My sister-in-law brought my mother-in-law here. In turn my mother-in-law brought my wife and I here and we're returning this Saturday evening. I get the feeling that it's that kind of word of mouth place. The patio area is comfortable and cozy. It was a hot day when we were there but a beautiful breeze kept the temperature down. We each had a Margarita to start, they split calamari which they enjoyed. I ordered beef stew. I love beef stew and yes I realized it's June and would agree beef stew is a winter dish but I hadn't had it in so long that day it was an anytime dish. It was tasty but more like a beef soup than a stew. Stew is thick and hardy, this was more of a liquid consistency. Also to me stew should have chunks of meat, this had pieces. Yet I enjoyed it, it tasted just like beef stew. I don't recall what they had aside from it was salmon and they enjoyed it. I had a second appetizer as a dinner, nachos. Big pile of chips that I couldn't finish. It came with chili on it, I love chili but there wasn't enough to tell you if I liked the chili or not. I've had better nachos and I've had worse. Time for an update here after being open now for one year they have come to be a decent restaurant. Nice happy hour and the best deal at the Jersey shore for their prime rib Monday special dinner for $9.95 which brings people in from far and wide or this meal. And, as a result this place is jamming on Mondays unlike any other bar/restaurant in the shore area. Half Moon Point wasn't our first choice this evening. We thought we had reservations at another place but they claimed they never got them off their answering machine. Oh well. We weren't too far from HMP so what the heck? It was a Tuesday night during restaurant week and four of us easily got seating on the second floor. Ryan was our server and took care of us very well; very polite and efficient. I've found all reviews depend on circumstances naturally, and what you decide to order. Apparently this night I didn't order wisely enough. I ordered tuna bites for an appy. They are 8 blackened chunks of tuna with a drop or two of wasabi paste on top. Mine came out overdone and dry. Also a couple of pieces didn't taste too fresh. For an entrée I ordered the shrimp and grits. The kitchen staff delivered fish and chips. Maybe they sound the same but it was very quiet in the dining room when I ordered. They apologized and returned with my shrimp and grits pretty much after everyone was finished. I'm not basing this review on a misunderstanding; things happen. I thought the shrimp was decent but the grits were overly salted. Friends at our table really enjoyed their meals so I think it has potential. Perhaps next time I'll order the right thing. Oh yeah they have a decent tap beer selection. read more

Had plans to go to a local restaurant for restaurant week but unfortunately we couldn't get in. Half Moon Point was plan B. Four of us went for dinner here on a Tuesday night. It was great that HMP could accommodate us. They have a couple of craft beers & I found one I liked so I was happy. Our server, Ryan was personable & accommodating. I ordered the lobster bisque for an appy. It came out watery with very little lobster in it & room temperature. I ordered the scallops for dinner. Not bad, & hotter than the soup but a bit overdone. We did not order off the special pricing menu. My husband's order came out completely wrong & he then had to wait for the correct dinner to come out. In the interim, the 3 of us finished our dinners. I think this place has potential but there was no offer at all to compensate for the meal mix up. At the end of the night it was a very expensive evening. Fantastic dining experience! I came here for with my mom and Aunt for a belated birthday dinner, not knowing what to really expect. I have to admit we were all pleasantly surprised!!! Half Moon Point, formerly the Forte, has been completely remodeled and under new ownership (now a sister to Harpoon Willies). Half Moon Point is two stories, with two dining rooms, two bars, and a cute outdoor patio. The decor is refreshing, beachy, with a very modern and posh element fused into one. The tables have white table cloths, candles, and the walls are brick and wood, along with beautiful modern paintings on the walls of blues and greens. There are also two electric fireplaces on each floor, that really add something extra special to the ambiance! Plus, there is an elevator to take you to the second floor if needed, and it is covered in wood paneling to match the rest of the dining room decor... a very nice and thoughtful touch! The food was excellent. We started off we fresh calamari with marinara sauce for an appetizer. My mom ordered a glass of J Lohr red wine, my Aunt a peach lemonade cocktail, and I had club soda with lime and decaf coffee. (I'm not a big drinker). I had a taste of the peach lemonade cocktail though....it was AMAZING! Our entrees were equally satisfying. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Tacos, which were stuffed with seared tuna avocado, cilantro, lime, and an asian slaw. The presentation of the tacos could not have been cuter! All three tacos came out in a metal type pan with three slots for each taco! My aunt went with Italian, the Rigatoni & Sausage Bolognese, and ate the whole bowl! Last, my mom went with seafood, the "bay bake" with a plate of fresh shrimp, clams, scallops, crab cakes, etc. Everything was yummy. Our waitress, Courtney, was great. She informed us of their daily specials (which change every day), their rotating craft beers, and made sure we had everything we needed. I told her it was out first dining experience at Moon Point, and to our surprise the manager, Holly, treated us to free desserts of our choice!!! (one for each of us!) I had the chocolate cheese cake, mom had the creme brulee, and Aunt Nancy had the cream puffs. Courtney discovered that this was a belated birthday dinner ( I opened a gift haha) and even put a candle in the cake for me and the entire dining room sang! awwww! I typically get embarrassed by things like that, but the rest of the patrons at Half