Fun and lively atmosphere with plenty of food options and a bar! The outside seating is pretty large, but there is tons of indoor seating as well. The bar has plenty of options from beer, wine and cocktails. Ordering from the app was kind of strange, but it worked. The food options looked fun, I went to the bowls and got a poke bowl, it was really good and spicy after I added in the sriracha. Hall Pass has been a staple close to my heart for years, but tonight when we went in the vibe was completely different. The place was pretty packed, as is usual on a Saturday evening, and when we found two open seats at the bar we were informed they were reserved by the general manager. We found some extra chairs and took them to the end of the bar and were IDed as soon as we sat down, as is normal for a bar, but when we tried to order we were instructed they were classified as a restaurant and we just order food. We've never encountered this before at Hall Pass and are very familiar with Utah liquor laws as residents of the state who frequent both restaurants and bars. When we ordered drinks the bartender told me she could not make the cocktail I've been ordering there for years, when pressed she said they don't make it, I was not served the water I ordered at the same time. When I scanned the menu QR code I waited about 5 minutes and the request kept timing out, so I pulled out my second phone on another phone service, same issue. I asked for a physical menu and they said they didn't have one and suggested I connect to the wifi but gave no instructions before walking away. My partner was finally able to pull up a menu and there were only basic drinks, no special cocktails anymore, just basic drinks. When we tried to order a beer the bar tender asked again if we were ordering food before they would serve it. I couldn't tell you about the current state of the food, we left soon after we were served one beer. The service and drink menu are so different that I wonder if this place is under different ownership or management. It seemed like we weren't welcome tonight. RIP to an old favorite. read more

We decided to make a pit stop in Salt Lake City for lunch and HallPass sounded like it had lots of options. We were a bit leery that we were walking into a mall food court but were pleasantly surprised by the food options and quality. The hall looks like a lot of the newer food court options popping up in major cities. Different restaurants all housed in one location with plenty of seating and a large bar area. What really won us over was that the food was really deliciously good. So much so that a couple of our friends bought more to go for dinner. We ordered at SkinnyFATS and Hog and Tradition BBQ. The Balsamic Bleu salad with grilled chicken, poke bowl, brisket and Cuban sandwich were delicious! A friend ordered the peach cobbler and it was amazing. I was just at the bar at HallPass for the first time to watch the Argentina vs. Spain soccer game on 07/19. There was a man there, who was clearly a regular, who discriminated me based on the fact I was an Argentina fan/ he assumed I was Argentinian given the jersey I was wearing. Before the game even started, I asked if I could take the seat next to him and without barely even looking at me, he rudely said "no you can't fucking take it" and held it down. I called him out on being an a**hole (the male bartender who was working saw the whole interaction) and he wouldn't even look at me. During the game, he said multiple offensive things directly to me and toward the crowd. He said, loudly and looking at me, "in Mexico if you're from Argentina we spit on you." He also turned around after Spain scored and pointed at every Argentina fan calling them "boludo" one by one. Boludo is an insult only Argentines use. He also yelled at me and said "you guys fucking think you're European, you're not, I'm more European than you, I'm Spanish" (comically enough, he was from Mexico and cheering for a European country). He was clearly prejudiced toward people from Argentina. He made several vulgar gestures toward Argentina fans, pretending to be f*cking them. He also stood and put his dirty shoe on the bar, which is a complete lack of hygiene. He used foul language and all of his cheers were derogatory toward Argentinians as a nationality, and not about the soccer that was being played. I complained to the bartenders and the manager there multiple times, and they told me "it's just part of the game" and "he's a regular." Let me add that he also disrespected your waitresses. He called the blonde woman over, made a joke that I couldn't hear, and she was clearly uncomfortable. As she walked away she said "you're a horny add dog." This man does not respect women either. Shame on your staff for choosing to coddle a regular who drops money at the bar instead of protecting customers and fostering an environment of respect. I have been a soccer fan my whole like and that is NOT just part of the game. Your waitresses also clearly do not feel comfortable and feel like it's normal or they can't say anything about it. Please protect your staff and have clearer boundaries with your customers, even if they drop a lot money at your bar. I will not be back at hallpass after your staff made your values clear. read more

