We visited Han Dynasty on July 21, 2026, and, to be completely honest, it was one of the worst Chinese meals I have ever had. To be fair, I am extremely particular about Chinese food. I grew up eating it, and I have high standards. But this experience went far beyond personal preference. The problems started with the tea. I'm not a tea connoisseur, but even I could tell it tasted stale, like tea that had been sitting around since the day before. Then came the seafood soup. It tasted nothing like seafood soup. A layer of light-colored residue floated on the surface, resembling the foam you see when boiling raw meat. It was so unpleasant that we immediately asked to speak with the manager and sent it back. The Kung Pao Chicken wasn't much better. It arrived covered in a dark purple sauce that bore little resemblance--in either flavor or appearance--to any Kung Pao Chicken I've ever had. The pork with peppers contained only a few small pieces of dry, overcooked meat and was completely forgettable. And then there was the Sichuan Boiled Fish. The Sichuan Boiled Fish！That Sichuan Boiled Fish！I honestly run out of words. For a restaurant that promotes itself as serving authentic Sichuan cuisine, this dish alone was a major disappointment. The only thing good about this place is the staff were polite, but we came in for food. My advice? Drive an extra ten miles and go to Chinatown instead. You'll likely find a small corner restaurant serving food with more authenticity, better flavor, and greater care than what we experienced here. read more

It's definitely more a 3.5 star vs a 4 but generously rounding up. All of the food is fine and the service is ok, the issue is that of the Han dynasty's around town it's definitely the least good food wise. If you're feeling Szechuan it'll do the trick. read more

This place isn't bad at all! I forgot to take a picture of my main course but I had the spring rolls and scallion pancakes which were the highlight for me. The lo mein tasted good but a little too much sesame oil for my preference. I would come here again maybe for appetizers and to take advantage of the BYOB next time. read more

Saw some old reviews from fellow helpers that I know. Things is my visit didn't go so well, which was quite disappointing because I have brand loyalty. Here's the skinny: Arrived on a Friday night around 8, streets at businesses were busy and filled with people. This was one of the few places that had open tables available, so we went right in. Ambiance wasn't as nice as the other locations and felt a bit outdated. Food items weren't really prepared with love and flavor profile was inconsistent. Dan Dan Noodles: there was a mush factor, although the flavor was pretty good. The texture was offputting a bit. Seemed wontons: wonton wrappers were a bit rubbery, and the flavor wasn't as on par with what we've had previously. Dry pot style with tofu: tofu wasn't pressed, wasn't crispy like it usually is, and the flavor profile was way off. Typically I tear this dish up. I only had about three pieces of tofu and boxed it up hoping that maybe somebody at home would eat it. It's two days later and nobody wants it. All in all, I would not return to this location. I think the way everything was prepared, puts a bit of a tarnish on the brand. I'll definitely be back to the other locations though. read more

Great Chinese food. Everything on the menu was solid, but I'd definitely lean towards their "dry" menu options. The scallion pancakes and dumplings were tasty options for an appetizer. As far as ambiance: we loved the cool vibes the restaurant had to offer. My only thing I'd give a heads up on is the parking situation in the area. It is difficult to find parking and you'll likely have to pay for a lot and walk, so plan to get here early. read more

This has quickly become my favorite place to eat! From the front you wouldn't expect such greatness because the place is so mellow and quiet, but they exceed expectations for me. They make such good portions for such good prices, and it's the perfect for sharing or to get your own big meal! I've yet to have anything bad here- my favorites are the dry pepper chicken (so crispy), and their fried rice with pork, but honestly, I could list their whole menu and tell you why I'd eat just about anything. This was my first time at a any of the Han Dynasty restaurants, this one happen to be BYOB.. I looked at the website prior to going, I don't recall that being noted. Luckily my friend called ahead and found out it was BYOB so she picked up some wine. The food was very good and I liked that you could give them a heat/spice range, unfortunately they didn't follow it. My delicious had a 1 heat range and it was spice, my friend, who loves spicy food asked for her dish to be 5 instead of the noted in the menu 8. Her fish was sooo good but way to spicy for me and even gave her some challenges. Also they didn't bring a wine chiller. I look forward visiting another Han Dynasty. read more

