Restaurant decor is old fashioned but has character. Love the green and wood color combo. The people were pretty friendly. The drinks were pretty good. The place was packed with large families and the bar looked like it couldn't fit another person so they look like they're doing something right. I ordered a salad with chicken , it was very dry and bland. My husband ordered chicken with mushrooms which was a little better but still a bit bland. We went here for our daughters 10th birthday. The family has been going there for years and have yet to have a bad experience. Tonight we had a party of 15 and had a table in the dining room section reserved. They did a fantastic job with the servicing of our large group. Stayed on top of the drinks for the table and not a single issue with the orders of 15 people. I ordered the Tavern Ribeye sandwich and a cup of chili. The Chili was delicious, loaded with the right amount of cheese on top, and the heat wasn't overpowering like some places make their chili. My wife and I stopped earlier this evening for dinner and some couple time without the kids. Seated quickly at a two top table in the bar area. Great little private table. We live in Chesterfield and this is a local "go to" spot for us. My wife got a giant quesadilla and I ordered the Prime Rib special. The prime rib was cooked perfectly at medium rare. Juicy and full of flavor. Wife's food was also excellent. We got the bread pudding for desert which we split. Came nice and warm and was delicious! Our server was attentive and hustled her butt off with our table and a few others that she was handling. I wasn't aware the management had changed but I see that from some of the other reviews. If I could give ZERO stars I would. This isn't the first time we've had problems here. Let's start with screwed up orders on several occasions, especially when they are carry out: left out items like salads & rolls, wrong meals like chicken instead of salmon, wrong pizza. They made good on it but it shouldn't happen often if at all. Service- long waits, wrong drinks. And now for the new & most aggravating thing: THEY WON'T GIVE CHANGE. So if you're bill is $22.06 & you give the clerk $25, you'll only get back $2. That's $.96 they're keeping, almost a dollar that belongs to the customer. If they took this much from 100 people in one day, that's almost $100, not given freely by the customer!! I've given them several chances & this is the final. I'm no longer going there & in letting my friends & family know. read more

The atmosphere here is great but the food not so. The quality is not the same since the new owners took over. I had a salad with salmon that was like shoe leather and the lettuce had ice in it. When I told my waiter, he said what do you want me to do about it, so I just picked around the portabella mushroom and left. So, if you're into American colonial times along with pretty good bar food and mugs of grog, this is your place. I stopped in recently for late lunch and as soon as I entered I was captured by the well preserved condition of the bar/grill that has been a dive for over 300 years. I sat at the rectangular bar and asked for the menu. It was bigger than anticipated with both lunch and dinner options for reasonable prices. I chose a personal sized tomato pie with roasted red pepper, and started a chat with the bartendress and the dude at the end of the bar. Both were open and enjoyable. The pizza was excellent with firm undercarriage that held its points and load easily. Bite and crunch were strong and the flavorful ingredients a pleasure to consume. The pepper added a touch of sweetness to the acidic tomato atop the bed of mozza. By the time I left the winter sun sat low on the western horizon and the Sons of Liberty were debating the cause of freedom in the back dining room. The shadows lengthened across the gold hued fields as I drove back through Trenton, crossed the Delaware at Washington Crossing, and tasted that crusty pie one last time at dusk. read more

Stopped in while driving around the area and we can say we are glad we did. Walking in really caught our eyes and was seated immediately. Well it happened I finally had the worst experience possible..... I have seen the worst possible service ever. I really had high hopes as my friends are regulars but I can only assume they order from the bar. Martinis were good! My Odyssey for food started at 6pm... by 7:21pm still no food. I expressed my concern that three tables after me have have eaten and the waitress responded that they didn't order what I did.... after I pointed out that they have the pork chop as well she actually went to look and said "oh" She did say it shouldn't be longer however not willing to trust the liberties being taken with my food after complaining I requested the order be canceled .... just like the soup natzi she promptly took my bread away . I did ask for the manager as I appreciate giving them the opportunity to address it before the review. Whelp second martini and I sat at the table writing the review and you guessed it... no show. I am thankful that they took off the charge for the food I didn't get. They did get they $8 per drink (no happy hour here). Didn't think I'd have to leave a review about this place ever!....but tonight we decided to order from here since it been about 4-5months since last we ordered due to the bridge on Sykesville rd being closed for construction. We received a phone call hardly 5mins after placing the order over the phone and a voice mail was left. Stating this would be the last time we would be "allowed" to order delivery from this establishment and that we would need to tip better if we wanted delivery. Not only have we always have been respectful n polite to any of the delivery drivers that have delivered to our house. We have always tipped welllll over the 18-20%, sometimes even close to 30% if it was bad weather. Sounds as if their delivery driver has my address mixed up with another address that treats their drivers poorly. And as always we never had an issue driving the 10mins there to pick up our food if their drivers were either swamped with orders or if they didn't have any drivers. Sad to say but I will never spend a fraction of a penny with this establishment ever again and its sad because their food is really good! read more

