This place used to be incredibly professional, but the quality has noticeably dropped lately. I don't know what changed with the management, but the experience with the new front desk staff has been very frustrating. Lately, I've been constantly asked to sign up for appointment confirmations, even though I have explicitly unsubscribed from their notifications. To make matters worse, the front desk communication is completely inconsistent. One minute they say they can handle a request for you, and the next they are entirely avoiding you. I'm giving three stars because of how good this place used to be, but the combination of notification spam and evasive customer service needs to be fixed. read more

I was a patient at this dental office for many years. Since moving away and finding a new dentist, I realize that a number of procedures I was encouraged to do here were not actually needed. I was told that one of my front teeth was going to fall out at some point and that I should proactively have the tooth pulled and get an implant which cost several thousand dollars. They strongly encouraged me to get this done sooner than later, even though the tooth showed no discoloration or signs of movement. When I started at my new dentist and xrays were taken, they shared that there was absolutely no concern about the tooth falling out or needed to be replaced. The staff at Smile Brookline are exceptional. The receptionists (Eli and Kat) are very friendly and helpful. The hygenists are very professional. Josie and Dr. Yi are the best. I cannot believe there are good reviews for this practice. After visiting a new dentist, I can say with 100% certainty that this practice is a scam. First, I had the absolute worst cleaning of my life here. The hygienist asked if I wanted novacane before she started which was the first warning sign before she ripped into my gums. I've never been in so much pain at a dentist. Next, the doctor came in and told me I needed four fillings replaced which would cost hundreds of dollars. She was brash, rude and barely spent two minutes looking at my charts before making this diagnosis. After visiting a new dentist, I learned that all my fillings are, in fact, totally fine and that there is nothing that would warrant such an aggressive cleaning as I have a healthy smile. They are obviously in the business of making money, not ensuring patients are healthy and treated fairly. Do yourself a favor and choose another dentist in the area. read more

I am always very apprehensive about the dentist, and they totally put me at ease! Even the hygienists were nice (which I find to be rare). After being told I had multiple cavities needing hundreds of dollars worth of work at Gentle Dental, I was very relieved when I saw Dr. Stock. (I really only had 1 that needed any attention at all!!) They have great hours (later on weekdays, and Saturday hours) and the receptionists are the best!! If you're looking for a dentist, definitely check them out. read more

Greatest Dental staff and greatest office and best magazine selection in the city. I have been a patient of this office for over 15 years. Dr. Stock and her staff practice the highest caliber dentistry in the city. The cleanliness of the office is top notch and the staff is always extremely helpful, considerate and pleasent. Every experience I have ever had over the past 15 years has been positive. The office also uses the latest technology and has a really cool machine that can make a crown from a 3D imaginag system. I've gotten a crown in 1 visit. This is amazing. I used to dislike going to the dentist as a child. Althought I may not want to be at the dentist, I have always left the office feeling good, knowing that the attention and treatment I recieved is top notch. read more

Dr. Stock has been my dentist for over a decade, all the way back to the time when I was wee child and she had a wee, private office farther down on Beacon St. On the vertical and chronological scale, Dr. Stock's stock has gravely fallen. It used be that Dr. Stock personally did all my restorative and serious dental work and played a large, if not sole, role in all of my cleanings. Now, at this new, bigger office, it's all about the hygienists and the actual dentists play a much smaller role in the preventive care appointments. I mostly only come in for cleanings these days, so it's rare that I'll even see Dr. Stock herself at all or get more than 5 minutes of face time with an actual dentist. The hygienists are sweethearts, but they're not dentists, are they? On the horizontal and peer scale, this office probably does offer above average dental care, based on how well maintained the office is, how attentive and effective most of the hygienists are, and my traumatic memories of other childhood dentists and getting my wisdom teeth removed elsewhere. But then again, this office does charge a fair deal more for its services than most insurances cover. The pricing goes like this: If you're getting a covered, regular service, like a semi-annual cleaning, the office will take whatever amount your dental insurance coughs up and not ask you to cover a cent of any difference between the insurance's payment and the office's standard going rate out of pocket. If you're getting a uncovered service, like a quarterly cleaning, then the office will charge you their going rate. When it comes to restorative work that you know your insurance won't cover or will only cover a percentage off, be prepared to fork over a credit card for a $$ bill. I think I once paid almost $100 for my share of having a filling done. That's insane! Let's not forget that good dental insurance is still a luxury in this country. If you're having any kind of major and long-term restorative work done, there are probably more affordable options elsewhere. The mandatory 48 hours notice to cancel an appointment without being charged didn't really bother me until the day I came down with a vicious stomach bug the morning of an appointment. I had been vomiting strange yellow substances for hours when I called the office to see about canceling my cleaning scheduled a few hours later. They said alright, but it would still cost $40, no matter why I was canceling. No excuses. $40 to not have a cleaning? That's like paying $80 to not get a massage. What if I'd had a heart attack or given birth that morning? Same deal? At that point, I just said screw it, I'd rather vomit on my hygienist. read more

