    Crab chowder

I can't believe I've never written a review for here, we've been enjoying the food here for many years! Enjoying is actually an understatement. The food is fabulous! The crab chowder is amazing! The pastries are incredible. The owner Stephanie is a very talented baker/chef. It's a very cozy French cafe, always busy but always delicious and with good service. I'm so sad that Stephanie has decided to retire and close the cafe. But happy for her, it's a well deserved retirement!

    Many seating options here

I had another fabulous meal & experience here today. The bistro was the most crowded I've seen it in a long time, however Stephanie was so great at multitasking & patient with the customers I have to applaud her. The ambience of the restaurant is simply charming with many French accents throughout. I had one of the best quiches ever - so light & fluffy with spinach & feta. My friend loved her eggplant sandwich. And the complimentary bread is consistently delicious (served with real butter). The one and only issue was the salad dressing on my spinach salad. It was so incredibly sour I was unable to eat it. And I really wanted to. My friend tasted the dressing and completely agreed. I mentioned it to a staff person but he didn't say anything. It won't stop me from coming back, I can assure you!

The sweetest owners, the best desserts and quiche! My grandma and I have been coming here for years and we absolutely love it. We're never disappointed. It has a beautiful view of the Petaluma River and an authentic French bistro feel. I always get a mocha and a slice of bacon and swiss quiche. I highly recommend Water Street Bistro to anyone in the area!

I LOVE THIS PLACE! It has been one of my favorites for decades. I'm embarrassed that I took so long to recognize them. I've been going here since they opened 24 years ago. Stephanie and her crew are in an elite class. A huge range of regular sandwiches, salads, and delicious soups, complimented by a rotating host of daily specials make this place an easy choice. The dishes are always beautifully prepared and delicious. Pastries amazing, and they use Taylor coffees at the espresso bar. I really feel this is one of the most special places in Petaluma. It's at the top of my list of recommendations in Petaluma. Water Street Bistro is my home away from home. If you haven't been - put it at the top of your list.

If you're looking for a place to go, that's cute and quaint and great service, this is it! Food and the service is fantastic here. It's definitely a local hangout. The inside is decorated really cute. Their baked items are to die for but you have to get there early they sell out fast. (Try the almond cookies). My husband had their waffles and I tried the quiche with asparagus and Parmesan. Delicious!. We are definitely going to go back and try their lunch menu. Can't wait!!

What a lovely place for brunch or lunch! We came here to celebrate Bastille Day and enjoy le lunch with French food. It was perfect! I love that they have outdoor seating with French touches. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. Along with their regular menu, they also have a specials menu. Make sure you leave room for dessert because there are lots of baked goods to choose from. For lunch we ordered: Pâté de Campagne - delicious delicious delicious!! Served with rustic bread, mustard, cornichons, olives and a small salad Crab Chowder - creamy and decadent Niçoise Salad - beautifully prepared, lightly dressed and loaded with tuna Smoked Duck, Peaches and Marcona Almonds Salad - What an amazing salad! The smoked duck was perfection! The peaches were super sweet! I'd order this one again!

So difficult to find a place to meet a local friend have a bite and a cup of joe with COVID restrictions. Sir Winston was getting groomed nearby at our grooming spot. And so was our friends "Poppy". So she suggested we grab either a savory or sweet snack here since she already spied our "four-bucks" cups nestled in the Whips cup holders. Everything baked in house. The staff and locals tried to mingle and process orders as socially distanced as possible. Bae ordered a macaroon dipped in chocolate and the muffuletta, because our friend did too. Not the Nawlins version I'm used to but man it was an inch thick with alternating ham cheese turkey and both sides of the crunchy roll has a generous spread of olive tapenade on both sides. Came with side of greens and dressing. We split the Sami and the macaroon. There are a number of benches right outside on the river that provided a sweet spot embibe. Some folks brought their own chairs. This is a obviously a "thing" to do here in Petaluma. A quaint and delicious way to engage COVID responsibly on a beautiful Day by the river in Petaluma.

So far we have tried a few different dishes. For appetizers, we had PÂTÉ EN CROÛTE AUX CHAMPIGNONS D'HIVER and ESCARGOTS AND MARROW BONE. My husband was a huge fan of the marrow bone. He said it was rich in flavor and had a buttery/creamy texture. For entrees, my husband ordered the WAGYU STEAK FRITES BEARNAISE and I got the Moules-frites featuring steamed mussels served with French fries. The Wagyu steak was slightly more cooked than we would have preferred, but other than that, it was juicy and seasoned well. My Moules-frites were AMAZING! The mussels were sweet, tender, and perfectly cooked, and the broth they were served in was absolutely out of this world. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Plus, we got some Della Fattoria bread with our meal, which is always a nice touch. For desserts, we tried: CHOCOLATE FONDANT - Brigitte Sea Salt Caramel Ice Cream: a perfect balance between rich chocolate and sweet, salty caramel. PISTACHIO TIRAMISU TABLE SIDE was the best! It was incredibly creamy, with a rich mascarpone filling and a wonderful pistachio flavor. And ILE FLOTTANTE (FLOATING ISLAND): the meringue practically melted in my mouth. It was light, creamy, sweet, and had a salty note that made it perfectly balanced. The service is incredible. Every single employee is welcoming, kind, smiling, and attentive. The owner is always nearby, making sure everything is running smoothly and taking the time to greet and check on guests. The restaurant is pretty small, so I would definitely advise you to make a reservation. It gets packed really quickly, and we have seen multiple parties waiting outside for the next available table. The parking lot is also on the smaller side, so one of the times we were here, we had to park up the street. I would 100% recommend this restaurant. Every time we crave French food, Brigitte Bistro is where we go!

