Arrived at this hotel and let me state that I have stayed here before. I like this location since it is close to major roads making it easier to get to or from. Arrived around 4:30pm and the front desk had an issue with their printer upon checking in. Woman was nice enough about it and I even made some jokes to make light of the situation of basically me just standing there. I was asked to come back to sign their paperwork since apparently the issue with their printer was out of paper and it obviously been out of paper a while. Many papers printing, just not mine. I was given a room on the second floor and learned the next morning why that was a bad room. I was right above where they served breakfast and the early attendees became my instant alarm clock. Cant blame the other hotel guests since I am sure they were not thinking on how loud they were and could be waking others up. If you need to have rooms that close to open common space maybe thicker walls? I went to take a shower and the instant water hit the tub, the tub became extremely slippery that I did slip and bash my head into the wall leaving a sizable lump and mark on my head. Upon leaving that day I stopped at the front desk and mentioned what had happened. Perhaps it was the cleaning product they were using. The attendant asked what room I was in and I told her but also added that I don't think they would use a different product in my room than the others. She wrote my room number on a post it and I left. I came back to the hotel late that night close to midnight. My hotel key would not let me into the side entrance. I walked around and came into the front and went up to my room. Surprise, surprise. My hotel key wouldn't let me into my room. The same woman who checked me in was there and asked what was wrong. I told her my key does not work and she issued me a "new" key. During that event she made a joke which gave me an opening to let her know how my stay was going. I showed her my head and she had a surprised reaction but that was it. When I was checking out I purposely went to the desk to see if anything would be said about my stay. More than one person took my room number. You would think if I was the manager I would say to my staff that I wanted to speak to me when I checked out. Maybe to give an apology. Not for anything of monetary value which most businesses assume people are looking for when they get a complaint. Just a sincere apology. Too much to ask I guess. read more

We picked a Hampton because of the usual reputation of good service and clean rooms no matter where you stay. This place was a huge departure from the norm. Our room was not very clean; furry vents, debris along the carpet by each wall, stains all over the chairs, long hair on the shower curtain, older style lights with knobs that either wouldn't turn on or stay on, hairdryer pulling off the wall, peeling paint on the ceilings, and a very sticky bathroom floor. No ice machine on the first floor where our room was which was inconvenient. Lastly, even though it was Memorial Day weekend and they were completely booked, they decided to seal the parking lot asphalt so half of the lot was blocked and closed. Book elsewhere! read more

Dated. My least favorite thing traveling is when the bathroom has hair shavings in tub or sink. Yep, that happened this trip. After surviving EWR, there should be a little more than average and below average places to stay. read more

A decent hotel in a somewhat bad part of town (my upper window frame had some scratches one morning, I'd imagine someone was pretty bad at breaking into cars), that has seen much better days. This Hampton, while it features a renovated lobby, has a number of things wrong with it. 1. The rooms - Old TVs but a new air-conditioning system, which evens that one out since I am not sleeping in a jet-engine test bay all night. The problem here are the bathrooms. My bathroom was of an older variety and could have used a good bleaching. There were moldy spots all over the shower and the floor boards. On top of that, my towels had hair on them some days and they were missing half the toiletry items, including shampoo, a mainstay albeit not a really good one. The roomkeys are also old and my initial set so scratched that my door would not open. 2. The breakfast - The breakfast area was remodeled and actually looked pretty nice. That being said, it was small. There are about 8 tables and massive communal mission table, and most of them were taken even at my un-godly breakfast hour of 6:15 AM. I would not want to try it when more than the early birds and working men are at table. The selection was fairly standard, although the bread was old (not moldy though), and the drinks machine did not always work and yielded a frothy, inferior orange juice. One of the toasters was also half broken. The snack kiosk area was half-empty and did not get restocked during the week. 3. The ambience - The overall feel was alright, although the walls were thin and some of the signage was held up by duct-tape. The surrounding area was not the best, but featured a number of good ethnic restaurants to indulge in, as well as some basic chain fare. Overall this hotel was ok, if a little overpriced for what they charged. It appears that, due to the prevalence of groups of workers, the hotel does a lot of group business, which would probably explains the deficiencies, most of which could be remedied with some additional cash flow. I cannot believe no one has reviewed this hotel before! This was hands down the most pleasant experience I have had staying in a hotel before. (Yes, I have stayed at some 5 star hotels and the staff here was way better!) The people who work for this hotel were amazing. Unbelievably friendly and accomodating. They knew my name and answered any questions I had, even the obnoxious ones about the Jersey Shore. My suite was fabulous. Totally clean and nicely decorated. The TVs could use an upgrade but otherwise I was very happy with my room. I recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone. It was a fabulous experience based on how amazing the staff was. If I could give this place 100 stars I would. read more