Moon genuinely seemed happy to join in. When we left, an elderly couple stopped by the table and wished me a happy birthday again. It was really sweet. Overall, a very special experience. Good food but the bar service stinks. My friends and I have eaten a number of times at Half Moon Point. The lobster grilled cheese with tomato soup is delicious, the fish bake is plentiful & yummy, hamburgers are juicy and tasty, and they even manage to make Brussels sprouts taste good in a variety of ways with either bacon or buffalo sauce and blue cheese. Today two of us arrived around 4:30, sat at the bar, and ordered a drInk off of the Happy Hour menu which runs until 5:30. The drink was ok so we ordered off of the regular drink menu for the next round. Another friend arrived around 5:10 and ordered a drink off of the Happy Hour menu. We then ordered some appetizers off of the Happy Hour menu. Our friend asked the bartender, Natalia, if she could have a back-up of her first drink even though she was only about halfway through with the first one. She wanted the Happy Hour price. Natalia told us that she was not supposed to be backing up drinks at the Happy Hour price until the first drink was completely finished but would do us a favor this one time. Really? We were going to stay for dinner but left after Natalia acted as if she was doing us a favor. We spent our money at another local establishment where the bartender did not seem as if she was bothered by us. If I could give zero stars, I would! The service was awful! I do not recommend this place for anyone who wants to have decent, or even bare minimum adequate service. The food was merely ok. They made no accommodations for food allergies aside from putting a few side dishes on a plate and calling it an entree. Normally, the server checks with the chef about possible accommodations, but Blair (our server) took it upon herself to decide what that food sensitivities meal would consist of. Seriously would recommend finding another place to eat when down the shore. We had reservations, we were there when there were several open tables on a Thursday night. There was no reason we should have waited an hour and a half for our dinner plates. Two salads, 1 burger, one kid meal, and 2 fish dinners but Blair (our server) could not handle the situation. FYI: My wife and I went there for dinner on Saturday evening 9/14/2019 for my birthday at HALF MOON POINT in POINT PLEASANT NEW JERSEY and I ordered the "Red Snapper" in fried diablo sauce. When they delivered the dish to me at the bar I was told the diablo sauce was put in the side in a cup which was strange and I was disappointed. I tried the sauce and it was marinara sauce only. I informed Jessie and she took back to kitchen. Jesse returned to me and said they changed the sauce. I tried the sauce and all they did was put red pepper flakes in cup and mix it. I told her forget it and if they can just give me a Red Snapper Blacked instead and she said okay. I have been a restaurant consultant for 20 years and when she took the plate back a second time to the kitchen I turned to my wife and said "Hun watch they will bring me back the same Red Snapper and not replace it." Well guess what Jessie gave me the dish, but how they corrected was very disappointing. They blackened the skin side and served the dish with the skin side facing up. When I turned the Red Snapper over the side that was supposed to be up was not blackened at all. I guess the chef assumed if I see the Red Snapper Blackened on one side I would ignore the other side. I informed Jessie and showed her what had happened and she was at ah, and she took the dish away. She offered to get me something else but my night was ruined and I lost faith in the food they service and management. I asked for our check and before she gave me the check Jessie approached the Kerri the Manager with curly hair and when she gave me the check and removed my dish from the check. What the manager should had done was approach my wife and I and address the situation but instead she left to up to Natalia and Jessie the bartenders to address such a recklessness, bad business customer service in a place which considers themselves a fine dining restaurant. My wife and I frequent restaurants at least three to four times a week and I have never experienced such bad customer service. I'm sorry but this restaurant put food cost and sales before delivering to a customer proper food service. The proper approach should had been to prepare a new dish and not play games with a customer or play them like a fool. I have seen managers terminated because they don't address a situation like mine last night because consumers will no longer frequent location or trust them. I'm sorry I will never return to the place even though the bartenders were great. read more

The beet salad was delicious and incredibly large...it could have been my entire dinner. We just had an event here, and couldn't have been happier. On top of the fact that I have had dinner there many times--the event food was as good if not better. Holly and Carrie were awesome handling the event. Calming down the very nervous hostess--my girl--and they both did an awesome job of making sure everything she wanted was there and she was comfortable. Bass--the executive chef, not only invited us to a tasting--but nailed the food with his assistant chef Mike. The food was out of this world. Hand passed hours devours, a buffet to knock your socks off, and service that was above and beyond what I could have imagined. Kevin, Collin, Ryan and Nathan were as professional as can be, and even more helpful than one could imagine. From helping with the balloons to making sure every guest had water and was served as if it was a sit down dinner--I was overly impressed with the level of service given to us. So not only have I loved this place for business lunches as well as dinners with the family--but now add to the list the party capabilities upstairs for up to 80 guests (we had 50 very comfortably for a baby shower)...the question isn't so much of you should come here, but why haven't