While a little bit on the saucy side (which my sister told me is typical of Japanese style burgers), it was juicy and full of flavor. The cocktail was well made, aromatic, and well balanced. Really enjoyed my meal at Hall recently. It's a small space, but wasn't too crowded at opening, and we were greeted by the friendliest staff who took our jackets and allowed us to pick our seats. My husband and I opted to share a foie gras burger with mentaiko fries. The foie gras burger was delicious - juicy, cooked perfectly (medium rare), and very flavorful meat. Toppings (including tomato and lettuce) were super fresh and a good amount of foie gras as well. The mentaiko fries were delightfully crisp with a generous serving of the mentaiko sauce. I was specifically looking for a well rated spot with a Wagyu burger on Yelp, and this place perfectly fit the bill. I was looking for similar tastes to what I experienced in Tokyo and this place didn't disappoint. While I was waiting, I had one of their coconut cocktails (which the waiter said was one of their hardest drinks to make) and it was delicious -- and that's coming from a mocktail guy. The famous Michelin chef creation of the Wagyu burger without breaking a bank. This place is the bar seats outside two Michelin star kaiseki restaurant odo. It opens at 5:30pm and its first come first with two small tables and bar seats.they don't take reservation so be prepared to wait if you don't come at when it's open. The interior is dark, hard to see the menu and the food with the little candle on the table. Flashlight is your best friend, especially to take a good photo of your food. Me and my partner shared the A5 Wagyu steak burger and foie gras Wagyu burger. The Wagyu is great eating by itself, it melts in your mouth, but I didn't get the appear of in the burger, it's also super messy to eat they will fall apart coming from the sides. Not sure if our foie gras is not cooked well. But it's still cold in the middle. Wish they had seared a little bit longer to bring out the foie gras flavor. All the burgers are reasonably priced. Each order come with the fries. The drinks are not memorable, I had a sugar baby, which is very tiny portion. I specially asked for something not sweet, they recommend this one taste super sweet with a sweet dry plum in the bottom. Very disappointed. Hall is a cozy spot, but the nature of such a bar creates some problems, especially for a group larger than three. When checking in, we were initially seated at a table next to the door, but after the entire group (of four) arrived, we were told that the table only accommodates parties of up to three. We then played musical chairs to look for a spot until a couple was kind enough to offer their spots at the end of the bar. Very nice of the couple and not the fault of the restaurant, since it just is that small. Just something to keep in mind-- I think Hall is frankly better suited for a date night or to catch up as a party of two. We had the A5 Wagyu Burger, which was very indulgent. It was a few slices of wagyu over a beef patty, served with fries and honey mustard and ketchup for dipping. I thoroughly enjoyed the burger, but I'm not sure if the slices of wagyu made that much of a difference, but great for a one-time try! The sauce on the burger was also very very sweet, which I wasn't a huge fan of. I also had their Don't Stay for Breakfast, which is a light and refreshing spritz. It was delicious! Aesthetic beauty combined with quality and simplicity. Visiting restaurants spurred by viral social media marketing is very effective. Ever since watching a recommended YT video on Eater promoting the wagyu burger, I have been itching to visit Hall. Thankfully, there was no false advertising here. The vibe and ambiance despite the claustrophobic space was top notch. The burger was a messy delight with a bit too much sauce, but the enjoyment was there in every bite. This slightly hidden speakeasy is well worth the wait and works best for parties of 2 or less. The staff is very welcoming and attentive as one would expect. What is unexpected is how good that smoked salmon jerky was. Wish we ordered multiple servings of that! Looking forward to coming back to try that $55 deluxe burger with caviar! read more

