I was referred to Halsey's by my friends for a 2nd opinion after the Honda dealer told me that my 2012 Odyssey with only 88k miles needs engine replacement. Halsey's mechanics found out that the check engine light was on because of bad spark plugs only, not of serious and costly engine problems! I'm so grateful my friends told me about Halsey's. An honest shop is rare and now I've found one. The manager Terry is a super nice and friendly guy. He made us feel comfortable like we've known him forever. I left my 2004 f350 6.0 turbo diesel with them and within one or two days they had a diagnoses so they're pretty quick. Called me and explained the problems. They said my turbo needed replacing. Mice nest on air box side clogged it. They said they saw metal shavings. Quoted $3100 to replace the turbo and air box assembly. $140 for the diagnoses (goes towards final bill if you do the work there). The price was too high for me, so I towed truck home and did it myself. Removed turbo in 1 hour. Cleaned and put it back about an hour and a half more. (Thank you youtube). No metal shavings seen at all. My truck is running great. Turns out it was just clogged from the mice nest on air box side. I went through everything to make sure it was clean. I don't know what to think. For one they said they saw shavings. There was clearly none. But at the same time I don't blame them for wanting to just replace a turbo since its a risk and time consuming to open it up and clean and put back with the chance of it not working. Maybe this is standard practice to replace parts instead of rebuilding. In conclusion, I would go there for a diagnostic again for sure. Very polite, and very quick. For repairs, I'm not sure honestly. I have no doubt they would of done a good job though. read more

John was awesome. Got us in one day and repairs were completed the following day even while having to have parts ordered. John was communicative each step of the way and as well as honest. Our AC being out was one thing we brought our car in for. John looked at it before we left and showed us it was essentially user error. He could have told and sold us just about anything regarding the AC but he was honest and told us it wasn't broken at all. The other repairs were fixed the following day and he even threw in an oil change. Would definitely use them again. read more

After hitting a curb and damaging my suspension, I took my car to Halsey's to see how bad the damage was. There was more damage than expected and got the insurance involved. Sam and Andrea were very communicative about the situation and what was going on. They had to email and speak a LOT with my insurance to make sure my car got what was needed to restore it back to how it was before. Now my car drives perfectly before the accident. Halsey's Auto Service, an auto service that provides excellent service (for real, no kidding). Today it is so hard to find a shop that you can have trust in to give you a straight answer on an automotive problem. Let's face it, in today's cars the level of technology is so high that for most of us we really don't have clue what a serious problem is or if it is just something minor (we like to think we do, but in reality unless you are a serious car person you really don't know much about what is going on under that hood). So, thank you Halsey's Auto Service for being an honest shop that finds the problem and gives a straight answer and fixes the problem with out trying to find out what the limit is on your credit card. And like you may read in other reviews they really do provide excellent service and will do everything they can to get you back on the road quickly. I had an A/C problem and what I know was that it used blow cold air and now it is blowing warm air and it's freaking hot outside so I really would like to cool air back. I had places tell me it would be anywhere from 500 - 1000 to fix. Told compressor must be bad. Ok, I thought let take it over Halsey's Auto Service, I read so many good reviews so let see what these guys say. So, I took it over on Saturday and they fit me in, found the problem, a valve went bad and released the freon, and fixed (Less than 200). I've been there three times with various car issues and each time they fixed it fast and gave me a really good price that is lower than I expect. They are really honest about the problem and what needs to be done and very friendly. I came in a fourth time with a transmission leak and they referred me to a transmission place they trust and threw in a couple quarts of transmission fluid in without charge so I can drive the couple miles to the transmission shop. I've been burned many times with various mechanic shops but these people have really earned my trust and I have no problems recommending them to anyone. read more

I wouldn't recommend this repair shop to anybody that's having problems with no start no crank or any sort of electrical problems. Jhon really has no clue on troubleshoot and test any electrical car equipment and fail to do a proper battery connections inspection. I ended up paying them $450 for unnecessary repairs (starter and starter relay) on my Lexus IS which it didn't fix the problem. All it needed was some cleaning on the starter cable terminal connector with a wire brush and a new positive battery terminal which I ended up doing myself, after Jhon(Owner) wanted to pull a fast one again from me, telling me that I had to change all my battery wiring because has corrosion right after I had already payed the $450. At least he gave me the clue where the problem was. After dealing with Jhon my opinion about him is that he's a crook or he has lack of experience or both. They gave me a 3 year warranty for the starter, but honestly even if that cheap remanufactured starter would go bad in the next day or so I wouldn't take my car with them "NEVER AGAIN" even if is covered with any kind of warranty. Thanks for nothing Jhon Wright. Update: After reading Jhon' s response, seems like the only thing he knows how to do very well is lying. It took him 3 days and 4 starter replacements to find out that there was a problem with the power going to the starter while i was with out a car. He sprayed some liquid to make a current path to the starter cable and battery cables wich I never said that they're new or replaced multiple times like he mentions, my cables are perfectly fine and don't need to be replaced.That liquid hack he used only lasted 2 days and 90 miles when the car left me stranded again with the same problem I had since the beginning. I dont understand how someone can stay in business being so unprofessional. read more

This is the only mechanic in town that I trust. Julie was fantastic handling me calling about my car and is the sweetest woman in the world. We ran into some unexpected issues with my vehicle. Kind of like an onion, every layer they peeled back we found more. While they were discovering more with my vehicle I was high and dry for a set of wheels. Sam Borrelli offered me one of their vehicles to drive so I didn't miss work. They also gave me a fantastic deal on all of the parts and labor. I was a long time Halsey's customer but no longer. Brought in our 2000 Sienna with a groaning noise coming from the power steering. It was determined the pump was worn out and was replaced along with one of the hoses. Within a few days a leak developed and we returned back multiple times but they still could not fix the leak, even after additional components were installed. I'm very disappointed and I can no longer recommend them. read more

We highly recommend Sam Borrelli, Service Director. He has personally overseen and captained the engine repair of our son's beloved Pontiac Firebird which his grandparents purchased when he was born and that he now drives to College. Just recently, Sam and his team at Halsey's removed and replaced the front right and left lower control arms and ball joint suspension, replaced the front struts / suspension, removed and replaced the left front axle and recharged the our a/c system all on our Nissan Maxima taking the time and patience to show me the old parts removed and new parts being installed. These guys know their stuff from old American models to new foreign computerized models. Outstanding service and pricing. I went to Halsey's because it's been there forever and you usually don't stay in business by being a bad/overpriced mechanic. Plus, I figured his overhead was cheaper for it looking like a run down shop, therefore he doesn't need to charge as much as the newer looking shops..... I WAS WRONG. I went in for brakes and an oil change. His receipt was very glib "Replace/resurface rotors"... well which one was it? Then I could understand the $500 you charged me. Also charged me an extra $60 to "bleed brakes of fluid and replace", isn't this included in an oil change? Lastly, he charged me FULL PRICE FOR AN OIL CHANGE! After $550 of work he has the balls to do that? After I found a reliable mechanic, I showed him my invoice from Halsey's and he laughed, and stated jokingly, "man, I wish I could get away with that." Beware of "Over-Pricing" After I brought my car in for a diagnostic on a repair, I was quoted an "Outrageous" cost for the repair. After getting a second opinion, I learned that I was being charged more than half the actual cost. I did get my car repaired for half the cost at another shop. read more
