Just a few minutes from the coast, it's the kind of place that makes you slow down the moment you walk in. I went with a very sensible gardening mission: buy lavender plants to attract pollinators for my Meyer lemon and Bearss lime trees. Very practical. Very responsible. Nothing could possibly go wrong. Then I opened the door. The scent of fresh lavender was incredible. Not the artificial fragrance from candles or room sprays, but the real thing. The entire greenhouse smelled like a spa, and my quick errand immediately became a leisurely wander. The shop is beautiful, with healthy plants, gorgeous pottery, garden décor, lavender bath and body products, gifts, and more lavender varieties than I knew existed. I found myself comparing Provence, Phenomenal, Hidcote, French, Spanish, BeeZee Pink, and Burgundy like I was preparing for a horticulture exam. I eventually came home with two gorgeous plants, Provence and Phenomenal. Were they more expensive than the ones I could have picked up at Home Depot? Absolutely. Were they also fuller, healthier, and some of the most beautiful lavender plants I had seen? Also absolutely. The staff stayed quietly in the background, which worked perfectly for me because I didn't need help and could take my time looking around without feeling hovered over. I left with two beautiful lavender plants, a very happy new gardener's heart, and one clear expectation: The bees had better show up now.

I am partial to their garden decor, especially the adorable animal sculptures. I'm a shopper who loves a deal, so I was pleasantly surprised to see some lavender plants on sale outside of the store! No, I didn't purchase any because I have at least 8 lavender plants of my own at home, but someone will surely take advantage of the deal! I will definitely return when I'm back in Half Moon Bay!

The area is beautiful with stunning views, easy parking, and great signage. Each store has a building with clear signs, cash register counters. We were welcomed and invited into the stores that were open during our visit. My favorite area was the succulents, as a succulent collector I obviously was drawn here. I'd like to make special note of the love and care for the plants. Often times when purchasing plants they are not thriving, they are hanging on for dear life or are semi healthy. All plants in all shops were EXTREMELY healthy! The humidity was ever so present in the store with the house plants, the dryness was very present in the area with the succulents, the lighting was good and the plants were lush, not stretchy, and were properly placed for sunning. I did not pay attention in the other stores but did notice that the succulent store also listed their plants as toxic if there was toxins in them harmful to children or pets!

We were able to secure a parking space in the last row, thankfully. Already Pastorino's was bustling with families and young children, eager to partake in the many activities like the train ride, big slide or was it a bouncy house?, hayride, etc. We were grateful for the no-admission fee, but you do pay for the rides, food, etc. Since we didn't ride anything, I have no idea of their cost. My friend and I took advantage of the many photo ops around the property. There is a delightful gift shop that even carried the coveted Labubus, amidst all of their Halloween inspired gifts. Pastorino's is beautifully and whimsically decorated for Halloween. I'm sure you'll find it charming, even if you're without children.

I actually have a 3 ft tall rooster that was given to me as a joke about 12 yrs ago...I'm sure you can imagine "Cheryl has a BIG....er...keeping this G-rated....(word without the -a-doodle-do!) in the garden!" Um... yeahhh...Hey, I actually like my metal art and it's definitely a funny conversation piece...since then I've received smaller ones but not quite the same design as the one at Sun Studios. So when I called to inquire (Friday, 1/13/22, 130pm), I was given a price but when I arrived there today it was actually much more...a little disappointed with the person who told me otherwise...poo! The owner was kind enough to offer 10% off but will have to think about this one. Overall, Sun Studios is wonderful if you're looking for fountains, bird baths, metal art (dragons, goats and large crows!), concrete sculptures, planters and variety of decorative Mexican Talavera pottery to beautify your outdoor space. A fun place to peruse and potentially take something home

He threw his cap at the floor, walked away from us at the register, and tried ignoring us to make us go away while there were others in line. I asked him not to raise his voice at us too. This was after he had charged us more than what was stated on the price tag of the bouquet. We paid it since wanted that bouquet in particular. This exchange overall felt very disrespectful. We had bought 10 peonies here for $67 dollars. The peonies here are $30 a bunch (5 pc). This is quite overpriced, as they are resold from another vendor. The quality of the flowers was also not great. One bunch of peonies had mold growing on it, meaning it had been there for awhile. We have bought fresher peonies at Whole Foods before. I don't recommend -- buying flowers here ruined my day, and that's the opposite point of buying flowers.

Update (6 months later): Happily upgrading this to 5 stars!…read more One of the best parts of Yelp is getting to update a review when a business earns it, and Bay Area Orchids absolutely did. The orchid I bought here back in January is still blooming beautifully in July, and it's gorgeous. That alone speaks volumes. These orchids are clearly loved, expertly grown, and exceptionally well cared for. This visit was such a joy. Jesus was welcoming, patient, and happy to answer all of my orchid questions. And then there was Lulu, the adorable Yorkiepoo, who may have been just as responsible for my purchases. Bay Area Orchids has been a family-owned business for more than 25 years, and you can feel that passion throughout the nursery. I walked in planning to buy one orchid and somehow left with three: a gorgeous golden Phalaenopsis with multiple flower spikes, a vibrant magenta beauty, and a petite coral Phalaenopsis that completely stole my heart. My kitchen windowsill has officially become an orchid gallery! If you're heading to Half Moon Bay State Beach, this is an easy stop along the way, and they're open until 6 PM. Whether you're buying your first orchid or adding to a collection, this place is well worth a visit. Fair warning: you'll probably leave with more orchids than you planned. I certainly did!
