Halsted Flowers is a great flower shop. Recently a friend asked me for the name of a great place to get flowers for his Mom for this past Mother's Day. I gave him Geneva's shop # and Geneva put together a gorgeous arrangement for him. How do I know this? Because his Mom loved them so much she called me to thank me for telling her son about Geneva's shop! The arrangement was that beautiful. Geneva has a special touch with flowers, and she listens to what you want. We call Geneva a lot for ordering flowers for our office as well as for flowers for special occasions. I've worked with Halsted Flowers a couple times, and will not work with anyone else as long as I'm in the Chicago area. In a space that is crowded with one-size fits all inventory, varying quality, and poor customer service; Geneva shines by differentiating on all of those points. This weekend is my birthday and our anniversary. We received flowers from my parents from this Florist. We had some friends over and they were surprised that many of the flowers were dying / flopped over. Some of the filler leaves were also torn. I called the florist/owner (Geneva?) -- she was surprised and told me to bring them back in so she can inspect them and possibly replace them. I felt that was not appropriate. She then said she would send a driver (uber) to pick up the flowers. The driver showed up --- also agreed the flowers did not look right --- took them. The owner called soon after and said the flowers looked great to her and she resold them right away -- made us feel bad -- with no apology. She then said she will send a 'more expensive' arrangement. The arrangement we got however, had less flowers and more green filler -- mostly small simple flowers, no roses. We talked to our parents today who sent the flowers --- not known to us, but the florist had also called them and told them we were not happy with their floral arrangement --- and the florist would be sending us a 'more expensive' arrangement. Completely inappropriate, again. Basically, this florist/owner has no concept of customer service. She did a good job of making both us and our parents feel bad. Wasted a lot of our time and messed up what was supposed to be a happy day/occasion. read more

I was invited to a Passover Seder and didn't want to bring a food gift to the hostess cause I was worried it wouldn't be appropriate for Passover. Flowers were the answer, but they had to be really nice, not just standard FTD-style. I had never purchased from Halsted Flowers, but walked into the shop and was impressed by the bouquets they had on display. They put together for me a beautiful combination of spring flowers and some roses too, very artistic, and they packed it carefully because I had to drive with it to the suburbs. I am still in awe of how sweet and nice Geneva is. The Big City has a way of stripping the good customer service out of retail businesses, so it was truly refreshing to speak with her. We recently had our first child and my mother (from Nebraska) stumbles across this store online. Geneva spent 45 minutes on the phone with my mom talking about life/family AFTER the transaction was complete. My mom was so impressed, I called Geneva to ask a question about our plant just to see if my mom was being dramatic. She was not. Geneva and I spent 20+ minutes on the phone and she even remembered my new daughter's name! It suffices to say I will not buy a flower/plant anywhere else, in fact, I look forward to buying flowers just to get to work with Geneva. The most horrific bad vibe shop lady ever! She started yelling at me because i was on the phone. When i walked in the shop i saw these quartz and thought of buying them for my friend who i was talking to on the phone because her father passed away. I thought ill come by tomorrow and get one. So i was leaving without buying anything and she lost it saying how it was rude to have conversations in the store. I was speaking in spanish so she had no idea what i was saying but i found it completely rude of her to send me such negative vibes. I told her to chill out and she kept venting. Incredibly helpful and I never set foot in the store! I reached out through the online contact form and Geneva emailed me back a day later. Given I had 3 weeks until my event, we agreed to touch base a few days later after the busy Easter weekend. Geneva called me back in a timely manner and asked a few questions to understand my needs. She wanted to know where the flowers would be placed, whether they would be viewed from all angles or up against a wall on one side, what the event was, all in order to create the best bouquet. I ended up ordering two arrangements given my price limitations. They were perfect. The pickup was easy - my husband stopped by before close, but they had offered to put the bouquets next door if we needed to get them after they closed. Halsted Flowers did the floral arrangements for my April wedding. From the moment I met Geneva, the passion and creativity she brings to her work was evident. Flowers for her are clearly a labor of love. Geneva listened to all of my ideas and added her creativity and expertise to create arrangements that really blew me away. Her attention to detail was impeccable. I can't say that I'm someone who knows a lot about flowers, but I did come to our first consultation with a lot of ideas. This shop is like a lost art! It seems almost impossible to find the type of topiaries and French inspired plants in this city. I walked in to this place a couple years back and was in love. The staff is amazing and the scents and feeling when you walk in are unbelievable. In my past I was a SM at Smith & Hawken- and when we closed, I thought there needs to be someone that has the same aesthetic and appreciation for topiary and quality. I was so happy to find this place. Recently, my partner put in a request with the owner (I assume) for a string of pearls plant; which we could not find anywhere. After a couple of weeks, and forgetting about the request-we get a call letting us know they have some plants for us to come and look at. And just today-they knew we were interested in a Fiddle Leaf Fig and took the time to call us about one that they have gotten in stock. I found my florist! This was the first time I used Halsted Flowers! I found their name on Angie's List & Google! Geneva is the owner and is amazing! She took her time with me on the phone to choose the perfect arrangement for one of my closest friends who is needs a bit of cheer! I typically like monochromatic designs or a range of the same color however, Geneva suggested these colors and I couldn't be happier. I know my friend will be thrilled! Geneva was very busy however, she was patient none-the-less until we found the perfect combination! I said Whimsy and fairy dust for a light and fun feel and she had the answer!
