Awesome dinner earlier this evening. Service was great and food was also delicious. Large and open dining area which gives plenty of seating. Desserts were gigantic and a great way to end the meal. We got the Beer Belly Burger which has Iberico Pork Belly, Beer Cheese, Caramelized Onion & Hop BBQ on Fresh Brioche and the Vegan tacos. We also ordered the Brown Butter Pierogis. I walked in here thinking it would be 3 stars and change most likely. But with a tip from our waiter I selected a 4 star or higher cheesesteak. It contained real shaved steak, onions, peppers, mushrooms and provolone on a soft( possibly IPB) torp. On its own this was a great sandwich, but here it comes with great fries too. My uncle enjoyed his beer burger almost as much as I did my own choice, he even had about half of it leftover. It was a quiet time on our Saturday late lunch, but service was still prompt and very helpful. I didn't partake but the tap list did have me considering a taste of something. There are many local options on tap and in cans. Decor is sparse and industrial, but that seems to fit this location. Whenever I see American (New) as the obtuse descriptor of what awaits me on the menu, I usually break out in a cold sweat believing that the translation in layman's terms means we're going to put whatever fits into a microwave and a deep fryer and turn up the pain points on price. Well, I'm only partially right. Hamilton Tap and Grill is basic pub food executed well. I probably won't go for the steak knowing that I can make one better myself or go to a legitimate steakhouse and avail myself of a much better specimen. But I will say that my cheeseburger, fries and a few pilfered onion rings were terrific. This is low-key, jeans and sneakers dining with conversations permitted at a normal volume. Ate here recently. It has a really nice interior. The service was great the wait staff was very attentive. Arrived early and there weren't many people in there so I you don't know what it's like later in the evening. The menu was somewhat interesting and little on the pricey side. We paid $12.99 for the calamari which definitely had a different take. Perfectly round (not a good sign), breaded calamari on a bed of what appeared to be a mix of chopped cabbage and carrots, drizzled with what tasted like sweet mango sauce and tangerines. It was interesting and tasty, but I don't think I would order it again. I'm usually just looking for a piled up plate of crunchy tender calamari with a dipping sauce. Next I had the turkey burger with brioche bun, that looked warm and buttery. I'm avoiding obvious carbs so packed it away so hubby could make himself a sandwich with it the next day the next day. The burger was tasty and not dry like some turkey burgers. They had quite a selection of locally sourced beers and the staff cheerfully let hubby sample quite a few. This place is unfortunately a hit or a miss. The reason it is a miss is because the food is sometimes food and at other times it's not good at all. It is also FREEZING cold in here. The air conditioning is on all year round. When I mentioned how cold I was last time I was eating lunch here, they were unable to change the temperature because "the manager likes it to be cold in here for herself" word for word the response. The server seemed upset she had to work in such cold temperatures, but pretty much shrugged it off as "what can ya do". She was very sweet and attentive. The pretzel we ordered was as hard as a rock and we had to send it back. We ate with our coats and hats on I kid you not. There was nearly no one in here when it used to get more packed. I'm not a fan and many times thinking of going here to eat I changed my mind because of the cold temperatures and the inconsistent food quality. We were able to make reservations online which we liked, but upon arriving the place was pretty empty which was good. I'd rather have one than not. Dinner was pretty disorganized with apps and dinner coming out at the same time, and being out of key ingredients without being told or offered an option. When it was pointed out that that we didnit was happily replaced but did take a while. And management comped us apps which was nice (one of which was good but we were just hungry). The food itself was ok. And almost everyone in the restaurant did come to apologize. This were ok but not for the price. Please been to this place about 12 times and I have to say, the beer and the service are absolutely elite. Waldo is an amazing bartender/manager. Their beer is quite unusual and food is excellent, I can taste the quality even in their salads! She decided that the pulled pork taco looked to be right up my alley, and ordinarily she would have been correct, except these ones were awful. Pork was chewy and laden with fat and