This was the worst dining experience I've ever had. I tried to be open minded, but the restaurant continuously disappointed me throughout the evening. Here's a list of my experience: - unprofessional staff: they seemed like college students that didn't care about their job. Just because my partner and I are young doesn't mean we want to be treated like college students by the young staff. I expected professionalism and formal behavior--literally normal to expect in a restaurant. - music: the music playing continuously went from low to high volume. Sometimes just stopping. - rabbit dry pot entree: absolutely disgusting and unauthentic. I know what authentic is and the ingredients did not work together at all - chicken rice noodle: there was no flavor/seasoning/sauce in this. I only found 2 pieces of (low quality) chicken. - food overall: I could have made better Chinese/Szechuan food myself. - chefs: I saw the chefs and all I can say is that explains why the food was so gross and unauthentic - reviews: I see that the Yelp stars review and the Google reviews for this restaurant aren't bad. I can guarantee you that is a lie. I know that this cannot just be my experience. - ambiance: soooo off. I felt uncomfortable and out of place. I knew the second we walked in, but it was too late. I came for an authentic dining experience, but I got the complete opposite. Because Han Dynasty is a chain, I assumed that this was a safe choice. Please do not come here. Han Dynasty will never disappoint you when it comes to quality of food! I ordered the Garlic Sauce Style Chicken and it came out sooooo good! The dish came out hot. The chicken was not over cooked & dry. In fact, the chicken was juicy & flavorful. I ordered the highest level of spice and I received exactly that. But the spice did not remove the garlic flavor of the dish at all! I always get the Dan Dan Noodles when I go to Ham Dynasty. These noodles are spicy, fatty, garlicky, gingery, and chewy! Love them! There were a ton of bones in it and I think it being cold was a disservice to the taste. However! When the rest of our food came, we LOVED it. We had the pleasure of dining in last Saturday for a family lunch. Our family was a group of 15 that occupied two large tables. The restaurant handled our large group incredibly well so I have to give them kudos. We ordered a bunch of food for our tables and all of it came out in a very timely fashion. We got the Dan Dan Noodles, Pickled Tofu, Mapo Tofu (requested the pork to be put on the side so our Vegan family can enjoy too), Beef Tendon, Scallion Pancake, Wontons in Chili Oil, Dry Pepper Fish, Dry Pepper Beef, Crispy Rice Chicken. Everybody loved everything we ordered. Our favorites were the Crispy Rice Chicken and the Dry Pepper Fish. The Crispy Rice Chicken also has a pretty deceptive name by the way. It's chicken that's covered in a thick sweet sauce that has the rice buried underneath it all. It's very good and the menu didn't really describe it well. I have to mention the portion sizes are well worth what you're paying. You get a very good bang for your buck. Everything is served family style so everything comes out in a decent size. Highly recommend doing what we did, which is to come in a group and order a bunch of different dishes. Even with our large group, everybody was stuffed and we had a few leftovers. The staff who worked were pretty attentive and very accommodating to all of our requests (like booking 15 people, setting the pork to the side, holding a dish on standby until our whole party arrived, supplying a high seat for a baby). The service and the food knocked it out of the park. I would highly recommend coming here if you like the taste of spicy peppers and Asian food. read more

And they did. The rundown: - The dry pepper fish: on point! Not as spicy as i would have liked (i like to feel the pepper in my ears - yeah i know i have problems), but it was perfectly seasoned, battered, and prepped. i truly love all the chopped up chiles around the fish cuz i actually eat them. Good times! - The double-fried fish: This was my friend's request and i enjoyed some of it. Nicely seasoned, but a bit saucy for me. My homie enjoyed it too. - The custom ordered fried rice with egg and onion: Perfect for pairing with our respective fish dishes. - The STAR OF THE SHOW: The pea leaves with garlic! Why oh why did i hate veggies when i was little? Oh i know - cuz Han Dynasty's pea leaves with garlic were never on my plate! Real talk: if i could only order the pea leaves dish for the rest of my life, i'd consider it a life well-lived. Overall: Be aware! You WILL pay quite a few coins for your order. i def paid $65 for all that i described above, BUT we had enough for dinner plus leftovers the next day for 2 chicks that LOVE to eat. I would rather say 2 and 1/2 stars because I really love Han Dynasty but perhaps the Powelton Village and Olde City locations I've liked better. The Dan Dan noodles while still consistently chewy and spicy definitely lacked pork in the sauce. I literally had a bit of pork here and there. That was disappointing. The cucumbers and dumplings were good and my companion and I liked the fact that the kitchen allowed her (picky ass) to sub ingredients. She winded up with a garlic sauce tofu dish that she enjoyed. We also ordered take out and I had to lose some stars here as well. Despite asking for an extra side of brown rice to go along with the two "to go" entrees it was never packed with the order. And instead of putting the "to go" on a separate check it was totaled with our dine in order which completely hiked the tip up. Despite this Han is still a good bet. read more