I always love food halls, because they always have such diverse food choices. There were so many nice places to choose from at HallPass, but I decided to get the gyro which was $13 and came with the gyro as well as a side of rice. I thought the gyro was pretty good and the size was great for being $13. I do wish the gyro was a little warmer. The rice was also good and I loved the lemon touch. I also ordered the Strawberry Dreams drink which was coconut rum, strawberries, coco loco house mix, lemon juice, and berry mix. I was expecting it to be bigger, but given the price, not too bad. I thought the cocktail was great; I do wish it was sweeter, as it was more on the tart side than I thought it would be. There are like 5 or 6 different small restaurants where you can order, get a buzzer and sit wherever you like, and then go hang out at the bar. HallPass as a concept is soooo awesome. It is a cafeteria style with lots of different restaurants, which I especially like for group settings. They have a bar with 21+ seating next to it and other tables for all ages throughout the rest of the place. The first few times I went, it was hard to find seating, but it does look like they've either moved things around or added more tables, and there was more seating available the most recent time I went. I've tried a couple different places here and my favorite is the BBQ place. Their ube cornbread is sooo good, and I love the pulled pork. They seem to be a crowd pleaser since they are still around while a lot of the other places have come and gone. It does seem like it's tough for restaurants to make it in here. My personal opinion are that the prices are too high for the quality of the food. The service has been great, and the food has always been good; however, it just never quite feels like I'm getting what I paid for. I would still recommend this place for a group dinner especially before an event, but I'd be prepared to pay premium downtown prices for food hall food. They do validate parking and give you an hour free at the gateway parking garage if you eat here! read more

Well, we were visiting SLC and thought we'd explore a bit. HallPass caught my eyes on Yelp, so I took my husband there. I thought there might be a parking lot, but no... It's facing a tiny street with very limited parking options. Then we saw a valet in front, and there's a sign that says "free with validation." So we went for it. But I misread the sign. But first, the food. There are many options, but the first little shop by the entrance caught our eyes. Lobster rolls! It's been years since I had a good lobster roll, so that's what I decided; and husband, Lobster Reuben. They were both excellent! The chunk of lobsters in the roll was like... chunky. The sauce was light and not sticky. Satisfying! Asked about validation for the valet. She said they didn't validate. There's no such thing. Okay, thanks. Got some drinks at the bar. Nice service. Asked about the validation. He said they didn't validate. Okay, thanks. After a very satisfying meal, we went to get some ice cream. Asked about the validation. She said they didn't do that. Okay, thanks. So, fine, we'd pay the full valet fee, no idea how much it was, but that's okay... then we went back to the valet guy, and re-read the sign. "Free with validation" wasn't for HallPass, but some other place. For HallPass, $11 with validation, $16 without. The dude called the boss and asked about this (he was new), and the boss said that the manager inside can validate. Not a clue on how we'd find this manager. So, beware. Don't do us. Go park elsewhere. But again, the food was excellent. But they should turn down the music a notch. read more

This food hall is located at The Gateway- just under The Megaplex movie theater. It's nice to see that they are trying to built this "mall" back up because of its location to entertainment venues-- Megaplex, across from Delta Center and also just down from Wiseguys comedy club. This food hall was a nice surprise- lots of choices from a bar- to a chicken place, a seafood place, a bbq place, a Greek place and a dessert place. Our 1st try here we wanted to try at least two places-- we did BBQ (Hog & Tradition BBQ) and the Greek place (Lamb & Feta). My wife enjoyed her Hog Fries from the BBQ location.  I had the Lamb gyro with a side of fries.  The gyro was a nice size and the fries were shoestring and crispy. We both were happy with the two things we tried that night and agreed that it was definitely going on the list of our "go to" places to eat when in that area. read more

Nice concept in a nice area. We each enjoyed our lunches, bought from different vendors, and there seemed to be a nice mix of people here: younger, older, casual, professional, etc. I particularly enjoyed my hot chicken sandwich. Yum! But one little thing drove me crazy. I wanted to order a bottle of water with my meal. The bottles of water were right there on the counter for purchase. It's an automated ordering system so you tap in your order on the screen, pay, and then wait for it to be delivered. But there was no way to order the water, no one there to help, and it ended up taking about 10-15 minutes, several people asking if I needed help, reaching the same conclusion (that it couldn't be ordered on the screen), and all to end up with ... no water. No one ever said, oh, just take it. Or even, just pay for a soft drink and we'll call it good. Or anything at all accommodating. Since that specific option was not available on their touch pad, they were not going to let go of a bottle. So frustrating. Simple lesson in customer service is to find a way to help customers who want to order something and pay you for it. read more

