I'm writing this review because I take issue with a previous reviewer who said good reviews are just from friends and family. I am not a relative or a friend of the owners. We recently stopped by last week on a Sunday evening. The restaurant had lots of diners, as well as people at the bar, and people eating outside on the patio because it was such a beautiful night. Amber was our server, very friendly and helpful. Both of us had the seafood concasse. This was packed full of seafood including juicy scallops, and the sauce was so delicious. I will definitely be back for more of this in the future. It was incredibly good. I also had the house salad which had lots of fresh chunky vegetables and the best blue cheese dressing I have ever had. A+ to our cook for the evening, Sean. I have also eaten here when Adonis was cooking. Both seem to be very talented and creative. read more

Looks lovely from the outside but what a disappointment. Food is pretty much inedible and we've tried it about four times now. It is cold, greasy and disgusting. Service is ok but you feel like you are butting in on the staff having a fun time, makes you feel a bit awkward. I feel I should mention that on two separate occasions, other peoples' drinks were stuck on our bar tab (we were with a group of friends) My husband was the DD both times and spotted the "miistake" hmmmm twice is a bit strange and regret to say that we have heard other customers make the same complaint. Would go just to sit outside and have a wine on a summer evening or maybe not. We will just head to one of the many beautiful vineyards around here and who welcome us and we don't have to worry about getting ripped off, paying for the staffs' buddies drinks. read more

The name of this restaurant sounds so pretty and the outside is cute , I'd wanted to go eat here for years and just never got around to it. I finally went for lunch one Saturday with a friend of mine who was visiting from Richmond. I looked at the restaurant's website before I went and the menu looked good ....I was thinking this place would be somewhat upscale ....and let me tell you - what a let down!! The inside ambiance was nothing like I'd expected with a name like "The Beautiful South" ... It was "blah" at best....this place is more of a bar than a restaurant. It looked like I stepped back in time - circa 1983 "Cheers"... I was just waiting on Sam Malone to take my order. I might as well not even mention the food because it was forgetable, bland, and pricey for what it was!!! Long story short, it is obvious that I don't reccomend this joint!!! read more

2.5 stars We've been to this place a million times and the food is pretty tolerable. The Greek antipasto appetizer is always delicious. Their tzatziki is awesome and the pita is seasoned perfectly. The grape leaves are also vey tasty. That being said our last visit was horrendous. There were three people at the bar and all the tables were open. The waiter/bar tender brought out a high chair and I asked if we could sit at a six top. There were four people and one baby in our party and he pointed to a four top and said sit here. I said with the baby chair I'd prefer we sit at a bigger table and he said I can put this high chair right here on the side of the four top. I had to explain that the baby's hands would be in my plate the whole time and could we please sit at a bigger table. He finally obliged. We got our drinks pretty quickly and my daughter and her friend commented that the water tasted funny. I tried a sip and it tasted like a dirty rag. We asked for sprite instead. I ordered the mussels which I've had many times before. He brought my mussels and the minute I took off the plate that covered the bowl I was hit with a foul fishy ammonia smell. Still not sure why but I figured I'd try one and instantly regretted the decision and had to spit it out. I will say I have NEVER sent a dish back EVER. I told him I thought the mussels may be bad and he said "that's strange because we just got an order in". Perhaps I got the last of the old shipment. I ordered French onion soup instead and it was awful. It had a distinct vinegar taste which was strange. The bill came and my mussels were still on it so I brought it to the waiters attention. He took them off. The service wasn't great but wasn't terrible either. They had one guy bartending and covering all the tables in the dining room. So he did as best he could with all of that to do. He wasn't real friendly but I Still tipped him 20% because in my book he's not responsible for the bad mussels. As I've said I've been to this place a million times and I hate to give them a bad review. I will tell you that I had a part time job from April to November working outside for several years and we would come get a nice hot pizza on cool fall evenings to warm up. The pizzas are great and oh so filling. I can only eat one slice before I feel ready to bust. The owners are really friendly too so I want them to do well. So I guess I'm saying go try the beautiful south for yourself just don't eat the mussels or French onion soup! read more

