Ok. I've been in this area for 8 months and I like to eat out. THIS restaurant has THE BEST food so far. I'm not all that easy to please, like this. Authentic Cajun food that is again the best flavor I've had here. I walk in, alone... there's primarily older well into retirement looking folks. We are back visiting & had to come to Hamilton's! We drove 36 minutes from Sabine Pass & have to drive back. It was worth every minute of driving. Michelle took excellent care of us & was the icing on the cake. I have no idea what the bad reviews are about service or the food. Somehow I missed taking a photo of my fried shrimp & onion ring "basket" which also came with hush puppies & cole slaw. I have big hands & you can see how huge the shrimp were. They have excellent batter to shrimp ratio. They were perfectly cooked unlike a horrible place near our Airbnb that we made the mistake of going to when we were exhausted & didn't feel up to the drive. Never again! My S.O. had the Cajun pasta. Unlike many places, the grilled shrimp were cooked to perfection. We will be back. I live in Houston. I can only dream of having a quality restaurant such as Hamilton's with the same price point in my area. People that live in this area are so lucky!!! read more

We arrived. Sat down. Decided on drinks. Dad wanted dry gin martini. Waitress had to ask the bartender if they can make it. Was informed that they couldn't. So much for the bar in "Restaurant & bar". Oh, but they could make a margarita on the rocks. The boudain balls for an appetizer were good. The chicken & sausage gumbo rue was not thick, it was runny and low on flavor. The gravy on the hamburger steak didn't taste very well. The green beans had too much salt and we're inedible. The fish was too salty. The Crawfish etouffe was without flavor and inedible. After our assessment to the server, only verbal apologies were given. There was no manager on duty who attended to us personally. Will be back here never. Y'all, Hamilton's Restaurant & Bar is so delicious that my family cannot stop talking about our dinner on Friday. We were in Mid County visiting family, and we wanted to have some delicious Cajun food that would travel to go to eat in our rental. We also wanted to try a new restaurant out, so I found Hamilton's on Yelp and Google. The menu is ample with great choices for every seafood lover, and for the quantity and quality of the seafood, I think it is well priced. All four of us got something a bit different, so we tried all the different cooking styles for catfish and shrimp: grilled, blackened, and fried. All of it was truly delicious! I ordered the grilled shrimp platter, and the shrimp were large, cooked perfectly, and so tasty. Everyone loved the sides, and some favorites were loaded mashed potatoes, fried okra, and the roasted corn. Even the rolls were delicious. The only small thing I would suggest for a change is the gumbo rice to be something more like a long grain rice like Douget's. It was a bit thicker more like a pilaf rice, so I didn't like that as much for gumbo. We will definitely be back to Hamilton's in the future, and if you haven't given it a try, go grab a delicious bite soon! read more

Ugh! I hate to leave subpar reviews but I am going to be honest. I did not like my meal. The veggies were the only thing that was amazing. Fried chicken lacked seasoning or maybe salt. The gravy was equally gross and lacked flavor. Mash potatoes were not touched because the brown gravy was nasty and I put it all over. Overall the place was busy and I'm sure they have other menu items that are great I just didn't happen to get a winner. It was super packed and the waitress was kind. Giving 3 stars for service. Ordered from Uber for lunch and dinner as I can't leave work during my 24 hour shift . Almost a $100 order for seafood four meat gumbo, Cajun pasta, boudain balls and chocolate cake There is brown liquid for gumbo with about 10 shrimp and did not receive the sauces for the boudain balls that you have to pay extra for. Cake was not included in the original delivery and I called and complained to the restaurant. Uber driver was gracious enough to go pick up the cake and make another delivery. The manager refunded the cake amount and I gave that to my driver. I have included pics of their 7 dollar/slice chocolate cake and "four meat " seafood gumbo. I am used to such good food when in southeast Texas but definitely from Hamiltons. How disappointing!!! read more

Over an hour wait, when we asked for the food to go it was another 30 minutes, the manager refused to let us pay for the food stating that we could get out or he would call the cops and for us to never come back. 1st visit and Would not visit again. Rolls are the best thing they have. I ordered a club sandwich which had the strangest tasting turkey I have ever had. The french fries looked good but tasted terrible. When I told the waitress the food wasn't good, she just said sorry. The other order was grilled catfish n grilled vegetables. The catfish was okay and the grilled vegetables were fine~ but cut or chopped in huge pieces~ like a quarter bell pepper. The menus seemed dirty~ wonder how often they are cleaned or wiped off. Pretty chill restaurant with attentive servers not a lot of customers here but I think that was because we just came at an awkward time after lunch hours. Well, I like CFS (very not Asian of me, I know) but I really like country fried anything and in this restaurant, they had both CFSteak and CFChicken so very tempting of me to order both for myself. So I asked my server for her thoughts on which I should get and she told me to get the CFS so trusting her taste buds and judgment, I ordered just that. My bf, on the other hand, was reading my thoughts and ordered the other country fried option, the chicken. (I wanted to try both hehe) We got our plates filled to the brim with delectables that at first we wished the plate that they used was a little bit bigger just so that we had enough room to cut our CFS and chicken without spilling and making a big mess. In the end, I liked my CFS much better than the chicken and my bf would agree. The taste of the chicken got a little boring in the end to where my bf had to add hot sauce for the taste to kick up and since my CFS was already seasoned and that before frying it, it tasted wonderful. If anyone has trouble deciding which country fried options, I would recommend getting the CFS at this restaurant. read more

I like the gumbo and the shrimp poboy. Prices are reasonable and service is excellent. The manager or the owner always stop by the guest table to ensure a pleasant experience. My only disappointment is in the carry out packaging of the extremely hot gumbo. The enequal weighted containers cannot stand upright in the flimsy plastic bag without a support base. If it spills its a huge mess and its cumbersome to transport much less carry out. Either change the rice container to something stackable or use a tight paper bag. read more