This place is amazing and that's an understatement. I had the Miyazaki A5 Wagyu Burger and a Mezcaloma. The hostess and bartender was very attentive despite Hall being extremely busy. The steak on the burger was pure fat and so messy but in a good way. The interior resembles a western saloon. The Japanese take on American culture bleeds through the cuisine and decor. Hall is amazing. Their bartender Eddie is super friendly and down to earth. Burgers were great. But what really surprised me was the pepper wings. At first it felt like a soy glazed Korean fried chicken. But the crispness of the wing is crazy. I was worried that it would be packed - from what I saw online, seating was limited and the reviews were so good. When I arrived at 7:30, it was fortunately empty. A very attentive and friendly bartender served us at the bar. We had the single beef burger, chicken karaage and clam chowder. The food was AMAZING. This is the best burger I've had in the neighborhood and one of my favorites in NYC. The burger and karaage were rich, umami, and perfectly cooked. The clam chowder was also good (not too salty), but probably not something I would repeat, just because it wasn't standout. The bar is very cute and intimate. There space is mostly up of bar seating with a few small tables against the walls. We didn't try the cocktails this visit, but the menu was a fun list of Japanese-inspired drinks. We found out that behind the bar, there is a speakeasy-style one Michelin Star Japanese restaurant and separate lounge. Throughout the evening, folks for the Japanese restaurant and lounge quietly streamed in and out. This will definitely be a new regular spot for us. read more

I came here for restaurant week and did a pick up and I'm so glad I did. First off, ordering from their website was super easy. They ask for your phone number, you confirm and a code is then sent to your phone and then you're all in and all set to start ordering. I ended up getting their Miyazaki (A5) burger and it was amazing. The beef was so tender and it just melts right in my mouth. But regardless the flavor just mesh so well and visually the burger looked and smell delicious when I opened it. As for the fries, it was well seasoned and the ginger soy dipping sauce that came along with it was delicious. I could tell they used real grated ginger juice for the sauce. Without a doubt I highly recommend this place. They even came out to do curbside deliver for me when I called and ask if it's okay. This way, I didn't have to worry about getting a ticket for parking outside of their restaurant. When dining is back to normal, this is certainly one restaurant that I would love to do a dine in experience with. read more