I was really looking forward to Han Dynasty because I've heard great things but honestly it fell kind of flat for me. I have to preface by saying I did order take out, so my experience may be different but I just felt like the food wasn't great. I ordered the chicken rice noodles and it had little chicken and little flavor. I felt like I was eating a big bowl of peppered noodles and nothing else. I was hoping for more of a flavor punch and it fell flat for me. I really wouldn't go out of my way to order from here again, maybe I'll give it a chance in person but probably not. read more

The missus and I stopped in her to kill some time while we were in Manyunk. This is one of my favorite spots. I ordered the Hot Sauce Chicken w/brown rice and my wife had the Garlic Sauce Shrimp. The hot sauce is pretty spicy but very good. The Garlic Sauce is definitely the way to go. There are so many options on their menu it's hard to decide. I do not live anywhere near this restaurant but I make the trip to Philly for some of their excellent cuisine. read more

I'm hopelessly addicted to Han's cooking. His Sichuan is always a dependable standby, and I'm glad this restaurant is an option in Manayunk. Last I was here, I brought a large crew and we went for the tasting menu. It was an assault of the senses: the smells and tastes and textures of Dan Dan noodles, dumplings, soups, and a medley of other dishes blurred through my mind. This is my 3rd review of Han Dynasty, seeing I have been to the Cherry Hill location along with my personal favorite in Old City. I am happy to see there is a Han located here in the 'Yunk,(Manayunk) which could be a bad thing. Bad in meaning "good" mind you, because when I need that Dan Dan fix I can just swoop on in. Great dishes coming out of this spot off of Main St. I consider this the training location to get your taste buds acclimated to Han's style of heat. Heat as in the spice levels of your dish. I personally think the Old City location is the "Mecca" of all things spicy. That is where you'll be sweating like you've just been in a sauna. Manayunk , I am not knocking you, but your dishes could be hotter. Like I said, this is the training course, and as you experience his other locations you'll notice the difference. I would say out of 10 on the heat factor they are a 4, maybe 5 . Hey it is still a great way to clear up any sinus issues you are experiencing. The menu is all the same, the Dan Dan is still delicious, those spicy cucumbers are always top notch, along with those sesame dumplings, and so forth. Yes you still will get a good sweat, while licking your lips trying to alleviate the heat you're enduring. Great spot, with a good amount of space and the servers are always on point. Another thing is this is a byob location, so come prepared (if you want) when you enjoy any of these dishes. This was actually the first chinese restaurant we've been to were they serve complimentary green tea (when we ate in person,) which we thought was a nice touch. Anything on the menu is worth trying, but in particular I would suggest dumplings or any spicy entree. read more

When this restaurant initially came to main street I was very skeptical. I was wondering what could break the string of dud restaurants (i.e. Ben and Jerry's, Beijing Garden, Main Street Noodle House, Cavo Crepe Cafe) that inhabited this location. I read an article where Han, the owner, was quoted as saying his goal was to open 100 locations. The article also stated that this location offered a 20 course tasting menu once a month. I loved variety so I had to try it. This tasting menu ending up being one of the most exciting, spicy and authentic dining experiences I've ever had. Simply amazing!!! We were able to sample just about everything on the menu, from fish to chicken, to pork, beef and even vegetarian dishes each loaded with their own number (from 1 to 10) indicating their spiciness. This was not your typical General Tso and Lo mien, but a whole new authentic American Chinese where plenty of hot peppers and spice are welcomed on the dishes. The only thing to make this a better a better experience is that it is a BYO. read more

