This place is a dump, DO NOT STAY HERE! Cabins on the river are at least 20 years old, the mattresses are Just as old and need to be replaced. You could hardly open the sliding doors because they were so rotted. This place needs a complete renovation. I can't believe that anyone would ever go back and stay again. DO NOT give them a dime of your hard earned money!!! I would give 0 stars if possible. Don't book a reservation. The website is outdated- the place is beyond horrible! Grass wasn't cut- it was up to my waist! You can't get to the water from the campground, sewer hook up was broken - we were told that we needed to get an attachment and if it spilled "don't worry about it". Several large dogs off leash just roaming, we couldn't get our dogs out. Someone looked like they had passed out on the picnic table bench. In our 5 minutes, we witnessed a domestic argument. This place is a cesspool dump! Website is deceiving and we were lied to when we booked. We asked if our dogs could wade in the edge of the river and we were told "yes" at the time of our booking. The water is so mucky and the banks so overgrown, we couldn't get near the water. The owner refused to refund any money, even though what his place offered was nothing compared to the website. We even offered to pay for the one night - we had booked 4 nights. So, he stole over $300 from us. We left and at 5:30 at night, we had to scramble and find somewhere else on a holiday weekend! DON'T GO HERE!!! If I could give Hales zero stars I would. This "business" is owned and staffed by incompetent, rude, uncaring and overall terrible people. My crew 6 adults and 1 child rented a double decker pontoon with 2 slides on June 19, 2024. The whole experience was miserable and one of the slides was unusable which was the least of our problems. I could write the whole story but it would take pages. Bottom line, our boat had a gas leak and Hales left us stranded on the boat for over 5 hours (around 9 hours total on the boat.) They were completely rude and disrespectful and we had to call 911 at one point to get help. All I wanted was a refund of the $665 I spent on the boat but Hales refuses. Weirdly, they claim the boat was working fine even after they filled our gas tank and it was empty 5 minutes later. These people are straight up trash and not to mention the safety violations. Please go anywhere but here. They should be shut down before someone gets seriously hurt. read more

It's all about perspective. Though, I can say the two things I disliked about the entire experience was not having A/C in the bedroom towards nighttime with it being 80° + and there's spiders all over the front porch area where one would like to read a book or drink some tea in peace. Not having to worry about spiders forming a web near you. I enjoyed my time. I enjoyed feeling like I was being rocked to sleep by the river waves. I enjoyed the view of the mountains. I enjoyed being in peace in nature and I enjoyed the goats being on the property. Returned home yesterday from Memorial Weekend Girl's Trip. We rented a 1 bedroom floating cabin. Little on the rustic side but what I pretty much expected for a "campground". Loved the goats I think they may be missing their evening head scratching. LOL Staff was helpful and Mason went above and beyond any time we needed anything. WIFI was iffy and TV didn't want to upload due to that but turned out to be positive because it gave us chance to communicate with each other and just chill, relax and reflect. Beware when making reservations for either their cabins or boats. They do not give refunds even if you had to have emergency surgery! We were able to talk them into letting us change our reservations to 90 days after the surgery, but it wasn't easy. The cabins are very run down. The air conditioning in our cabin did not work and the back bedroom was too hot to sleep in. The first shower that was taken there was grey greasy water coming up from the drain. It took over 2 hours to drain. We told them and they said they would look into it. No one else in our party even tried to shower. You cannot swim off the floating cabins because of "live electrical wires" (their words, not mine). I wouldn't stay there again. read more

Upon entering our unit, on the outside there were cobwebs and dirt on the sliding glass door. After opening the door, the floor boards and track of the door is black, filled with dirt and dust. In the first bedroom, there are scratches, holes, and paint chips on every wall. Next to the light switch, there are dirty fingerprints on the wall. The vent is covered in dust and the ceiling is speckled with red stuff. The ceiling fan in the closet is also filthy and covered in dust. Not the best quality of air that is being circulated. The bathroom was clean and working. However, the shower curtain is dirty and moldy. The vent is rusted and also dirty. The kitchen has grease marks on the wall. Clearly the wall has not been wiped clean. The blinds in the kitchen are covered in dust and surrounded by dead flies. The view is amazing and the floating cabins could be amazing with a little effort, but I am not sure the owners or staff are invested in the success of this location. Negatives; 1. Smell, there is something wrong with the septic set up for the floating cabins. We camp and have used campers with septic tanks that have to be emptied but the whole cabin smells of horrible septic gas... we even used air freshener with no help. 2. No real heat, I get that we visited off season but one small space heater does not heat a cabin of this size. There is a central heat system that does not work. We went to Lowe's and purchased additional heater and the place got comfortable. It could have been helpful if the heat wasn't set to off, even though we requested a late check in and pre paid the staff could have at least turned the heaters on being in was in the low 30's. Also the window air conditioning units let in a large amount of cold air. 3. Off season, no on-site restaurant, no available delivery and no bait in the store. The toaster oven in the cabin was barley operational and was missing the power button. All items that could be added to their website to help off season guests be prepared. 4. Their cancellation and early checkout policy. Guest beware they will not refund you even if their equipment is not operational. This is not a fair business practice to me, since it's apparent they are not big on maintenance of the units. 5. Not a clear path to floating cabins. Gas pump with a door that is open and flapping in the wind makes it hard to get pass during windy weather. read more

