Most of the time when getting out from a cruise ship you don't expect the restaurants just off the pier to be particularly good, just convenient. If you walk past this restaurant you will miss the best seafood place we have tried in Sitka. Ask for Holly. A cheerful, friendly and helpful server who was just delightful to talk with. We tried the sour dough fritters that are served with honey butter. Served piping hot and delicious. Then we had the crab dip. Served with toasted crostini. Nice sized portion for sharing. Also steaming hot and very good. Imagine an artichoke dip but with crab instead. And then a sour dough bread bowl full of clam chowder that was excellent. Hot and creamy with a lot of clams. Wash it down with some good local beer and enjoy the day. The restaurants we have tried in town are good. This is even better. Don't walk past this place. read more

​We recently sat down and ate at this restaurant and were left bitterly disappointed. We had previously visited this restaurant when we were in Sitka in 2023 and had an outstanding experience. ​Before even dining in the restaurant, we had visited and discussed local specials and food options, and we were assured that the local specials would still be available the next weekend from the date we spoke with the hostess. Yet, when we visited the restaurant, we were told that these specials were no longer being offered. We were informed of this only after waiting approximately 25 minutes after being seated just for a server to come over, greet us, and take our drink orders. ​We decided to accept this misunderstanding regarding the local specials and ordered. Drinks took a long time to arrive, with a draft beer being served well after our cocktails were. ​We ordered crab combos for the table to share so we could sample multiple items without over-ordering. The server was fully aware that the crab plates were for the entire table, yet we were given only two pairs of crab scissors for a four-person party, no extra plates, and no containers for crab shells. Later, extra scissors were hastily delivered without the server checking on anything else we needed. We were only offered shell containers after we had already built up a large pile of crab shells on a plate we had to repurpose ourselves. ​The food itself was very good, with the exception of the clam chowder, which was mediocre. However, as the food was served, we noticed flies buzzing around our table and landing on our food. We constantly had to shoo flies away from our meals and our faces, with one landing directly on my face. Because the crab was protected by its shell, we ate that, but we ended up leaving the majority of the rest of the food once we noticed the flies landing on it. ​When one member of our party asked to refresh their cocktail, we were told the bar was closing after 5:00 PM. Had we been greeted and served promptly after being seated, this wouldn't have been an issue. ​After these experiences, we brought our concerns to our server's attention, and she brought the manager over to speak with us. The manager claimed that our server was probably just busy with other things and stated that she couldn't help flies coming into the restaurant, though she assured us they sanitize everything daily. The manager agreed to reduce our bill by 50% to compensate for our negative experience. However, when the server brought the bill, she stated it would only be reduced by 20% and tried to explain why this was sufficient. We were deeply disappointed that the manager would not honor her own agreement, just as they refused to honor what they had communicated to locals. ​If you're looking for outstanding clam chowder, I recommend The Pub downtown, which also has outstanding burgers. If you're looking for local crab, I highly recommend the Burger & Crab Shack just off downtown. Both of these places offer a great atmosphere and service, and will provide a much more authentic local experience. read more

Halibut Point Crab and Chowder was absolutely dangerously delicious. It is located between the exit of the cruise dock and the terminal entrance. They have a nice bar area where they serve restaurant style sit down service. The menu had many options from Reindeer sausage roll to a full on Crab boil feast for the table. The prices are geared towards the tourists and not the locals. The restaurant is pretty big with plenty of table seating inside, and outside when weather permits. They lure you in with the big tank outside that is labeled. LIVE CRABS and inside is indeed live Dungeness crabs. I was going to order the Reindeer Sausage but not being able to find any pictures, I went with the clam chowder which was thick and nicely seasoned. Next time I will get it I the fresh baked sourdough bread which looked awesome. read more

We stopped in after an excursion. Had some chowder and drinks. Everything was delicious, and the bartender was very friendly. He answered our little tourist questions. The view is also amazing! The food was delicious. My hubby had the salmon burger. I had the chowder in a sourdough bread bowl with the Caesar salad. As delicious as it was, it took forever to get our food out. We took a shot at this place although it was pretty quiet at lunchtime. Greeted by Adrianna,, our host and server, very friendly and helpful. This menu at least had more seafood than many of the restaurants we'd looked at so we had clam chowder and the sampler plate. No complaints about the food, although it is a little tough to judge fried dishes. Adrianna's kindness was probably the reason we stayed but it turned out to be a good lunch. read more

