One of my favorite restaurants of all time! You need to try the Filet Orleans medium rare. Can't wait to go again!

Came here for an early dinner, around 5:00pm & were seated immediately. We had a young waitress that talked so fast I could hardly understand her and couldn't pronounce Chorizo, which is an ingredient on two of their specials for the month. But at least they have waitresses, right?! We ordered a dozen chargrilled oysters for an appetizer and they were left a little long in the broiler. I've eaten here dozens of times and never, ever had over charred oysters. Had the sautéed snow crab claws that were just OK, definitely not worth the $18 we paid for them. We shared the seafood augratin snapper that was topped with shrimp and our sides were the hush puppies that are always good and the sweet potato cream brûlée with honey butter. The main course was delicious. For dessert we had the bananas foster cheese cake. It was just ok, way to sweet for me, the waitress never told us it was cheese cake she just said bananas foster...we knew because we've eaten there a hundred times. And she brought our check out before our dessert even arrived....gotta turn those tables I guess. In a nutshell, service was so-so, food as well and we felt a little rushed out the door. AWESOME!!!! The bridal party had a wonderful time. We ordered drinks and appetizers. We started off with the apple carmel martini. OMG..... They were so good. No one does an apple martini like the Cheesecake Factory. Just my opinion readers. However, Half Shell you have definitely put your on spin on the apple martini and I LOVED it! We all did and we kept them coming until we couldn't take anymore. The appetizers were great as well. We ordered the chargrilled oysters. They were cooked to perfection and the seasoning was mouth watering. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes & crab cakes. This was unique as it's not your usual combination of dishes. The fried green tomatoes were layered with blue crab cake, served over lemon aioli and topped with crab ravigotte! It's a definite must try. Last but not least, we ordered the crab and lobster dip. You can never go wrong at Half Shell. The food is always worth the wait. The oysters are heaven on a half shell. Ask for the Mario oysters. They are not in the menu but truly the best. I've been to this location before about a year ago and was very happy with my pasta so we decided to try it out again when we visited Flowood. I decided to try the shrimp tacos because I love a good shrimp taco. I was very disappointed with my food. I have never ordered shrimp tacos and only gotten the shrimp and the tortillas.. no slaw, no toppings, nothing?! Very strange.. & the sauce on the shrimp was very sweet. I was also unimpressed with how sloppy they looked? My fries were the best part of the meal and I wish I had more of those! My brothers both ordered the blackened chicken Alfredo pasta which they said was very good, but the portions were so small. I know it was lunch, but ridiculous! Service was very slow.. My husband and I arrived at Half Shell at 6:58. We were meeting friends who were visiting from out of town. We were placed on the waitlist at 7:01. The hostess said that our wait would be an hour and fifteen minutes. We greeted and conversed with another waiting party for over two hours. They'd been there an hour before we arrived. After hours we were still number 16. After finally being seated, the seafood pasta that my friend and I ordered was dry. We requested more sauce. By the time the sauce came out, the guys were done eating and the sauce that was brought to the table was COLD. We boxed it up to take home. Before bringing the check out waitress had a complete meltdown (tears and all) at our table. She stepped outside for about 15 minutes then returned to complain about how much she made and how poor the tips were that she'd received since being there from 10 am. read more

