I decided to take the next car I was going to buy off CL into the mechanic this time. Long story short, the guys here were AMAZING. Larry really took his customer service to the next level and I was extremely comforted knowing I was in good hands. He treated me like his own daughter and I really needed that. He had his master mechanic look over the car for me and they ended up saving me about 5,000 of repairs if I had bought this car (just shy of 9K including the car). Once again the guy off of CL said had "absolutely no problems." And they ended up giving me a ride home:) Best 100 dollars I've spent. Master mechanic was awesome, Daniel was awesome, Larry was awesome. I will definitely be making another visit soon.

WOMEN BEWARE: My Pep Boys Hamden experience left me feeling targeted, dismissed, unsafe, and with a…read moredead car. I brought my gold 2008 Buick Enclave to Pep Boys Hamden on July 16, 2026 for emissions and a simple oil change. The emissions portion was quick, but I then spent about 4 hours waiting for what should have been a routine oil change. At the end of that long wait, Pep Boys claimed there was an engine oil leak and immediately tried to push me toward paying for a $200+ diagnostic. That did not make sense to me because the vehicle had recently been purchased and checked before purchase with no known engine or transmission issues. Less than 2 weeks after this supposed oil change, the "Change Engine Oil Soon" light came on. My team and I had to buy engine oil and add oil ourselves just to bring the oil level back to where it needed to be. That is shocking after paying for an oil change. The vehicle later began shaking, overheating, and showing warning lights. I took it to Monro for a second opinion, and Monro stated there was no engine oil leak. They also identified transmission-related issues and signs consistent with improper transmission-fluid interference and unauthorized transmission work/tampering. What stood out to me is that Monro did not try to take advantage of the situation. They were transparent, showed us the codes, explained what they saw, and even recommended a proper transmission specialist instead of trying to sell us a transmission job themselves. Based on my experience, Monro was a far better and more honest option. When I returned to Pep Boys, manager Bert's explanations kept changing. His own scanner showed transmission codes, warning lights came on during the drive, the vehicle began shaking again, and he ultimately concluded the car was no longer safe to drive. Even after seeing that himself, he still claimed Pep Boys had done a proper oil change and had nothing to do with the damage. As a woman, this experience made me feel targeted, dismissed, and taken advantage of. Bert's comments about the female technician/manager at another repair shop were misogynistic and offensive, and his treatment of me felt misogynistic too. I felt like Pep Boys believed I could be misled into paying for diagnostics or repairs I did not need. My warning to other women: BEWARE. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! Get a second opinion. Do not let Pep Boys pressure you into paying for diagnostics after they create or "discover" problems that were not there before. A female family member heard what happened and immediately said, "Why would you ever bring your car to Pep Boys? Pep Boys kills cars." Based on my experience, "Pep Boys Kills Cars" feels like an accurate warning. I have video evidence of the diagnostic codes, the Monro technician statements, and the interaction with Pep Boys staff. A formal legal notice is also being sent to Pep Boys demanding preservation of all camera footage, service records, diagnostic records, communications, metadata, and related evidence. I am willing to update this review if Pep Boys does the right thing: pays for the full repairs, refunds the failed oil-change service, reimburses related expenses, and provides a serious corporate response. Until then, my warning is simple: women should beware of Pep Boys Hamden and consider going to Monro or another transparent shop instead. The image shown is by the scanner showing over 20 transmission codes now. They also changed the comments in the receipts upon getting a printout when we came back on 8/1/26.

My wife and I moved to North Haven from Wethersfield four years ago. I went into my local "previous" auto parts store. It didn't have what I need. I then went into this O'Reilly Auto Parts. It completely won me over. I never wetn back. Phenomenal people - beautifully laid out - totally professional. My most recent experience - last week - was I walked into the store - as I so often do - in need of some advice / expertise. There was a friendly young man, Zach. I asked him a somewhat technical question about a piece of equipment I wanted to buy. There were several types at a range of prices. Zach led me - with perfect clarity to the right piece at the right price. Then explained to me exactly how to use it. I walked out - as I always do from this great store - with a COMPLETE solution. Zach is a young superstar on the rise. Great attitude. Knowledgeable. Provides above and beyond service. his extra effort didn't result in any immediate dollars going into the store's daily revenue. But it solidified in my heart and mind why O'Reilly's is my ONLY go to store in their specialty. I recommend to O'Reilly's Auto Trader Corporate. Sneak in a video camera and train it on Zach on any day he works there. You could use that as an absolute role model for training others. All the Trainer would have to do is to edit the highlights of his day, play the tape - and turn to the class and say - "And THAT is how its done!!!". Thanks Zach!

They had a ton to choose from, and I ended up picking a Pioneer that resembled my old head unit. The CD player outlived my Grand Am and I pulled it out before calling...GUESS WHO?...to come junk my old Pontiac. After my Pontiac died, I drove around my mom's old yellow Chevy Astro van until that died. I bought a VW Passat and called...GUESS WHO?...to junk the Astro van. Drove my VW Passat for 4.5 years and when it was time to trade it in for a new car, I couldn't find the title. Since the Passat had a million and a half things wrong with it, I called...REALLY, YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHO!...to come junk it. They asked me if I wanted to know how much $$$ they'd give me for the Passat, but I said, "Nope, IDGAF, just come lug it away!" I'd already gotten a quote from another company for $250 but since Elm City is a mile from my house, I had them do it instead. When they came to haul my Passat away, I was expecting $200 or so but they gave me $300 instead. I'll take it! Someday I may actually be able to trade a car in when buying a new one, but until then, I've got Elm City Auto Wrecking!
