OMG. We have a new favorite Local restaurant! We stopped in for a beer an an appetizer after a cold day outside and left feeling warm all over. Two local couples had recommended HSG and it took us nearly two years to finally try them out. After careful deliberation, and input from the bar tender, we decided to try the Brussels sprouts and the Korean style chicken wings. The Brussels sprouts were amazing! I am a fan of broiled Brussels sprouts but these were a cut above. They were lightly battered, fried, and served with almonds and feta cheese. This one appetizer could be a meal in itself. The went perfectly with the Port City Porter, a fabulous local Virginia beer. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place itself is enormous and has a very warm and inviting vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We chose to sit at the bar and enjoyed visiting with the bartender who peppered us with lots of information about HSG, like info about Friday Karaoke and an in-progress trivia night. Also learned that there is often live music on the weekends[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The service was excellent. I especially appreciated the fact the our two fried appetizers arrived at a perfect eating temperature (not right out of the oven where you have to be careful not to burn your mouth). The bartender was super friendly and enthusiastic about the business. Finally, it deserves mention that the prices are VERY reasonable. My wife and I really appreciate that and it builds customer loyalty. I cannot wait to return!

I am surprised by the bad reviews. I loved this place. It's right across from the fire station and plenty of parking. I was there on a Saturday afternoon and sat at the bar by myself. Everyone was very friendly and you could tell that the others at the bar were regulars. When I heard that the chef was Greek, I knew exactly what I wanted. Not only is he from Greece but his dad was currently in Greece and it's a family owned restaurant. I ordered a Gyro and it came with fries. I also ordered the mac and cheese to go. It's not Kraft....it is homemade. The chicken gyro was good. The pita was nice and warm and fluffy. The tzatziki sauce was delicious. I also got a side of ranch - recommended by someone at the bar - because it was made in house. It tasted fresh and homemade. The chicken was a little dry but not too bad. The mac and cheese was a huge portion and was also good. I love homemade mac and cheese. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is definitely a place I could hang out but also be willing to take my mom there and sit down and have a lunch or dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The prices are very reasonable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They do have outdoor seating too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I loved the photos on the wall of what looked like regulars and employees.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I think they are worth checking out if you are in the area.

Whats more sad is that I paid $15 for something that isn't at all as advertised. I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Greek Salad as I love grilled meat. Never have I had souvlaki in over a dozen voyages to Greece that was wet boiled or microwaved, as this chicken seemed to be. Souvlaki are grilled skewers. This place should NOT sell the pile of bland, blond, wet chicken breast as "souvlaki." The "Greek" salad was sad. No other way to describe it. It had the ingredients of a Greek salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber) but the feta was meager and there were no onions. The tzatziki was more akin to ranch dressing (not made with yogurt- real Greek yogurt would hold a spoon standing in it. This was almost liquid.) ) and the pita was a doughy, cheap substitute. Their listing says fresh bread, and this pita was not so much. The owner seems nice and personable, and I wish him well but I also wish he would pay more attention to the product he delivers, especially if they call it, Greek. UPDATE from owners rebuttal: I write fair reviews as I experience the food. The issue is not whether you have fresh ingredients or quality chicken: it is clearly stated what you served was just not souvlaki in anyway, it was wet sautéed chicken and that was not traditional tzatziki. It was tzatziki-like sauce. Period. If you go to a pizza place to buy a pizza and you get high quality toasted bread with excellent tomato sauce and good mozzarella- it's still not a pizza, no matter the quality, and you shouldn't call it a pizza. I don't deny you are Greek, proud or otherwise, just serve what you advertise. Good luck to you too!

Best Greek Food in the Area - Hidden Gem!…read more This place is truly a hidden treasure tucked inside an industrial complex -- a total hole-in-the-wall that you'd never expect to serve such amazing Greek food. It's a family-owned restaurant, and you immediately feel the warmth and hospitality. Everyone is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the food is consistently outstanding -- fresh, authentic, and clearly made with love. What really stands out is that they offer a surprisingly large variety of options for vegetarians -- from delicious veggie platters and flavorful dips to perfectly cooked sides and hearty meat-free mains. It's refreshing to find a Greek spot that treats vegetarian dishes with the same care as everything else. If you're craving real Greek flavors and don't care about fancy décor, this spot is an absolute must-try -- easily the best Greek food in the area.

The flavors here are bold, fresh, and thoughtfully done, with a fun twist on classic Greek dishes. My go-to orders are the Medusa's Nest (seriously addictive), the Apollo sandwich (perfectly balanced and filling), and the Pegasus Gyro Wrap, which are hands down one of the most creative and delicious takes I've had on gyro meat. Everything is well-seasoned, portions are solid, and the ingredients always taste fresh. Service is friendly and efficient, and the vibe is casual but polished--great for a quick bite or a relaxed meal. Greek Unique has earned a regular spot in my rotation, and I confidently recommend it to anyone looking for Greek food done right (with a little flair).