The restaurant was close to pack on a Friday night. There is a good amount of space in the restaurant, so plenty of overall seating for customers. The tables are not stuffed right next to each other, which is nice as some restaurant tend to overdo the table placement. I ordered the Dan Dan noodles, which is their most popular item, and the dumplings with chili sauce. The Dan Dan noodles literally came out 1 minute after I ordered it, which speaks to its popularity since the restaurant has it ready to go the minute it is ordered. The noodles come with a small amount of pork along with what I believe to be chili oil flavoring. This was supposed to be a spicy dish, but it was not spicy to me. I do wish it was. The noodles are simple, but very tasty. The dumplings with chili sauce is a mouthful of flavor. It comes drenched in garlic and chili sauce, which is like an explosion in your mouth. Each dumpling looks gigantic because the dumpling skin is spread out like a fan. However, the dumpling filling is a tiny, one forth the size of the dumpling skin. Sneaky indeed. The dumplings were good too, but I think I like the Dan Dan Noodles the best. Also, be warned that the garlic will be getting stuck in your teeth. Find some floss! read more

Was super disappointed with Han dynasty. I've been to the location in NYC once which I LOVED so was excited to order in Philly. Fried Rice- this was completely different from the one in New York. It was very flavorless and there were sooo many chunks of white rice in it. Disappointing. Kung Pao Chicken- the chicken pieces were very chewy and fatty. At a certain point I was just grossed out and had to stop eating. Wontons in Chili Oil- it didn't seem like these were in chili oil, they were just in a garlicky sauce and had no spice. The wontons were SO overcooked and fell apart in a bad way. There was barely any meat in these so I honestly don't know if the meat was good or not. I really could not taste the meat. Overall I'm very dissatisfied and wish I could get a refund for this order. I will be going back to the location in New York because I really did enjoy it but this will be my last time trying it in Philly. read more

Prices: reasonable This was our first food stop in Philly after driving almost 6 hours from VA to come visit our friends. When we initially arrived the only available table for four people was right in front of the door/entrance and opted not to sit there next to door constantly opening up to freezing outside temps. We did however see two separate 2 person tables and suggested they pull those together to make together and they refused and didn't provide any reasoning and told us to wait for another table to open up so we were kind of turned off by that.. Moving on to the delicious food! We got a cold appetizer of the beef tendons in chili oil and this was the best dish of the night! There was a big serving of thinly sliced tendon in a fragrant and delectable chili oil sauce. I could have eaten this whole dish by myself with rice and would have been very pleased. We also got some wontons in chili oil which was a different chili oil; the chili oil sauce was swavory and I wish we had it as a dipping sauce! We also shared the seafood tofu soup, strings beans and the dry pepper style chicken. The chicken was also great but the serving size was quite small for dinner. The restaurant space is fairly small; I would say that it seats about 40 people max. The service was good during our meal and the food came out lightning fast! This was by far the best Chinese food I've ever had in my recent adult life. (Susanna Foo still has top honors). My next door neighbor suggested we check this place out last Saturday. He kept raving about it so despite have corner store Chinese the night before, I reluctantly agreed; I'm so glad I did. We arrived around 6:40 pm and were greeted by a very friendly man. We waited for about ten minutes for a table for three. Upon sitting we got water and tea. The tea was hot but tasteless. I'm not sure if they offer other stuff to drink but it's a byob so that's a plus. I also think it's worth noting most dishes have a spice rating (1-10). You can increase or decrease depending on your threshold for pain. The waiter came, took our appetizer order which consisted of scallion pancake, cold sesame noodle and chili oil soaked dumplings. Presentation is basic but quality and quantity is of the highest levels. Neighbor ordered Dan Dan Noodles at level 9 hotness, I ordered tea smoked duck which is rated at a level 10 and my friend ordered shrimp lomein but asked to have it made at a level 6. The Dan Dan Noodles seemed like a temperature hot version of cold sesame noodles and they weren't very spicy. My tea smoked duck was delicious. Delicately smoked, perfect amount of fresh vegetables that are cooking it a robust chili oil sauce. The presentation was top notch and I will definitely be back again for this dish. The shrimp lomein was overly spicy at a level 6 which I think was mistakenly prepared at a 9 and the Dan Dan Noodles were prepared at a 6 or less. The food amazing, the service was adequate, the pricing is superb. All in all a great experience. read more

The Dan Dan Noodles (minus the meat) was the reason that we stopped in. I love Han Dynasty's Dan Dan noodles! While they tasted the same, the feeling just wasn't the same. There's no waiting area & people are bumping one another as they enter/exit through the front door which is pretty much in the dining area. I doubt I'd go back, just because there are too many better ones in the city. But if you want a quick bite (esp the Dan Dan noodles) & are in the area, then go for it. read more