This place is more modern but their service is very lacking, to say the least. You have to wait forever to check in or check out. No will be behind the counter and you have to just stand there and wait. Incompetent people for sure. This was a great place to stay and I will definitely be back. The hotel was clean and beautiful. It looked fairly new. The staff was friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was nice and the dining area was very relaxing and clean. The cost was amazing at $101, that was with a military discount, but even before the discount it was still a great price especially for the location. We drove to Liberty State Island from here and it took us about 15 min. This is very convenient to New York. We will stay here next time just for the convenience and keeping us out of the madness of staying in NY. read more

This is not what you'd expect from a HAMPTON Inn. Dated and well worn. Maintenance items at check-in. We had a suite. One of the two TVs were inoperable. Jacuzzi tub motor was running when we walked in. Turns out it was stuck on and the switch was broken. They had to turn off the breaker to stop it. Average cleanliness, nothing great. Disappointed. Came here to be close to Cape Liberty cruise port. Rooms are clearly not checked by hotel staff members after cleaning. read more

If you're into sitting outside, trying to call the front desk for someone to let you in because the front doors are locked so you can check in while watching them play graba$$ through the windows, this is the hotel for you. Housekeeping does not exist. Go buy a towel and some soap at the Target next store because that's all you are going to get. This place will be closed soon enough and it's their own fault. read more

I stay at Hampton Inns 3-4 times a week for work. This one was in a great location. Recently remodeled. The staff, specially the manager were very helpful and professional. I had an embarrassing issue while there and it was handled perfectly. Will return next time I'm working the area. read more

Good place to stay. Breakfast is solid, rooms are what you'd expect- overall average place. However, upon a rushed exit, I took a number 2 in the bathroom, only to realize the toilet was clogged. I figured the room would have been serviced and the toilet unclogged. Fast forward 13 hours later, I return to the room and smell the unholy scent of my excrement that had been festering in the toilet throughout the day, resulting in the entire room smelling of it. While my towel was taken (and not replaced), the toilet was left untouched. I took my matters into my own hands and unclogged it myself. Can't say I blame the housekeeper, but wow, that was gross. read more

I went there for New Years Eve. The room was clean. It came with a fridge and a microwave. There's a good complementary breakfast. The check in and out was very quick. The room was quite all night. I stayed on the 4th floor. They have a spacious parking lot too. They always have coffee in the lobby. read more

Never even cleaned our room. We were there for two nights and three days. When we asked about it we were told that the cleaning service was running behind, and they left for the day at 5:00. So our room wouldn't be cleaned that day. Totally unacceptable. read more

I agree with the poster before me by saying if you're anywhere in the Union County area and need a place to stay, SWING BY HERE IMMEDIATELY. The staff is great + the rooms are TOP NOTCH. I've stayed at some 5 star hotels as well, and this Hampton is easily among the best I've hibernated at! The room prices were terrific and the quality of stay was iMMACULATE. I stayed here for an evening with my girlfriend, and for $109 we got a King-sized bed with a hot-tub jacuzzi and all the amenities. The beds were perfect, the room was beautiful + clean; plenty of throw pillows, and free Wi-Fi. The staff was manager were EXTREMELY accommodating to us, and offered us free things constantly -- you really couldn't ask for more in a hotel experience! read more

