I was ready to give 5 stars, but they lost me at service. The hamburgers and fries were very good. (smash burger style) After we ate, I asked the young lady clearing the tables if we can order ice cream and she said they should be able to help me if I go upstairs and let the lady at cash register know. I went in and after she took an order at the window she told me I needed to go outside and wait in the line. I said no way and went back to our table. I thought as a customer who already paid, she could have rang me up for one cone. Why can they not do at the bar either? At the time we ordered the burgers, how would you know if you had room for dessert or not? It is a dog friendly place, so if I could go 3.5 stars I would. Family place indeed, lots of kids. Hands down the best burger joint in north county. The service was prompt. You purchase at the window and they bring it to you at your table. All four of my kids say this place is 5 stars. I agree. The service was friendly and helpful. Nice safe clean with hip music. The food was excellent and plenty of it. The double was probably too much for me but still delicious. Fries were good and the special fries called jabba fries were excellent. My only suggestion on the latter is to chop up the burger. Hamburger Hut has got it going on! Seriously, this place is legit- delicious burgers, tasty crafted cocktails, and a cool vibe to match. Finally made it in and I'm really regretting I hadn't made it happen sooner. The menu is simple but packed with tons of flavor and options for all. Choose from a single or double patty (smash style burgers). Gluten free? They've got gluten free buns. Vegetarian? They've got a fish sandwich or an ahi bowl. They even have a salad. Fries on the side are a must and rumor has it a take on a "blooming onion" is on the horizon. They also have soft serve iced cream and soon to have milkshakes. Cocktails are unique and full of flavor. I had the The Palisades (vodka, passionfruit, Madagascar vanilla & lemon) and the Yacht club (Australian whiskey, strawberry compari, pineapple passionfruit, and lemon). They also had a few different beers on draft and I believe they also have wine. They've got pink lemonade for the littles (or bigs). Space has a huge parking lot which is key in Leucadia. They have a back patio as well as indoor seating. They have a live DJ on weekends and are dabbling with karaoke. The staff was all knowledgeable about the whole menu & concept. We came for a girls weekend on a saturday night, and it was bustling but not packed - the staff was so friendly and fun, and the food is delicious. Perfect casual but fun ambiance - great tiki vibes inside, and a decent sized outdoor seating area with picnic tables and a few fire pits. The vibes are ace. The double is suitable for hungry, service size of fries is generous, and the chicken nuggets rival McDonalds (in the best way possible). Highly recommend - and (if you please) a martini on the side. Well seasoned and not too the thick. I would say this is the best takeout burger place in San Diego no doubt about that! HMM, THE BAD- less one point. The price - 1 burger is $7.49... if it was cheaper we would be here more often. I bought 4 singles and 2 kids and it was $56 and then 2 lemonades and Mexican coke was $14.... = $70 for takeout burgers, I mean it cost this much before the recession :) Also you can't order drinks with your take out, they make you go to the "Bar", have to wait to be seen to order drinks for your take out order??? The attitude from the bar needs work- training in customer service is much needed similar to when I first visited this place. Sammy is the man he is one of the best bar tenders around town you would be suprised by the level of knowledge behind the bar, usually that status is reserved for hipster high end places and the food is amazing. Would check this place out for sure ! read more

We had the double burger and fries and a fountain drink. $20 each. The burger, bun, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion ratio was spot on. The fries were very good. The interior is beachy comfortable as you can see in many of the pictures for the Hut. But, let's talk tipping. You order before going in. Mama Hut flips the screen for tipping and it defaults to 25%. Or $10. I chose to custom tip. Mama Hut replies, "Anything is a blessing" or something to that effect. What did service consist of? A 20' walk from the counter to the table with our order that is served on an 1/8th sheet hotel pan. That's it. For that, the screen defaults to a $10 tip. The place was busy and the servers are making similar 20 to 40 foot trips to deliver food every 2 minutes. 30 trips at $10 per trip = $300 per hour plus whatever base pay is involved. You get your own drink. Your own condiment (ketchup and or a couple of chilis) and you bus your table. I watched several tables turn and the diners did such a good job busing their tables, that they didn't even get wiped down. $300 per hour? Idk how they split the tips, but this is absolutely ridiculous. Why they don't call numbers like In-n-out is beyond me. read more

Hamburger hut is a very California-esque spot complete with a surf hut feel and friendly staff. Really good burgers and fries for the price too! They also have a bar with a variety of beer and cocktail options, and the indoor and outdoor spaces ensure it's never too crowded. I tried the chicken nugs most recently, and I have to say I didn't love them, they almost had a vegan chicken taste and I didn't care for the thousand island sauce (which usually I do like that dressing!). I will say there's slight inconsistencies in the food each time I go, but hey I've been quite a few times anyways because it's still a solid, fun spot that's perfect for a cheeseburger craving.
