I will only get plants and flowers from here. Everywhere else I go that is less expensive, Trader Joes, Lowes, Home Depot, etc., everything dies. They must not over or under water their plant babies here and give them decent potting soil because everything looks just as good as the day I got it. I will update my review. The owner was humble and responsive so I'd like to UPDATE. The owner/manager/older woman (who is normally friendly and kind)rushed me out of the space despite me having entered 15 min prior to closing so I suggest knowing EXACTLY what you want if you are entering several minutes before closing. I was making a spontaneous gesture to surprise my client with a flower while finishing the work in her home office. I was taking my idea very seriously because I am using my personal funds not the clients for this spontaneous kind gesture. I wanted to pick the best flower. They have a nice selection of greenery. I prefer to shop small business. Normally businesses will give you an extra few minutes if you are already within the store to finish the transaction but the owner or manager said "come on you've got to make a decision, we close at 4pm" and then tried to engage in small talk asking me if I were a mom while I was preparing to pay. NO. Employee STRESS should not be felt negatively by customers. However, the previous times i have entered she was helpful. I understand the stress of Mother's Day. What if I wanted to return for more clients? As an interior designer her demeanor was slightly rude. The young employees who helped did a great job and did not rush me. They took me seriously. I could have bought flowers at Mariano's but I thought I would find something special here. I am very though with my purchases and am always working under a budget. read more

Wanted to love this place and make this place my go-to flower shop, but now I'm never returning. While I'm not planning a wedding or picking up a bouquet for a partner, I did stop by every few weeks to bring home a succulent or two and browse their candle selection. While I buy most of my plants there, I only once purchased a lavender plant from Trader Joes. I'm a plant newbie and sometimes struggle to keep plants alive, and that's exactly what happened with the lavender--it was nearing death by week two. So, after useless Google searches, I decided my "local florist" might be able to help, since we developed a rapport by that time and I thought I could trust her. NOPE. WRONG. I came in with my plant in my grocery bag, and attempted to explain the issue I was having. The owner apparently can't remember me, even though--at that point--I was stopping by almost every other weekend. Her responses to me were a mix of ignoring me and being extremely curt. Eventually she just sighed and sternly told me, "Honey, if you didn't buy it here, I can't help you," making it seem *insane* that I had asked her advice about a plant that I dared to purchase outside her store. On some level, I understand this, but was hoping my patronage would get me just a little advice about one plant because, at that point, I had purchased over $300 worth of plants and do-dads from her and I had lived in the neighborhood less than a year. But her exchange with me was so uncomfortable, I will never, ever go back. Even though she's the closest florist to my building. Essentially, if you want a bouquet or a candle--fine pick one up. But if you're going to be interacting with the owner a lot, look elsewhere. She's more interested in money (what you've purchased from her) than developing a relationship that leads to better, more business. read more

Came into Halsted Flowers in search of a nice b-day gift for a friend. With this place being in my building, I was looking for an excuse to stop by. Boy am I glad I did! For my friend I settled on a great smelling candle. There were lots to chose from and I eventually picked the one that the shop owner recommended. She was right, it smelled great! My friend loved it! Beyond that, the flowers were beautiful and succulents all look very healthy and well tended for. I just have to preface this by saying that I was an "anti-bride". I was SUCH a procrastinator about everything..I found my makeup artist and hair person a few days before the big day.. YIKES!! She was so accomodating while working with my mother and me regarding the details, etc. I was so impressed. The pressure was on and she more than delivered. I obviously came to her last minute and worked with her over the phone. I told her the vision that I had in mind and I cannot tell you how responsive, responsible, and how talented she proved to be!! She was on top of every detail. Any question she ever had, she reached out to me to make sure I was happy. She even emailed me photos of the flowers so that I could ok them!! When I saw my bouquets in person that she made for me (very last minute) I was overwhelmed by how beautiful they were. She also provided the most beautiful flowers for my cake, as well as petals for the aisle and the groomsmens' boutonnieres and the mother of the brides' corsages. Beautiful hydrangeas, orchids and roses. If it weren't for Geneva, I think my wedding would have been a lot less beautiful. Thank you, Geneva!! Came in here to find a special plant for my new apartment and I'm so happy I did! I was looking for a unique, leafy medium size plant, kind of like the ones you see on Pinterest. I fell in love with one and snatched it up as quickly as I could- turns out I got the last of that certain kind. Right off the bat I could tell that the customer service was top notch. The owner, Geneva, helped me get flowers sent to my loved one on Valentine's day (one of the busiest days of the year for floral shops) and of course, I waited til the last minute! When I arrived at her shop, she had a line of people out the door waiting to place their last minute orders and mind you, it was 2pm when I got there. I waited in line, which moved quickly, and was greeted by a friendly smiling woman who clearly had a lot going on that day. They had plenty of staff to assist their customers and took my order in a flash and guaranteed delivery by the end of Valentine's day! These folks are floral magicians. Most places you'd walk into for a bouquet would give you something homogeneous and quick for a price. But, in order to make an impression, you'd want something a bit more. I walked in to Halsted Flowers with $100, and Shelby gave me a personally-arranged bouquet that almost didn't fit through my front door.