We arrived about 6:30 on Friday night and had an 1 hour 15 min wait. Will use Yelp to get on the wait list while on the way next time. We ordered Chargrilled oysters as an appetizer. They were wonderful. I had a glass of Moscato that was soooo smooth. I ordered the Royal Reds with sweet potato Brulee and the asparagus as sides. Perfect combination! The shrimp were peel and eat which I didn't expect but peeled so easily. The butter and cinnamon sugar with the sweet potatoes made it like having dessert with dinner. Hubby ordered the fried oysters with fries and hush puppies. The oysters were perfectly cooked. They weren't greasy at all and were lightly breaded so you could savor the oyster, not a lot of batter. Amazing Experience I would highly recommend sitting at the bar and watching the two gentlemen shuck and cook oysters. Our interaction with them made out date-day. HSOH was clean, family friendly, and the staff was beyond courteous. Sit to the far left of the bar and strike up a conversation with the two men that are cooking. Guy's mask full hour we were seated was on chin. Behind the bar and when he walked out. One of the females just over lips. Tall young black table clean up guy completely off nose and mouth as he walk through restaurant. On the way out waiting area was crowded with no direction from hostesses to space . People were seated booth to booth without barrier. If 50% occupancy all 50% were in one dining area. I really want to return but will probably dine outside. Service is decent...although our waitress was a little too aggressive with the service...and yes you can have TOO much service . She came by too frequently to ask us if we needed anything....I kid you not - she came by 2 times within a span of 6 mins. And then some more. It took away from the quality of our dining out experience. And she was very pushy with getting us our drinks even though we barely sat down and opened the menus. It was a gloomy rainy afternoon when I returned home after work. I was so busy today at work and didn't have enough time for lunch. So I decided to go somewhere I can sit and have a reasonable quiet dinner. I was in a mood for seafood and something different. It was drizzling, I started my drive with windshield wipers on. The road had less traffic due to weekend, but it was covered with light mist and fog. I love long drive with my favorite songs playing in the car stereos. It make me happy and indifferent. My minds sleeps back in time , I started ruminating memories. My minds fly through the down memory lanes. It was one hour and a half drive till I reach the restaurant. I parked in front of it and reached the reception area. It was not too busy and I don't have to wait . The waitress Jana was excellent. She took time to explain the menus with her sparkling eyes and bright smile. The inside decor was simple. The food service was in good pace. I stared with half a dozen charbroiled oysters, those were delicious. The smoked yellowfin tuna dip was tasty. Love the fried crab claws. It was hard to make choice for the main dish. At last I ordered the seafood sampler. It comes with Grouper, shrimp, crab cake, jalapeño hush puppies , fried oysters and two sides. It is a huge plate for me. I was too full to order dessert. Favorite restaurant in Flowood. They have a variety of food to pick off the menu. The oysters are so yummy (of course). I love the appetizer choices and everything always taste delicious and fresh. They have a lot of alcohol/drink options, and everything I've tried is great! First time trying a martini and I was very impressed and now have a new favorite drink! This is one of my favorite places to visit in Flowood, MS. I guess COVID has really affected their service. We ordered from our hotel and told it would take 20-30 minutes. An hour and 20 minutes later, we found ourselves parked against a wall waiting on our food. The bartender was so nice and provides us with a yummy cocktail for ourselves while we waited. We got our food and headed to hotel which was less than a mile away. Upon unpacking our food, we discovered everything was cold. Not even lukewarm, which from the time we picked up to arrival at our hotel, which meant it had to have been packed cold. We ordered crab claws (and it was on the receipt!) but got crab cakes instead. We also got the oyster sampler and one of the oysters tasted really bad which was a quick appetizer depressant for the rest of our meal. We were afraid to eat any more, and given the temperature of the meal, our $95 loot was quickly in the trash. I am so disappointed with our experience. Covid is expected to delay wait times, but not quality and proper temperature of food. We won't plan a visit anytime again soon until they step up their standards to what they used to be. read more

Everytime I visit Mississippi I have to make sure that Half Shell is one of my stops. It has never disappointed. From the service and food all the way to the drinks, everything is always A1! Even if things aren't exactly on point, management comes by to check on your table throughout your visit to accommodate you and make sure things are well. I love that! Wow. This place is excellent. Don't bother going anywhere else for seafood. This is it. Kind hostess, funny and attentive waiter, tasty food. I enjoyed my main shrimp/grits dish as well as the sweet potato creme brulee. In terms of decor, there are oyster shells all over the walls which is super fun. The place is classy and a very nice date night. I believe Half Shell is a small chain only in Mississippi. I have been to locations on the coast, in Jackson, and in Hattiesburg.