Restaurant Week Wagyu burger with waffle fries I think it's so funny how they share the same space as Muse Sushi. How does it work they have two menus and act like two restaurants?? Figured to order to make my commute easier. Well I was attracted to the wagyu part. The burger wasn't that interesting. There was some wasabi on it but not too exciting. The wagyu was actually a couple slices on top of a regular burger. I was slightly disappointed by it. The wagyu was nice and soft though. I forgot about the sauces until my last bite. There was a brown sauce that came with the burger. It's some sort of pepper glaze. I like it's brightness and wish I remembered it earlier. It came with a side of waffle fries. Gotta say they were really airy and crispy and fluffy. Quite interesting texture as I usually only find two out of the three elements together. I opted for the lobster and Shrimp burger and waffle fries. The lobster and shrimp was so fresh and it was so juicy. The waffle fries are seasoned well. The service was amazing and unexpected. We did pick up thinking we would go sit on park benches. However, when we got there, we saw there were some tables in their outside dining setup. Ordered from the NYC Restaurant Week to go menu, and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of steak in the burgers. Miyazaki A5 Steak Burger ($20.21, comes with waffle fries): the burger patty itself is on the smaller side, but the wagyu steak on top is delicious! Perfect amount of marbling and melts in your mouth. Honestly, the burger doesn't really need the steak because the bread proportions drown out the fattiness and makes it seem like a regular burger, but it was definitely worth the trip to pick up! If you're not into wasabi though, I would scrape off the sauce. Personally, I don't mind it. I've been coming to HALL For years and never got around to make a review until now. If you walk down the block too quick, you'll easily miss Hall's entrance, but that shouldn't take away from how beautiful the location is. Only downside to HALL is the limited seats. Onto the drinks. I ordered the train to Bhutan cocktail and it was tasty with a salt rim. The cocktails at HALL are always a hit and a huge variety of flavors and alcohol options. Food up next. We ordered karage, Cowboy (bbq brisket) burger, and the HALL signature burger. The karage pieces were bigger than expected and mainly meat pieces as opposed to fried breading. Both burgers were accompanied with fries and each were delicious and different. Hall burger was a double patty cheeseburger and Cowboy burger was BBQ flavored brisket with a patty. Hands down best burgers ever! So glad I found this cool spot in Chelsea and in walking distance from my office. Came here with coworkers during the week for lunch. We all grabbed spots at the bar !!!! To note this spot is small but there are seats at the bar and a few around, more like high chairs with a table. Mini review: Excellent handmade soba on Mondays with great cocktails and a very good burger as well. Highly recommended. Anyway, I went to this excellent bar twice so far; once for their Monday night soba, and once late on a Friday to try their burger/regular menu. Located in front of a very nice kaiseki place called Odo; named after the chef; they serve a Japanese inspired bar/izakaya menu with a lots of beef dishes as well as an inspired cocktail menu. Their alternate menu on Monday nights is handmade soba and it's one of the best I've had in the city though this to be expected coming from the chef's roots at Kaijutsu. The bartender and the rest of the staff are quite friendly with good recommendations. Soba night: This place wasn't as crowded on Monday though I did get there early and it was pretty packed by the time I left. To drink, I asked for the cocktail menu over their various selection of sake and a couple shochus (I would add more which would lend to some more good cocktails.) I ordered the Hall Old Fashioned. In terms of food, I ordered their Jidori Kara-age and their cold kinoko soba. To drink- Old Fashioned (16): Rye whiskey, kuro sato (Japanese black sugar) creme de cacao,black walnut bitters, and an orange/lemon twist. This was well balanced with some good sweetness to balance out the strong alcohol flavor. I preferred it over the drink I ordered the second time I was here but I tend to be a fan of whiskey based drinks and especially a good old fashioned. Appetizer- Jidori Kara-age (8): This was served with some scallions on top with some lemon on the side to drizzle. The breading was light, the chicken was moist, and the scallions/lemon helped reduce the fattiness. I thought the dish was fine though I would go with the bartender's recommendation and get the tofu or grilled eggplant next time. Main- Cold Kinoko Soba (16): This place has a choice between several different traditional udons; both cold and hot; and I went with their cold kinoko soba as I was quite warm to begin with. Kinoko means mushrooms and alongside a melange of mushrooms, there was a glistening egg, some scallions, some mashed daikon, and of course some handmade soba in a light colored broth. The balance of flavors and textures was outstanding with the egg adding slight richness. The broth was both refreshing and very flavorful and the noodle texture was some of the best I have had in the city. This was in short one of the best sobas I have had and miles ahead of the other local soba places. Regular menu: This place was crowded but it didn't take long to get a seat. To drink- Sherry Blossom (16): Japanese gin, Shiso infused Manzanilla sherry, Gran Classico bitters, Celery bitters, shiso leaf. This was a nice take on the various sherry cocktails you find in the city. Unlike many other ones, it only had a slight burn thanks to the citrusy shiso and it was both strong and refreshing. Good take. Main- Washyu Short Rib Deluxe Burger (20 I believe): This was an excellent and flavorful burger though of course a bit messy. I'd list exactly what was on it but the menu doesn't list it either. I remember lettuce, tomato, onions, some mushrooms, some Japanese BBQ sauce, and some type of cheese but I am unsure exactly. As expected from the ingredients, this burger had a strong umami flavor. It fell apart after while but they provide a fork/knife for a reason. The fries had some parmesan (and perhaps a little truffle oil though it wasn't overpowering. The burger was in short quite good and I could see going here at lunch time for their special. Dessert- Sake Lees Ice Cream Monaka, red bean, soy caramel reduction (6 or 8 I believe on the dinner menu): This was a nice take on the usual monaka, a Japanese sandwich made from chewy mochi wafers filled with red bean. The red bean was not super sweet and the caramel was light. There was a light refreshing flavor also (probably the sake lees) though the ice cream made it a little bit messy. It was good. I'd definitely go back for their kamo nanban soba or some other soba. This place was excellent and worthy of it's rating and it's prices. The ambiance in Hall was elegant, classy and intimate. It's a perfect and ideal place for dating. Their food was amazingly delicious and delicate. You can tell how the chef cares about what he cooks from the dishes. My husband's favorite was US Wagyu Beef Burger and Beef Prosciutto. The patty made of Wagyu beef was super juicy and greatly matched with the soft brioche bun. The Beef Prosciutto was fresh, great balanced of meat & fat and it melted in your mouth immediately. My favorite dish was Fig tempura, warm flash of fruit with crispy and thin layer. We enjoyed and felt satisfied with their food. However, there is room to improve for their service. Firstly, it was our first time here and we asked for recommendation but the waiter wasn't patient to introduce. Then when they served our dessert - sake ice cream Monaka, they dropped the top cover to the table by accident but he just walked away without any apology or trying to replace with a new one. read more

