I've been taking my clothes to Hamlin for 20 years and have NEVER had a dress shirt come back with a crease. And you get what you pay for. I'm in there weekly and everything looks great...EVERY TIME. Very poor customer service! Please do not give this company your business. I dry clean very rarely so when I received a coupon in the mail for a discount on household items to be cleaned at Hamlin I decided to dry-clean my bedspread. Nowhere in the store does it say you need to "present coupons in advance" when dropping off - nor did the counter clerk prompt me for a coupon. Yep it does say it in super fine print on the coupon so small you need a magnifying glass to read it - but sheesh! So you can imagine - to my surprise when picking up my order - they would not honor my coupon. Yes, it was only a $20 discount or something like that - but that wasn't the point. Not even to make me happy - this one time, as a courtesy and thank me for my business. The woman (owner I think) told me that it was an accounting issue and she would not honor it. I was not only appalled by the fact they denied the coupon - but simply the way they did not care if I were happy or not. They bottom line didn't care or be bothered! I guess business must be SO good in this economy they don't need my business?! We have a choice around here people - please choose businesses that actually care about you as a customer! It's rare these days but there are other cleaners and businesses in general in Lafayette who are HAPPY to accommodate you. Happy customers tell other people about your business. Unhappy ex-customers do as well! It's a no brainer. She could have easily let me have the discount and told me it was a one time special accommodation. Awful, awful customer service. The worst i've ever experienced. I took in 6 dress shirts to be laundered -- shirts that I've had laundered elsewhere just fine. They chose to dry clean 3 of the shirts, adding more than $5 to the price of each. They didn't call for approval, they just did it. When i picked up the shirts, I was surprised at the price. The older woman in charge claimed that those shirts "couldn't be laundered", which is clearly BS since they are always laundered. The net-net: $29.25 for 6 shirts, which usually costs me between $10 and $12. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME WITH THIS PLACE. There are plenty of other dry cleaners in town. read more

Jay and his team have done an EXCELLENT job of taking this cleaners to the next level. I get my shirts cleaned weekly and have never, in ten years, ever had a shirt damaged, lost or not finished when promised--sometimes the same day. Jeannie had the business previously (many of the reviews below are from her time as owner) and she did good by me. Jay has definitely taken things to a new level--friendly, on time, top quality service/production, and reasonable prices. I enthusiastically recommend Hamlin Cleaners to all my fellow Lamorindans (and those who live in Walnut Creek, as I do now that my children have graduated the Moraga schools). NOTE added--I always get a spot in their semi-circular drop-off driveway. Hamlin's customers are very thoughtful to move forward when pulling up so two or three of our cars fit into drop off. read more

I do think the employees that do work at Hamlin are very nice (ie. Cheryl and Santiago). However, since Covid, the service has slipped and here are the reasons: 1). If you take your clothes in on a Saturday, clothes are not ready until Friday (six days later). Gone are the days when you could take your clothes into Hamlin before 11:00 a.m. and get the next day. And sometimes I have gone in when promised to pick up, and my clothes are NOT ready. I wasted my time and I expect if my ticket states a date and time to pick up, my clothes should be available. 2). When the staff got paid more being on unemployment, they left poor Jay high and dry. Therefore, you were not able to pick up clothes. Staffing is an issue these days. 3). The place is not clean and you see all kinds of clothes piled up and carpets filthy, and spider webs in corners. 4). Hours have been reduced so if you work during the week, you can only pick up on SATURDAY from 10:00 to 3:00 p.m. You cannot pick up clothes until 7:00 p.m. like you used to at Hamlin Cleaners. 5). Prices are high for the quality of service I are receiving. In short, the staff are wonderful, but I need a service that will accommodate my needs as a working person: have my clothes ready with a quicker turn around, cleaner environment, and hours open that accommodate a working person's schedule. Wishing Hamlin Cleaners much success, but I will take my business down the road to a cleaners which offers better service. read more

