I never leave reviews like this but my wife took our car in to get a safety inspection and it was the worst customer experience of her life. We were skeptical of other reviews who said similar things and we always try to support local when we can, so figured we'd give him a chance. The owner was unbelievably rude and condescending and made her feel like an idiot for having legitimate questions. Don't know why someone would treat other people that way. Manny is the best. He's been working on my Dad and moms cars for decades, even before he opened up this shop. Through out the years he has always beed there for them especially when they got older and had trouble remembering things. Especially renewals. For that I will always be grateful. Maybe its a country thing but people here are much closer than city people. On top of the customer service he has always diagnosed the problems with the cars and repaired them accordingly. Repairing exactly what was needed and not trying to make them pay for stuff they didnt need. I wish more mechanics where like him where I currently live . read more

I called to inquire about making a safety check appt and was yelled and spoke to like I was an absolute idiot about the certain docs needed. The old man didn't understand that my car was new and hadn't ever been registered yet so he was going in circles about things irrelevant to my inquiry. After like 5 min of being spoken to like trash and being scolded for idk what, I finally said as "I said before this is what I need"..... and the guy hung up on me as if I was the one being rude and out of line! Rude guy. He seems like he doesn't like his job. He's convenient cause I live less than 5 mins from his shop and I used to go there for safety checks but now I rather drive to Wahiawa or Waipio Tony Honda. More friendly braddahs there and they check everything real good. Took 30 min and payed $25 and was out of there with friendly smiles. Manny was rude to me every time. I tried to show him my insurance on my phone and he said I had to email it to him which is fine. But he rolled his eyes and everything and seemed grouchy every time I went there. read more

I needed to get my car safety checked. I called Haleiwa Service. The information on the answering machine was clear and easy to follow. I showed up on Monday within the time frame given. The gentleman brought my vehicle into the garage and I was able to get a safety check without waiting in a long line. Absolutely clean and simple. Paid with a card and was on my way. With a limited amount of Safety inspection options on the North Shore I was interested in finding out whether or not Haleiwa Service was a viable option. I called to check availability and was told that I needed an appointment and that the next day had options, I said I couldn't make it but how was the following day?, he said "I have openings after 10" I said ok can I just show up after 10? They said "yeah, you gonna have to wait, if you don't make an appointment". I didn't understand what he meant and he sounded quite irritated and didn't seem to want to take my appointment request. I ended the call rather abruptly by saying "ok I'll see you after 10?" When I showed up the owner/mechanic was working on a single car with no customers in sight. He seemed confused as to why I was there. He ignored my presence for a minute then went in the office and asked for my paperwork. I tried to show him my insurance off my phone app and he said I needed to email it. He stared at his computer and got up and told me he gets paid for his time and to come back in 2 hours. "No thanks I'll just drive to Wahiawa Automotive" where I was in and out in less than 20 minutes. Bad customer service is a non starter and this dude made me feel unwelcome. read more

If you want you want your car fixed or need a safety check, this place is a hidden gem! Haleiwa Service will accommodate in between wrenching cars. The pricing is fair and the turnover is quick. If I want to chit chat and have warm bubbly feels- I'd go to a bar. I have found that people that are in a diagnostic field are more concerned with how to solve it than how you feel about it. He may not smile, but my car works and that makes me smile. read more

My husband and I recently moved to Waialua and took both of our trucks to get safety inspections at Haleiwa Service. First of all, terrible location and hard to find. The one gentleman that works there is rude, negative and acts like he hates his job. His attitude was poor and he always had something negative to say. We returned after registering to get our safety sticker and he yelled at us because we showed up before 3pm even though he's open from 9-5. We will not be returning and I highly recommend that anyone that needs a safety on their vehicle or any car service for that matter not go here. Drive further and go somewhere else. read more

If you're like me, you care more about a mechanic being capable, fast and honest more than bubbly and enthusiastic. That's Haleiwa Service to a tee. I came across this place when I needed an oil change and safety check and didn't want to travel too far. This is the epitome of a local shop. I called these guys and they told me to come in the next morning. First off, it's pretty impossible to find unless you know your way around the Sugar Mill. It's on the backside of the building housing the Waialua Coffee Factory, but you have to go around the north side via a dirt road and then cut in. There's a makeshift office at the back of the garage that you can't see. When I announced myself, the mechanic kinda grunted and pointed to a door. The guy in the office was obviously the owner. I reminded him what I was there for, dropped off the keys and he called me a couple hours later to tell me it was done. $75 later, I had a car with an oil change and safety check. When I asked, he told me everything with the jeep looked fine. Maybe that's why I innately trust of this place. If I'd gone to Midas, I would have received two phone calls about needing a new air filter and radiator fluid and whatever else. They would have tried to sell me new windshield wipers and a tune-up, even if I didn't need them. Not a friendly guy. Difficult to get an appointment because he does not answer his phone. The first time I went for a safety check on my Jeep the third brake light was out. He let me borrow a screw driver and had a bulb on hand I gave him five bucks for. Second time I went to bring a car for a check he was equally unfriendly. I had failed and needed to come back this time and he said I did not need an appointment... When I came back I was a little too early and he rudely turned me away (as if I was hassling him to do the job I paid him for) and told me to come back between 3:00 and 4:30, which I did. If you're going to greet the guy with a smile, don't expect one back. I would not pay him for anything more than a safety check. read more

Don't judge the environment. It looked like a junkyard at first but they have a place inside where you can park your car inside for the inspection. No appointment was done because they just opened, so first come first serve. Best time to come would be a Monday at around 11AM. The service was good. Very nice staff. The mechanic was late though but then it was fine. The inspection was thorough yet fast. The mechanic doesn't talk much but he does his job well. When you ask questions that's when he talks. His assistant was the one who was very friendly and would entertain the clients. Would definitely come back here for my next inspection. read more

Haleiwa Service is a hidden gem. It is hard to find, hidden behind the old sugar mill in Waialua. But if you do its well worth it. Calvin is the owner and I use him everytime I need a safety check on our two vehicles. On most occasions I can get an appt same day if I call early enough. Calvin isnt up for the idol chit chat but does complete your safety check quickly, and efficiently to get you back on the road. read more

I have been coming here for 6 years and recommending this place to everyone that needs work done on the car but now since this place has changed management it is now HORRIBLE and I will never go back and I will tell everyone I know never to either. The guy I spoke with is very rude and condescending. He made it seem that my business was inconveniencing him and he was some big shot mechanic that I should praise. Literally the worst mechanic I have ever dealt with. It sucks because this was my favorite place to go when the old guy worked there and ran it. Haleiwa Service was in business and highly respected long before I moved to the Northshore Oahu in 1982. Owner Calvin has always been very honest, reliable, trustworthy and provided timely expert service. Calvin is NOT a grump ... he just has a personality that's quiet, no nonsense given nor taken, and expert, albeit a bit "stoic" (on the surface) with no sugar coating needed nor desired; A personality / attitude not uncommon to old-school locals. He is a very good man. Highly recommended, unless you are seeking to have your ego stroked! read more
