A filling fell out while traveling. Hammond Pond dental takes my insurance and Dr Mantash made space in her schedule to fix the filling within a day. She was kind, efficient, and fixed the tooth well. She let me take pictures of the 'before' and 'after.' Would definitely go see her again if I lived here. Also, shout out to Mariam at the front desk. Kind, efficient, prompt, got me signed up immediately, confirmed my insurance would work here, and emailed me the xrays so I'd have them for my regular dentist. Gave me an itemized receipt without asking so I had no problem submitting to my FSA. read more

I am always anxious about a dental visit. I don't know how it happened, but this time I ended up relaxing as the dental team calmed my worries with upbeat verbal distractions! A hidden cavity appeared and my heart sank. How my dentist and her assistant kept me feeling less anxious was a gift. I found myself laughing and not filled with worries! Beware of the cost. I had a filling done at this office in December 2023. I just now received a bill for $286 with no explanation- just Balance Forward - 90 Days. First bill I received from this practice. On the date of the service, they charged me $88 stating that was my portion of the cost. Now they inform me the insurance only paid $66. Not once, on the day of service in 2023 or the entire year following did they inform me the cost of the filling was $440. The dentist was great but it's apparent that this place is out to make money, not take care of patients. Be smart and go elsewhere. The Dentists are excellent. The front office and business practices are not. After my appointment, I was escorted to the front desk for payment. I asked how much I owed. Kristi (?) told me and I paid. I then received a bill for the exact amount that I paid. Clearly a mistake, right? No. When I called to discuss it with the manager, 'Blessing', she said there was nothing she could do, it was a system error, and that I couldn't speak to the owner of the practice because it was owned by a corporation. Dr. El-Ebrashy and Jessie Jones, hygienist do great work. Both provide treatment tailored to my specific needs. I'm more than pleased with the level of care provided. On the other hand you will only get this care if you make it past Hector the heckler admin staff member (the god of scheduling and billing). Last face face with Hector he refused to take my deposit for a service in process. I thought he was going to have a tantrum behind the desk. Luckily I know how to deal with these situations as I have children of my own. About 20 min later Hector calls me while I'm driving home and asks me for the payment that he earlier refuse to take. Problem solved. Also, be weary of canceling or rescheduling. Be prepared to be shamed by Hector for canceling due to not feeling well. He tells me about their 48 hour cancellation policy. Hhhmm do they really want me to come to the office if I'm not feeling well? I don't think so. Once you get past Hector's disgruntled attitude I guarantee you will be pleased with services and treatment offered. Chin up Hector! read more