This dental practice is great! The dentists are all females, and I appreciate their Saturday hours. They are very thorough here; my initial exam with Dr. Choo-Stevo was like 2 hours long (because they had to take x-rays). I have also come back for regular cleanings, and it's really not scary at all. My hygienist, Jennifer, never makes me feel too badly about not flossing. This is key, because my last dentist would guilt trip me like WHOA and she was also very rough when doing cleanings. Jennifer is gentle, and very nice. I always get a nice goody bag when I leave. Very convenient location on Beacon St., just off the C line. There is also ample metered street parking. read more

I had the most wonderful experience yesterday at the dentist. I am very phobic of the dentist and the hygienist at Dr. Stock's office was amazing. Sandy made me feel so comfortable and calm. I don't always take the best care of my teeth and they tend to be very sensitive. Sandy the hygienist, cleaned my teeth without any pain at all. She listened to me and when I felt pain she applied a numbing topical, so I felt nothing at all. My teeth have never felt so clean. I see Dr. Yi specifically; she always answers any questions very well, does a great job explaining what shes done, what she recommends having done, and does very professional work. Originally went here back in 2007 or 2008 because of positive yelp reviews. Had one initial positive visit with Dr. Christine Kirk who did her own cleaning and was lovely (but then went out on maternity leave). But on two subsequent visits the hygienist was WAY too aggressive with her criticism of my teeth and with the scraping and poking and almost made me cry. I had to ask her to stop several times and spoke privately with the covering dentist about it later. That dentist was generally sympathetic but the whole thing spooked me too much. read more

I agree with previous reviewer about cost. Lot's of unnecessary treatments for them to make money. How many x-rays do I need taken and old fillings replaced? (answer from them: every single one). I simply do not trust the dentists at this office anymore. I've moved on to greener pastures and have found other offices nearby who are more interested in helping the patient rather than just making money. I have had nothing short of an amazing experience at Smile Brookline. Dr. Yi is as proficient as she is kind and the entire team males you feel very comfortable. They don't cut corners with care and are very meticulous. It is what I consider an upscale office that caters to its patients in a very personal way - they cover all aspects of dental care so it is one stop shopping. Not great! So glad my husband and I switched. First, I do think Dr Choo-Stevo is very nice and a very good dentist. But here are the issues -1. Revolving door of staff. I went here for 8 years, twice a year- almost every single time I had a different dental hygienist! The office in general is really impersonal because it's so large. 2. They constantly upsell you on things- the special toothpaste, coming 3x year, every single thing, every single time. 3. Other than Dr Stevo, who is great, everyone's demeanor is unfriendly/impersonal. We both felt like they see you as a revenue source more than a person! 4. They CONSTANTLY criticize your dental practices in an incredibly nitpicky way. Hear me out- I am in my 40's and have only ever had 1 cavity and never had any other dental work needed. I brush (with a sonicare) and floss regularly- seriously. But every single time, they say, there is one tooth over here you're not fully flossing- or something. So happy we switched to a new dentist- magically we no longer "need" the $$$ toothpaste you can only buy at the dentist, all the extra other stuff, the additional visits, etc. read more

