Terrible food. Ordered grilled cheese with tomato and bacon . Toast was really dark could not find tomato very little cheese was more like an over cooked bacon sandwich Husband had meatloaf dinner. It was really bad they must have dumped every spice in the kitchen in it. He could not eat it and had indigestion for hours. Also where was the regular staff? No Americans. I decided to stop by this spot after a gig in Newton. Decor is typical northeast diner. I ordered the Bella Nutella Waffle and it was absolutely delicious! Been wanting to come here for some time and since I had some family visiting, wanted to try something new with them. It was a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed but luckily we were seated promptly when we entered by the host. The place is bright with a lot of seating. Started off with coffee which was good. This past Friday, January 9 we actually went to Newton division of motor vehicle inspection station to get our car inspected and after we were done, we went to the Hampton Diner, which is one of our favorites if not our favorite in Newton New Jersey Sarah waited on us and she was absolutely amazing. The food was great came out quickly. It was nice and hot and I had the turkey sausage which was very good. My wife had eggs Benedict and it was excellent. Hampton diner is OK. I would not make a special trip to come here but if I'm in the area again I would go back. I liked our server and how quickly the food came out. The diner was decorated beautifully for Christmas and it was inviting to sit in the booth and look at all the pretty lights and ornaments. I think the prices were a little high for the quality. Meals here cost more than at the other diners I go to but it's the same basic food. It was standard eggs sausage and hash browns, done correctly but nothing special. One little 6 ounce cup of decaf coffee cost $2.79 and there were no free refills. read more

The first time I went in, it was phenomenal! Our waiter, I believe his name was Ciro, was very attentive and kind. We were sat instantly, served quick, and all the food seemed fresh. I got Mac & Cheese, while my mom got a Turkey Burger. It was awesome! We went back the next time, it was great again! Not to mention, the ambience and atmosphere was very welcoming and classic-modern diner style. Meanwhile, our experience today was different. For a while, it was our favorite diner, until now. We got a very nice and attentive lady, she yet again seated us quick and we were still served quickly, however this time it was different. The turkey burger looked like a frozen chicken patty, and when we asked the lady she said "Turkey burger?" along with a quick giggle and walked away. My Mac N Cheese (could've been because I got the homemade one this time) tasted sour, it was good though on the other hand. The motza ball soup was very good though. Then, once we went up to pay there was another guy that took our card, seemed like the assistant manager, and then another guy, most likely the manager or owner came along and we told him about our food, then the other assistant stepped back in and said "Oh, we set a high expectation and now we failed?" which seemed sarcastic to me, however I could be wrong. There's so much to see as soon as you get to the door. There's an area for little kids. Video games. All those amazing looking decorative cakes and desserts. Those precious black and white cookies tempting me. They had a delicious looking carrot cake, sinful looking cheesecake and rice pudding!! But I'm an adult and I'm supposed to eat my food first , right? I ordered a nice chicken avocado sandwich & And my friend ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. Two hot teas too! We decided to check this place out a few days ago. We walked in and it had that diner feel, which we had not had in a long time. You definitely do not see places like this in San Antonio. The menu was big and was not sure what to get. We made our choices. I ordered the meat loaf but it had a specific guys name. Which I struggle to remember right now. The plate was huge. I could not finish it. The meat, potatoes and all were great. The waitress was efficient, kind, and had gave great recommendations. Best diner in the area. We have enjoyed several meals & always ask for the waiter John when we go as he is great with the service. Most recently we both enjoyed the Greek salad - chock full of goodies & everything is chopped. They give you plenty of anchovies & the stuffed grape leaves are delish. I've always had a lot of good things to say about Hampton Diner, and still do! Absolutely the best diner in the Augusta/Branchville/Newton/Sussex area by far. Service remains quick as a whip, with professionals (cooks and wait staff) who are great at what they do. Everyone has always been very friendly to my family, and they even allowed me to post a creative flier on their glass wall for several weeks. The one problem over the past few years has been the prices. $15 for a wrap with fries? It's very over the top. I took my 5 year old daughter to lunch the other day and the bill was something like $50. In NJ, you expect high prices. I don't expect to find a sandwich most places for $6 or $7. But above $12 and you get into ridiculous territory. For a diner, where meals are quick, easy, and in theory affordable, it becomes more challenging as a family to dine here. I have two children and another on the way. It's not going to be financially viable to eat at Hampton very often, when you can order the same type of food at the Airport Diner or Jumboland for 25-50% less cost. Neither of those diners, which I also like, are as good. But you can't pay an arm and a leg for a grilled cheese sandwich. I can't tell if the rising costs are due to generalized inflation or Hampton's tax evasion problem from 2022, but it sure seems the buck has been passed on to the customer. read more