Can't speak for the cabin or campground facilities since we only rented a boat, but we will definitely be back! I really appreciated that they have the option of renting a deck boat, which is much more fun to drive and more fuel efficient at top speed than your basic pontoon. And the best part -- the boats are pet friendly (as long as you clean up any messes). Other marinas I've visited have rules against animals on your rental. The Starcraft deck boat we rented was pretty worn and none of the electronics or speakers worked. But fortunately the staff said the boats are being replaced for the 2021 season. Only the complaint was the difficulty of getting someone on the phone before we drove down for the day. Phone rings off the hook and they don't have a proper call waiting system so you have to keep trying until someone answers. read more

Pay attention to these poor ratings. The only reason they get a 2 is because the cabin we stayed in was acceptable for the price. We went in June, and the pool was nasty. The paint was peeling off the side. So there were little paint particles floating all around. We skimmed other debris out on our own. The customer no service people at the office reiterated several times that it is not a 5 star resort. I replied that I'm not a 5 star customer, but I expect the pool to be clean. Toward the end of our last conversation she lied and said the health department has passed it "just this morning ". Horrible experience with renting a pontoon boat. The boat wouldn't go more than 12 mph and didn't run well. We took it back in after a short ride to let them know and was told "the engine is too big for the boat." Um what?? Was pretty much told that's your boat and what you get. Was told to "ease" into it and it would eventually smooth out and go faster. This was definitely not the case. Several people on the boat have boats and we know how to drive one and how it should run. The lady helping us wasn't helpful and the slow boat made the experience not as enjoyable, especially for $580!! read more

It's a pretty decent cabin. It's nice that you can tie up your boat and walk into your cabin. There is no oven but, there is charcoal grill outside. Stove in 3 bedroom cabin was subpar. Did not provide enough heat. Cabin can shake a bit so carry your travel sickness pills just in case. Overall it's a nice place read more

This review is for the campground. We stayed there over Memorial weekend. The location is nice,m and we were upgraded to a waterfront spot which we greatly appreciated. Pros are the marina and the view. Cons are the bathrooms, I wouldn't even call them operable. My husband went to use three men's shower and feces were pouring out of the toilet and they put a sign up that said "slippery". They have another bathroom that is up front by the marina with a shower, when we walked in the smell of urine hit us and it was strong. The next day we used the shower and it smelled like horrible cigarette smoke, so I guess someone was smoking in there before us? When I called to ask questions before we arrived no one would ever answer the phone. When we arrived we found out they don't rent out kayaks anymore, they only have the paddle boats (that you peddle with your feet). Overall I just felt like this place was a bit of a letdown. I heard from staff that they're investing in mew bathrooms/bathroom upgrades, a distillery in the old building, and several other major plans. Best place going for it is the views. read more

Only gave it three stars because of the staff helping us out with issues we had. This was supposed to be a relaxing weekend away but started out awful! We got to the cabin really late due to us living so far away and the key to our land cabin was in the box at the office. It was around 32degrees outside when we got there and extremely windy....when we went into the cabin the outside looked ok in the dark of course. But when we went inside it smelled like a wet dog ugh just what I wanted to smell while trying g to relax. The cabin was extremely dirty, smelly and oh yes I forgot to mention NO freaking heat! Ain't this great in the freezing cold. We got up next morning staff at office gave us another key to go look at different cabin the view wasn't the best at it but at least heat worked and it was clean. Please see pics below of first cabin and second as well. The only issues with second cabin was that it took an act of Congress to get into it with key cause it was rigged up and that the bedroom light DID not work we told staff right away but of course the whole time we was there we had to use a flashlight to see???! Saw a blurb about these in Southern Living and thought this might be fun for a weekend get-away. Wrong! The cabin we stayed in was probably really cute when it was first built, but it is in serious disrepair now. Refrigerator is rusty, electric fireplace was nonfunctional and cabin was heated by old space heaters, water faucets are tricky, and toilet stopped flushing our second evening. The office number went to voicemail and the emergency number is no longer in service. The public marina bathrooms were locked so we ended up driving to a truck stop down the road at 11:00 p.m. Management was unapologetic and refused any partial refunds. We have had some of the same issues other people had. We were there in November 2020. The cabin did have a bad sewage smell- I believe it was mostly in the bathroom and was better when the door was closed. I don't remember it bothering us too much. Yes the cabin moves around a lot....it's floating. lol. The store and restaurant were closed and I was not notified about that when booking. So we had to go down the road to get food. I do remember it being a little run down. But overall we had a really nice time. There were great views from the dock and our own private deck. read more

