Hotel recommended this place as where locals go. Even though the prices were a little high, they were more reasonable than almost all of the other options within walking distance. I got the Bison Burger in preparation for a game against the Colorado Buffalos. It was terrific. Fries were really good too. Service was fast and friendly. Literally the nicest people in all Keystone. They have several local beers to choose from. Their also very knowledgeable about each one. The best part it's a family owned business. For the kids they have the best 1919 root beer on tap and also in cans. We didn't try the food because the kitchen was closed. However I will definitely stop here again! Our family stopped in for a late lunch after visiting Mount Rushmore and we had a delicious, fast lunch with the best service. All 3 kids ordered the cheeseburger meals with hand cut fries and the portion was more than enough and delicious. I had a bite of the burger and wanted another one, it was so good. We also ordered cheese curds and wings and they disappeared quickly. Everything came out hot and fast and the people working were so kind and friendly. Good family friendly place were the food is reasonably priced. The food is good and great for the price. We got two appetizers, a beer and food/drinks for five for under $50! We are from Wisconsin and the cheese curds were very good. The rest of the wood was good to very good. There is a good selection of local beers including Porters and Stouts which I don't always find. We grabbed a bite to eat after visiting Mt Rushmore. Very friendly staff, but the wait to get food was long (at 1 pm) but it was very busy too. We ordered BLTs, Turkey sandwich and chicken fingers. All combos came with greasy cut fries and fountain drink. I upgraded my fountain drink for a 1918 draft root beer. The root beer was awesome. The food was good. It's hard to mess up a BLT, but this one was really good. The bacon was crispy and the bread was fresh and lightly toasted. The fries were good too. Saw the reviews and menu on Yelp were excited to try it out. Found the correct location on a Sunday at 5pm, however the door was locked. Tried to call and the number went to voicemail. Walked around the other shops and went back to see if it opened. A worker walked out with food and another opened the door and said we're closed. No hours were posted and no explanation as to why they were closed on a peak evening. Even if the food was good, it appears the services is not. read more

A friendly little restaurant. This is at the end of a little strip mall. You are in a tourist town and so prices are inflated but this place was pretty reasonable. We got the pulled pork combo to go. The price was decent in comparison to the many other places in town. The sandwich was pretty good, a little light on the pulled pork side but the combo comes with some pickles and onions for the sandwich, fries and drink. I was able to get a Root Beer that was on tap. It was a good root beer, tasted very similar to an A&W. Fries were a good portion and well cooked. You can also get a scoop of ice cream to go with your meal or buy some other touristy things like t-shirts, mugs and postcards. A fair selection of beers on tap. If you don't want pizza, then I would pick this place over a place down the road. read more

First day in Keystone. Staying at the Roosevelt Inn (also highly recommended) Took a stroll across the street to see where we could get something local and yummy. Ran across Halleys and popped in because their sign said take food and beer available (really take-out beer?) Chatted with the owner who assured me yes indeed they have local beers available. I popped back over at dinner time and order the bison burger deluxe, WI cheese curds and a SD locally brewed cream ale to go. Owner not only remembered me from earlier, but was super friendly even though his tiny place was being slammed with familys bringing in their kids for the dinner hour. Burger, fries and curds were all that i would have hoped for, Could really see kicking back with some of their local brews when it's less busy (but is that ever during tourist season?) Great place to have lunch near Mt Rushmore! My husband and I were directed to an antique shop by Yelp directions and the nice elderly gentleman there told us it's the other Halleys we're looking for, less than mile up the street. We were glad we persisted and made our way to the right place. Owner was super friendly and treated every customer like an old friend. It was a pleasure to experience such genuine hospitality which has become verybrare indeed. Onto the food, which was excellent! Classics done right. We had a 1/2 lb burger and a pulled pork sandwich. The patty was humongous and pulled pork was nicely smoked. Good selection of beers on tap we even bought a bottle of local wine. Hubs really enjoyed his cold mug of local craft beer. Just fabulous! We found this place online because of the great reviews. We were expecting a sit down restaurant but it was more of a hamburger joint where you order at the register. We decided to stay because of the great reviews. There's only a few tables inside but later I realized there were several tables outside on their patio. The food was really good. I had the hamburger with sautéed onions and mushrooms and fries. My husband had pizza. The food was fresh and cooked to order. We watched them make the pizza. They have a 1919 root beer that I tried. Wow! The best root beer I've ever had. The guy that took our order was so kind and friendly. He even offered us a taste of several of the tap beers. All in all I'm so glad we stayed. This is actually a review for the Original Halley's that is located in the old Keystone Trading Company building. We kind of stumbled on the place when we went into the general store across the street. This place is too cool. The food is made on a flattop outside. Definitely get the okayest burger and the cheese curds. The beers are cheap and the bartender was great. Grab a beer and walk around the place and check out all the old stuff.