After my dentist of 34 years retired a friend suggested Dr Bishop at Hammond Pond Dental Group who had been referred to her by a dental specialist at MGH. I had gone to a well respected and highly advertised Cosmetic Dentist in Newton but thought that approach was too over the top for me. Dr Bishop listened to my goals along with replacing an old crown. The work was done in a highly efficient, professional manner and the new crown looks and feels better than the original. I feel confident in going forward with Dr Bishop's "gentle" recommendation for tweaking my bite to help correct "grinding & clenching". I had a good dentist for 34 years and feel going forward with Dr Bishop will be a great dental relationship. Mariam, the receptionist, is outstanding! I have to agree with other reviewers and say that not only has this practice gone downhill but it's also due to them placing their profit over their patients. This is a long story, I'll start with myself. I've been with HPD for more than 5 years, in the beginning everything was great, definitely thought I found my dentist for life. However, once I got deeply invested in college I stopped going to the dentist regularly, but consumed a bunch of candy/junk food, stress eating. After about 3 years, I made an examination appointment (January 2019). During the appointment, I was diagnosed with having 13 cavities. Immediately I freaked out because I had developed dentist's anxiety and couldn't imagine the thought of sitting in a chair getting 13 cavities filled despite the fact that I've had dozens of fillings done in my life. I've never been afraid of the dentist but something changed. The assistant who did my X-Rays was so rough with putting the device in my mouth I left with cuts in my mouth. During the process, she stated there was nothing else she could do to make the pain decrease, I understood but my issue was her lack of patience with me, she said "COME ON!" when I pushed the tool out of my mouth mid-image snap. I couldn't bare the pain any longer. I've had so many X-Rays done I never remember them being that painful, that's usually the easiest part of my visit. The assistant's treatment towards me COUPLED with her complaining about the layout of the room and the images coming out too dark pushed me over the edge, as I was in a lot of pain and that's the last thing I needed. Dr. Pitluck came in and I told her how I felt. She seemed so indifferent about my discomfort I was truly ticked. All I wanted was a bit more compassion. Dr. Pitluck left a bad taste in my mouth because she talked about how I needed to care for my mouth, but the way she said it was as if I had no hygiene at all. She kept saying "as a young woman" a lot like I'm supposed to be a perfect flower and anything outside of that makes me vain. If that were the case I'd never need a dentist. I brushed my teeth and rinsed with mouthwash twice a day, the only thing I didn't do at the time was floss, I'm not a nasty young woman for failing to do such. However, now I floss daily. Anyways, our plan was to work throughout the mouth, the bottom right, then the top right, and finally, the entire left side, in that order. This meant I'd have to make three appointments. Immediately after the examination I went to the checkout desk as I wanted to know my treatment plan. I asked the receptionist could I know the treatment plan, she said "you want to know the whole thing?!" like I asked her to code me a whole web application in a day. It's my mouth and wallet! What's the issue? First appointment was booked, I also got a cleaning this day. The total was around $300, which I thought was fair. The second set of fillings the total rose to maybe $800. I didn't understand why the price went up so much (I didn't understand the dental insurance breakdown which IS my own fault). However, when I went to book my last set of fillings that's when disaster occurred. I booked the appointment with Dr. Pitluck while still in her chair. We agreed for 2 days later. When I went to check out with the front end manager she gave me the breakdown for what the next bill would look like. It was going to be $1200! That would mean that in less than two weeks time I would have spent $3000 on my teeth. My insurance coverage maxed out. THIS is why I wanted to know the breakdown on the FIRST day so I understood what was going to happen. I was so upset. I told her I'd have to cancel that appointment because there's no way I'd have that money so soon. Instead of her just accepting my request she goes on to push me to keep the appointment stating that I could just get one or two fillings done and not the 3-4 I needed, that way it's cheaper and I get some done. NO! I was paying for an uber to go to and from the office plus the fact that those injections left my mouth sore for days I didn't want to be numbed more times than necessary, it hurt me! She didn't care, she kept pushing, so concerned about MONEY. I stood firm. When I did get the money the following week, I didn't even want to go to them, but I figured since Dr. Pitluck started me I'd just let her finish the work. That last session was terrible. She kept leaving my room mid-procedure to care for someone else, I HEARD her speaking with the patient, it got to the point she let my anesthesia wear off and hurt me. I felt everything and screamed in pain, she had to start the numbing process all over. I was in her chair for three hours for 3-4 fillings, CRAZY. It's now July 2019 and the second furthest tooth on my right has been extremely heat and cold sensitive, I think she drilled too much. I won't go back to them though, I'm going elsewhere for my cleaning and will address the sensitivity issue with them then. read more

I am updating my previous review from 2017. The billing department has been increasingly a source of great frustration. They communicate very poorly and send bills without adequate explanation. They also admit they have billed me for a visit for the whole amount before receiving the amount they will be reimbursed from my insurance. I believe the dental care is good but I am considering going elsewhere because the billing is so time-consuming and creates an environment of distrust for me. read more

I'm not sure who the negative reviews were about, but my experience has been only the best. Dr. Bishop and Dr. Anselem have cared for me beautifully over the years, showing great, personalized care. Recently, Dr. Melcer became a part of the team, giving new ideas for handling a complex oral surgery issue. While I don't have the history with him, I certainly have no complaints. In fact, he found a way to avoid expensive implants to solve a problem that long plagued me. Oh, yes, and the facility is state-of-the-art and the hygienists are true professionals and the staff is great. So sorry that there exist others who haven't experienced the same. read more

