Went here when passing through Petaluma and selected it based on positive and clearly misinformed Yelp reviews. Walked in, sat in a booth. Ambience is basic low budget diner, nothing particularly cute, cozy or special about it. The two middle aged women working there (owners, maybe?) were strangely unfriendly. Food took forever to arrive. Bread on sandwiches was waaaay overtoasted, and one person's was actually burnt. Days later the roof of my mouth is still torn up. They don't have french fries. WTF? It's a DINER. Weirdest thing ever. You have to have home fries. Ridiculous. How much can a deep fryer possibly cost?? So of course that means no onion rings either. Bathrooms were in need of attention, toilet paper all over the floor. Janky. I will not be going back and cannot recommend. read more

We stumbled across little gem while looking for another diner! Couldn't find it - so we stopped here. The Corn Pancakes with Cajun Sausage were terrific - while my Wife had Blueberry Pancakes which was also very good. The coffee and Service were right on spot. Old Diner in an old town. When we asked the waiter what plantain souffle is, he mentioned that it will take around 35 - 45 min to prepare as they have to make everything from the scratch. Love love love this breakfast spot! Small little joint; be prepared for a long wait. Don't be picky on the tables; get what is available. Total diner feel with that casual, laid back atmosphere. We sat at the counter and next to us, was a Petaluma local who shared the story of the owners. He must be a reg since he knew the employees by their first name and they knew him by his. A one-of-a-kind local treasure. They kept it small for a reason - to serve quality food. I sense there is a latin influence behind their menu with their offerings of chorizo, plantains, beans, etc. They are known for their plantain souffled pancakes but I was really craving for the cinnamon french toast. Hubby ordered the breakfast meal with chorizo. My french toast was piping hot, fluffy, with just enough sweetness between the cinnamon, powdered sugar and syrup. Infact, I could have eaten my toast without the syrup. No complaints from the hubby - he came first in the clean plate's contest! My friends moved to Petaluma about two years ago, and I finally just got up there to visit last weekend. They gave me the grand tour of the town, complete with useful trivia, and then we went to Hallie's for brunch. We waited perhaps 10-15 minutes. Our waitress was very friendly and prompt. Our water was refilled a number of times, and we got our check in a timely manner. But let's talk about the food, shall we? Good gravy, it was fantastic! I got the Latin Scramble, one of my friends got the Salmon scramble, and my other friend got the avocado and black bean omelet. The Latin scramble just might be the best egg concoction I have ever tasted. Eggs scrambled with tons of cheese, salsa (possibly something else) and tortilla chips! The chips add a great texture and awesome taste. Serious yummy goodness. I tried a bite of Jaq's omelet, and it was great, too. My OJ was some sort of fresh squeezed variety, and it was so refreshing. The only thing lacking for me were the home fries. I love me some potatoes, but these were pretty bland, and not crispy. I would have had to put tons of salt on them to make them tasty, and I would have rather they just season them whilst cooking, you know? If I lived in Petaluma, I would come here all the time. A few weeks back a good friend who always has a way with words said to me that the one thing he wishes for me is to grow organically. He said that while I'm pretty self aware and know my strengths and weaknesses, his hope for me would be that I would take some time to discover the small things in life that make me happy. Brunch is one of those things. Bacon is another. This place is a gem. It was worth braving the rain and wetness to cozy up to the counter for some comforting food. I had the eggs petaluma with spinach which was delicious. It's a whole lot of food but luckily I came with a friend with a hearty appetite. Unluckily, he's a vegetarian so I had no one to help me with my massive side of bacon. I've never had leftover bacon before - it's blasphemy!!! Service was good - though we did sit at the counter so it made the staff very accessible. Breakfast this morning here showed me that Hallie's has slid downward since my previous review. The interior looks disheveled and a bit dingy. The Beatles posters are wrinkling and fading. There's a mess behind the counter for all diners to see. My Maya tipico dish was resolutely mediocre. A Denny's Grand Slam would have been more delicious. So Petaluman's in the know, what's happened? New owners? A key employee exited? It shows all around. read more