Tonight I visited HALL for a second time. What a special place! Very classy, intimate, and just amazing overall. I've only ever visited the quaint speakeasy-ish cocktail joint in front, but I hear the dining room is just as enjoyable! I also hear they have a killer lunch! Try any of the drinks! They are high end, classy, and a bit pricey... but well worth it! Especially enjoyable is the Hall Old Fashioned and the Dama D'oro (a Mezcal drink). I'm so happy this place is located a few doors down from my office! This is my second visit, and I definitely plan to become a regular! read more

Incredible breakfast and lunch counter that becomes a bar at night. I've gone to Hall for breakfast coffee. In the morning, it's quiet and there are a few tables and a counter for sitting and meeting up with a friend or enjoying your coffee. They also serve pastries and egg sandwiches. The star of Hall, in my opinion, is the burger at lunchtime. For only $6, you can get an extremely juicy, filling, perfectly salty and tasty. I added on fries which were thick and slightly crispy. They were served with a ketchup and mustard. My meal also came with a choice of a "soft drink" when I added on fries (fries + drink = an additional $6). I got the yuzu lemonade, which was tart and refreshing. I came at the end of the lunch hour (around 1:30pm) and there were a few people dining and plenty of space at the bar. I saw a few people order the chicken sandwich, which looked very good. After finishing my burger, I sat at the bar for a bit longer to read a book. Hall is laidback, quiet, and the service is so attentive and welcoming. This feels like a great place to relax as much as it is a place to enjoy a terrific burger. read more