After six years of care from Hammond Dental, I'm finally calling it quits. I enjoyed great service from Dr. Pitluck who did multiple complex procedures including an implant and a crown, but unfortunately, I must agree with other reviewers re: their priorities for profit. Of most concern was their administrative staff who were highly incompetent on several occasions. For example, wait times were consistently 20+ minutes (with no communication about when you would be seen). The kicker was when I was told I needed a normal cleaning, which I assumed would be covered by insurance as always. But because of prior procedures in the year it was not (by mere days!). When I called to address the issue they admittedly said they were "short staffed" and "probably should have checked." No compensation was offered, and it was clear they just didn't care. Looks like I'll have to move to a better practice that does. read more

I was a loyal patient at HPDA for many years (back when they were still part of Brigham and Women's hospital). I was quite happy with my service until one day I went in for a filling and was told that my insurance allowance for the year ran out 2 procedures ago. I was presented with a $900 bill just a few weeks before Christmas. I was furious! Why had no one told me? If it was written on my chart (which it was) why did the dentist not warn me? I was told to that it was my responsibility to keep up on my coverage, but this had never happened before during the 12+ years I had been going there. They also weren't willing to do anything to help me (I was young and worked for a non-profit) and a $900 hit was a big one for me. I was forced to pay it and NEVER returned again. I now have a great dentist that's way more convenient and always checks-in with my insurance. I was very disappointed by HPDA and am glad I severed my ties. read more

She took the time to explain every little minute detail about the structure and state of my overall oral health in a way that no other dentist ever had. They take time and pay attention to detail. I was terrified of the dentist since I was a kid, but finally decided it was time to face my fears. When I first went to Hammond Pond, I had a cleaning with a hygienist who told me that I needed to "grow up." Definitely not what I wanted or needed to hear when I was already freaked out! Fast forward to a couple years later: called in for cleaning and explained that I needed to see someone more patient, gentle, etc. Enter Teeny! Seriously, the best dental hygienist ever! She was so kind and understanding of my concerns. Because of her kindness and encouragement, I finally had some much needed dental work done by Dr. Costa who is very kind and gentle as well. read more

The worst dental factory I have ever seen. Big, impersonal practice. The dentists do not care about the patients at all, they just want to get you to do additional work. All was good. Complaints: 1) I was charged $650 after being told it was gonna be $625. 2) I had scrapes on my lip and on the side of my tongue (no, I did NOT bite on them myself--I rested until the numbness went away and then checked in the mirror once I began to feel the pain.) 3) I felt the dentist I had before was a bit friendlier.... None of these are big concerns though. I'd say typical New England, Big Business, Capitalist Dentist's office (not a complaint, just an accurate description). I miss my old dentist . This one is rough, squashing my lip and even eye as he worked. and time will tell if his finished product will be adequate. There was no instruction for care of said tooth, nor did he ask how my bite felt when he was thru, just marched me out to the front desk . Not that I want to be his friend, because I do not, but what happened to "thank you" and "call me if you have a problem"? I also felt cashier was curt, and have heard this before, so wasn't just my take. But I also heard that the work done here is top notch, from people who have been here before, so I will take good quality work over poor chairside manner and hope for the best. WONDERFUL NEWS! Everything turned out perfectly with tooth and also dentist and office . My complaint on Yelp and on the phone to my dentist yielded the attention I hoped to receive , and the end result is perfect! After seeing a family dentist for my entire life who had the "chair-side" manner of a sloth, I was pleasantly surprised when a friend recommended Hammond Pond Dental. Dr. Cherie Bishop has been nothing short of friendly and professional every time that I have seen her in the past 5 years. She is also available via email for questions/concerns which is a big bonus in my book! The front desk is always friendly and helps me reschedule my cleanings when my work schedule makes life crazy. I did get talked into purchasing a Sonicare toothbrush, but it works great so no complaints here! read more