I've lived four miles from Hamilton, VA for five years and have never set foot in here until two weeks ago. I have now been in there four times, along with each friend that was with me. The Greek family that owns it is so nice! A'tony, the chef and owner is amaizng. His pizzas are incredible. He truly captures everything you'd expect from a Greek family. Johnny, his brother, is the bartender on the weekends. He's so nice and prompt. I can't get enough of this place. Every weekend they're bringing in live music, and recently have tried their hand at karaoke on Thursdays which I have not been in for, yet. I took a slice of pizza home to my mom who then ordered to-go from them, after passing the restaurant for all of the 8 years she's lived in the area. It's truly a hidden gem. The feel is a little out-dated, but when you're venturing out in Hamilton, VA, the town of one gas station, I'm really not sure what you're expecting as the whole town is "out-dated." You won't be disappointed. And if you are, you can tell me to my face, because I'll likely be sitting at the bar bopping my head to an awesome band eating the most amazing pizza of my life and drinking a nice, strong drink. read more

This place is a hidden gem, don't let its remote location fool you. The food here is great, make sure you check out the specials of the day because they are usually amazing. This is a family owned restaurant so you will usually find mama behind the bar and papa sitting at the end of the bar. You gotta get to know these two, there are some great stories there. When it's nice out it awesome to sit outside. This is a great place to turn into your local watering hole. read more

LOVE IT!!!!! We have been here for closing in on 4 years and are regulars at this point. The owners are gracious as are all of the staff. The food is excellent. After my second visit, I know to never return. The menu is pretty impressive and it seems like they try with the beer selection. But let it be known you lose 1 star every time for serving warm beer. Expect slow uninterested service. Seriously, these people just don't care. It is bad enough to wait ten minutes to get your bill but how about making eye contact with the customer as you unceremoniously drop the bill in front of the customer. Stopped in the Beautiful South after visiting The Barns Winery nearby. This is a casual place with a locals feel. The staff was very friendly and it seemed like a lot of people near the bar knew each other. I had the burger, and it was perfect. Most times I wonder why I am even asked for the temperature of the burger since they tend to always come medium well no matter how I respond. This one was actually medium as requested. I had the fried onions, which are coated in a breading, which really added a zing. they have sautéed onions as well, which I assume are the more traditional onion topping. The bread was fresh tasting. However the hand cut fries must have been cut much earlier that day and were probably sitting in the kitchen for some time before I ordered. My wife ordered the blackened scallops, which I thought was a risky option. Usually they are cooked too much and become chewy or not enough at more upscale restaurants than this. Hers were done to perfection again. Bravo to the cook. She talked about them all weekend. However she hated the Italian dressing (oil/vin) and thought it tasted spoiled. Overall, the Beautiful South exceeded expectations thanks to the food that was cooked correctly and the super friendly staff. Consistently decent food prepared and served by a really friendly Greek family. The pizzas are really good and most of the other entrees range from okay to really tasty. The decor could use an update but there is something charming about the 1980's vibe of the place. The bar/patio is a great way to spend a Friday evening. I had called in advance to ask if they did their pizzas deep dish. The women on the phone said "of course we have deep dish". I brought a few friends there and it took about 10 mins for our waters to come out. As I proceeded to order a deep dish pizza our waiter becomes immediately confused. I chose to not waste my money on overpriced mids food. A lot of things need to change besides the name if this place is going to stay open. read more

I had never heard of this place until a friend was going to be playing a gig there. If you're not careful you can drive right past it! It's in a rural residential area and has a very rustic feel. The staff (Ashley, Don, etc.) were great, friendly and incredibly accommodating. They have some great beers on tap and I only had the veggie pizza, but it was awesome. Everyone in our party raved about how good the food was. With live music, it's a great place to hang and have a few beers on a Saturday night or come earlier and bring the family. An Institution in itself in Hamilton and with the charm of a small town the restaurant is unpretentious but welcoming and fun. The staff is great and attentive! The fare is interesting and very good-excellent clams casino, outstanding pizza and sandwiches, and the baklava is phenomenal as it is made in-house and served warm with the syrup! Another four-star meal here. Sat outside for lunch on the patio with my wife on a warm, clear Fall day. My wife had the sausage & white bean soup with full BLT (with much bacon). The soup was rich and flavorful and the sandwich was crisp lettuce, firm tomato slices and perfectly cooked bacon. I had the Kashway Burger with 8 ounces of Angus cooked hot pink center with blackening, bleu cheese crumbles, and crisp onion straws, and a generous serving of fries (asked for blackening seasoning on these and they were great). Ordered the pair of mussels, one of the specials. The broth was fine. There was way too much grit. A mouth full of sand in every bite. You're supposed to treat the shellfish in a salt water and cornmeal solution so the bivalves spit out their sand. This was around Christmas. My nephew was in that nutcracker thing. read more

