Super gross store. After driving by this place for years, I'd grown curious about trying their candies. From the parking lot, you'll observe what appears to be an auto repair in the back and many hungry cats at their porch. The inside contained dusty old stuffed animals and a virtually empty display case with questionably old-looking chocolates. I spent roughly $30 on an assortment of candies and chocolates to include some of the old stuff in the display case. Upon biting into my first one, a worm emerged. After inspecting the other chocolates, another actually had what appeared to be a cocooned worm in it (still wiggling). This crusty old feline-overrun chocolatier is nearly tucked under the 10 freeway on Grove and has apparently been "serving" the community for decades. Thank you Halgren's...but I think I'll stick to the professionals when it comes to chocolates from now on. But thanks for the disgusting nightmare.

I give this place 4 stars only because I'm not a fan of the new location. I loved the old location. Reminded me of a chocolate factory. New location is tucked in a shopping mall. Despite the relocation. I absolutely love this place over any other place to buy chocolate covered strawberries. Usually they are large. Sadly this Valentines Day that just passed, they were terribly small. Overall I highly recommend this place to any.

I've had chocolate covered strawberries from here before but yesterday was my first time visiting their locaiton. They're located off Grove between 4th & 6th street and right against the 10 fwy. (exit 4th st. and got west). Right now, it's a bit of a challenge to get in their driveway because of all the construction going on, but it's worth doing a u-turn to get in. You can't miss the house, it stands out and is behind a shopping center and across from Brick Pizza Shack. Like everyone else, we came here for chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's day. These were made fresh the same day and when we ate them they tasted amazing. The chocolate is a little thicker than say, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory or Sherrie's Berries. Chocolate covered strawberries are always a great idea to bring to any sort of function, but these are even more special. If you're in Ontario or passing through the city, I would recommend stopping here for their chocolate covered strawberries.

This place is a hidden gem. From the outside it is kind of hard to tell that it is there because the signs look a little old and faded, but when you get there they are so nice and friendly. Looks like a house turned candy factory. We got the 4pc chocolate covered strawberries. We picked the chocolate flavors and they dipped it right there for you. A few hours later the strawberries were still juicy and sweet and the chocolate portion was perfect. Try this place out. You won't be disappointed.

Halgren's is a very good place for chocolate dipped strawberries. They make them with both white and dark chocolate. The staff is nice and helpful. Not sure how they took the photos for yelp, when I have been there it was very dark. Anyhow, I have only bought the strawberries, but there is a shop full of all kinds of candies, mostly chocolate. read more

This place is amazing!! Running since 1957, it has never disappointed me. Their chocolate covered strawberries are made fresh and are incredible to say the least. If you're looking for an awesome treat, try their caramel apples or wine infused chocolate. Finally, to top off all of their goodies, they had a friendly and appreciative staff. read more

One of our vendors brought us a box of the chocolate covered strawberries and we were all in heaven. We all were fighting over them, that's just how good they are. I never knew this place existed until they brought them in. Will def drop in for more treats! read more

Angelina is such a wonderful host and so kind!!! I will go to her for all my chocolate needs her store is filled with all kinds of goodies and not only chocolate. I was very excited to find out there has been a chocolate store hiding from me all this time in the area. We made our way over to this house that reminds me of a place ive been to before out of state. We ordered a bunch of chocolate from under the counter and my wife ordered some chocolate strawberries from a very nice lady behind the counter. Now from the look of this place on the inside i was afraid that alot of the chocolate has been sitting there for awhile and i think i was right. Everything we ordered from under the counter had the same weird old taste, like it aborbed the counter from stting there. It was very disappointing. My wife did like the strawberries, she said they are good but not the best she has had. If i ever go back i will have to find out when they have made something fresh. read more

Wow just wow I'm amazed from the history of the house to their amazing staff the mint truffle is one of my favorites but it's not as good as their chocolate cover strawberries and their almond apples just an amazing fun experience every time I go in thanks for the memories and the fantastic candy. read more

YES. The chocolate strawberries here are AMAZING ! The best I've ever tasted. They arent coated with a thin layer chocolate but a thick delicious layer of chocolate. My boyfriend got me a dozen on Valentine's Day and it was the best tasting ever, they also have a combination of milk chocolate, white chocolate, and dark chocolate (my fav). You cannot fail with their strawberries, I've yet to try anything other than the strawberries but the chocolate is definitely rich and delicious. good quality chocolate. read more

My husband and I have been driving by Halgren's for 20 years! We decided to drop in on a whim yesterday and good grief, what we have been missing! I was bummed that I couldn't get an apple as they were sold out but we didn't leave empty handed! Henry was helpful and friendly and we took home a big bag full of pecan turtles, peanut turtles, English toffee, chocolate covered marshmallow, chocolate covered rice crispy bar, haystacks, walnut clusters, peanut butter cups and peanut clusters! My husband's sweet tooth was very, very happy! I have less of a sweet tooth and would prefer more walnuts and coconut in the cluster and haystack. If you are a chocoholic, then you will go absolutely crazy over how much of the candy is chocolate! The pecan turtles were the best ever! And huge! But ohhhhh.... * THE * STRAWBERRIES *!!! They were actually out of them but as we were getting ready to leave, Henry said to hold on a minute. He quickly dipped 2 for us! Holy. Moly. We have never had strawberries as good as these! Not only were the berries super sweet, what makes them different is the consistency of the chocolate. It's delectably smooth and creamy and thick. All of the strawberries we've ever had have a thin layer of chocolate that cracks off at first bite. Not these! Henry explained that they use Belgian chocolate and the cocoa butter is what makes it better. He wasn't kidding! It was a very delicious and satisfying first visit... but it sure won't be the last! Already planning to go back for those apples and more strawberries! read more