I have been with this practice for about 10 years and found it to be excellent at every level: administration, dental hygiene, and dentistry endodontistry expertise. I just had a root canal and was pleasantly surprised by how quick and painless it was, but this is consistent with each and every experience I have had with this dental group. So far so good. I've been to one 'check-up' with the doc and two dental cleanings. The doc seemed nice. I have not had another procedure done with him so I can only comment on his bedside manner - which deserves a 4.5 star rating The first dental cleaning was horrendous. I will never book another appointment with her again. I can't remember her name but I have her card and will update when if I remember to do that. Seriously, my teeth and gums were sore and inflamed for over a week. I have never had that experience before. The second cleaning (1/20/2015) was done by Ann Marie. She was really very good. I liked her a lot. Seemingly honest. Very friendly. And my teeth felt like they should after a cleaning. Another really great note for them is they have been very clear with the cost of any procedures with me. I have a cavity that needs to be fixed and the front desk was very diligent about looking up what my insurance would cover. So I got a total for the co-pay and the deductible. BEWARE... This practice has management issues since the merger of the Newton Wellesley Dental Partners. They are unorganized and have no handle on their staffing schedule. It seems like they just want more patients and the heck with customer customer service. Hector the office manager told me that even the office staff is not happy with the merger! This is my story: I am a new patient to the practice and made an appointment 6 months ago. On 2/14/2022 I received a letter that my NW Dental practice was merging with Hammond Pond Dental Group and that Dr Mike Mistretta was joining them. My appointment was today 3/23 at 8AM. I received a confirmation text from Hammond Pond on 3/16 and again on Monday 3/21 at 8AM. At 12noon on that same day I received a call that I could come to my appointment but there was no dentist for me? Dr Mistretta I guess didn't want to work there. I agreed that I would still come in for a cleaning. Yesterday 3/22 at 4:15PM I again got a call from Hammond Pond and this time I was told my appointment was being cancelled because the hygienist didn't start work until 9AM today??? Trying to schedule around Covid, work and family issues is hard enough. Needless to say I will be looking for another dentist. If this is what you expect for customer service when you make a dental appointment than this is the dental practice for you. Good luck! read more

I have to write about my experience because it was surreal. I made an appointment with hygienist Kathleen; she is excellent!!! (very gentle touch) a few weeks ago over the phone. The appointment was made for Tuesday March 10, 2015 2:00pm. I specfically asked for Kathleen and was told " the appointment was set". Fast forward to Tuesday March 10, 2015 2:00pm. I walked up to the receptionist and checked in; she varified my address, phone number and insurance. She told me " you're all set" The waiting room was full. I take out a book and start reading. I checked the time after waiting what seemed like a long time; it was 2:20. I assumed they were running late; then there were people who came in after me being called. I checked the time again it was 2:30, I had to wait for the receptionist to become available because people were coming in..... finally I walk up to the receptionist (2:45). I ask why the long wait? She asked me my name; imagine my surprise when she told me I was not checked in. WHAT???? She apologized and said the receptionist who took my information did not check me in and that she will talk to her (yeah right). She asked if I wanted to re-schdule. I was so confused; I said yes but only with Kathleen. Surprise number two when she said "Kathleen only work on Mondays." WHAT???? OK...... whoever made the appointment over the phone could have been distracted (not professional) but to be checked in/not checked in a face to face interaction is really really bad customer service. The irony is if you cancel last minute you are charged. Where is the equity?? I think after being with Hammond Pond Dental for 13 years it might be time to find a practice that value my time as much as my money. read more

I was so disappointed with this Hammond pond dental group. their policy is really nonsense. my cleaning appointment was on the 2/18 I find out that I can not make it so I called on 2/17 morning to reschedule, the front desk lady said they have to charge me 50$ for not calling in 48hours ahead of time... I was a patient there for 5 years and been go through alot of procedure, I'm a good credit patient , never missed an appointment . I'm just so upset for what they treat their customer and there is no reason for me to be their patient anymore.. doctors, hygenist are nice but not some new front desk people. read more