The service was outstanding from start to finish, but what really impressed me was seeing Chef/Owner Tony Najiola actively overseeing every aspect of the operation. He visited tables, checked on guests, and was clearly involved in every detail of the dining experience. That's something you rarely see anymore, especially from a restaurant owner who has been doing this for more than two decades, and it deserves to be applauded. Everything we ordered was fantastic. The shoestring zucchini was a great starter, the lobster risotto was rich and perfectly prepared, and the Testarossa pizza was absolutely outstanding. Pairing it all with a Pliny the Elder made for a perfect Sonoma County dinner. Central Market isn't just a great restaurant, it's the kind of place that reminds you why locally owned restaurants matter. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Petaluma.

This review reflects my experience with the restaurant's gift card process and, more specifically,…read morethe lack of communication, follow-through, and accountability from owner Tony Najiola over the course of several months. This review is not a reflection of the restaurant's food, service, or dining experience. In November 2025 I purchased a $150 gift card through Central Market's website via Toast. The gift card was never received. I first reached out in February 2026 to inquire about the missing gift card. Tony responded the following day suggesting that I may have been scammed. After I clarified that the purchase was made directly through Central Market's website, he acknowledged that he had misunderstood, stated that this was a known issue, and told me he would contact Toast to investigate. March 2026: A month passed with no update whatsoever. I called the restaurant and spoke with Tony directly. He told me that I would need to contact Toast myself--a completely different answer from what had previously been discussed. April 2026: I informed Tony via email that Toast's customer service system specifically states that support is intended for restaurant businesses, not customers. I followed up again by email on 4/30 asking if he had received my message and whether there was any update. I have received no response since. What is most disappointing is the lack of clarity and consistency throughout this process. At various points, I was told I may have been scammed, then told it was a known issue that would be investigated, and finally told to resolve it myself through a company that does not provide support to customers in this situation. Not once was there a proactive update, clear explanation, or meaningful attempt to resolve the issue. More than five months after paying $150, I still do not have the gift card (which was intended as a Christmas present for a close friend), a refund, or even the courtesy of a response to my follow-up emails. When a business takes a customer's money, there should be some level of accountability when something goes wrong. At this point, I can only conclude that customer service is not a priority. The complete lack of communication and follow-through has left me feeling that my concerns--and my business--simply do not matter. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution others against purchasing gift cards through their website.

We were going to order only 1 churro but the server offered that the churros are gluten free so we ordered two orders! The menu doesn't say this, so FYI. They were one of the best potato preparations I've ever had. Shockingly fluffy and light inside literally like a potato cloud. Maybe the cheese helps with this? I don't know but get them. Salad was good, nice mix of greens. A little wet for my taste if I'm choosing but I'm also not complaining, it was yummy. The potatoes were a perfect dish to come with the salad since otherwise it didn't have a crunch element. This is the first time I've gotten the collar and it was as meaty as it is. I've ordered at other restaurants before and it was not as successful of a dish as here. Loved the sauce and flavors on it. It was kinda sticky due to the sauce but I mean that in a good way, to add to the flavor and overall balance of texture and flavor The snapper lettuce wraps were also yummy! Kind of laborious to get the fish to eat ready but worth the effort, same with the collar too, but also worth the "work" to get the meat off the bones. The snapper has a lot of pin bones but otherwise really yummy bite. The rock wall in the alley creates a whole vibe with the lights and such. It is also one of the oldest walls in Petaluma, which is pretty cool. Slim menu but excellent. The restaurant is tiny, like 6 tables. Being on the patio was nice, more room. Our meal split 4 ways was delicious and filling but also light and sat well in our bellies. I'd absolutely come back again.

I originally had a reservation in May but unfortunately had to cancel it. Since then, I've tried every month to rebook for June, July, August, and now September. Every time, I'm logged in and refreshing the page before reservations open at noon on the last Friday of the month. Within seconds, every table disappears. I've successfully booked reservations at restaurants that are widely considered just as difficult--if not more difficult--to get into, including Atomix and The French Laundry. I've never experienced anything this impossible on any reservation platform. Whether it's bots, technical issues, extremely limited inventory, or another factor, the process doesn't feel transparent or accessible to genuine diners. If most reservations are being allocated to Stone Edge Farm guests or through other channels, it would be helpful to communicate that clearly so people aren't spending months trying for tables that were never realistically available. I'm sure the restaurant is exceptional, but the reservation experience leaves a lot to be desired. I hope the team and Tock will consider making the process more transparent and fair for everyone.