To sum it up.... terrible atmosphere, no AC, terrible service, good beer selection. Our party of 4 had dinner at the Beautiful South Tursday and I'm not sure where to start. The place is dated, a bit run down, and seems to really depend on regulars for support. During our dinner we asked to move outside due to the lack of Air Conditioning inside (sorry, but one window AC unit doesn't cut it for a dining room). Service was slow... very slow. It took roughly 20 minutes to get new drinks from the time we finished them, both inside and out. To make matters worse, EVERY drink we order was charged as the most expensive one we ordered. Luckily my wife caught this and it was corrected... with a fair amount of attitude from the server. Food was good, and it seemed like they only carried local craft beers.... which may be their one saving grace. However, no one in our party is likely to return. Terrible service, a lack of AC, and extremely slow wait times are enough for us to consider MANY other places before going here. To improve: -Hire outside the 5 people in the family. Yes, that is excellent and respectable, but you simply need more people to effectively run a place this size. A trained manager and bartender would go a LONG way! -Maybe another 3 or 4 window AC units. Central HVAC is wildly expensive, but this may be a cost effective approach to keep people in the dining area. -Use some sort of POS system. There are a TON out there. That way everyone's check isn't wrong at the end of the night. read more

My review is based primarily on customer service at the bar and beer selection. Omg, it's so amazing to have a little local watering hole within stumbling distance of our new home. We love getting into beer discussions with Spencer and Adonis. They always have cool new stuff on tap, and usually a hearty offering of local breweries as well. Very very cool for this sleepy little town. As someone else mentioned, seems to be a great bar scene and a fun place to hang out with fellow locals. As a bonus, our resident Muppet Duo (our goldendoodles Enzo and Atlas) are welcome on the patio so that usually makes for a fun night. Food has always been decent, I really enjoyed the Mediterranean appetizer sampler and the Southern Salad with blackened chicken is going to be a staple of my diet. Their fries are hand-cut and seasoned nicely, and their pizzas are PDT (pretty damned tasty) - although the white pizza is our favorite. Where they earned legendary cred in our book was one random night we stopped by and got into a conversation with Spencer about the mythical Hopslam, a beer by Bell's Brewery that is pretty hard to come by (not as hard as Pliny the Elder mind you, which I somehow managed to track down for our one-year wedding anniversary cuz duh I'm the best wife ever), but still pretty hard. Spencer got this look on his face and said.. yeah I think we had that here before. My husband and I glanced at each other and started laughing, shrugging him off in his obvious ridiculousness. Minutes later, he emerges with a bottle in his hand and two glass snifters... we slowly turn around only to see that he has a bottle of nothing other than HOPSLAM in his hands. Jaws agape, we sit speechless as he brings it tableside and proceeds to pour it into our glasses. It's all we can do not to shed a tear as we sip it and absorb all of its hoppy, velvety goodness. Several minutes after this insane event, Adonis walks out to our table and spouts "Who got my Hopslam?!" all of us laughing as he tells us he just happened to have a few left from a case he had managed to obtain earlier in the year. We thanked him and told him how amazingly awesome it was to be able to have experienced this beer at his establishment. And that's how the night we got to taste Hopslam will forever go down in infamy as one of the coolest (randomest) ever, all courtesy of the Beautiful South. This is the closest restaurant to where we live, but we hadn't been there in the two years we've been in the neighborhood. We've heard comments ranging from 'terrific' to 'sucks', so we've been leery about going. We finally had the chance, when a club we belong to had their monthly social here. Now we can say we've been there...and we have no intention of returning. Apparently they were notified in advance that we were going to be a group of about 20. In spite of that, they were understaffed. The woman who was taking care of our group was incapable of taking everybody's order; she only took one individual's/couple's order, and then went to the kitchen to put the order in. So it went, until she got through our entire group. The food came out of the kitchen sporadically, and not in any particular order..I got my dish, then somebody else, then my wife. I had a 'black & blue burger', which was supposed to have some sort of spice to it, and blue cheese. No zip, and just a slice of blue cheese plopped on top, that was barely melted (and only from the heat of the burger). It was one of the worst burgers I've ever eaten. My wife had a bowl of soup, that she said was 'just o.k.'. I had a Guinness from the tap, which looked like a Coke (all fizzy and thin). Since we were in a group, a 20% tip was automatically added to the check (how nice of them), but the charge slip had the 'tip' line open, in case anybody wasn't paying attention...nice way for them to get an additional 15-20% ! This place is a hidden gem! They recently updated the name (Hamilton Station Pizza & Gastropub). Looks can be deceiving - for the longest time we thought this was a southern restaurant but finally decided to give it a try as we drive by it every day. We are so glad we did, this will be our new "local" hangout. On the weekends they have live music. This place has great, friendly service, good bartenders, and the menu is always featuring new food. They have a greek flair to the menu and the pizza, salads, and pasta is great. I also had the gyro and it was delicious. We celebrated my son's first communion here and had a great time. My out of town family was very impressed!! This is a place that the whole family can enjoy!! We even brought our puppy to join us for dinner on the patio. Too many restaurants around here are snooty and people think they are too good or are afraid to speak to the person next to them. Not here, everyone is friendly.....yes, the service can be slow and they may not be bouncing off the walls with joy, but it's real, the food is good, it's local, it's not in anyway fancy....but the food is good!! read more

