In a two-word summary? Dishonest advertising! Gave me the ol' "bait & switch" Drove 1.5 hrs for a specific vehicle. The vehicle price was listed on Auto Trader, then I reviewed the listing on their website. We set up the appointment and visited the dealer. A sales rep allowed us to test drive the car, then offered to repair the minor issues we found. The car itself was a five year old car with 69k miles on it. It was in very good condition. The price listed was competitive. After the test-drive, we went into the office with the sales rep. We told the rep we were paying "cash" (check) and would not be financing (they encouraged us to finance and said we could pay it off early, but after questioning we found out that the earliest payoff would be 6 months). Anyway, the rep disappeared into the other room for a while, then cam back with a sheet of paper that had the advertised price with SEVERAL OTHER LINES OF LARGE FEES added to it, including "certified vehicle cost" and a handful of other fees. These fees totaled $3,547 dollars on a $21,999 advertised sales price (over 16%)! I don't have a problem with sellers/dealers adding reasonable fees, so long as these are CLEARLY disclosed (without "hiding them in very small print or on pages you have to click hyperlinks to get to). THESE FEES WERE NOT DISCLOSED ON THEIR WEBSITE OR AUTO TRADER's website. I am not an experienced used-car buyer and the next time I'm in the market for a used/pre-owned vehicle, I will be sure to ask those questions before visiting the dealership, but such tactics are not honest. We left the dealership without purchasing because now the price went from a "good deal" (per KBB) to a fair/poor deal. I wasted 5 hours of my life on this bad experience. So why am I giving the rating a "2" instead of a "1"? Because other than the failure to disclose the 16% ($3.5k) "markup", they were nice people, particularly the sales guy. But that decision was not made at the salesperson level (at least not without the knowledge of executive management/ownership). A manager/supervisor who came over the desk after the salesperson summoned him said that this was a regular practice. In my own line of business, this is not considered "normal", honest, and a good business practice! TOTAL HONESTY/INTEGRITY is always the best way to run a business! I did end up purchasing a vehicle from another source, and I'm very happy with it (the TOTAL prices was clearly noted!). So what did Hampstead gain from that? Maybe they sold that vehicle for the price they wanted, but in the long-term, those advertising/business practices rarely work out in business's favor!

Purchase Sheet w/$8,000 mark-up, junk fees and over charges

WARNING: Undisclosed Frame Condition & $8,000 Mandatory Fees on Stock ID: LGA012422. In late June 2026 I chose not to move forward with purchasing a vehicle here after my research revealed a major safety concern. While the CARFAX report showed a clean history, my research discovered a reported JB Weld repair on the driver-side frame rail. In my opinion, this indicates prior structural damage that could potentially compromise the vehicle's crash safety. I brought this to management's attention, but the vehicle remained available for sale without written disclosure of this condition. Additionally, the dealership attempted to add a non-optional $7,995 "Hampstead Preowned Certification" (HPO) charge on top of the advertised price. That's a 26% markup. When I objected, management explicitly stated this markup was mandatory. Under Maryland consumer protection laws, dealerships are required to include all non-optional charges in their advertised price. I was advised the $7,995 HPO certification is only applicable at their specific location and only valid for 4 months or 4,000 miles. Other proposed fees presented during the purchase process: $55 License fee $499 Freight fee (no shipment was requested) $397.50 Registration fee (official Virginia base registration is closer to $41-$46 plus standard local fuel/hybrid fees) $100 Title fee (the official Virginia DMV original title fee is $15) $799 Doc Fee$150 Out-of-State Tag Surcharge fee The $29,985 car purchase appeared to cost nearly $42,573 after tax and fees. Because the dealership would not sell the car at the advertised price, the deal fell through late on a Friday night. This left me stranded 92 miles from home, forcing me to pay $339 out-of-pocket for an emergency Lyft ride. Management has not reimbursed me for these expenses. I highly recommend getting an independent inspection before buying from this lot and watch out for mandatory/hidden fees. The only positive: the Hampstead Preowned staff are very friendly and professional; the sales tactics are the issue. In the first half of August 2026, they received four 1-Star reviews. Read through them and make up your own mind.

I had a generally positive experience with this dealership the staff was friendly, helpful, and easy to work with, and the car itself runs great. However, I'm extremely disappointed that the rear window defroster was damaged due to improper tint removal before the sale. It's clear a blade/scraper was used, which ruined the defroster lines, and now it no longer works at all. That's not a small issue, and it should have been handled properly before selling the vehicle. Overall, good customer service but this kind of damage shouldn't happen.

Why is she highlighting each BS fee LOL

I was greeted promptly by Ron who immediately set up a demonstration drive. I came to the conclusion that this was the vehicle for me. I have been to other dealerships in my past. I would spend 4-6 hours just trying to get financing. Not here! I arrived at 10:30 AM and was out the door by 13:30. Many places would have required a huge down payment. I had no huge amount of money in savings. I came up $500. The financial wizard Darren worked with me. All in all, everything was transparent, there was no rushing me, and I walked out the door with the keys to my new ride. Thank you Manchester Motors for working with me!

By the time I went in, it had been sitting on their lot for 190 days. I sent an inquiry early that morning and got a response confirming it was still available. When I asked for the out-the-door price, I was handed off to the Sales Consultant/Business Development Manager, who sent the numbers. I made a counteroffer. Their response? "That's not even close." No conversation, no negotiation -- just a quick, dismissive reply. I was expecting at least a counter-proposal or a "today only" offer. I went in anyway to test drive the vehicle without an appointment. After the drive, I was ready to move forward, but I wanted a new inspection since the last one was five months ago. The tires showed wear, and the low tire pressure light was on. I was told that could be arranged -- but only if I signed that night. I mentioned I'm a veteran and pre-approved through USAA. That's when things changed. The Sales Manager told me they don't accept USAA pre-approvals and that I'd have to finance through them. I was also told a wholesale buyer was coming the next morning. So I left. About an hour and a half later, I checked the website and saw the price had gone up $3,000 -- after months of consistent pricing, and even discounts. Over the next couple of days, they called, emailed, and left voicemails saying the vehicle was still available, inviting me back. I thought it was supposed to be sold the next morning? The whole experience felt off -- pressured to sign immediately, blocked from using my own financing, conflicting information, and sloppy communication with multiple typos. It just didn't sit right. Buyers should be cautious.