On a recent visit to Salt lake City, I had friends who brought me to Hall Pass for dinner. As far as food halls go, they were some pretty great options and I settled on eating at Happy Fats which offered both healthy and gluttonous options. I settled on getting the turkey bacon sandwich and a side of fried pickles ... Which were slightly over seasoned. But the branding, and copious amounts of options were great and they let me try all the sauces Hall Pass is also located in the center of the gateway plaza which has a ton of things for kids to do, including a planetarium and kids museum which we checked out and had so much fun. They're also some other stores and eateries, which makes it a great destination if you want to do something with your friends and or kids. There's something for everybody! read more

The venue is pretty interesting as it is a food hall; cafeteria style. The only difference here appears to be that all the vendors are owned by the same person. So it is quite the creative expression from them. We opted for the hot lobster rolls. How could you not for $11.11? They were fantastic and had nice big chucks of lobster. The poke nachos were fantastic too, giving Yardhouse a run for their money. We got chowder fries as well but I think next time I'd just try the chowder instead as the flavor tasted really good. There were a lot of people throughout the hall around 8 pm. For food stalls, I decided to pick colossal lobster and skinnyFats. For colossal lobster, there wasn't a line, so I ordered right away. There was a kiosk that had descriptions and images of the menu, which was helpful for ordering and paying. For skinnyFats, I needed to wait a bit in line and ordered directly with the staff. Both stalls gave me a pager to indicate when the food is ready. At Colossal Lobster, I got the lobster roll and the poke nachos. The lobster roll was decent. It had a lot of lobster pieces, but it did lack a bit of flavor. The poke nachos tasted great! They used wonton chips, which added a lot of flavor to the dish. However, the downside is that the wonton couldn't really hold up the tuna without breaking. They used a spicy mayo for the sauce, which was amazing. At skinnyFat, I ordered the "Sweet Cheese Us." This was a great balance of filet, peppers, onions, and cheese on a hoagie. A drawback was that the sandwich was falling apart with each bite. Overall, everything was great. We stopped into HallPass to grab a quick dinner. It was convenient since we were a party of 3 and everyone could get what they wanted. I liked that they had two Fountain drink stations so there was never a backup. My one complaint about this place would be that the music the DJ was playing was WAY TOO LOUD and needed to be turned down. I loved everything he was playing but it was so damn loud. It was unpleasantly loud. We couldn't hear the people who worked there, we couldn't hear each other and had to sit outside which worked out ok for us, but that would not be a viable option in inclement weather. read more

I liked this place just for the fact that it was one location with multiple businesses/food spots inside one building! I got the chicken sandwich and fries from one place and a drink at the bar and it was super good and fresh! The fries had great seasoning and the spice on the spicy chicken sandwich was spot on. Service was good as well which was great considering each place had its own employees it seemed. Ambience is nice as well but I will say Utah alcohol laws are quite interesting. You could have one cocktail ordered for yourself but if you ordered two, you couldn't carry them back to your table instead the bartender took it for you or someone from your group has to grab it. At first glance in the dark interior it's hard to choose what to eat. There are so many choices from fish and chips, poke bowls, tacos, gyros, bbq, healthy choices, hot chicken and ice cream. It's best to take a look at all the options and maybe sample a little of each because honestly..everything tasted really good! We opted for gyro meal, brisket, side salad and ice cream. Everything was reasonably priced. The gyro meal with a side of fries offered a generous portion of sandwich with lotsa meat. The bbq brisket meal with choices of 2 sides, pickles and bread was more than worth what we paid. The gyro was fresh and not over dried and made with all the delicious spices. The bbq brisket meal though was my favorite, the brisket was juicy and the two included sauces were not too sour or sweet. The fries were huge and not stringy. The bacon Mac and cheese could definitely be a meal on its own. Soo memorable. Ice cream was good and for $6 for 2 scoops and 2 toppings was a nice way to complete our meal. Nice and refreshing and not too heavy. This is really self-service and ordering is all through a screen. But..at pick up the servers are nice and courteous. You also clean your own station at the end of your meal. There's a lot of seating in the hall and drink stations. There are various meal deals and it's fun to try different foods.
