    Offset living room

Good hotel. All the staff I encountered were superb and inviting. My room was spacious and had an offset living room. I never heard my neighbors throughout my entire multiple week stay. The indoor pool was enjoyable. The fitness center was okay. There are two treadmills. One doesn't incline and the other doesn't increase speed correctly. The laundry has 1 washer ($3) and 1 dryer ($2). The breakfast options were really good and changed daily. They also provide trays and to-go boxes. The market offers medium sized bags of chips for $3, which is actually a reasonable price. The hotel location provides easy interstate access and the parking lot provides two electric charging stations. The only negative is the location. I didn't feel comfortable going for runs in the neighborhood and there aren't many food options within walking distance. It is an older hotel but has some updates.

Now the good: This is one of the best fitness rooms that I've seen in a hotel, I would be back just for the gym!

Checking in was super easy. I did it through the app and it was easy to come to the desk and pick…read moreup my keys. The only issue I had was that I requested a late check-out and the person working the counter really gave me a hard time about it. I understand that late check-outs aren't guaranteed, but her attitude about it was really off. She kept insisting that I need to speak with her manager to approve it, but she never offered to get the manager. I just gave up and decided to speak with someone else the next day. When I came by the next day, the person working let us have the 2pm check-out and the manager did happen to walk by and said it was not an issue at all. And it turns out the girl from the night before did mark me as a 1pm check-out. Honestly, though, this was still an issue because housekeeping came at 1pm to clean the room... The room itself was a room. Clean and standard to Hampton Inn. The bathroom was good, with a nice shower stall and good water pressure but a low flow toilet. My room was in a separate part of the building with only like 6 rooms on the floor. This was nice when it came to hotel noise. However, the windows are very thin and the complaints about car drag racing all night are not incorrect. The location of this hotel was fantastic, an easy walk to many of the sights in the area. One day we decided to take the shuttle and that was fabulous. This hotel is worth staying at for the shuttle alone.

Let's start with the good: Free breakfast was nothing…read morespecial but sufficient. Hot breakfast included eggs and sausage. There were cereals and breads and fruit. Coffee, teas, juices. I like staying at these places because breakfast is usually not a big deal for me. The FREE SHUTTLE goes within 2 miles of the hotel. I stayed here two different times and I probably caught the shuttle 6 different times. Jenn is the absolute best shuttle driver, super knowledgeable about the entire town, and remembered me when I came back the second time. I don't like taking Ubers by myself so having the shuttle was the best - the shuttle picked me up from the Amtrak station before I even checked in! Then it took me to the mall while I waited for my room to be ready. Location: super convenient to eateries, and just across the river from Brown, RISD, Thayer St, and walkable to the waterfront. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. THE BAD: Both times I stayed, my room faced the street and at night people race cars on those streets! The street noise is REALLY LOUD.

So this will help the review. The Thursday night we stayed was my mother and I, she got a junior suite. It had 2 king size beds, a beautiful living room area with a lot of seating and tv, a huge walk in closet and beautiful decor all around. This was a perfect set up for all the girls to get ready for the wedding the next day, it was spacious and made for beautiful pictures. Some areas do need a little cleaning up, and some decor needed a little tweaking but overall the room was magical. We stayed on the 10th floor and overlooked the city, it was a beautiful view. An issue that I ran into was the doors slam HARD. You'll get used to it but it sounds so loud you can hear everyone leaving their rooms if they don't slowly close the door themselves. Also the toilets when you sit they move, kind of feels like they're broken even though they aren't so be mindful of that. And then being that high up be mindful it takes about 5-10 minutes for the shower water to warm up. It does get extremely hot after that waiting period but if you didn't know you'd think there's no hot water. The check in process both times was pretty smooth. When my husband and I checked in for our stay, the lady who checked us in was pushy and kind of rude. I didn't like her very much, an older taller woman. All the younger people were sweet as pie and very helpful. We stayed In a one bed and this was excessively smaller to what I had the night before of course but we worked with it. I think for the price point for this room it didn't match. Yet again we needed the hotel for pictures and the ambience, and it did its job being able to take pictures in the lobby, the grand staircase the balcony area all of those were worth it. But I would never get that room again , it's not worth it. The decor is beautiful don't get me wrong but we had too much stuff from the wedding that room became extremely tight- fast. The elevators are very small, and creepy. But they did their job. The security personnel were great. They did their job, were great to talk to, and very kind. They even helped us navigate places- when we had questions. They became like our friends because we used them a lot since so many of us were in and out to prep for my wedding adventures. All and all I had a great time.

