Oh, Yelp. Why do I not recognize planted 5 star reviews when I see them? Two stars only for the one gentleman who was polite, kind and didn't make a valiant attempt to make me look incredibly stupid. The "gem testing machine", which was beat to hell and looked rather well used (if by well used one means thrown against the wall multiple times), decided my diamond ring wasn't real. The woman working started pleasant enough, but quickly turned into less than polite after the 2nd guy repeated on numerous occasions "I only trust my machine". , To wit: *The other gentleman was pretty clear that by sight he definitely hadn't doubt that they were diamonds. *This ring has been looked at THREE TIMES in the last two days. See, I'm in no rush to sell the ring (nor the others I have), so I have been taking it to other locations for valuation. This is the first Pawn "establishment" I have been into. The other three were reputable jewelry stores specializing in estate and vintage jewelry, of which all three of my pieces are. EVERY SINGLE ONE verified these as diamonds, and gave me the carat, cut, and clarity....along with the gold DWT. *I could have busted out the paperwork from these stores as they were stuffed in a pocket of my purse, but I was so disgusted by this man's insistence that I was trying to defraud him AND his unbelievably rude and condescending behavior (in front of 2 other customers, mind you...oh and lady who was browsing, that cheap costume piece he was telling you was 18k? You deserve a pat on the head and an "ohhhh honey" if you believed that), all I wanted to do was to get out of there before I said something to match his discourteous words and snotty tone. He had the unmitigated nerve to, when I said playfully that my Grammy didn't buy *anything* fake, snarkily say while pulling a face that "sure, I bet your Grandma just didn't know". My Grandmother had more class and kindness in her toenail than you've apparently accrued in a lifetime. She also didn't buy cheap crap because she saved a long time to buy nice pieces. How dare you? I feel badly for people using your business who really need the money and will let you walk all over them. And seriously, would it hurt to organize and clean that place? Jesus, I think I got Hep A through C just being in there for 5 minutes. Sorry, Hallock. Fix your machine. Change your attitude. Karma is a bitch, but word of mouth can kick Karma's ass. read more

Just great deals! I started buying silver and gold in various forms, (coins, jewelry parts and chains), here in the 1970's they were always straight forward and honest. I love these guys! I have been coming here for a few years now and since finding them I will never go anywhere else. these guys are fair, they know what they are talking about and the best thing of all they don't treat you like scum. I don't know their names but the owner, his daughter and the other guy with the glasses are so nice and friendly. It doesn't matter who you are or what you look like (I'm chicana with tattoos & piercings) & they always make me feel like a welcome customer. Every single time I go in they make small talk with me and who ever else is there. Some places only treat the customers who are buying good (which I have experienced at 2 other local pawn shops Euclid jewelry loan & Brookhurst pawn) These guys at Hallock have treated me (and other customers I have seen) with kindness and respect all around. I have had loans with them and also bought some jewelry from them and my experience with both every time has been great. I have no complaints. It's a small place as they only do jewelry & coins but if you're in need of a loan or looking to buy some jewelry I really recommend this place. Turquoise is my favorite and I got me these earring from them. They are my favorite to wear and I always get asked where I got them from. read more

This is a great place! They are extremely friendly and knowledgeable folks. As for what brought me into the store: I acquired a diamond engagement ring from a source I didn't fully trust. I brought it into Hallock Jewelry to see if they could tell me if it was a real diamond and 18k white gold (as I was told). They were able to verify everything very quickly and free of charge (even though I offered to pay them for their time). After that, we had a nice conversation about gold, jewelry and prospecting.