I was impressed! Reasonable priced, friendly staff, very clean, quiet and comfortable. No table in the room to eat at, but a nice sized workstation desk. Nicely stocked mini-store, good free coffee in the lobby. Breakfast was standard hotel fare. Much nicer then I thought it would be and the bed was so comfortable that I wanted to just nap all day. Long time (12years) getaway. whenever we want to get a break from Brooklyn we come here. Now the hotel is good but other then Teresa who always greats us for breakfast and has pleasant convo with us, the staff has changed throughout the yrs. The location is prime many restaurants and shopping opportunities not to mention an AMC theatre. Teresa breakfast and location warrants the 4* rating Paris at the front desk was a sweetheart as well. read more

One of the hotels house keeping maids entered my room while I was out (as evidenced by the hotels electronic door entry system) and stole my son's birthday gift bag containing 2 New York Yankee game tickets, a NY Yankees wrist watch and a special addition NY Yankees tee shirt. The hotel's Chief Engineer confirmed that a maid entered my room after I had left. The problem that the hotel has is that the maid never cleaned or serviced the room. We found it , after the theft that the bed was not made, the garbage cans had not been emptied and the bathroom towels were still laying on the bathroom floor. The only thing done was the theft of my son's gift bag. I filed a police report with the Linden Police Department. I found out that the maid in question called in sick the day after the theft and the day after that as well. The hotel manager is trying to claim that he cannot prove the maid stole my property because nobody saw her do it...are you kidding me or what? They have a clear and indisputable electronic record that she entered my room and that no service was done to my room but they cannot positively say it was her. What was she doing in my room on the exact day that my property was stolen? Reconnaissance maid service? Nah, I think stealing my property is more like it. read more

Hmmmm, call to ask if they were anymore room available , said yes of course , took my credit card number and guarantee me a room, show up@ 2 pm for check in , they said oh they have nothing available now , not until 3 or 4pm , until someone check out , but check out is 11am , so I came back at 3pm again which they took my card again acting like I was checking into my room , just to tell me again to go sit down in the lobby , i ask ok , Can I cancel my booking , they said I would still be charge the same fees if I cancel , I should cancel atleast 48hrs in advance but I booked it that same day .. so not only I can't get a refund but I must wait for them to let me know when I can get a room . Staffs seems nice but to me if you are that pack why not issue me my money back or some credits , this is ridiculous , I'll sure will let my company know about this stay , it's the same thing the airline do to customer , over sale their room . read more

My stepsons stayed here for NYE and came back with bedbugs. I've tried to contact corporate for a response and got nothing. The bites were so bad that they were both hospitalized and now we have to pay to make sure they don't infest the house. So unless you want to come back home with a bag full of bedbugs and a body full of bites, I suggest you steer clear of this hotel. read more

well, this is my experience at this hotel. everything was fine, staff was friendly, very clean room, i stayed there on 11.20.2015. to my surprise, they did charge my debit card again in the 30th, that is 11.30.2015, when i was back in chicago. what a scam, why would they charge my debit card again one week after when i was not there? luckily for me, i went online to revise my account, found the charge, disputed, i had to order a new debit card, then i have to wait 7-10 business days to get new card on the mail. yet, tried to call many times, no answer, then if they answer, the keep on transfer me, thieves. i would not recommend this place to any one. stay away, furthermore, if you have been there, check your bank account! read more

not sure how they got less than 3 stars! my most recent stay twice in a weeks time was WONDERFUL! the staff was great and very accommodating especially for my mom who needs "accessible" rooms! from the maintenance staff to from desk everyone spoke and was VERY pleasant! the hotel is in a fairly decent location as we traveled back and forth between Elizabeth & Roselle, there is a nails salon Target and Applebee's all within walking distance as well as a movie theatre! Thought this hotel was in a good area because of the decent size outdoor mall right next door, but quickly discovered it's not the best area. There really should be security on the property but there isn't. There is, however, very good (and visible) security at the hotels close by in both Elizabeth and Newark Airport. This hotel is simply not worth putting your safety in jeapardy to save a dollar or two. read more