My meal was what you would expect from a traditional diner. Classic diner atmosphere, generous portions and great value for the money I spent. The fettuccini carbonara was not the best I ever had but it is a diner and I was only able to eat about half of it after consuming a great side salad and the garlic bread that accompanied the entree. The stand out here was the service. Sean was perfect. He was super fast with the food and checked in on me just the right amount of times. I didn't have to look up once. When I was done with my salad he was there to take my plate and next thing I know my piping hot meal was sitting in front of me. Driving down from the snow country, my wife and I decided to stop in for dinner on the way home. I ordered a ribeye steak with all the trimmings, the meal was very good. The one drawback that I would like to report is that the restaurant's steak knives are horrible. In my opinion, they are more like ordinary cheap restaurant knives rather than a dedicated steak knife. I understand that post-pandemic everything all focus has gone to the bottom line but really to serve a decent steak without a proper knife is unacceptable. NOTE TO MANAGEMENT, when a customer orders a steak please provide a decent steak knife. read more

Its always fun to try a new diner. I have never been here before but I did hear about this place from other family members who come here when they are in the area. They kept telling me how great this place was. Its really a typical diner with booths, tables, and counter seating. They have a pretty large menu and everything looked delicious so it took me a little while to decide what I wanted. I was also looking around to see what other people ordered. It really seemed like everyone was ordering from their dinner specials and everything looked so good. Their dinner specials included soup or salad with a desert. We ordered their penne vodka which was really a generous portion, stuffed flounder with fresh steamed vegetables with mashed potato and chicken salad sandwich with bacon and waffle fries. The desert for the day was their Boston cream cake :D which is definitely something I would have ordered anyway but it's a bonus because it came with my dinner special. They do have a nice selection of deserts. Before I left I also ordered a couple of large cookies to go (chocolate chip, almond horn). I am definitely coming back here when I am in the area again hopefully on a Thursdays I read on their menu that they offer BBQ Ribs and I was told their ribs were really good. I've been going to diners most of my adult life. I live very close to this diner and was hopeful that it was just as good as others I've been to. I got a gyro, and my boyfriend got their potroast special. The potroast was cooked in what could only be described as canned tomato soup. My sandwich was fine, but the pickle when I say it was a sliver I'm being generous. I thought maybe it was just the bottom of the barrel, but everyone I talk to laughs about their "generous" pickle slivers. I went months ago and ordered a pancake special that came with strawberries, and the strawberries tasted like onions I'm guessing they didn't clean the cutting boards or knives between prepping onions, and the strawberries. So happy to have discovered this diner. The coffee was fresh and excellent. In fact, all of the food I tried was delicious, especially the French fries. It is always very busy which is a good sign. We've been going here for 17 years and it's slowly gotten worse and worse in the past few. First sign that should have told us it was over were the long dead and decaying palm trees that have been outside forever. Inside the diner was grimy, the floors dirty and the bathrooms smelly and disgusting. The garbage pail was overflowing. The food has gotten so bad that I couldn't finish a cheese omelet. It was way overcooked and brown and hard on the outside and there was hardly any cheese inside at all. The light toast I asked for was burnt. My friend ordered pancakes and bacon. The bacon was like burnt leather and the pancakes had the texture of unbaked dough, and were heavy and wet. We also had coffee, at $3 for a small teacup size! Half way through my meal my stomach was churning. The services wasn't bad, it wasn't good. The waiter had no real connection - he was robotic. The prices have gone way up and the food way down. I understand prices all over have gone up, yet other diners won't cost you nearly $40 (including tip) for a simple breakfast for two. Especially one that was inedible. This used to be a really great place - not any more. We're never going back. read more