We came in with a group of four. The table was really small for four people but we made it work! The atmosphere and friendliness of the staff was wonderful from the minute we walked in. They were so welcoming and kind during our entire visit. Our waitress was a younger woman and she recommended the chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak to our friends and I'm so glad she did because everyone loved it. I ended up having an intense pregnancy craving for a hamburger so I ordered a big ole burger which was cooked perfectly and had some fresh and delicious toppings. The fries were crisp and hot and paired perfectly well with my burger. I couldn't even finish the entire thing. There was also live music while we dined and it was a nice touch. I think they are under staffed! We've been there twice during non busy times and the poor waitress was running her feet off. We have also ordered take out twice and both times things were left out. The first time it was rolls (no biggie) but the second time my husband ordered dirty rice and didn't get any. I called them and they were very apologetic. Took our names and said the next time we come in they would give it at no charge since we paid for it with the order. Also I we both ordered the smashed potato's and they were nothing but a smashed up baked potato and nothing else. No cheese no bacon no green onions! I made sure when I called in my second take out order to emphasize this but they still weren't as good as the first time I got them in the restaurant. The staff is excellent. Very nice and accommodating. I got fried shrimp both times and they were excellent. Forgot what my husband got the first time but he was happy with it. Overall it's excellent just beware of take out orders! Again their food is great BUT when you order take out be ready for something to be missing. We have gotten take out at least 4 times and each time something was left out. The person answering the phone taking the order didn't even know what was on the menu! But it could have had some okra, tomatoes, and bell pepper. And etoufee was bland as well and needed some seasoning (kept adding Tabasco). Oh, and the rolls! They are some of the best I've had. Went here as I am in town for business, and was happy with the meal. I had sea food gumbo, which was ok....tasted like there was a burnt rice somewhere, but hot sauce and seasoning took care of that! For dinner, I did the fried catfish (lightly fried in a cornmeal batter,) withbgarlic mashed potatoes (chunky, red, and delicious, ) and green beans that had bacon and a tiny hint of a smokey flavor. There is only one word to describe this restaurant: WOW! I came with low expectations and was absolutely stunned by the quality of food and amazing service. The blackened shrimp plate was exactly correct - the shrimp cooked perfectly and not rubbery. The loaded machine potatoes were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Having grown up in Southeast Texas, my memories of Tuffy's Restaurant in Mauriceville (when Mr. Hamilton was running it) were precious, especially of those homemade rolls. When it shut down, there was nowhere else to get them. Then I got word Mike was opening this place, and sure enough, he brought the recipe for those addicting rolls with him. Now if only I could expect to get home with my take-out order from Hamilton's and discover a full bag of those yeasty beauties waiting amidst my other food. Nope. No rolls anywhere in the bag. And it's not like I could've checked the bag myself before I left the restaurant because they tie it up so tight before they give it to you, and I'm not gonna sit there and fool with it for several minutes in the restaurant while they stare at me. And this has happened twice. I still haven't figured out if it's just the moody, inattentive teeny-boppers working there that forget to pack them every time, or if it's an unspoken rule that you have to ask for them when you place your order. But either way, it's unacceptable. Yes, I drove all the way back to the restaurant both times to get them. Presented my receipt to the teeny-bopper and explained I got no rolls. She told me to hold on (presumably to go ask her manager if it was ok, which she shouldn't have to do), packed up four rolls, and without so much as a word or an apology, hands them to me. If you DO happen to get rolls, you only get one per entre. They are so STINGY with them! Better be careful, Mr. Hamilton. It's the little things like this that will make you lose customers. Despite the roll fiascos, the food has always been excellent. I recommend the giant house salad with fried chicken added to it and the fried catfish. Make sure to ask for more of that tartar sauce - it's the best I've ever had. If you get the chicken fried steak to-go, make sure to ask for the gravy on the side, or they'll pour it over the whole thing and it'll get too soggy to eat later. The party I was with was on the patio and there was a dog running around freely causing patrons to feel uncomfortable. This place has some good quality food that is delicious! I had the fried chicken sandwich and French fries and it was incredible. I have been here several times and received excellent service. However, this particular time the server forgot straws after being asked three times, ketchup after being asked three times, and they began to complain about their job for about 5 minutes or so. I haven't had too many issues here in the past. Then on my wife's birthday, we get right in and are seated. The waitress was very polite and attentive. The review I am writing is regarding the kitchen staff. They completely skipped our entire order for over an hour. The table that ordered after us finished their food before they even realized their mistake. This was certainly a terrible birthday to say the least. We will not be returning for any future visits, and I plan to recommend against this place to everyone I know. I did add a star for their demeanor regarding the mishap, and discounting our meal. The place exudes quality ingredients with attention to detail and presentation. We get the shrimp and grits with Gouda and the shrimp is grilled and spicy, large in size and grits is great covered in cream Gouda cheese. My first visit here. Sat at the bar since I'm dining alone tonight. The bartender was waiting tables since it's slow, but she let me know she'd be right with me. I ordered a Vodka Collins, and she had to look it up on her phone. She did make a decent Collins though. I ordered a chicken fried steak with mash potatoes and gravy, and corn. The CFS was breaded nicely, was steaming hot and seasoned well. The potatoes were pretty standard, but no complaints. The corn was straight out of the Sysco can with little to say for them other than they were hot. The servers were all very friendly and made sure I was taken care of. The owner came by and spoke with me. Their live entertainment, a guy with a guitar, was pretty good with old covers, but only sang about 15 minutes and packed his bag and left. Not sure what happened there, but he was enjoyable while he was there. All in all, there was nothing extraordinary here, but it was a good, enjoyable meal. read more
