Great olive burgers. The only way to go in my opinion. They use real beef in all their burgers.

Drive thru was fast, person who took my order was very friendly! Didn't catch his name but the receipt says my server was Samuel. Ordered a single deluxe burger with onion rings (well done). Burger was delicious and onion rings absolutely perfect. I feel like asking for "well done" makes things the absolute perfect crispness no matter where you go. Burger patties cooked fresh in front of my eyes, and all the toppings were fresh too (and it was close to 9pm). They even had Ken's favorite - green olives - and for $0.36 too. Score! Personally I thought there was a little too much condiments on my 1/4lb burger, but I know better now for future ordering. As I am difficult, I upcharged to onion rings and an eggnog shake. I'm torn between four and five...we'll go with five For fast food pretty awesome.. My first time having Halo burger. I've drove by a bunch on my way to Frankenmuth, but never stopped before. I had heard some people are really hardcore fans so why not.. I got the olive burger which was pretty tasty, the meat somewhat reminiscent of In-n-out. Actually I think beyond not having a cutesy secret menu, Halo could give In-n-out a run for they're money. I really liked it. Two others in my party got the QP and fries. One liked it pretty well; the other just okay. My mom got a chicken bacon salad thumbs up from her. I also tried the chili not bad at all, pretty tasty. My boy got the hot dog and fries thumbs up from him. I stold a few fries let me tell you, they are darn good and tasty. . All in all , Halo burger is good wish there were more in the metro area. read more

We came here on the way home after a weekend up north and a long drive home. We stopped here to stretch our legs and grab some food. We were to tired to drive into Frankenmuth, so we swung into Halo since I had been to Halo before for a Yelp event some time ago. I had good impressions of Halo because I was impressed with their food after the event. When we came in, we reviewed the menu since the BF had not been here before. I told him most anything he gets will be good, and that the QP is their standard burger. He went with that and I got the chicken strips. We split an order of tater tots since we are both big fans of them. The food came out and the chicken strips looked like something out of a bag. They seemed generically cut and bland. I don't remember what they looked like at the Yelp event, but the strips from McDonalds look more lively and real. The chicken tasted fine but it did look generic. BF enjoyed his meal, but eating here isn't what it was when I went to the event in Troy. I can't put my finger on one single reason, but it just had more of a fast food feel to it, instead of something more personal with the food from what I remember. If I was in the area I would eat here again, I just wasn't as impressed as I was from previous experience. It doesn't feel like the passion is there. Prices are acceptable and the food is decent, but it tastes like just another fast food burger joint. If it had been warmer, I would have gone for one of their Boston Cooler, but it was too cold outside for me. Overall, it's just okay, but I am willing to give them another shot. read more

Are they called Halo Burger because eating one of their burgers is a religious experience? If that's the case, well, it's not. $7.30 got me slightly overdone fries with absolutely zero salt, an okay burger, and a bottle of water that apparently was dropped on the ground (the cap had some black sludge on it with hair). I guess I'd rather have no salt over an inedible kill-a-slug amount, but a little would have been nice for the fries. I got the Olive Burger and it was fine. Nice and hot so the cheese melted, but the meat to produce ratio is a bit off... a lot of cold vegetables and just a small hot patty. I would have also liked more than seemingly three or four halved olives on my burger. It was alright (comparable to Wendy's, probably a bit better), but not great. One of the better fast food burgers I've had at a very reasonable price for a combo, but how about some salt for them there fries, huh? ... and cleaning the floor. Eesh. Aaand updating the place a little bit, I swear it's like a little slab of the slums of Detroit right in Birch Run. I'd go back, but it's nothing to rave about. Local's good though, right? read more

A pretty good burger, however, the 35-45 min wait to get it was pretty rough. I think we pulled into the line around 1145 and got out around 1240, so pretty long wait. If you were making a long drive, and time-sensitive, one might consider another option for lunch. I had to give it a try due to the marketing billboards along the way, claiming to be the best burger in Michigan. Next time the considerable wait will be considered. I will say the burger with jalapenos was pretty good, and the limited time Cherry Milk Shake was pretty good. read more