We were in a hurry when we reached Hallie's Diner for a late lunch - and so were they as it was just before three and they were about to close! We were on our way to see a TWiT podcast during our Cali trip, and in dire need of a spot nearby - and this place was perfect! Our waitress was amazing, telling us which meals would get us out the door quick enough to make it to the show. Much to my chagrin (as I really wanted to try the corned beef hash that is so well-reviewed here), she informed me it would be too late to order that - show or no show, as it takes a while to make. Redemption came in the form of beef fajita tacos. While they were much fattier than I typically like, the flavor of the beef was terrific, as was the whole half-avocado I was given. The black beans were killer, and the small amount of salsa (I asked for more) was delicious as well. It comes with a small amount of chutney, which isn't my thing but was done well. Needless to say, my husband didn't mind scarfing that down. Theron ordered a turkey cheese burger which he very much enjoyed. It came with a nice sized side salad, vinegar onions, and a pickle (yum!) We had to bust a move and eat fast, but it was definitely a great spot and we seriously lucked out with that awesome waitress as well. What's more - Petaluma is an adorable town. I hope to visit again and spend a little more time there. read more

Just missed the Breakfast hour, so dove in to lunch. First let me say, the place is super clean, quite large and the server was really nice and engaging and was very attentive in a quiet sort of way. I tried the Reuben ($11.95) which was very plentiful and yummy, the Corned Beef nice and juicy, toasted just right and not greasy. They went light on the "dressing" which was o.k., then I could ask for more "on the side". Instead of fries (which I Love) or salad, I went for the homemade Split Pea Soup which was nice and thick (not watery) with plenty of ham hock flavor and a few floating peas in the mix. Very satisfying indeed. Certainly a place I would return to for a nice home cooked meal, great service and reasonably priced. read more

What a great little diner that we came up on while driving through the area. Had breakfast here recently on the way to San Francisco from Sonoma. It's a small diner, and there was a 10 minute wait at 8:45am on a Saturday morning. There is free parking across the street in the parking garage too. It was a good choice to stop here, as all the food was tasty. I tried the Petaluma Eggs. They were tasty eggs with that was smothered in their own sauce that was very lemony. I loved it, and it was really delicious. My co-worker tried it as well and loved it too. Not what I would usually order, but I was so glad I did. Also had a taste of the pancakes, and they were good. Just off the 101, a good diner to stop by and have breakfast. read more

Comfy old diner with leatherette booths and excellent breakfast and lunch egg dishes, pancakes and the like. The biggest surprise is their oatmeal, which is cooked with chopped apples and milk-- delicious! Unlike truly old-fashioned diners, the coffee is good and you can even get espresso. read more