Service was great! Portions large. For some reason, I understood this was more of a restaurant and not a bar. Technically it is both, but more of a bar. It is one of the oldest establishments in the country and so the history alone was worth the drive. We enjoyed the antipasto salad, a giant quesadilla and a pizza. My forgetful mother left her purse there on the crowded evening of a holiday weekend. We were so grateful and thankful that they had it. While their food is very good, the service is terrible. The head waitress/owner is always rude when we come. She presents as you are an inconvenience to be taken care of. From the moment you walk in, it should be apparent why you're standing there! Once she begrudgingly seats you, the wait for a waitress is ridiculous. Then she gives the same answer when I request a waitress, "I only have 2 waitresses. You will have to be patient. We are short handed like everyone else." Yes there is the obligatory huge bar with pool tables in back for the neighborhood bar experience. Reminded me of Chicago where you could walk to neighborhood bars without the frilly fern bs. But here the secret is the menu. Moderate menu with good variety and solid food. Not a Michelin foodie place but a pleasant change from the formalistic NJ restaurants heavy on pasta, over priced tomato pies and the ever present pre-fab calamari . Many dining options with a variety of entree items: meat, seafood and Italian. Yet still offers lighter fare and a reasonably priced great pizza . Good sear on the burger not too greasy but not dry and they serve steak fries. I prefer shoestring fries, but these were crisp on the outside and like mashed inside. Brought my kids and family for dinner they have a small room to the side for sit down dining...Check I like the menu because it has the classics and they also have some specials that will surprise you. Pasta, Steak, and Seafood. The kids killed adult sized Vodka Rig and Fettuccini Alfredo. Chicken Francaise was ordered and loved. Mom got seafood and got scallops she was happy. Throw in a Ribeye for me. We all enjoyed our meals. Years ago I had a small event catered. Nothing fancy I don't remember everything but there was roast beef and mashed potatos. Basic comfort classics. It went over perfectly....Check Lastly, Everything is reasonably priced....Check It's not on a major route and caters mostly to locals. But if you're in the Northern Burlington area like around Bordentown off Rt. 206 or in Southern Mercer County like Hamilton Twp. It's only 15 minutes or so out of the way. It's worth the trip. I can't believe after living in the area for 6 years that we'd never been here. Tonight we had dinner. What a charming place this is! It's beautifully decorated and has a quaint, historic feel. Our server, Chris, was prompt, attentive, and remembered all our preferences without writing them down - a feat I never even attempted in my serving days. I had the special cocktail, a coconut cosmo (delish and well-mixed) while my husband had a captain & coke. He said it was a nice, strong pour. Bread was served and it was warm, with the perfect combo of crisp and doughy. We had salads with our entrees that were fresh and big (and the homemade croutons were a nice, tasty touch). I had the peppercorn sirloin and it was a perfect mid-rare. It was so flavorful I didn't add salt or pepper or -gasp- A1, which, unfortunately, I often need for restaurant steaks these days. There was no looking for flavor in this steak. This sirloin had notes of garlic, as did the veggies and mashed potatoes that came with. I really enjoyed it. My husband ordered he chicken francaise, which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had a bite and it was pretty great. No room for dessert. Appetizer menu could have more choices. If you don't like seafood or artichokes you're SOL. They did have a chicken wing special tonight but we weren't feeling wing-y. Overall, I'm sorry we waited so long to come here. Go enjoy a meal with someone you tolerate - er, love. Go with someone you love. Take someone you tolerate elsewhere. They wouldn't deserve a meal here. read more

First time to the Inn while visiting family in the area. What a great place. As others mention, the onion soup was great and the seafood fettuccini Alfredo my daughter ordered had my mouth watering, but she didn't want to share. She even took half home and had it for another meal. Great burger selection and the Jersey Burger was yummy, but after seeing the Chesterfield rib eye sandwich, I know that will be my next meal when I get back there. Stay away from this place, especially if you have allergies! We were seated to the right of the bar, in the room with mostly tables. We were told we cannot give you a table unless you are out of here in 45 minutes because we have a party coming in. So Immediately we were rushed upon entering. We were not approached by a member of the wait staff for 15 minutes. Once we finally were, we ordered everything at once. We ordered nachos for an appetizer and ordered them without olives. Our nachos came out within minutes and we realized these nachos had no olives, but they did have SHRIMP on them. So not only did the waiter grab the wrong order of nachos, but he put an order in front of us that could have caused a severe problem and allergic reaction for someone that did have an allergy to seafood. Luckily we do not have a seafood allergy, but the lack of care and consideration is apparent in this establishment. I also assume the table who ordered shrimp nachos, got ours without the shrimp they paid for. Onto the main course my wife ordered a steak, cooked medium rare. The steak came out blue, barely seared, and raw. The vegetables came out of a can and I assume the chef is allergic to seasoning as everything was as bland as water. We brought the cook of the meat to the inattentive, inconsiderate waiter (older gentlemen with gray hair) and he said "you ordered medium rare right?" My wife said "yes, but this is completely raw." I ordered a seafood Alfredo, and I said "this seafood is all frozen isn't it?" He said "well, we get it from *insert name here* and it comes freeze fried. If you want fresh seafood you better expect to pay triple that." First of all, I'm not sure if you understand what freeze drying something means. It's frozen, not freeze dried. Second of all, I have to pay triple the amount for this meal to get fresh seafood? Why is this even on your menu if you serve something that should be in my refuse bin? Nevertheless, we sent the entrees back. With a huff and a puff, full of excuses, and unapologetic, he whisked away our meals and gave us our receipt without a word. Terrible food, terrible service.