Honestly, I wish I could give them zero. At first this seemed like a great place. Near work (I work at a hospital), okay hours, nice staff, clean/pretty office. However, I had to have a crown placed. This was done by a dentist that then retired. Fast forward a few months and it turns out the crown was done incorrectly and had to be re-done. My insurance wouldn't cover something I'd already had that year twice, and the office said they'd write off the bill for both the replacement crown and the tooth lengthening. Before signing on to this I confirmed my current balance (zero as I had paid off the other when a payment plan), and two that it would definitely not charge me for this procedure. Now let's move forward, they've been sending me a bill for this procedure for 2 years. I've been told to "just ignore the bills they're sending as they are working on it." I've been told (every single time I call) that they are working on it and they will give me a call back. I think I've gotten a call back one time out of the multiple times this has been said. The crown is having issues again on top of this, and I was planning to go somewhere else that will take care of me correctly. Filled out the release of info twice via email and fax. Still have yet to get the records, and the records never went to the place I had scheduled with. Still really mad. I've been dealing with this issue since 2015. read more

I have gone to Hammond Pond for about 7 years. From routine cleanings to wisdom teeth removal I have been very happy with the service and clinical care. Dr. Feldbau is very good: professional, competent, and appropriately friendly. I strayed a few times to see someone closer to my home but regretted it immediately. I spent $150 for a Living Social deal that included a consultation and either the ZOOM teeth whitening system or take-home trays, depending on what was recommended. My "consultation" took all of five minutes, because I walked out. Dr. Feldbau was condescending, speaking to me as though I was a child, and an ignorant one at that. I am 39 years old and have a master's degree. Regardless of age, I paid for a service and expect to be treated with respect. Dr. Feldbau explained the tray system as well as the ZOOM system. I was not following him, so I asked him to stop for a second to clarify. His response was to pause, take a breath, and request that I "listen" and "TRY to focus." I told him I did not appreciate his condescending manner and he again told me I had to listen and try to understand. I took off the bib and got up. As I walked out he again said he just wanted me to try to understand. Perhaps if Dr. Feldbau were a better communicator and had "listened" to my question, I would not have had to ask for clarification. Again, even if I had - I don't care if I had to ask three times - he's a professional and should not speak to clients that way (particularly a potential one). I am calling Living Social to see if I can get my money back. I am disgusted. I do not speak to my kindergarten students like that. **Full refund granted immediately from Living Social. read more

Excellent dental care! I had previously gone to a dentist in Brookline who had a staff that hectored you. There is none of that here. Dr. Feldbau is a real pro and his staff is very comforting and non-judgemental. They also were able to take my wife in when she broke her tooth on the day before a long weekend at Christmas, when every other place (including her own dentist) told her call them back after the holiday. Very dissatisfied with my brief experience here. While I was under anesthesia after a tooth was pulled, I was asked if I wanted an implant. Having never having this done before, I thought it meant I was getting a new tooth put in. They had another staff member come in to give me prices. I was told 1200, 1500 if I needed a bone graft Fine. I said I don't have all of that now. "That's ok, you can make 3 payments" great! I did not leave with a new tooth, my bad, I should have asked.... although one would argue that the dentist should have explained this very expensive procedure. A few days later, still in excruciating pain I went back for antibiotics. They asked for full payment. I said I have never received a bill....." Ok we will bill you". Fast forward 6 mos, I received a letter stating that after many letters and phone calls, we are requesting FULL payment of 1900.00....excuse me?! I paid 300. So the bill should be 1200.00. To date I have NEVER received an itemized bill so no idea what they are charging me for. I wrote a letter stating all of this and all I got back in the mail was the same letter demanding all of this crazy money. I read on here that this has happened to several other people. Maybe they should be held accountable. read more