Bar with speakeasy vibes by night, cozy breakfast and lunch spot by day. Is this not the very essence of New York, with all these businesses doubling up and capitalizing on the pricey rent? I came here for lunch after hearing about the washu beef burger. It's a good deal for $6. Add on another $6 and you'll also get fries and yuzu sparkling lemonade, which is what I did. The burger, which comes with American cheese, chopped onion, mayonnaise, and sansho soy sauce, is really tender and flavorful. I just love how each bite melds the meat and cheese together more. The bun itself is also great. It's a simple, no-frills burger that really focuses on the quality and flavor of the meat. They also pay so much attention to detail, which I really love. The potato wedge fries come sprinkled with seasoned salt. There's what appears to be horseradish mayo on one side, and ketchup on the other side. But this ketchup is actually mixed together with spices and actual bits of tomato, giving it more of a chutney-like texture and fresher flavor. I enjoyed the lemonade as well. It had a perfectly balanced yuzu flavor with actual little pieces of yuzu floating around. I spoke to the very friendly manager, and it seems like they're testing out their lunch menu for now, but items might rotate and increase in price afterward. Honestly stumbled upon this spot via a Google map search, since we were in the area and I had a deep craving for a burger. We walked pass it twice, because the sign on the door said "Odo" (but there was a board, leaning against the wall that said 'Hall') and we later learned that there's a speakeasy Japanese sushi counter in the back -- Hall is the bar in the front, and we watched as countless people came in, looking for a meal at the Gallery (next door). To say that this spot thrives on confusing people, lol, would be an understatement, but the Hall signature burger? Wow. It was incredible. I loved that it's a small, cozy spot and that they do limit the # of people in that area. Drinks-wise, we just did whisky on the rocks (so good) and ended up chatting quite a bit with the bartender. The Fries were disappointing and not waffle fries as in the picture--just normal fries. The wings are similar to "Korean style", so too sweet for my tastes. Right after I got the check I signed it and the maître d' then came to collect it promptly and took my full drink... so i politely said, "Thank you but I'm not finished with that drink as I just got it". In my head, I'm thinking, the glass is full... pls ask if I'm finished.... This part was understandable but what proceeded was not cool. Not even 5 min later she comes back and reaches for my drink! At that point I put my coat on without finishing my drink. The patties and the steak were seasoned well and juicy. The combo of foie with burger and Miyazaki steak with burger... just wow! This is purely a lunch review. Saw a sign talking about 6 dollar wagyu burgers, and I knew i had to try it. Came in at around 12pm, plenty of seats around. Staff that was there was very attentive as well. But let's talk about the real star of the day. The 6 dollar burger. Just to be clear, 6 dollars is for the burger alone, you can add fries and a drink for 6 dollars more. Do it, the yuzu lemonade is tremendous. The whole meal is worth 12 dollars. The burger is well cooked, has so much flavor and is well seasoned. I got the wagyu burger, and I thought the sauce on the burger sets it apart, adding a depth of flavor like no other. This is a hidden gem. I love this place and came back twice in a week. It's a small restaurant with bar seats and high tops only. It's not a place where you bring your kids, but it's the perfect spot to have a quiet lunch by yourself. I'm 37 weeks pregnant, so I have to order my burger well done. Well done burgers at most places are really tough and dry. This place makes it perfect. It's juicy with the right amount of sauce and seasoning. With 6 more dollars, you can add fries and drink with your burger. I ordered their seasonal soup for $5. It's a chilled corn soup that they offer during summer. It was very light and yummy. Not heavy at all. The portion was smaller than I expected maybe cus it was so good. The Yuzu lemonade is refreshing, which they always offer with the meal. You can get regular soda if you like. Service is always excellent here. The servers/bartenders are always nice and polite. I wish this place is closer to home. I can eat it everyday!!!! read more

This is a tiny cafe like restaurant with a bar and a few tables that only seat 2. I came here for lunch because they have the best deal! A wagyu burger for $6? And it's delicious! You can add fries and the staff is super friendly. I recommended this place to a couple of friends visiting and they loved it! They added a foie gras burger so I will definitely be back to try it. If I worked in the area I would frequent this place often. Just make a note that this is not a great place for groups as the place is small. I would recommend going here to catch up with a friend or two most. They also have teas and cocktails ! read more

We came here for restaurant week and they only had seating outside and we had to order on a tablet inside another restaurant. We decided to get the wagyu beef patty and lobster burger lunch set! The taste was good, but it the patty was on the same level as a decent beef patty, maybe wagyu is just better in steak format? All in all it was decent, but hopefully their menu outside of restaurant week is better. read more

Adorable little place. I'm in a hole-in-the wall looking like a cross between a German hofbrau and a Parisian hideaway listening to jazz and perusing a without-a-doubt Japanese inspired lunch menu (matcha lattes anyone?) Packed at lunch because the price of the lunch is under 10 dollars for a Wagyu burger and fries. However, it's a small burger, about twice the size of a slider and not quite a McDonalds portion of fries. HOWEVER, absolutely delicious, well prepared and worthwhile, and I'm not feeling too heavy afterwards. Plus the little pass-thru window is a must see. read more

This place is adorable and the food is delicious! We stopped in for burgers on a Sunday afternoon. It's small but SO beautiful inside and the staff was super friendly. We tried the wagyu burger, truffle burger and fried chicken. All were delicious and super affordable - including the fries and drink addition. (Get the Yuzu soda!) bonus- they have THE BEST smelling hand soap ever. Can't wait to come back to this lovely spot! read more