I have stayed at Hales Bar Marina every year since 2017 in conjunction with competing in the international paddling competition the end of October. I reserved one night for the end of this month, as I always have for my stay, TWO YEARS AGO! On my way back down to Florida from vacationing in west Tennessee a few weeks ago, I drove an hour out of my way to stop and confirm my reservation in person. I was assured all as well for my one night stay. TODAY I was informed that the policy is now a minimum two-night stay due to high demand during the paddling competition. Family had already booked flights to join me. We will not participate in such predatory business practices. The floating cabins were decent however we had a lot of issues.. we went with a group and rented four of the houses. One of the cabins has horrible gaps in the floors. Our cabin didn't have stove tops and half of the lights were blown. My sisters cabin literally tried to float away twice and we had to attach it to another cabin in the middle of the night and couldn't find anyone to help us. The water around the cabins is absolutely filthy. The sewer pump was out and none of the showers or toilets would drain. We rented a boat which was decent except they told us we would be provided with life jackets and we were out on the lake all day without a single life jacket because we came from out of town and they told us we would have them and they didn't. Also, We had kids that were really looking forward to swimming in the pool and it was absolutely disgusting and wasn't even open. The walk to the cabins is bad when you have stuff to take because there are gas pumps right in the middle of the walk to them and there is hardly any lights one the pier. They say they have WiFi but just expect to be stranded with no sort of service for emergencies because the WiFi doesn't work and there is 0 service. For the price we paid, we should have had a better experience. Overall I'd just say find another place to stay. We wish we had. read more

If I could give this place a negative 5 stars I would! A couple days ago my wife and I pulled in for a quick overnight stay. I was sitting in my truck next to my camper at the rv park when I saw a pit bull walking around with a collar on. The owners were away for a bit and she had gotten out of the rv. She was young and not aggressive towards anyone, so I (along with a few other campers) tried to call her to get her back home. She ran away from us but proceeded to her rv and laid under it for some shade. We gave her water and thought the owners would be back soon enough to get her. The RV park manager said there wasn't a humane society to call so she called 911. I was waiting in my truck for the cops so I could talk to them, but when the cop pulled up, I didn't even have time to open my door. He called the dog over and she obeyed. She wasn't aggressive she just got up from under her rv and walked towards him where he proceeded to shoot her 3 times...dead. I was in shock. The horror!! The poor family showed up not long after to discover their family pet dead. The parents and three small children were devastated. We up and left as soon as the sun came up the next morning. Traumatized isn't the word for our experience here... read more

If you're looking for a nice place to stay, don't even bother. Maintenance is completely ignored. The " floating cabins " are just that, they just float around, banging the dock constantly. A call to the "office " will get you the same results as calling the local bar. Cleaning is something they only talk about, there was a big stinky dead fish floating at our door, I can only assume that they don't care. The central air conditioning didn't work, so they replaced it with a small window unit in the living room, so that means the bedroom had nothing. All in all, for what they charge, they should be ashamed. Don't even bother to rent a boat from them, I did. You have to pay in advance, when you get the boat it was something you see in a junkyard. The bow had a hole in it, the seats were filthy, there was an alarm on, they told us to just ignore, it was nothing. I asked for another boat, this was what they had, take it or leave it. I told them I was leaving it and wanted a refund. They promptly told me NO REFUNDS. I asked to talk to the owner, they would not tell me his/her name or phone number. I asked for them to have him/her to call me, they assured me that I would receive a call that afternoon. Never heard anything. I have to believe that either they never passed on my request, or the owner simply doesn't care. I tried to dispute the charge on my card but they have an airtight rental agreement, I had to fill out the paperwork before I left the office BIG MISTAKE,MY BAD. That mistake cost me $273.00. I did track down the owner, sent him an email, never responded. I guess he really doesn't care! That is reflected in the the two women in the office, they are rude and arrogant, they know they will win. read more