Don't be fooled by all these positive reviews. Read the posting from the family who thought this practice was OK... until the moved away and experienced a first class dentist experience. First, let's start with phone calls and emails. When it comes to an issue with securing payment from your insurance company, you will certainly get a phone call, normally outside of regular business hours. When it comes to re-scheduling, there are frequent panic text messages (business hours don't seem to apply here either) requesting a change to your scheduled appt so they are sure to maximize their billing hours... no regard/respect for your professional schedule. Of course you are expected to juggle your life to accomodate their billing priorities. I have never experienced an office that was so mercenary.... $40 for cancellation... even if you had been hauled off in an ambulance and couldn't give notice... and restorative work is far above the general average and they want it paid on the spot! Sadly, their results don't justify the costs, nor their methodology. Like drones, they do their work in a dull monotonous rythm... absolutely no personal niceties. Competency... very mediocre. The hygenists seem to be running the show... the dentists swan in to recommend the 'serious" work to validate the charges. Office Hygenics....very mediocre. Waiting room is quite banale, ladies/men room a little dodgy, and the treatment area a little shabby. My advice, if you must, stick to them for cleaning. Conduct any major work elsewhere. Unfortunately, they pride themselves on being an all-female practice... that makes be cringe... their competency game needs to be a lot higher if they want to float that banner and demand respect. read more

My wife and I went to this clinic during our time in Boston (over four years). Our primary dentist at this clinic was Dr. Amerlie Yi. Going to the dentist is not something you really look forward to, but she made it the next best thing. Dr. Yi, together with the assistants & dental hygienists, did a great job on our teeth. We also very much appreciate our conversations with her during our procedures, and now that we've moved 2500+ miles away we feel sad that we've lost our dentist/friend. read more

Overall, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable with good recommendations. However, I have to give extra props to Ann Marie! She is a fantastic hygienist who does a really thorough and attentive job, even though I have a lingual bar that's a pain to clean around. You can tell she takes pride in her work. She gave me some great advice on gum/teeth sensitivity and brushing technique to help prevent staining. I left the office feeling inspired to take better care of my teeth! read more

We have lived in many places and thus have had many dentists, and we were patients of Dr. Stock for about 5 years. It was only after moving away from Brookline that we realized how overrated and awful this clinic is. The hygienists were great -- some rougher than others, but, overall, we have no complaints with them. However, good luck if you need something more than cleaning. Some of the crowns Dr. Stock put in (less than 7 years ago) have started to crack. And, we are reticent to say this, but Dr. Stock did not seem to be very kind to her hygienists ... and conveyed a thinly veiled insulting attitude toward us as well (for the sin of having complicated teeth?). We could take the attitude if it was accompanied by top-notch care (e.g., I had a terrific orthodontist who nonetheless had a sadistic edge), and we have been to a worse dental office in the Boston area, but we are here to tell you that you just might be able to do better. We have since had two dentists whose skills and humaneness put this clinic to shame. read more

Ive been goin to Dr. Stock for about 8 years now and while I always thought something was a bit off with my dental visits, I didnt quite realize how off they were until speaking out loud about my experiences to friends and later two other dentists and thus realizing Ive been ripped off and caused unnecessary pain and frustration. I figured that I trusted my dentist and if she felt a procedure was necessary, who was I to question it. Throughout the eight years, I have been put through a number of unnecessary dental procedures, pain and suffering. One thing after another, whether it be replacing all of my old metal cavities to white ones (totally unnecessary), to medicated fillings for every cavity only to go back in three months for the real filling to Dr. Stock "messing up" on two seperate procedures, requiring unnecessary pain and for me to schedule yet another appt for her to take another crack at fixing the problem. She is also always rushing and makes me nervous or at other times, Ive been left to sit in a chair for over 45 mins just waiting for her to come back after the novicaine. Theyve also messed up my billing. They are overpriced, reccommend unnecessary procedures , push other things on you nonstop like invisalign, and the hygenists are way too thorough poking and scraping in every single nook and cranny even when wincin in clear pain. I feel like she is simply out to get your money and the insurance companies money and has no respect that your teeth are precious, need to be treated that way and that we are not made of money. read more