Hands down one of the best breakfast places I have been to. Old school diner-red booth seating, and swivvle chairs at the counter. Great home made food. Started with the potato pancake. Which is made to order and comes with sour cream and home made Apple sauce. This dish was absolute perfection. The perfect crispy texture with the soft potato center. It wasn't dense like most potato pancakes, it was nice and thin giving the cake the perfect consistency. The home made Apple sauce was out of this world and the sour cream was the perfect compliment. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. I also tried the Maya- black beans, sunny side up eggs, plantains with red and mango salsas. Truly amazing. If you're looking for a hearty diner meal and endless coffee, stop looking and pull into Hallie's. We were lucky enough to beat the morning rush on Valentine's Day; this place sure seems popular. Waitstaff were really friendly, and they seem to host a lot of locals. It was really hard to decide what to get, because the yelp reviews will tell you that most everything is delicious. I had the cajun sausage/egg/pancake combo -- the cornmeal pancakes are SO GOOD; and just the right size that you don't leave feeling like youve overeaten. When you can get into this crazy popular restaurant, the food is fabulous. The premises are authentic 50's decor. The food is eclectic. Today I had the "summer salad" with Bibb lettuce, candied walnuts, feta cheese, orange slices, tiny tomatos, and vinegarete dressing. Wonderful. I have tried to come here on a Sunday morning after church, and the line is out the door; that is high praise for a casual breakfast place. I love their menu and need to work my way through it. This is Americana at its best! Small town friendliness, and homemade homey home-style foods... Only better than eating at home! The line out front is a sure sign of the quality within, it moves pretty quickly, and you might even meet some friends from town. Oatmeal! The doctor says that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that we should all be eating oatmeal to lower our cholesterol ... and Hallie's makes sure you're satisfied, and warmed, and healthy with a deliciously simple bowl of rolled oats-oatmeal! Soooo comforting on a chilly (or what passes for chilly 'round here) morning. OK.... so all the doctors have, by now, scrolled happily on to another review...so, it's just us here now... let's move on the the guilty pleasures! Hallie's grants us some wonderfully naughty breakfast pleasures...like Grandma slipping you a fiver when Mom's not looking. My ulterior motive for going to Hallie's is always the cornmeal pancakes. They're fluffy inside, a little crispy around the edges, and the perfect delivery system for butter and a little real maple syrup! I'm a fanatic for true Corned Beef Hash. Here they make it pretty darn well. A good amount of corned beef, fresh made potatoes, and scallions on top for fresh flavor. I get it with a poached egg and let the yolk be a richly wonderful sauce. The eggs are fresh and rich, you're in Petaluma after all! The sandwiches are plenty, as well. Philly Cheesesteak, Rueben, and my favorite ... Patty Melt on Rye (Yes! They have chewy New York Rye!) I get bacon and grilled onions on it ... and I'm instantly transported back home to my favorite Hackensack Diner! If only they would get Taylor Ham on a Roll on the menu... Yo, Vin-ny! Hallie's adds a few fancy touches just so you know you're in California. They have Huevos Rancheros, Crab Benedict, fresh Blueberry Pancakes, and Eggplant Sandwich on a roll. Their are iconic places in your home town and this is one of them in Petaluma. It is a great diner with great service and it offers all the typical diner style food with a local flair. Their corn beef hash is home made and today I had the Greek omelette which was good - although I found the portion of potatoes lacking. My wife had the a black bean and avocado omelette which looked great and she told me the same. I would like to see bigger glasses for water as they are quite small and had to be filled a few times - although it was done in a timely fashion. However all in all it is a great place to eat and if you want to go here on the weekends - you better be prepared to wait as it is quite popular. read more

Hallie's was one of the first restaurants we ever tried after moving to Petaluma from NY a few years ago. We instantly fell in love! Hallie's offers a wide variety of choices for both breakfast and lunch along with daily specials that are really delicious and served in generous portions by a great waitstaff. I personally recommend their Huevos (black beans are never mushy and they're generous with the cheese!), Eggs Petaluma topped with a well balanced lemon sauce. (You can choose a ham or spinach bed - I always choose both and highly recommend it!), Salmon Scramble with lots of salmon, any soup they make, and a yummy cheeseburger are some of my other top recommendations. My husband adores the Avocado Black Bean scramble. I've tasted it so I see why. Even though we are 'foodies', we believe that a place's ambiance is at least as important as the food. That's a big reason we continue to eat at Hallie's. The space is small but comfortable and very well laid out, always very clean, and often has lovely small vases of fresh flowers on every table. (A nice touch, especially first thing in the morning when you come in for breakfast.) Everyone who works there, including the owner, Jennifer, are kind, thoughtful, efficient and genuinely friendly, creating a uniquely charming, fun space. At the moment, restaurants in California are closed except for take out or delivery and people are staying home. We were getting stir-crazy and heard that Hallie's was offering take-out! So yesterday we checked the menu online - all items were available), called and placed our order, even paid over the phone. So smooth. We picked up our breakfasts (I assume you can guess what we ate), came home, took our food outside to the deck and had a wonderfully easy, delicious and fun breakfast! The food was packaged minimally in recyclable containers and tasted like it had just come from the kitchen. It was SO easy and satisfying. I recommend their takeout. read more

I Absolutley adore this little joint! Fun fact back in the day this place used to be an old ice cream shop anyways let's get to the nitty gritty! The breakfast menu is for people who like their food with a twist for example they have a plate that's called eggs Petaluma it's like eggs Benedict yet instead of typical Hollandaise sauce it's a thyme lemon herb garlic butter sauce it's so delicious and different. They also have a Latin scramble that is very good, the skillet with your choice of meat also the French toast is rock-in!! I'm pretty sure she gets the bread from a specific local bakery. Also they have fresh squeezed orange juice and a full coffee bar. It is a right bitch place locals come here with there family and early! But they do close by 2 and they are typically patched until then so I would expect a 10-15 min wait. They do have options at the bar to eat which is just as cozy as a booth. Everyone who works there has worked there for a long time and are friendly and very attentive! Never had a bad meal here not bad service! Highly recommend! read more

