    All stalk

I was so looking forwards to this. Been a while since we had gone out to dinner. It was a disappointing. 1st. The prices are considerably higher than what is posted in yelps but I forgot to take a pic of current menu. PR special was $29.75 The only thing that saved this night was our FANTASTIC Waitress. She was wonderful!! Came for the weekly specials and found out the steak and shrimp special was frozen fried shrimp so i did a sandwich. Prime dip sandwich. I think it is supposed to be prime rib sandwich but it looked like pre packaged "roast beef" microwave and put on a bun. Under the meat was two slices of "Swiss cheese" which looked like the type of cheese that comes individually wrapped in plastic. Was told it is American Swiss I had broccoli and it was a dish of stalks with a Sprigs of green on top. It was tasteless and extremely tough Hubby had prime rib it was okay, he ordered it Medium Rare and it came out Rare. But we accepted that. Better than over done. It had a lot of grizzle and wasn't enjoyable. The best thing we did was order tots. lol. They were very good and this tracked with the type of place this should be vs what it is trying to be. Be prepared to hear some f bombs dropped at the near by tables. We actually don't mind atmosphere like this if we are sitting at the bar with locals etc. But this was at the tables. We love local places, generally find them to be great. This was not. The waitress. Is what saved this from being one star!

Home made bread pudding with caramel sauce

Great local place for dinner opens at 4 had the chicken fried steak with mash potatoes and gravy let me tell you the chicken fried steak was great good crust local raised beef and boy was it tender the mashed potatoes were on point simply delicious. Service was great. The bread pudding dessert was the bomb I highly recommend lazy R if you want a great meal at a fair price.

Steak tips, tater tots and texas toast
    Brendon+Lily ..

While the service was a littleeee slow and we waited a good 45 minutes for our food, it was very much worth the wait. I ordered steak tips and tater tots and they both came out perfect. The steak tips were super flavorful and my tater tots were cooked just right. My mom's tater tot's were slightly over cooked. Lily ordered a fresh burger that was delightful. She also got the home style fries and they were wonderfully seasoned and flavorful. Overall highly recommend!!

Food and service was good. Atmosphere was nothing fancy. Table next to us had some obnoxious people.

I ordered the prime rib special & a drink. The drink was not good. The prime rib was hard to cut & not much flavor.

We started our evening at Sear Steakhouse with some excellent drinks. The thyme mocktail was crisp…read moreand refreshing, and my husband's old-fashioned was fragrant and well-balanced, complete with a perfect bada bing cherry. His only note was a preference for a single large ice cube rather than crushed, but overall the bar clearly knows what it's doing. The appetizers set a great tone. Warm sourdough was fresh and comforting. I enjoyed the bright, crisp house salad, while my husband's pumpkin soup was silky, savory, and perfectly seasonal. We both ordered the 7-ounce filet mignon, and the kitchen truly delivered! His medium-rare was tender and juicy with a beautiful sear, and my medium-well was still succulent--proof of precise cooking. They have an outstanding variety of cool, reasonably priced side dishes. My husband was excited about the Queen's honey carrots which were tender and flavorful (though the honey glaze was very subtle) and the creamy mashed potatoes that are part of the steak dish, were nicely executed. I didn't realize my filet came with mashed potatoes underneath, so I ordered a loaded, baked potato as my side, and ended up with extra potato (which I'm not complaining about whatsoever lol). We also enjoyed the whiskey cream sauce with mushrooms, which added a gentle smoky creamy richness, and the onion soubise, which was pure sweet comfort. Dessert was a highlight, as we celebrated my husband's birthday - we ordered all three featured desserts: The crème brûlée had a perfectly crackled top and smooth vanilla bean custard, the flourless chocolate dessert was deeply rich with espresso notes, and the butter cake was the total star - warm, moist, and decadently buttery. Each dessert was excellent in its own way, but that perfectly sinful butter cake stole the show! The atmosphere was inviting--warm wood tones, comfortable booths, well-balanced lighting, and enough TVs near the bar to keep my sports fan husband happy. Service was friendly and pleasant, though we found ourselves wishing for a bit more attentiveness. With a very quiet dining room, very early in the evening (we had a 4 PM reservation), there were moments when water refills lagged and opportunities for wine suggestions went unoffered (and we were definitely wanting to order some red with our steaks, but gave up because by the time there was an opportunity, we were finished with our steaks). We also briefly looked into the small private dining room on our way through the bar, and while we were greeted politely by one of the employees who was sitting in there, it felt like they missed the perfect opportunity to highlight the space for potential events. That said, nothing detracted significantly from the experience--it was simply a matter of polish. A touch more proactive engagement could elevate an already strong offering into something exceptional. Overall, Sear Steakhouse delivered an enjoyable and memorable evening. The food, drinks, and desserts are clearly strengths, and with just a little added focus on service flow and guest engagement, this restaurant has all the makings of a true standout in Rapid City. We look forward to returning and trying new things!

I'm really torn on this review because I've only been to Sear Steakhouse twice, and the experiences…read morewere completely different. The first visit was for a work event in the back room (not sure if that made a difference), and it was outstanding. The food was cooked to perfection--my steak literally melted in my mouth, and the sides were hot and delicious. I couldn't stop raving about it afterward. The second visit, after talking it up to my family, was a letdown. They were busy, and maybe that played a role, but it just wasn't the same. My steak was mediocre, and my husband was genuinely confused why I had claimed it was one of the best steaks I'd had in a long time. Unfortunately, when it comes to restaurants, the bad tends to outweigh the good. We haven't been back, and I can't justify the price tag when there are other great steak options in town. I know places can have off days, and maybe that's what happened--but I'm not willing to return to find out.

It's also a great change from the typical burger and sandwich restaurants which are popular in the area. Unfortunately, it turned into one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we've had. The evening started with a confusing interaction with the hostess, who walked away from us and then acted as though she had already told us to follow her. Our server, Sig, made things worse. We were a party of six, including our family friend's mother, who has ALS, and his attitude was abrasive, argumentative, and anything but welcoming. When my wife ordered the roasted chicken, he responded, "You ordered the worst thing on the menu." That's simply not how guests should be treated. I ordered the $72 Tatanka Filet, medium, but it arrived well done. When I pointed it out, the explanation I received was that "toward the end of the night the grill is hot." At that price, I expected an apology and an offer to correct it, not an excuse. Even at the end of the meal, the service remained poor. When we asked for to-go boxes, Sig reached across the table and passed them directly in front of our faces instead of handing them to us courteously. Everyone can have an off night, but what disappointed us most was that no one acknowledged the issues or attempted to make things right. For a restaurant with Dakota Steakhouse's reputation and prices, we expected excellent hospitality. Instead, we left feeling unwelcome and disappointed. Unfortunately, we would not return or recommend it based on this experience.