Worst experience ever very bad customer service and had us waiting for 45 min o an hour before my wife and I decided to just leave. They were not busy and had very bad lackadaisical energy. Pretty good for a restaurant right on a cruise dock. They have their own merchandise, and it's right when you walk in. Then you wait to be seated, and there's a big restaurant area. Also big windows so you can admire your ship and the sea. I was kept in beverages, which I appreciated. The corn bread was my favorite bite, but the crab also tasty. read more

We were docked with the cruise ship and weren't able to grab food while exploring Sitka due to the time crunch, but man were we glad to have been able to eat here! I tried the Alaskan Brewing Company pilsner and it was awesomely crisp and refreshing. The clam chowder was good but really soared with the addition of Cholula hot sauce. Hubby got the crab roll which he said was good but not $30 good. We shared a basket of fries which were seasoned nicely. Due to weather we had cancelled our cruise ship shore excursion yet we wanted to at least get off the ship. HPCC is conveniently located right next to the ship's pier. We were quickly seated in a large spacious high ceilinged dining room with exposed wood beams and were warmly welcomed by our server, ADRIAN. He was very friendly (he even acknowledged my University of Miami cap!) and was very helpful describing the menu and offering crab meat extraction advice. He let me sample 2 beers before choosing a delicious locally brewed IPA. We had clam chowder in a bread bowl and 2 lbs of king crab at a market price of apx. $67.50/lb. The chowder was excellent and had just the right amount of spiceness and the crab was rich and fresh with plenty of drawn butter for dipping. With the crab came sourdough corn fritters with honey butter which were also excellent. An awesome 70's and 80's classic rock soundtrack at just the right volume was very enjoyable. The tab for food and drink before tip was $189 for two. Considering the delicious food, ambiance, quality of service and convenient ship pier location, I'd consider HPC&C a great value. My husband and I dined here after our excursion on the cruise ship. My husband and I loved it. I was a bit concerned with trying a restaurant so close to the port thinking that it would be a tourist trap, but the food was really good and the portions were great. Holly was our server and she was so sweet. She did a great job serving us. She recommended the chowder and the bread bowl and I swear the bread bowl was the best bread I had ever had in a bread bowl combo before. They make all their bread here and you can tell the difference. It was so soft and tasty. The clam chowder was delicious too. It had a bit of a kick to it, but I do like that. I usually add tons of pepper to my chower anyway. But I did not have to add any salt or pepper to this chowder. Also, the clams were clean and not gritty at all. Wow probably some of the best king crab legs I've ever had! Looked way more than 3lbs too. The crab wasn't salty which was nice and paired well with the butter. Every piece was just so delicious and pretty big too! My family was happy and satisfied with the king crab legs. Yeah it was pricy but it was well worth it. The corn fritters that came with it was pretty good but you need to eat it with the honey butter that it comes with. The staff was kind and welcoming. Whatever questions we had about the crab she was able to answer and she brought us out anything we needed and more. This place was right next to the cruise port which made it convenient if you don't go into the town. They also had live dungeness crab for people to see and they let us take pictures of us holding them too. read more

We had lunch here while visiting Sitka. Two of us shared the Alaska Boil and upgraded to add kind crab. It was decent but could've used more seasoning. We did not ask until we were almost finished, if they had Old Bay seasoning. They did! We would have enjoyed the crab and shrimp more had we seasoned them from the beginning. The boil had reindeer sausage, which actually was pretty good. Someone else with us had the clam chowder and a salad. The clam chowder was in a bread bowl! She said the clam chowder was very good. When we were finally able to get to Halibut Point Crab & Chowder (because it was kind of a hike from where we docked), I was super excited. We ordered the Alaskan Crab Combo & the clam chowder. Our tour guide sent us to the worst Crab-Seafood Boil I have ever had! We spend $160+ on their Chowder and a two person Crab Seafood Boil that was so bad. The Crab was so over cooked that a lot of the legs did not have any meat left in them and the legs that did were super rubbery. The potatoes were still crunchy and not cooked enough, the corn was good and the sausage was good. The chowder was okay but nothing amazing. The Margarita drink I ordered was not very good but it was something I'd never heard of so I may just not have liked it. Don't waste your money on this place. I would avoid this tourist trap at all costs. I tried to have lunch there today and the host some big girl with black hair asked me for how many and I told her I was eating alone brought me over to a table and then literally wiped the table with her hand? I was sitting there the table was dirty, filled with crumbs from the last people, and I asked the waiter if I could get the table wiped off or if I could just move to another table. The hostess comes over and says what's the problem in the nastiest tone. I told her she sent me at a dirty table and this is unacceptable. She literally said to me whatever so I got up and walked out. They will not get my money and I'm glad because two other people on the ship eat there, and they said that the food was not good at all.