This is without a doubt the worst restaurant experience I have had in a very long time. The menu would lead you to believe that this is a decent place, but it is nothing more than a local dive bar full of townies and mediocre (overpriced) food. I found it friendly enough and feel sort-of bad for this, but it was awful. The sort of experience that "breaks you" a bit and puts everyone in a bad mood. 1) It took forever to get our food (45 min + for entrees), 2) fries were inedible, 3) I heard the gyro was extremely overcooked and tough parts had to be eaten-around, 4) the pizza was the worst-- after waiting so long, we had to keep on waiting for it to cool, and even after 10 minutes, the cheese was just slipping off in a pile of goo. There were other food issues that I'd normally overlook, but in a final analysis, it was something else. I'm also pretty unforgiving when it comes to fries and cheese pizza. Those are incredibly simple things that should be within any restaurant's general competency. Waiting an hour for a pizza is not cool. How does this place stay in business? Do they think the locals don't have other choices?

Although the building looks a little out of the ordinary, you got to stop in and try the food. I love the pizza and gyro salad. If you like German food you need to go in the month of October and try their specials. The owners are fantastic people and if you have children they will make your kids what ever they want. If you child wants pan cakes for dinner they will make them. A great deal for your money, good food, nice sized dishes and homemade deserts. I know the interior is a little out dated but food and company makes up for the atmosphere. read more

On a recent visit to the US from the UK we were very excited to see a nice quiet restaurant featuring fish and chips on their menu. OMG... Talk about disgusting.. the meal was not fit for a dog or served as such. The fish was tiny, and dropped and cooked in warm, not hot, dirty oil. Resulting in a greasy glob of mush.... The french fries, or chips as advertised were all different sizes, but cooked in the same greasy warm oil for the same time. This made the "home made chips" soggy, or burnt... The waitress who may be the owner, was very rude has no customer service skills whats so ever. We did complain about the food, and they did nothing to resolve the issue. So for all you happy travelers going through the little town of Hamilton, VA... AVOID AT ALL COST -or it will cost u.... Not recommended... read more

I live close by but never went here because I thought it was just a bar. I bought a Groupon and we've been regulars ever since. Brunch, lunch and dinner are all great. We've never ordered anything that we haven't liked. This place has the best cheeseburger in Loudoun County! At first I thought some of the dinner menu items were a bit pricey. The patio here is fantastic: sunflowers, dog-friendly, perfect sunset spot; literally love it. One sampled some pizza, loved the crust, can't say the pizza itself was memorable. Also a good beer selection, not just your usual bud, miller taps. read more