gristle. The corn tortillas were gummy and disgusting. I asked her if it had been sitting before she came home, but no, she ordered it as they were leaving and it was handed to her as she went out the door. Been to this place 30-40x. Bartenders (especially Stacy) have always been great. Beer selection is way above average. The place is laid out for sports bar excellence, with a very large bar and more TV's than you can count...and the food is decent. And yet the place never seems to have found its footing...and different steps taken along the way (new management, new menu, etc.) don't seem to have filled the place up (at least when we're there). So...when we walked in today, and what many bars call the "cleaning lights" were on (harsh, blaring white lights...COMPLETELY un-bar-like...and this was not a judgment call. The place was uncomfortably bright) we asked if they could dim them a bit. The bartender checked with management. Nope. No can do. Something about "it's lunch time..." (it was 2:30PM...3 other people at the huge bar) blah, blah, blah. The bartender was very apologetic. More to the point...embarrassed. 15 minutes or so later, the lights were dimmed. No explanation...and it was a great relief...but the damage was done. Get with the program. We like the place, and will continue to stop in...but this kind of poor judgment may explain why an outwardly great place always seems to be struggling. read more

Pretty solid spot, I came in on a short lunch break on my way south. It's almost hard to find it's right next to a large Amazon warehouse and surrounded by chain joints, so it was nice to find a local place nearby. It was mid-afternoon on a Friday so it was pretty dead, just a few people in the bar area and one bartender. The beer selection was pretty good, I gotta say I expected some more hyper-local breweries but it was most of the standard "bigger" NJ and other craft brews. Either way the beer list is very solid with plenty of options for everyone. They offer flights. I got the burger with the Jameson aioli, it was good. It didn't knock my socks off but it was good. The fries were very tasty. The prices were normal for a gastropub. I'd probably stick to burgers and stuff here but who knows maybe the entrees are delicious. The server was very pleasant. Service however was very slow. We ordered from the lunch menu that was given to us at the time we sat down. We ordered shrimp taco's $11.00 and wings $18.00. Both wings and tacos were good. I had wings there four weeks ago. The basket of wings at that time had 12 wings for 18.00. This time they gave me 9 wings. I questioned the server regarding the amount of wings. She said they changed the quantity to 9 wings instead of 12. When we received the check, they charged $16.00 for the tacos instead of the $11.00 that was on the menu. Our server said they gave us the wrong menu. We had to pay the dinner price even though they gave us the lunch menu. Unfortunately, we will not return to this restaurant. read more

My husband and I were driving to NY on a Friday, and we were looking for a decent place for lunch and some beers after several hours already in the car. We didn't want to just do fast food or a rest stop. We decided to give Hamilton a try, and we were definitely pleased with our decision. We both had burgers, which were well seasoned and cooked decently. Grabbed dinner from here last night and really enjoyed it! First, parking was pretty convenient since there's a small lot right next to the restaurant. The inside of the restaurant looked reasonably nice (pretty standard bar and grill vibe) but the AC was blasting so we decided to sit outside and enjoy the weather :) The beer menu, as expected, was pretty extensive. For food, I ended up ordering the beer burger (sans bacon) and fries, and they provided a side of chipotle mayo for me, which is always appreciated :) The burger and fries were both good! The burger was kind of leaking cheese and/or mushrooms everywhere so it was a little sticky to eat, but it was definitely tasty, and the patty was grilled well. Honestly, given the price point and quality of food, I was planning on giving this place 5 stars, but unfortunately the meal ended on kind of a bad note. Our server did a good job throughout most of the meal, but when it came time to pay, she completely forgot about us and disappeared. I think she was potentially serving tables on the other side of the restaurant, but we were waiting on her for ~15 minutes before we finally decided to pay with cash so we could leave. We definitely wanted to pay with card so it was a little frustrating. She seemed a bit nervous while taking our orders so maybe she was new? We are new to the area and occasionally are looking for new places to eat. Today's choice was Hamilton tap and grill. Why this