Excellent service and very friendly staff. I accidentally brushed up against a freshly painted pole with my brand new coat, getting red paint all over it. I immediately took it to the nearest cleaners, which happened to be Hamlin. I was so pleased that they immediately took care of the problem and returned to me a fully cleaned jacket that looked as good as new. The young employees were very courteous and helpful and the guy who did the cleaning really knew his stuff. Price was reasonable too. read more

This is the best cleaners around. Jeanie Hamlin is amazing, so friendly and does a really great job for a really great price. We went to Hamlin Cleaners when we lived in Lafayette, and after moving to Jack London Square for a year.. still couldnt find a cleaners with such great prices and quality of work. After a year we moved back to Walnut Creek and are currently going to Hamlin. Even after a year, she still remembers our phone numbers. 5 stars!!! read more

I love this place! They have a nice staff, cute decorations, and always do a top notch job. They DO honor coupons, you just have to give it them when you drop off your items - like the coupon says. I have never had them pick-up or deliver my clothes, so I can't comment as to the service or coupon usage when it comes to that. Another bonus is that if you drop off your items by 12, they will be done by 5 - I love it! read more

This is actually my first yelp review ever... I created an account just so I could share my experience with Hamlin Cleaners. My husband has been taking his suits and work shirts to Hamlin's for a while now - he spends at least $100 per month! I recently had him take three pillows in to get cleaned. We have two boys (3 y/o and 3 m/o) so our poor pillows have been put through the ringer! First, it took almost one month to get the pillows back. Second, and the reason for this review, the pillows that were returned were not the pillows I brought in. We have major allergies so all pillows had special cases to protect again allergens. Also, two were pillows for back sleepers and one for side sleepers. The three pillows that we got back were in new casings all together. All three pillows are now not allergy free nor are the pillows shaped for back or side sleeping individuals. Needless to say, I was/am very disappointed. We had never had a problem with Hamlin before so I figured they would refund the $35 per pillow I paid and that would be it. Modern day customer service, right?! Wrong. When I called, the woman I spoke with was very defensive. She made it VERY clear that this has never happened in the 30+ years she has worked there. She told me that there was no special note on the receipt that made it clear we wanted the pillow liners/casings cleaned and returned. Seriously? I was surprised that this gal was spinning the whole thing onto me. Because of our allergies and back/side needs, I now have to buy three new pillows. I asked if they would refund the amount we paid to have the pillows cleaned, that seems fair to me. She had to call the owner to see if it would be ok. She made it clear to me AGAIN that this has never happened, now making me feel like an idiot. I got a call a short while later and the owned agreed to refund $60 - not the full $105 I paid for ruined pillows. Ugh. The woman that called educated me on the process of cleaning a pillow (the casing is shredded as the contents of the pillow get cleaned) and how there is nothing they can do about it. I felt defeated and was frustrated that she did not seem to value me as a customer. I gave up, deciding to politely take the $60 and take my future business elsewhere. I'm not a mean person. It's a shame they put up a fight... $100 a month = $1200 per year. They lost $1200 worth of business over three silly pillows! read more

I am very particular about making sure clothes are pressed well. Hamlin Cleaners is tops and does an excellent job. Cheryl and Santiago are exceptional and the staff does a great job. Jay is very courteous and I am so glad he finally installed the computers in keeping up with the 21st Century and making service more efficient. If I ever need anything turned around quickly, they do a fantastic job accommodating my needs. Of course, most of the time, I am fine with a day or so waiting, but on rare occasions, something needs to be turned around and they are on it. Thanks, Hamlin Cleaners for continuing your excellent service to our community. Yes, prices may be higher, but in life, you get what you pay for. I want good quality and willing to pay the price to have the employees happy and paid accordingly. You want cheap, go to a cheap place that loses things. I went cheap on a few occasions, and they lost my favorite clothes. Hamlin has a computer system which tracks the clothes with a ticket so my belongings are traceable and don't get lost. read more

