip) The place has a nice zen vibe. Worth trying.

Our first time trying kava, Krystal was SUPER helpful. She recommended that we do tonga, since it was our first time. We got the mango strawberry, strawberry passion, and calamansi, as well as three full shells (that don't have flavor and are being split between two people). If it's your first time, I personally would recommend not getting the fruit juice. We did not feel the kava at all (or if we did, it was not distinct enough of a feeling for us to feel) but the taste was nice and sweet. The regular shells of tonga had a very herbal, bitter taste and was a bit harder to get down, but taking it with some orange juice or other drink on the side made it better. The people who got the regular shells had a much more distinct feeling of getting the body high.

Kava fix on my way to the airport!

We went there after arriving in Maui. Best place on the island to enjoy kava and kratom.

The cashier was really friendly, and once you order, they actually come find you to hand you your order, which was a really nice touch. The açaí itself was really good. The portion is big and comes in a cute jar. The açaí was thick and smooth, not overly sweet, and the fruit was fresh. It felt super refreshing after a long morning, and the whole place just has a great, chill vibe. Definitely a nice stop if you are in the area and want something light but filling. I was already doing the math and thinking , "Eh, we might be here awhile." But nah, good timing. People were finishing up, bussing tables, and bam, maybe 20-30 minutes tops. Not bad at all. While we was waiting, they come out with waffle samples for everyone in line. I mean... who does that? That's how you keep people from getting all hangry. Instant good vibes, the whole line outside was just smiling and waiting patiently. Finally get seated and both the hostess and waitress were super nice--real friendly, no rush, no attitude. In the front they had mushroom soup on the specials board, so we figured we go sample um. I had them bring a cup of soup out to start along with my wife's coffee. Gotta be honest--when I dipped my spoon in, I was already judging. Looked kinda thin, not creamy like other mushroom soups I've had. I was thinking, "Ahh here we go." Took one spoonful and immediately had to humble myself. That soup was money. Like, stop-talking-and-just-eat. My wife tried it and confirmed that this soup was "winnahs" . Deep mushroom flavor with the right amount of seasoning. It also came with a little piece of focaccia toast which I would have really enjoyed but had to take my wife's word for it since she ate um all . Should've ordered the bowl. Rookie mistake. For my main, I went with the original eggs Benedict. Portions were a little on the small side, but with the roasted potatoes, I was good. Didn't leave hungry, didn't need to loosen the belt--perfect middle ground. My wife got the strawberry waffles and yeah... those were legit. She's not a syrup person, so she asked for more whipped cream. The waitress comes back with a little mountain of whipped cream in the little silver ramekin. All in all, solid spot. Friendly people, ono food, and little touches that make you feel taken care of. We will be heading to Cafe Kaila again to try some other stuff like the "chicken and waffles", and next time, I'm not playing around with the soup. Bowl, Garans.

There was a lot of mahi on the menu! Their liquor selection was more limited than I'd think - so I skipped a cocktail. I got the Mac crusted mahi - sadly it was flavorless and the sauce was cold.