place? The place and food looked good in pictures lol. So i really wanted to try it. What a disappointment. Didn't have the chance to try anything. We walked in.. an ice Box.. standing there looking at the bartender having difficulties moving around struggling to keep up..didn't lift his head once ..1 waiter working 1 table no attention either. Then some girl with black hair and a pony tail comes out of the kitchen looks at us then nothing.. we stood there waiting and waiting and waiting and nothing happened.. didn't taste the drinks, didn't taste the food.. probably 35 patrons in there..where was the host? I have never felt more unwelcome at a place in my life. Everything was going fine for the hour and a half I was there. The bartender was wonderful and helpful. The food was ok, not great and definitely overpriced, but fine. Then at 9:30 PM, only 20 minutes after our entrees came out, the manager flips on the bright lights in the entire bar and restaurant like it's 2AM at a nightclub. There were at least 4 sets of bar customers and 2 tables of people still there, we hadn't finished eating and there was no warning of last call. I just ordered a 14% beer and wasn't told I'd have to chug it. That's extremely irresponsible. Even the bartender was surprised by the lights, as they don't close until 10 PM. My advice to the owner is that if your manager is so tired that he can't offer a last call or keep the TVs on past 9:30, he probably should be working in a different industry. You lost money tonight and it probably happens often. Next time, feel free to just walk around and yell "Get the f#%$ out!" That's what you meant and we all felt it. Too bad my father couldn't finish your gross Steak Caesar Salad. How rude. Great way to get repeat business. My first time here and I'll never go back. read more

Wonderful afternoon attending a repast. We started with wings that were smoky and cooked to perfection. The flat pesto pizza took your taste buds to another level. The buffet consists of mixed salad with a wonderful balsamic dressing.. Next was mixed veggie roasted...sliced Beef with a wonder aju...two pastas were offered..I only ate the fettuccine a light creamy sauce and sliced tender chicken...I wanted more but I had already eaten the mashed potatoes. Walked in and greeted almost right away by one of the servers. Seated, given menus, and told he'd be back for drinks. We ordered food and then were given some  suggestions for burgers for the next time we come in. Which seemed a little backwards but we appreciated the sentiment. We weren't there for drinks but they have quite the drink list! Something definitely to look out for next time. My coworker and I both had their HTG Burger and honestly it tasted exactly like a Red Robin's burger... which isn't a bad thing, just not unique. The fries are amazing, hands down best fries around... crunchy, battered fries cooked really well and piping hot! Overall, not a bad experience. Just was hoping for more. Poor management! They took a reservation for six and that sat us at two lopsided tables and then proceeded to seat smaller groups at larger tables after they told us that the seats were reserved for a party of 40. No party of 40 came in the entire two hours we were there...very frustrating Edit.. this was initially a 1 star review but the food was ok so I'll bump them to a 2. The disappointing way they handled honoring our reservation left a lasting impression of unreliability due to a poorly managed front end.. Great place to go for happy hour. My wife and I were staying at the Residence Inn which was right next door. An easy walk. It's also conveniently located in the Hamilton Plaza strip mall for those who are shopping. The restaurant was a failure when it was Tilted Kilt, but the new owners did a great job turning this into a sports bar type venue. Besides the craft beers on draft, my wife and I started out with some happy hour specials. I had the short rib poutine which I highly recommend. Very well done using perfectly tender short rib placed with light gravy/sauce over french fries and then covered with a ton of mozzarella cheese as opposed to just cheese curd. Although they may say it's cheese curd, but certainly tastes the same. The happy hour wings were seasoned perfectly. Not too spicy, but just enough heat and not saucy. They were crisp and not very messy. My wife had the flatbread which was basically like having 4 slices of pizza. Nice job. Friendly staff. Even the manager came around asking if everything was good. Ordered chicken tacos. The first taco I couldn't figure out what meat was on it since the texture was more like sushi. When I bit into the second, I realized the issue, I was chewing almost raw chicken skin. It was a giant piece of skin and can't see why it was even served.