I brought two blazers for dry cleaning into Hamlins. This was my first time using their service. I received a call that they broke a buckle on one of my blazers. The woman on the phone offered no apology for this nor any mention of it being an inconvenience or something that I might be upset about. She offered to replace them with two buckles she had in the shop. I went into check out the buckles and agreed they would make a decent replacement. Again she offered no apology or any mention of fault in the matter. It was as though it was just a matter of course that things would get broken in the shop. She then said that I still had to pay for the dry cleaning of the blazer that was broken but I didn't have to pay for the replacement of the buckles. As though that was some sort of favor or adequate compensation for fixing the problem they had created. I thought this was outrageous. If you break something of your clients you should at least pick up the couple of bucks for the dry cleaning of the item that you injured. When I told her she should pick up that cost all I got was a curt "fine." I paid for the other blazer. I just can't see ever giving this place my business again based on how cavalier and inconsiderate they were during this whole process. It doesn't take very much to say "sorry and thanks for your patience" to a customer. Not once was I ever treated like I mattered to this business. read more

Won't honor coupons. I went here to get my goosedown sleeping bag drycleaned as I had a coupon. Their coupon says that it is "good with incoming order", which to me means that you have to bring it in yourself rather than using their free pick up and delivery service. When I went to pick up my sleeping bag, they wouldn't honor the coupon as they said I had to have given it to them when I dropped off the sleeping bag. I said that it was not clearly written on their coupons. They then said that they wouldn't honor the coupon because they washed my sleeping bag rather than dry cleaned it - upon which I nearly hit the roof as it is a $200 down sleeping bag, not something that can be washed. They then said, "oh no, it was dry cleaned" and went back to their original story of having had to present the coupon at the time of deposit - not the time of pick-up and pay. Very unimpressed with their customer service. There are too many other places that honor coupons and go out of their way to ensure customer satisfaction. When traveling, it's difficult to find a dry cleaner that will do an excellent job (They removed the "pills" from my sweater and made it look like new again) and get it back to me faster than a hotel would... read more

I went to Hamlin for over 15 years and never had a problem, or so I thought. Then one day I asked why I was being charged $5.25 for regular laundered shirt. They said initially, too big a shirt to fit on a standard press. I am a woman, size 10. Too big? I asked the owner to call me since the workers agreed my shirts should get the standard $2.25 price, but could not make any exception as the owner priced it. No call back. When I went back the owner again was not present and one worker now said "too small a shirt' to fit. I asked them which it was. The reality is one of the workers told me that the owner has a tendency to "charge up" certain customers. As my nanny had typically dropped/picked up, this is what happened to me. . Behavior by owner is shameful. Basically, the owners' bad management practice of stealing from good customers (those that don't pay attention and trust) was discovered. I wonder if they over-charged me for the last 3 years since my nanny was taking and picking up my cleaning? I would not go back here. The owner is completely full of it and I don't suggest we do business with those who take advantage and mis-lead customers. Boo to Jeane at Hamlin. Poorly done Jeane. This is the best cleaners in Lafayette! Jeanie Hamlin takes such good care of her customers. i had two unique experiences that impressed me to be a customer for as long as I live in Lafayette. The first was when my husband left a $100 bill in his suit coat pocket and Jeannie called me to let me know. We assumed he'd lost it at the wedding we'd just attended and were shocked to find that he'd left it in his coat pocket and that Jeanie was honest and called us about her discovery. The second incident was when my daughter dropped off our cleaning as a favor to me. When I went to pick up the laundry without the laundry tickets it couldn't be found anywhere. Jeanie went in on Sunday when the dry cleaners was closed and searched for our order and found it under my daughters name not mine. I felt like she went the extra mile to provide excellent customer service for us! I highly recommend you try Hamlin. By the way, they do an excellent job with our clothes too!!! read more
