I going to be completely honest this is not even close to the best french in the nation I have never made french toast but it would be better if I made it myself I wouldn't be that annoyed but they said its worlds best but It the worst I've ever had. Lady was nice but the sign is to get people to come in tbh the A horrible thing to do

While driving up to NY this past weekend, I was looking for a nice place to stop for lunch with my wife and in-laws. Thanks to Yelp, I came across Old Stone. In this older town of Sussex, it was just what we were looking for. Old Stone is located in a little strip mall in the heart of town. There are only a few tables inside, but no problem seating on an early Saturday afternoon. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The food was excellent and very fresh. We chose the soup and sandwich combo. I had the signature roast beef sandwich and the turkey vegetable soup. We all loved our meals. Only suggestion I would make is to turn the heat up, was pretty chilly there. If you're in Sussex, give the Old Stone a try (just dress warm)!

One of the best local eatery experience I've had in the area. No frills locals place. Super friendly staff as well as the locals who frequent this place. High quality local ingredients, and great coffee. Must get the taylor ham or pork roll if you are not from the area its an unique NJ item unlike anything else.

I've lived down the block from this place since it opened. Actually I believe the owners live about 5 or 6 houses from my former lake house. I have no idea why it took me so long to come here and eat. My son and I came here after karate class to try "the best French toast in the nation" and have some breakfast. It's very well decorated inside and has a very homey feel to it. Pastries and meats are in the deli case, you can smell the fresh coffee brewing and the people there are friendly and warm. My son had the French toast and eggs which was a huge portion of food and very well prepared. I had an egg white and ham sandwich on a bagel that was also very well portioned and cooked perfectly. I also had a cup of freshly made coffee which was excellent on a cold and snowy day. Like most places, I try to look at all the positives and then try to find one of two things I would do differently or that the venue could do better and honestly, I couldn't find anything that could've been done better here. The French toast was incredible, the eggs were fluffy and well prepared and my sandwich was great. We cannot wait to go back and will be doing so soon. Great job Old Stone!!

This was my first visit to Old Stone. It was a Saturday at 10:00am. I took a seat at the counter. Influenced by the best french toast sign outside, I ordered that with sausage patty and tea. I enjoyed my meal while watching early Saturday morning programs on the two televisions and listening to local 102.3 WSUS-FM radio, playing hits from the 80's until now on iHeart radio. The food doesn't come with the unhealthy sugary powder on top which I took in account when determining the taste. I did more syrup then I usually do to add flavor. I'm still trying to figure out the "established in 1843" designation next to the "celebrating our first year" notation on the menu cover.

Wonderful cozy find! Best breakfast-for-dinner ever…read more We stumbled upon this absolute gem on a freezing, rainy evening after an outdoor event, just looking for a warm bite to eat around dinner time. My partner found this spot while searching nearby, and oh how happy I am that he did! I had been craving blueberry pancakes for days and was so excited to have a rare breakfast-for-dinner treat. From the moment we walked in, the warmth of the place completely melted the cold away. We were greeted by a wonderful, incredibly kind waitress, and the atmosphere inside was just so cozy and comforting. There was a lovely mix of people having their supper, including a sweet family of seven eating dinner together at the table next to us. It just had that perfect, welcoming community feel. The menu was seriously impressive. My other half ordered the southern chicken sausage gravy dinner, and it was phenomenal! I got my blueberry pancakes- my absolute favorite - and they completely exceeded expectations. I also tried the lentil soup, which was packed with flavor. Honestly, I don't think you could have a bad meal here if you tried. Our waitress (the same lovely woman who greeted us) chatted with us for a bit and was just so delightful and attentive. I even spotted a rice pudding with strawberries and whipped cream on the dessert menu that looked right up my alley, but between my pancakes and stealing a few delicious bites of the chicken dinner, I was far too full this time around! As we left, I noticed the pretty flowers and the outdoor picnic tables. I'm sure this place absolutely hops on weekend mornings, but it was the perfect rainy evening escape for us. Thank you so much for your incredible hospitality-we are officially adding this to our regular rotation when we are in the area.

(Reservations are not that easy to make last minute.) The restaurant is big and open but always busy. Kids get wax craft sticks to play with and bend into cool shapes, which I find very unique and cool. I feel like there is a difference between a diner and a true brunch place. A diner, of which there are numerous in New Jersey, is a establishment that churns out inexpensive, and potentially excellent, but very standard breakfast food - omelettes, pancakes, benedicts and the like. A true brunch place, on the other hand, offers things like lemon ricotta pancakes, cacio e pepe scrambles, mushroom thyme omelettes and shakshuka. Willow & Whisk is that kind of brunch place, and which is rare in New Jersey. The food options are varied, very tasty, and with good portion sizes. I love the shakshuka and the mushroom thyme omelette. Oh gosh, when is our next reservation again?

The highlight was definitely the Stuffed French Toast. It looked beautiful, and I expected it to be overly sweet, but it was surprisingly well balanced. The toast was soft with a slightly crispy exterior, and the cream cheese filling paired really well with the strawberry compote. We also ordered the BLT+. The smoked bacon was delicious, but the focaccia was a little too thin and hard, making it harder to eat than I expected. The house-made sausage was good, just not particularly memorable. As for the coffee, it was probably the most disappointing part of the meal. The latte wasn't very smooth, and the cold brew had a slight off taste. They were both drinkable, just not something I'd order again. Overall, I'd recommend this place for the food and the atmosphere, especially if you're interested in the French toast. There's also parking behind the restaurant, which makes visiting easy.

It's not easy to find decent food in Vernon, and while this wasn't terrible, the search continues…read more The Millennial Chum and I stopped by here for lunch this past Saturday after building up an appetite ziplining at nearby Mountain Creek. The menu was large with almost a diner-like quality (not a bad thing), and I was in the mood for some avocado toast specifically. It was a very nice day and I would have been perfectly fine with the outdoor seating situation off to the side of the building, but the Millennial Chum was very taken by the interior and declared we had to seat in there. It was fine - it looked like it had been recently renovated/done, but also had a dash of quaint country store to it. Not to an extreme level like a Cracker Barrel, but it's a pleasant vibe. I was kind of impressed that they had literally the most basic avocado toast option possible - literally just avocado on toast. In this day and age, I usually have to navigate around some weird crap (my limit is maybe some feta or pepper flakes, but once you start putting basically an entirely different meal on it, I'm out), so it was refreshing from that perspective. That said, this really should be an avocado mash - per the attached picture, they just chopped up pieces of browning avocado with no seasoning whatsoever, which I could easily make at home. It's extremely rare for me to add seasoning, but as soon as I saw this, I doused it with pepper. A rare instance of this being a little TOO basic. But they have the right idea. Honestly, I didn't like the strawberry pancakes. I thought they tasted artificial and not good at all. I had a few bites that were heavily centered on the strawberries, but the strawberries weren't ripe yet so they weren't juicy/flavorful. For what it's worth though, the Millennial Chum DID like them and hosed most of them down on my behalf, so maybe it's just a personal preference issue. Like a diner, the portions here are gigantic - huge points for that. Even though I was pretty tepid overall on the avocado toast, it's a portion that was arguably twice as large if not more than the serving you'd get at a bougie cafe in Jersey City or something. And in line with that, the price point is pretty amazing as well. We got a ton of food here and split a bill that I think ended up hovering around $30; really not bad. The service was okay. Our waitress was nice and we ordered/received our food promptly, but it did take a bit of time to locate her again to obtain the check. Not a huge deal though. This was okay. And given where you are, that's probably good enough.