I was really nervous to find a new dentist when I moved to Boston because I had bad experiences before. But Hammond Dental has exceeded my expectations. They were very accommodating when scheduling an appointment for me when my tooth chipped and then have been great ever since. I highly recommend them. Dr. Costa is very nice and is always concerned about if you have an pain and always tells you what he's doing which I really appreciate. Dr. Amsalem, a periodontist, has also been great. She made what would have been a painful and stressful procedure much better. read more

I planned to have 2 crowns. In preparation, the incompetent assistant took 2 X-rays even though they had previous films. Because of her inability she wanted to take a third, to which I objected. I noticed previously this practice views x-rays as innocent as photos. As a physician I know much about radiation! To get the impression a sticky gel is used and then hardened and pulled out . Dr Langton in removing the gel pulled out an adjacent tooth stating that it had a large filling anyway. No apology. instead stating that I would need another crown. An appointment was made to return to place the crowns. I cancelled all my patients for that afternoon, providing new appointment times for them. Their incompetent front desk staff, with whom I had already had experience, called the day before to cancel my appointment. The staff should have been instructed about when I should return. When I did, reclining in the chair with the temporary crown removed, I was ambushed by the office manager demanding I sign a payment agreement. When I objected to having to pay for the work [ not the lab work for the crown] Dr Langton suggested he put the temporary back! He sat there, arms folded, & argued about the expected payment which I saw later to exceed $7000 after insurance covering 3 crowns, when only 2 were requested. I usually don't write reviews but just want to prevent people from going through the headaches I did. I've been going here for about 2 years and here is a summary of my experience: - Beautiful new office, cleanings were very good, hygienists seem very nice and knowledgeable - For some insurance, they require you to pay full amount up front and then they refund you when your insurance check comes through - this can take several months - Every time I saw the dentist, she pushed Invisalign on me, very sales-like (even though I've previously had braces) and I was just recently told by another dentist that I am not even a good candidate for it - My last visit was when I decided to leave. The dentist apologized that my hygienist 6 months prior who took x-rays never told her I had 2 cavities that needed to be filled. She asked me if I knew who that was because they couldn't figure it out in their system. - After getting the filling, it's been a month and I still can't chew on that side - got a second opinion and looks like the drilling was deep and may have hit a nerve. - I called twice to confirm I had zero balance due and all insurance payments were received and my account was closed, which they confirmed. However, two weeks after these calls I received another bill that said "30 days overdue". At this point, I just paid to be done with them. I hope you find this helpful! read more

Focused on the profit and nothing else! I was a regular patient of Dr. Bishop for 10+ yrs and she is great. But, no idea what happened to the practice - went down the tubes! I had to see 2 of her colleagues, 2 separate visits for emergencies. A tiny area on my front tooth chipped, needed bonding and was charged $575.00. I paid upfront which was fine, they billed my insurance (which covered most of it) and they never refunded me the difference despite multiple phone calls. The second time I saw Dr. Costa for a broken tooth - he tried to sell me on so many procedures despite the fact I told him I was an established patient of Dr. Bishop and wanted to keep my care with her. The weirdest dental experience of my life. Essentially, my whole cleaning was a marketing pitch. I sat in the chair while the hygienist expounded on the wonders of the Soniccare toothbrush (which you can purchase, in the office, for only $99.99!), the best brand of toothpaste/mouthwash, how I should spend $500 to buy a custom=-made mouth guard from them etc. It was downright creepy. She also spent at least 15 minutes poking a tiny plastic thing into my gums to see how inflamed they were. I tried to point out that skin gets inflamed when you POKE IT WITH A STICK, but she wasn't hearing it. They also tried to get me to schedule a follow-up cleaning for two months to check on the progress of my inflamed gums (see above), which I'd have to pay for out of pocket, as insurance only covers every 6 months. I stared at them like the freaks that they were, and got the hell out of there. When I returned six months later for another cleaning, they acted completely normal. I...don't know. read more

Care is great if you can wait. I started travelling a distance to come to HPD on a referral a year or so ago but got up and left after a consecutive appointment waiting 40 minutes. Setting expectations on arrival can make all the difference vs. Leaving people sitting there. This was not the case several months ago. Something has changed. read more