you already? Very fairly priced for the portions, the food and service are top notch. The menu is awesome, and the specials are changed daily. Generous drinks at the bar and at the table, and it may or may not be coincidence that we have our business meeting on Wednesday's when it's half price wine. Swing by, tell them Big Mike sent ya. You won't be disappointed. Not just lunch or dinner, but the banquet facility and how they handled it will have me rebooking this place again for every event we can. I ordered the short rib dinner over risotto served with fresh green beans and carrots, it was very good. My wife ordered the crabcake dinner with the vanilla sweet potatoes, they were overcooked and too much breading not much crab, my son ordered the filet mignon which was okay but needed more seasoning, it was cooked perfect temp of medium rare, and my daughter ordered the sirloin steak from the kids menu with a side of Mac and cheese, steak was very good, Mac and cheese no flavor. Service was good but food took very long. I will definitely go back but will opt for the burger and sandwich menu next time, they had many options which looked good to try. I came here this evening with my daughter and my friend with her daughter. We were first of all excited to come since being away due to COVID-19. My daughter and I got there early and ordered a drink. We started with the scallops over grits which was perfection! My daughter decided she wanted more starters so we had the moules frittes. - also very good. She decided she wanted more scallops so she ordered the scallops over arugula salad. Went to Half Moon for a much needed date night, and not only were we not disappointed, we had such a LOVELY time. The food was magnificent! My fiance and I split a half pound of scallops as a starter, we did them Cajun style and they were delicious. For our main meal, we each ordered the NY strip with the vegetables and the macaroni and cheese side. We are both very particular about our steak and they were both cooked to perfection (we like them rare)!! The Mac and cheese was delicious, definitely not overly cheesey, but it had great flavor. My fiance also ordered an old fashioned and loved it. Our waitress was attentive and wonderful. My father, grandmother, fiancé and I went to Half Moon Point to celebrate my birthday and also Mother's Day. I called the restaurant ahead and I explained to them we wanted to be seated upstairs in the restaurant. When we arrived to the restaurant it was extremely loud. The restaurant is not big and the bar is very loud (there is a bar upstairs as well as downstairs). There were two young hostesses shrugging their shoulders at each other when I asked to be seated upstairs and I explained to them I called and explained my request before coming in. I explained to them we don't like a loud atmosphere so we would like to be seated upstairs away from the noise. They sat us upstairs next to this large private birthday party (no masks, no social distancing and utter chaos). This made our dining experience unenjoyable as we were crammed into a corner in the restaurant right by the staircase. I asked our waitress if we could move tables away from the party and she acted like it was a huge problem and she responded with a huge attitude. She had dark hair, was very young and did not wear her mask over her nose. This started our dining experience off on the total wrong foot. We ordered the calamari and chili to start, the chili was okay and the calamari was chewy. Overall the fish was good and my fiancé got a pork chop which was good. We felt very rushed during our experience. The upstairs was very crammed and very noisy. We spent over $200.00 for okay/good food and a terrible dining experience. I'd rather go to Charlie's of Bay Head where we usually dine for special occasions and on a regular basis. We decided to try Half Moon Point again because previously we have had good experiences here and Charlie's did not have any reservations available.. after our experience last night we will never be coming back to Half Moon Point. I hosted my sisters bridal shower here and their were some positives and some negatives. The positives were that the food was good, the room is beautiful, and the staff helped me bring in gifts up the stairs which was really nice. The negatives were that we told the bartender we wanted just a mimosa bar, and white wine and we announced this to our guests. Some of our guests who didn't listen ordered a bunch of bloody marys, red wine ect and we were left with the bill after we told them exactly what we wanted. Also, they charged us for wine per the glass when Holly the coordinator said we would only be charged by how many bottles of wine we used. I felt like the bartender should of told our guests that they were on their own for those drinks. Also, we ran our of food very quickly and our guests were standing around waiting for more food to be brought out. The pasta was ice cold as well. The buffet was $17.00 per person, but the alcohol is wayyyy over priced. We spent more money on alcohol than food. So if booking this place just be careful of the alcohol costs. read more

I came here for a bridal shower this past weekend and was FLOORED by this beautiful space! We had the entirety of the upstairs, which was a beautiful room, complete with rustic chic decor, an electric fireplace, decorative touches, beautiful wooden mantle, and a wall of windows. The space was airy, fresh, and beautiful. The perfect location for any sort of shower! There was a bar upstairs, as well as bathrooms - and to boot, a champagne DIY bar! They put out a variety of juices, including pineapple, OJ, guava, white cranberry, and cranberry. You know how I feel about mimosas, so I opted for a splish of guava with my champagne - yummy!! Food was buffet style, and everything was delicious - there were a variety of options - we had the following to choose from: salad (fresh and yummy), sauteed carrots and green beans (I picked out the carrots, they were good), potatoes, rigatoni ala vodka (hard to mess this up!), salmon, and chicken francaise (yummy!).
