Review 53/365 Day Challenge Got detoured from El Monte & realized i was Passing thru Colima Road on my way home. You know what came to mind! Half & Half tea house! It brings mee back to Nostalgic era when mee n my hubs were just new parents to our now going on 17 years old (next month). This was one of the boba spots i craved on late nights boba run during my nursing days. What i ordered ~ Iced Milk Drink w pudding & honey boba $ 7.08. The drink was good and refreshing. Since it had honey boba. It is on the sweeter side. Make sure to stir, shake b4 you take a sip. ~ Brown Sugar Milk Tea w pudding & Honey boba was a really disappointing. Couldn't taste the Brown sugar flavor what so ever along the milk tea taste. It tasted like it was water down and i asked for easy ice too. It was so bland! I got it for my son n he didn't even want to drink it. I attached a photo of his drink 2 hours later barely touched. I had to try it myself and definitely, wasn't at all tasting like black milk tea base at all. Why i had to give it 2 stars. I will update my review once I returned. - honey boba is yummy n chewy. Really on the sweeter side. I mean that's why it's called honey boba and they serve their boba warm. FYI -$ .98 for super Cup up charge Service was good and decently amount of wait time. I recall 10 years ago there use to be huge long lines/wait for Half & Half. The location has an old Taiwanese vibe with wooden walls and decor of a traditional boba shop. They had vinyl cover on the bathroom walls. It's clean and well taken care of. So glad it's still here this Colima location. Not sure if the other location is still open. Located next to An Acai bowl shop in between Phoenix restaurant. Parking is a bit smaller.

Half & Half is open on New Years. This location is word...the back entrance still boarded with wood and had never replaced with glass door. If you're extra thirsty, then this is the place for you. The standard is big but Half& Half is known on the Big Cup--it's huge and totally worth it. The real danger (in the best way) is the upgrades. There's no shrinkflation here! The drink selection is huge, too. Once you start adding toppings, foam, extra shots, or sweetness tweaks, it turns into a full-on custom drink experience. If you want small bites they offer them here - instant noodles, fried chicken nuggets and pancakes. :) We got the strawberry milk tea (ehhh), the Thai iced tea (yummy) and my personal favorite Herbal Green Tea with grass-jelly! Each store location has their quirky "old school decors". This location has a Japanese toy vending machines. Cute!

Amazing experience every time we come here! Kelly was so patient while we ordered. The vibe was calm and welcoming. This is our Go To spot everytime!

Overall: Always a solid boba spot for me! I go for the almond milk tea with vanilla latte and boba. It was nice because they also do a free upgrade during the week! Service: Quick and efficient. Drinks came out in a timely manner! Ambiance: Small, I do wish they had some more seating options but it's meant to be more of a grab and go spot.

I have a love/hate relationship with Half & Half. My go-to drink is their Red Bean Milk Tea (regular everything / extra Red Bean blended in) - it truly is my biggest obsession. What I don't love is the weight gain that comes with it. They only have two sizes - Regular or Super, but their "Reg" size is bigger than XL sizes at other boba places. There's ALWAYS a wait at this Half & Half compared to the Arcadia location, but the lobby is bigger in RH vs. you'll have to wait outside in Arcadia. Staff are always friendly. Def a consistent 8/10.

Unfortunately, I left disappointed. One positive is the overall aesthetic. I like the layout and the lighting design, and the globe fixtures give the shop a nice modern look. Unfortunately, when you look closer, the fixtures have visible dust and grime buildup. Some of them are high up, so I understand they aren't easy to clean, but this is where an occasional ladder or professional deep cleaning comes in. The shop has good design bones; it just needs more attention to cleaning and maintenance. The music itself is trendy and current, but it is much too loud for a work-friendly coffee shop, especially because the space is very echoey. I'm including a screenshot of the sound level along with a short video so people can get a sense of it for themselves. I found it basically impossible to concentrate without earplugs or noise-canceling headphones. Seating is also limited and isn't very comfortable. It's mostly hard wooden benches and plastic or metal folding-style chairs. Nothing egregious, but not especially comfortable if you're planning to sit and work for a while. What really started the experience off badly for me was my drink. I ordered an iced matcha for $6.75 and asked if they could do less ice. I was told that if I wanted less ice, the drink would be less full. I said never mind and asked for it to just be filled normally. When I received it, though, my matcha still had noticeably less liquid than my husband's drink. Since they only offer one size for each iced drink, the difference was pretty obvious. We also tipped $1. The matcha itself was just your standard iced matcha -- nothing special -- and definitely didn't feel worth $6.75 to me. My husband's $8 Butterscotch Cream Latte actually tasted good, but after he finished it, we were surprised by how much of the cup was taken up by ice. The photo speaks for itself. Given that I had already been told that requesting less ice would result in a less-full drink, this really diminished the value for me. The bathroom was another big negative. I tend to judge the cleanliness of a business by its restroom, and this one did not give me confidence. The bathroom door and several surrounding surfaces looked like they had not been thoroughly wiped down in quite a while, with visible grime and buildup, and there were also holes in the wall. Even the glass entrance doors had visible smudges and residue. I'm including photos because these things were noticeable and contributed to an overall poorly maintained impression. There were no paper towels available. Instead, an old-looking handwritten sign was taped over the dispenser saying, "Please use the air dryer. Thank you!" I personally avoid hand dryers because of hygiene concerns, so after washing my hands I ended up using toilet paper and a toilet-seat cover so I could open the bathroom door without touching the handle directly. At that point, they might as well remove the paper towel dispenser entirely. Leaving an unused dispenser covered by an aged paper sign just looks lazy and poorly maintained to me, especially in a customer-facing bathroom. Aesthetically, I also wasn't a fan of all the taped-up paper signs. The front entrance has a large paper sign taped directly to the glass saying "PLEASE CLOSE THE DOOR GENTLY. THANK YOU!!!" along with several other smaller notices, and the bathroom has the aged handwritten sign taped over the unused paper towel dispenser. These are small details individually, but together with the visible grime, holes, and neglected surfaces, they made the shop feel more makeshift and poorly maintained than the otherwise nice design deserves. It clearly seems to be a popular spot, and my husband had far fewer complaints and enjoyed his latte. I also think the overall layout and lighting aesthetic have potential. For me, though, the underfilled matcha, ice-heavy drinks, standard-at-best matcha, loud music, limited seating, uncomfortable chairs, and overall cleanliness and maintenance made this a disappointing first visit.

Even the sweetness level they recommend didn't taste right anymore, which is frustrating when you've already dialed in your order. I also tried the osmanthus lemon iced tea and it came out bitter. Not a subtle bitterness either. That one I wouldn't order again. I don't think the recipe changed so much as the consistency slipped. There were so many options to choose from and they all looked so good! They have fruit teas and frappes too! I decided on the Coco Cotti (recommended by the employee) and the Cloud Mousse Blue Coco Latte (both hot). The Blue Coco Latte was delicious and tasty, I really liked the mousse foam on top. The employee said the blue color of the latte comes from the sugar they use. Unfortunately the Coco Cotti was disappointing. All I could taste was a faint hint of the coconut milk, barely any coffee flavor. I already suspected that the drink would be milked down when I opened the lid and saw how pale the drink was.