I've been here more than a handful of times but it has never really been on my list of favourites, regardless of the fact that my husband swears by this place. This weekend I learned that it was just because I hadn't been ordering the right thing. The french toast is my usual, and it's delicious, but also on par with most of the other french toast in town. Enter the salmon/green onion/cream cheese scramble. Maybe it's my recent obsession with the seafood and cream cheese combo or maybe I just now found the spot-hitting item on the menu, but my meal was delicious and filling! The restaurant was clean and service was prompt, granted we were the first people there. The coffee was fresh and tasty. I ordered the herb and cheese omelette with a homemade muffin and it was amazing. My fiancé ordered the avocado, black bean and fresh salsa omelette with chicken apple sausage and per my fiancé "they did not skimp out on the meat". Hallie's never disappoints. The food is spectacular and the service is always top notch, regardless of how busy they are. When ordering breakfast at other restaurants, I usually don't eat the potatoes because they are almost always overcooked or old and dried out. The potatoes at Hallie's are perfect and so good. Thir omelets are amazing, their blueberry pancakes are loaded with fresh blueberries, and their Huevos Rancheros plate is breakfast perfection. I do not understand why the tea house or della fattoria barely open which are my preferences. We just came out of a panDermic and apparently all restaurants are short on help. We were staying in town for a wedding and decided to stop in for a late brunch. Ordered both of the eggs specials on the menu, the Hallies Benedict and the Chuy's Huevos Mexicans. We both agreed that this was one of the best breakfasts we'd had and we are quite the breakfast eaters....Everything from the incredible crispy breakfast potatoes to the buttered & toasted English muffin on the side was incredible. I ordered a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice and it was just perfect. It was quite a busy Saturday and I am so thankful to the staff for making our experience so great despite the crowd they were also tending to. What a great spot to go to after a scenic ride through Napa and Sonoma. A true old-style diner atmosphere without being kitchy. The service was very good, the service warm and friendly, and the blueberry pancakes chock full of fresh fruit. I've never written a review on Yelp before, but I wanted other customers to know about my experience. We had breakfast at Hallie's (delicious, the cornmeal pancakes were 10/10). But what has made me a customer for life is what happened when I left my sweatshirt at the restaurant on accident. I was an hour away from the restaurant when I realized it so I called to ask if they could set the shirt aside. They were closing at 2-so I didn't have time to get back-and I was flying back to DC that night. So one of the servers volunteered to take my sweatshirt over to the nearby market. She got in touch with someone there. Called me to let me know who I could contact and I was able to get the shirt. I know it seems simple, but that was so above and beyond. I was so appreciative. This restaurant has added outdoor seating with shade in its parking lot, which is adjacent to the road, but still ok. (There is a handy parking garage on the other side of the road.) We got a table straight away but had to wait 40 mins for food. However it was worth the wait. We had the special eggs Benedict which was very good - tasty, good size portion without being overwhelming - and the frittata, also good. Friendly staff. Clean restrooms. read more

While spending our Saturday downtown Petaluma and taking Christmas pictures, the time had come to find a place to eat. Our original pick was closed for a holiday party. I had remembered walking past a cute looking diner so we turned around and headed to what ended up being Hallie's Diner. The diner is small but still fits a good number of people. We were shocked at how busy they were at 2 in the afternoon! I ordered the breakfast burrito and a mocha. The mocha was delicious, especially on a cold day. My breakfast burrito was easily one of the best I have had. At first I thought it looked a little small but it was perfectly filling. The proportions of everything inside were perfect. Dan had the Philly Cheesesteak and said it was alright but the salad that came along with it was outstanding! We will be back to Hallie's as the food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. Traditional diner food, but portions were super tiny--my breakfast burrito was so small, and fell apart at the first bite! Potatoes were okay.