The day before, I received an e-mail from David Alvarado, the front office manager, with a few helpful details about parking and dining at The Bistro. For the easiest route to the parking garage, enter 5 Memorial Blvd, Providence, RI 02903 into your GPS and it will bring you directly to the Union Station Plaza Garage located beneath the hotel. From there, elevators will bring you straight up to the lobby. The garage fee is $34.00 per night (plus tax.) On the day of check-in, I found the garage easily and got a parking ticket from the machine. When I arrived at the Front Desk, they provided me with a QR code for easy in-and-out access and told me to disregard the parking ticket I got from the machine. The check-in time at Courtyard by Marriott Providence Downtown is 3:00 pm and the check-out time is 12:00 pm. I arrived about 3:00 PM and checked-in. The staff checked me in and gave me keys to my room. The room had a view of The Rhode Island State House, the official capitol building of the U.S. state of Rhode Island. The lobby space was very open and good for groups to hang out either at the bar or by the billiards table. I would have checked out all the other amenities more if I was planning to do nothing else but hang out at the hotel. But heck, I'm by downtown Providence and my goal was to drop everything off and run off into the night like I'm young again. The room was very clean and well maintained. The style is very different from what I'm accustomed to. Those who recommended this stay weren't joking about it being trendier than just another hotel. It's obvious that it caters to a much younger group that likes technology and gadgets. You can see it in the details. I also love the shower head and rainfall combo and the provided personal care items. Definitely love the overall layout and design. Shout out to Ariani who checked me into the hotel. Friendly and upbeat. Thank you Aloft for the wonderful stay. I'll definitely be back next time I'm visiting downtown Providence.

Elevators use key access, which I actually appreciate the secure access. The lobby? Super cute. The WXYZ bar setup is chic and inviting, with plenty of little sitting areas -- and they had different boxed games on a few tables [plus the glass chess and tic tac toe] which I'm all about games nights so I loved this for having drinks with friends and being social. Rooftop bar is under construction right now but looks like it's scheduled to reopen this month. I spotted the gym on the first floor (did not participate this round lol). There's also a marketplace with a fun retro, 60s vibe right by the front desk -- that's the only spot with a microwave, but the rooms do have refrigerators. My room was a basic one, but it was perfect for me. The decor is definitely unique -- between the wallpaper, the psychedelic rug, and the comic-book-style pillows, it really gave me that fun, graphic "hero mode activated" vibe. I noticed people mentioning privacy concerns about the glass doors at the shower and the [much darker/almost obscured] glass door that shuts the toilet area [and yes the door does slide shut all the way] but anyone Im sharing a hotel room with has already seen it all so I was unbothered by it lol My one "thing" though is there are handheld clothes steamers in the room versus a traditional iron. Couple that with no pant hangers with clips and it's not the best situation to iron pants for work. Went back to the front desk this morning to make a purchase from the marketplace and again, the staff was friendly and helpful. I'm hibernating in my room til I check out, so I can't speak on the other amenities, but the lobby, the service, and my room were all really nice for a short stay.

This hotel is lackluster at best and dated for the typical quality you'd expect from the Marriott brand, basically a Marriott disguised as a 3-star hotel. Other than the fancy lobby areas (which they upkeep to make you think it's high class) the room itself is musky, old and outdated. Vents were dusty, and I found a water bug in my room on arrival, but after a long day of flying and unpacking your bag, no one wants to move rooms. Parking is a steep charge $32 a night for not even covered parking which wraps around the building because several close spots are for preferred club members. Of course no complimentary breakfast is provided (expensive restaurant) but at least they had coffee in the morning. One nice thing was the shuttle service that will take you within a couple miles, and service/drinks at the bar was great.