I know this shop has been here for a long time, it's in a cute older house, but honestly. Their candy is old, doesn't taste good, and is overpriced! I don't think their turn-over is that great, hence the old candy. Too bad, I won't be back. read more

Went all the way out there to buy my wife something sweet today. Got there around 3pm. Yelp says they're open. Their website says they're open. The sign on the street said open. Open sign in the door. But the door was locked. No one there. No answer on the phone when I called. I won't go again. If you can't bother to be open when you say you will be, you lose my business. read more

My grandfather was on a hunt for sugar free candy, due to the fact that he has diabetes and a severe sweet tooth. He had looked up places carrying what he's looking for and Halgren's had said that they had a wide variety of sugar free candies. Upon arrival the salesperson said they had no idea what he was talking about the never had carried sugar free candy and basically just brushed him off. He said he had terrible service and he was appalled by the way the salesperson was treating him and how they were acting. He had such bad service that he came home and wanted me to write a Yelp review for him. read more

The only thing this company needs to improve is the consistent freshness of the product. I have only experienced the chocolate not being so fresh once but a lot of the ones on display you can tell are old. Overall this is not a bad place and when the chocolate is fresh...YUMMMM!!! read more

The cutest candy shop I've ever seen. Lived down the street for 25 years and I can remember it being there since I was little. Very original and the guy is super kind. I saw this place one day while I was house sitting for my brother, and I was taking his son to work. It's summer time so what caught my eye originally was their "Hawaiian Shaved Ice" sign, so after picking my nephew up from work, we decided to stop in for a shaved ice! It was so soft, like snow, and the flavors were really good, I had watermelon, and very cooling! I decided to buy some fudge for my husband when I went back home in a couple days, and I got myself the Pecan Turtle.(which I saved for when I got back to my house) Wow! It was delicious. The caramel was so buttery and they used whole Pecans, and the chocolate. Ohhhh, the chocolate covering all this goodness was soooo rich and creamy, I have been back again, and I got chocolate covered haystacks, another Pecan Turtle and more shaved ice, I wish I lived closer to Ontario, I'd be there every day for those shaved ices! read more

This is an adorable place to have a baby shower, a birthday, a girls meet up or anything else like a date! Lots of seating and even have two outdoor tables. I thought the prices were very reasonable. I've NEVER had Thai tea soft serve this good. It's light, creamy, not overly sweet, and doesn't taste fake--just smooth, legit goodness. Like if Thai tea and soft serve had a glow-up. And the toppings?? They understood the assignment. Coco jelly, cereal flakes, grass jelly, AND boba... it's giving texture, it's giving balance, it's giving "I need another one immediately." I finished mine and sat there like... should I? Because I might. Now let's address the boba. I usually don't even like boba (I said what I said), but theirs?? Warm, soft, perfectly chewy... borderline life-changing. Who am I?? The shop itself is a cute little hole-in-the-wall with a sweet, cozy vibe. Service was fast, friendly, and just good energy all around--no stress, no chaos, just vibes. I genuinely wish they had one closer to me because I would 100% be that person pulling up way too often. Don't sleep on this place. Your taste buds deserve better.

I didn't really taste balsamic, but I did get hints of a pepper like texture/taste. Service: 8/10 I came in about an 45mins before closing and I got a warm welcome in. They were pre-closing so I just selected an ice cream and they were quick to ring me up. Ambiance: 6/10 Nothin special. I came in at closing time. The shop was clean, well lit, and easy to access. Parking is probably hard to find during the day or on the weekends. TDLR: They don't do samples. Strawberry balsamic is good. Slight peppery hints. Don't be scared by the name. Can't really taste the balsamic. Parking availability depends on what time you come during the day.

Stopped by today to bring some Easter themed goodies to coworkers (I was working extra at a…read moredifferent clinic just for today). Saw the Easter egg Scotchmallows, 6 to a box for $13.50 and bought two boxes. (Dark chocolate! Yeah!) Saw signs at the store that Coming Soon were Coffee Scotchmallows and mini Scotchmallows! Wow! Also noticed they have new mint Scotchmallows on display. In all honesty the original cannot be improved upon in my opinion, except to make them larger, as they did in the case of the Easter eggs! I had my hands full with my shopping elsewhere at the Montclair place and therefore forgot to retrieve my free chocolate sample when I paid and went to the car. Oops! Hopefully the next customer just got a free extra sample! The ladies at this See's are always friendly, and kind and clearly enjoy what they do, which is wonderful.

There's tables inside and outside and we chose the large corner booth inside. It's very clean and roomy inside with minimal decor. The owner brought over cookies for the moms, and brought out cups of iced water for those who needed them. Great hospitality and service! I was tempted to get the Ube pancakes, but I had been eyeing the lilikoi French toast all week, so I went with that and a cappuccino. Also got a side of bacon and eggs. My oldest got the buttermilk pancakes and my youngest got the chocolate chip buttermilk pancakes and an iced matcha + honey with strawberry cold foam. Everything was wonderful! They make their own bread for their French toast and the passion fruit curd from scratch! Wow! So good! The strawberries were also super fresh. The bacon was cooked perfectly--nice and crispy!