Haven't even eaten the food, been sitting in the drive through for an hour and 27 minute now and can't leave because they have curbs on both sides on the drive through.. this is the worse service I've ever seen at a "fast" food. I don't even care if the food is great waiting over an hour for fast food is not worth it regardless what it is. Update, on the food, buns were sawgy, burgers were wayyy over done. 45 minute wait in the drive through and then we were missing an item. My turkey burger was raw but there was nothing we could easily do about it since the dining room is closed and we weren't going to wait in that line again. Stopped here for first time around 9:45 am craving a burger for our road trip. Even though it was a little early for burgers and Halo was still serving breakfast they made our order of three burgers, three fries and cheese curds. The burger was pretty good, cheese curds were delicious. But the best thing was that they made us our special lunch order happily and rather quickly since it wasn't lunch time yet. Joe was the employee working the drive thru and he was very pleasant, nice, and gave us our food with a smile. Someone warned me even before I moved to Michigan about the joys of Halo Burger. Bite one, you'll go to Heaven, and then spend months in purgatory daydreaming about the next time you have one. Requisite salivating followed. I tried a Halo Burger the first time I went to Frankenmuth and enjoyed another at the original downtown Flint location on a doomed trip to use a LivingSocial coupon. That's another story, but the unifying thread of all these magical experiences was the mellowing, satisfying presence of this mid-Michigan icon. As far as fast food burgers go, it's right up there. The beau and I only visit Birch Run's restaurant by drive thru, but we still receive consistently piping hot food in the short time it takes the Halo gnomes and brownies to put together their select concoctions. Each time we received exactly what we wanted and then some -- I got loads of olives, probably a little more than the burger could handle per square meaty inch. Pickles tumbled past my juicy little patty to land in the wings of the opened wrapper. My goodness, this is what they meant by finger-licking good. Those French fries are something else when made fresh rather than left to sit in a soggy pool of oil and turn lukewarm like at other places. They are always crisp, not too salted, and steaming hot. Onion rings came out a little greasy but satisfying in crunch when we tried them. I like my fries a little too much and there was a bit of war on who got to eat the last ones. Halo Burger is on par with other fast food restaurants for price, but they do not diverge into salads, oatmeal, wraps, gyros, and fois gras wrapped in maple-crisped salmon skin. Their core menu holds no surprises, allows small additions like olives and mushrooms, and they do what they do well. Two can eat for about $14 and be pretty full. Service here has always been top notch, and our last visit at the end of July featured one of the friendliest, prompt cashiers I've ever seen in a fast food restaurant. I'm not much for fast food burgers, but I love Halo Burger because I love olive burgers...and I love the fact that this is a small local chain that started in the 1920s. Popping an extra 36 cents gets you a generous dollop of sliced olives on your cheeseburger...did I mention that I love olive burgers? We had a couple of shakes the last time we visited...again, I'm not much for shakes, but the black raspberry flavor shake featured the last time we visited there tasted like great, thick and fresh soft-serve ice cream. The Birch Run location is just across the freeway from the big outlet mall, so that makes it pretty convenient for hard-core shoppers. Buy local...buy olives! :) read more

I have been hearing for a while now how great Halo Burgers are, so today on our trip home from up north, I was introduced to the burger by Halo. I had the burger combo and added cheese and some mushrooms. Friend had the burger with green olives. I am sure she loved hers since she's one who's been telling me about Halo for a while now. The burger was cooked nicely and had kind of crispy dark edges that I love. And, I actually picked all the mushrooms off (there were a lot too) and ate them separately; I love mushrooms! Like someone else has mentioned below, the burgers are Wendy-esque - but much better in my opinion. I wish there was a Halo closer to home! The fries were also pretty good, fresh, not too salty. In the pursuit of great burgers I stopped here after reading other reviews. In my opinion this place is below average. Yes you can get olives or mushrooms, that did nothing to make these special. If your at the mall, pulling off the highway or staying near I can see stopping; however I would not drive out of my way for this. read more

I can't figure out how this place never got big. Its everything Wendy's couldn't be. Growing up in Flint, this is the burger place. We usually go through the drive-thru and that's what I recommend, we ate in the restaurant once and the ambiance was, um, lacking, yeah lacking is a nice way to put it. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My husband and I stopped here 4th of July weekend and had a horrible meal. We thought it was because of a busy holiday weekend and let it go. We decided to give it another shot this weekend and it was just as bad if not worse. We have been coming to this place for 15 years and it was always so great. The last year it has been horrible and we will not be back anytime soon. Let us know when you are going to go back to your old menu. The "coney" fries are disgusting and tasted like ground up greasy meat of some kind. Your old "chili cheese" fries were amazing. You should also bring back your kids meals as well. My burger was hot and low and behold the cheese was melted to my beef patty! I asked for extra pickles and holy crow I wont do that again. I had so many pickles, when I bit into my burger I had pickle juice dripping out it. Oh, the fries! I love them. They are floppy and salted just right. I do like this place it tends to be cold in the winter but perfect in the summer. So dress accordingly. It is outdated but will not take away from the food. read more

First thing I was told as I placed my order was that I would have to pour my baby's water bottle out because they could not allow any outside food in the restaurant. I understand the concept of that, but considering security at the airport was able to prevent me from pouring it out because he is a baby it just seems like a fast food restaurant would be willing to extend the same courtesy. Halo Burger, however, is apparently more secure than the airport. This started out our visit by making my family feel unwelcome and disappointed. This location of Halo Burger is the worst place I have ever eaten in my life. I never write reviews but I have to write one for this restaurant. My husband and I ordered two hamburgers of different kinds and both felt like they came out of the refrigerator. Meat and everything was freezing cold. We used to live in Michigan and loved Halo burgers and was looking forward to one as we passed through. I called the manager and she was rude about it and said she didn't have any problems and that if I didn't like it I need to call the health department. Really disappointed. I used to swing thru here every few weeks on my way home from work. Delicious back in the day. Been about 8 years since my last visit until today. Over $9 for a combo meal. Burger was super messy and slapped together. Giant chunks of lettuce and DRIPPING mustard and mayo. I read reviews of how good their food is and also how slow their service is. I had some extra time tonight and only one car was in the drive through so I gave them a shot. I pulled up to the speaker and was greeted and told they would be right with me... I set a timer just out of curiosity. Three minutes later the car at the window drove away. I waited a little while longer and nothing. I began to repeatedly say hello, hello, hello. At six minutes in a guy came over the speaker and said they're not taking anymore orders and they had their headphones off. I'm a hard 3 on stars.. I got the QP.. Never been here before & I love trying new things.. The outside of this place is pretty ran down,but the food isn't horrible. I would say it's a minor notch above McDonald's simply because it has 'different' things in the menu.. The 'never frozen beef' thing sold me.. & again it wasn't horrible.
