Stopped in on the way home to Tennessee. Place was busy, but we were seated quickly. Attentive waitstaff had our drinks and order quickly. Fried pickles were hot, crispy, and on point. The star of the show was the thin and crispy catfish. They use Simmons catfish, and it's some of the mildest I've ever tasted. Well cooked and mildly seasoned, the fish was very good. The coleslaw was finely minced and mayonnaise sweet and the collard greens were some of the best I've ever had. Redolent with smoky pork, they didn't suffer from too much vinegar as many do. Option of all you can eat platter, unless you are a NFL player there is no way you need the all you can eat option. I saw so many leftovers from other tables . Service is quick. Everything is fresh. Cooking oil they use doesnt seems to be old because food is golden color instead of dark brown and burnt like fast food places. Catfish need more seasoning. Might be kinda bland but they do provide a bottle of tartar sauce for you. Also they have "come back" sauce for other items to dip in. I love hush puppies and I like theirs. When I received my bill, their tip calculation included a tip on taxes! It's very misleading to the customer.. When, I tried explaining it to the waitress. She just kept telling me it's not in the bill it's just a suggestion.. She could not understand that it's misleading to add a tip on the taxes also.. Really anywhere around the area. I had catfish and oysters and it was definitely a good meal and for what it was, I feel that it was competitively priced. I had a client recommend the catfish here and it definitely did not disappoint. Service was good and while there was nothing fancy about this restaurant, it kind of captured the Mississippi fried seafood restaurant vibe. A casual but pleasant experience. I've been craving for AYCE whole catfish that's not buffet style, but freshly fried to order. Only a small handful of places that does this, we've never here so decided to try. We both got the AYCE catfish, you can choose between filet or whole (doesn't include grilled), and they had several sides that you can choose from, that's also ayce. He got the filets, I got the whole. They brought out half a platter of filets, and 3 whole catfish! It was piping hot, but not greasy at all. I love cornmeal breading, it's light, but crunchy, the fish were nicely seasoned, and meaty, it hit the spot! These filets were very comparable to Mama Hamils strips when they used to do strips, the last time we were there, they were more like nuggets. Super white catfish, lightly battered, crispy, and fluffy on the outside, so good! My whole fish was fried hard, but the inside still moist and flaky. Service was good also. Next time I'll probably ask for 1 or 2 whole catfish sent at a time instead of all 3. Once I made it to my 3rd filet it wasn't piping hot anymore. Seems steep for 11$ but that's the owners call. Scored my whole fish which completely destroys the taste profile of the whole fried fish. I wasn't given an option. Baked potato was old and cold. End of dinner I was able to get waitress attention (barely) and I asked her for a hot spud. She brought one with no butter and no sour cream. Another waiter saved the day. Okra was good. The Gumbo was good but needed a little more heat for my preference so I added some hot sauce and pepper but did like it. The lunch I wasn't fond of at all. The Catfish filets had hardly any fish. They were too thin and all I could taste was the batter. Keep in mind this restaurant actually does sell thin and crispy catfish filets and this was not that, these were the regular ones and they were still so thin. The 5 shrimp were very plump and the batter was more of the flour style that I'm not a big fan of but there were good. The 5 pieces of catfish were a tad small in size but they tasted great. Didn't have the greatest experience. The place was decent enough, clean enough, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food wasn't so great though. I didn't care for the batter, just tasted salty and gritty. Fish was ok, portion size was ok. I really wasn't able to eat either of the sides. The greens had a strange sweet taste to them instead of like a smokey slow cooked ham hock kind of pot liquor. The mac & cheese was dry and flavorless. I did get some gumbo as well, and that was one of the better things. I should have mixed it up a bit, as it was ricey on the bottom and soupy on the top, but I didn't realize that till I got to the rice on the bottom. Overall I guess I wouldn't recommend the place. Incidentally, there was a loud table with a bunch of teen/young adult men who were mocking my every move and repeatedly calling me a faggot, like dozens of times in a half hour. I'm not gay - just a northerner, and I wasn't looking for a fight, so it didn't really bother me, but it was an awkward and unusual experience. I guess you can't fault the restaurant for that, but it did make for an uncomfortable meal.
