My mom passed away on July 31,2021 and the minute I called Joey he made sure we were OK and immediately took over the arrangements. I was so distraught I couldn't even think but Joey was so kind and helpful and very professional. They treated my family with such kindness and compassion. My mom had passed away but they treated her with love and kindness, they immediately picked her up from the hospital within an hour or so and I felt like my mom was in good hands. I thank Joey for being patient and for helping me make the right decisions. The planning was so easy because Joey made sure no detail was left out. On the day of her service my family was welcomed by the Halley-Olsen-Murphy team with such respect and kindness. We went through Halley Olsen 20 years ago when my mother passed and now with my father. Joey was so amazing! The process went smoothly and he made it very easy. I was given everything I asked for and it was more affordable than I thought. I didn't have a service with them but I did have my dad cremated as he wished. I have heard of places trying to get more money out of you when going through something like this but Joey was nothing like that. He listened to what I wanted and did it. It is amazing how when you call a business that is supposed to be the best in the Antelope Valley and wonder how and why. I understand that this is the business that everyone will dread one day to have a transaction with but it was the time for my family member and I thought that we would be taken care of. I called them early in the morning and a gentlemen called me back and said they would be there within two hours to pick up the remains and it took longer with another person telling me they were ten min away twice and it turned out a half hour. Even the Sheriff deputies were flustered. We had family flying in from areas as far as Canada and other places that needed to make arrangements and I was told that they could not see me until the 21st and it was the 14th. This immediately raised a flag and would have caused a three week delay with scheduling along with any other thing that needed to be done. I am not impressed with you and your process and do not blame Covid on this because I went to a close place where we paid for the whole process and the time and schedule was done quick with integrity. read more

Recently, our family went through Halley-Olsen-Murphy Mortuary when my grandmother passed. From the moment our family entered the mortuary and was greeted by the receptionist to the assistance from the associates - nothing was short of outstanding, epecially Joey. Additionally, the entire staff was professional, compassionate, and when we were in the hot sun in 100+ degree weather at the cemetary- they provided umbrellas for shade and cold water. In a time when you and your family are hit by the sudden passing of a loved one, planning a funeral seems like a to-do list of insurmountably impossible tasks. When my uncle recommended Halley-Olsen after using them less than a year ago to handle his mother's passing, we asked no questions. From the moment we stepped through the door, I knew we were in good hands. The receptionist looked us each in the eyes, offering us sincere condolences...and though I knew this gesture was likely part of the job training, it still made the world of difference. There is a silent understanding in the eyes of those who have experienced the grief of loss, and it was not lost on the employees here. We walked in those front doors like a hurricane going through puberty, but Joey received us with genuine compassion. He personally knew my deceased aunt, though briefly, and his unfeigned reaction to the news made us feel that the pain of our loss was shared. He proceeded to walk us through the most painful experience of our lives with both grace and patience. We even had a few laughs. Joey vigilantly responded to our texts and requests, printing custom cards for us and enduring (with tremendous forbearance!) my every grammatical correction on the online obituary. We wanted to play our own music at the service, and he immediately gave me access to the wifi network. We asked if we could bring artwork, as my aunt was an accomplished painter, to which he responded, "how many easels do you need?" Though nobody ever wants to go through this process, Joey made it clear that this service wouldn't be what we WANTED it to be, but what we NEEDED it to be. The service itself was both wonderful and wonderfully imperfect. The priest from Father Serra could barely speak English, but that was somehow just totally appropriate, as my aunt was not religious and would have laughed at the thought of a Catholic sermon at her funeral. The body that once held my aunt's spirit was done up as a beautiful resemblance of her, based on a reference photo of her I provided Joey with. We were allowed ample time after the service to just hug each other and share stories; never once did we feel rushed to leave. Every detail was handled with care and intention, something I never would have expected would be so important at a time like this until experiencing it personally. Thankfully, Joey already knew how important the details would be to us. If I were to give one criticism, or rather one suggestion, it would be to turn the A/C units off during the service. When they kicked on they were quite loud, drowning out the sound of the timid voices that were attempting to put their grief into words. Overall, I could not recommend this place more. It far surpassed the expectations of funeral parlors that I acquired from watching Six Feet Under, and although the experience of losing a loved one feels as surreal as being in a Salvador Dali painting, Halley-Olsen and Joey helped to shape it into as beautiful of a piece as it could be. Obviously no one wants to look for funeral services. Unfortunately for my family, we had to seek out funeral services. With that said, Joey Alvarez and his team did a great job in helping us go through the entire process. Joey helped us understand everything. from the beginning to the end. Joey listened to what we wanted for our loved one and he delivered what we requested. The place is very clean. They also have a private patio in case you need to step out for some fresh air. It seemed sound proof as well. There was a community gathering a block away with music (it was loud) that couldn't be heard inside the funeral home. The staff, especially Randy Cole, were all attentive and caring. They did everything they could to get my family through the arrangements. From the initial phone contact, to the feeling you get when you step inside the Lancaster location, to our wonderful funeral home arranger, Luis Aguilar, to our kind patient funeral directors, Bruce and Howard, to their aftercare program, the reputation of Halley Olsen Mortuary and Cremation services was spot on. Their funeral packages are reasonable even if a bit more expensive than other local services. But I'm telling you, in this case, you get what you pay for and thus is the place to use if you want a respectful quality funeral experience. Here's the deal -- I have traveled across the US training grief counselors, aftercare staff, chaplains, and funeral home staff how to appropriately support the bereaved. I am constantly impressed by family owned funeral homes particularly those who have applied and sustain accreditation with Selected Funeral Homes. Unfortunately, when my father-in-law died Dec 2016, the next of kin chose a larger corporate funeral home and I was totally disappointed with the lack of compassion and factory approach of funeral arrangers and funeral directors. It was awful. We did our best. Just this past week, my step-father-in-law died, and this time I suggested we search Selected Funeral Homes (none in the area). Then, we searched yelp. When little was written for Lancaster area on yelp, I contacted a colleague at the local hospital who highly recommended Halley Olsen Murphy. Seriously, this was a night a day experience this time with HOM verses the former corporate conglomerate. This place was great!!! The space is pretty and works for a small ceremony or 100-130/150 people. It is clean. It smells comforting. The staff is awesome. The follow up care aftercare program is amazing! They help you with the paperwork and to assess additional resources available to the next of kin. A lot of funeral homes don't have anyone to help you navigate through all of the business after the death of someone close. This is worth more money than words can explain. Granted, we had a few challenges with the microphone sound going in and out during the service but we rolled with it and it all worked out. The most important part was that the immediate family felt that the ceremony was beautiful and very respectful of their loved one. As the person providing oversight to the families service, I loved working with the staff at the funeral home. And I know what I'm talking about. So... I hope you won't need to use them to burry or cremate a loved one. But if you live in this area and need them, don't look elsewhere. Use this funeral home. Note: I have never worked for or with HOM before, I'm just a yelper (and a grief counselor/spiritual counselor) who happens to know what good funeral service is like and what bad service is like. read more

But, what really blew me away, was how Linda B provided outstanding service during this sad time of losing my mom.
