Charming diner with great service and excellent food (country skillet scramble with cajun sausage). I also ordered a side of cornmeal pancakes; they were good but it was an eyes-bigger-than-stomach situation. I have one nit that probably is not fixable: the parking area is very small. Though there is a large public parking garage across the street, it wasn't an option for a person like me who has limited mobility. I circled the block a few times until a space opened up. Had breakfast here with my daughter--it was great! My favorite dish is the Maya Tipico, which they still serve after all these years! It comes with fried plantains, poached eggs, savory beans, soft tortillas and sour cream. Our cappuccinos were excellent and the orange juice is delightfully fresh. Prices are reasonable, service is good, and there is always a line of people waiting to eat here! The outdoor seating in a former parking lot adds a nice dimension, although it could use a bit of beautification. Hopefully they'll get to it! read more

I had to stop by since I share a name with the diner and it's got decent ratings. The diner is quaint and cozy with a classic vibe. I was seated immediately and taken care of quickly. The 3 different staff members I interacted with were all very friendly. They worked as a team to serve everyone. There are tables, booths, and a bar to sit at. I really enjoyed the fresh cut flowers at each table. There were different arrangements too, it was a nice touch. I ordered the egg and sausage special and it was quite tasty. The coffee was a bit weak, but not bad. After taxes it came to just over $20, so a little on the pricier side, but not outrageous. If I was a local I'd probably be a frequent customer. read more

What a quaint place. This little breakfast spot in downtown Petaluma has some good eats. I had the Eggs Petaluma, which almost sounds like Eggs Benedict, but the sauce is cream based with oregano. I must say, very good without the heaviness of a Benedict. My wife had the 3 egg omelet. She stated it was so light and airy. This a good meal with fair pricing. This hoppin' diner was highly recommended by a friend, so we popped in for some brunch. We waited about 5 minutes for a table. Once seated our server seemed a bit annoyed that I couldn't hear her through her mask and the noise of a full house. She also was somewhat snarky to my dining guest about the size of their juice cups. After ordering we waited about a half hour for our food, which was delivered by a new very sweet server. My guest had to ask this server for her beverage that never made it to the table from the previous gal when we first ordered. The food was hot and pretty tasty. Hallies is one of our favorite breakfast/ brunch spots. There is usually a wait time on weekends for good reason. I have no issue waiting for a table at Hallies Yum! We always feel welcome and cared for. There are usually fresh roses on the table and there is always service with a smile. I love the Greek Omelet with a side of avocado with fruit. The fruit is always a masterpiece and so delicious! Some mornings I go for a big ole hot cocoa with a mound of whipping cream on top and others it's just a cup of joe to get me going. In our world Hallies is exceptional for having corn meal pancakes, potato pancakes, and chicken apple sausage. All three of these are on the gout diet in small amounts. I love having this choice and will continue to eat here for years to come. Always a 5 star experience. read more

If you're in a hurry and don't have time to read the rest of my review, Hallie's is good, but Sax's Joint, which is a 3-5 minute drive from here, is still the best breakfast place in Petaluma. Anyway, you're here for a review on Hallie's, not Sax's, so here you go: When it came to service, I wasn't impressed, although I do think if we became regulars it might have been a little different... I noticed that the staff here knew some of the customers by name and that's super cool. But they didn't care so much about us... the food came out plenty fast (I'm mentioning this because other reviewers had issues with the food taking a long time) but our waitress didn't check in at all how it was going. The hostess was friendlier than our waitress for sure. My short stack of blueberry pancakes were good, and had plenty of blueberries. Not exactly sure what my boyfriend ordered but I've attached a picture for your viewing pleasures. He liked his food too. It was good, although real jam out of a jar vs Smuckers Single Serve jams would have been appreciated. And the coffee? Both regular and decaf were good... thank you for not giving up on me just because I ordered decaf haha! I feel like I'm using the word good too much... well, that's why they get 4 stars, not 5. Nothing was "excellent" or "amazing" in any way. But better than "OK" so... "good!" Because I'm very value-conscious (the kindest way to say I'm "cheap") I like to mention the price to portion size ratio... well we got out of here for about $30 before tip. Very reasonable for two people, although Sax's gives you larger portions for barely more money. In conclusion, next time Sax's has an excessive wait time we'll come here again. Went there for the first time today - it's ok but won't rush back. It's small, cute and very diner-ish - that's cool. The staff was very helpful and friendly - that's cool. The food was just ok - nothing special and in one case, just not good. My friend had the 3 fish taco special - the fish was tasty but the sauce was lacking, she asked for salsa which they happily brought but without it, the tacos would have been just so-so at best. I had the biscuits and gravy which I have seldom but love, having lived in the South for 20 years. The biscuits were hard and tasted like globs of dough. The amount of gravy was small, maybe absorbed by the biscuits. It was very disappointing. The eggs cooked over medium were prefectly done and the hash browns were ok but nothing special. So, we weren't as satisfied as others - but try it, you might like it better than we did. read more

How have I never found this place before? Oh yeah, I don't live in Petaluma, so breakfast is rarely there. On this day, we dropped our daughter off at Cinnabar for a rehearsal, and looked for somewhere local to have a bite to eat. Yelp directed me here. This place is like Cheers - where everyone knows your name - the staff obviously knew most of the people there, but even though it was our first time I felt like family. We ate at the counter, and I ordered something simple - bacon, eggs, potatoes, english muffin, coffee. It's a breakfast I often make at home (sans potatoes). Well the spuds alone made it worth the trip. OK, the eggs (must've been hens out back) had the most exquisite orange-ish yolks, the muffin was Thomas' (cause nothing else is really an English muffin), the bacon really crisp and flavorful. Even the coffee was good, and diner coffee is either hit or miss. The place was packed. LONG line outside - we were lucky and got seated the instant we arrrived by choosing the counter. Four stars for the food, an extra for the amazing atmosphere and hospitality, even though they were packed, the service was amazing. I can't wait to try them again. read more

The Husband and I use to come here all the time in spite of the rude owner, the woman with the brown hair/eyes and her rude wait staff, who were never especially friendly to use, we were always made to feel like we were not welcome. Then Yelp came along and by golly we found out that we were not the only one's being treated like persona non grata. The reason for the line out the door is not because it's fantastic place to eat with 5 star service and good prices. The line out the door is because the place is so tiny and there is no waiting area, so you wait outside, just like at Sax's Joint, another sad place we do not frequent. Anyway, we had syrup on the floor under out table and our shoes were sticking to the floor. When I asked for a towel and told them about it, they did nothing to help us clean their floor and acted like we were making a big deal out of nothing. INCREDIBLE. So, the last time we ate there they made sure our food came out very very very late, so poured my coffee all over the table, poured some syrup on the floor, wrote a big fat ZERO for the tip and we never went back. The menu was misleading when we ordered house fries where a majority of my plate was onions, not even skillet,hardly any potatoes . The patty melt tasted like rubber when I asked it to be cooked medium. Not enough ketchup in the world could mask the bland taste of this sandwich. Very disappointed. read more

I know that they've been around quite a long time because the reason why I went there the first time is because there was always a line outside the door. So I definitely wanted to try this place and when I went I was disappointed in the flavor of the food.
